Beef taco, the best and only good taco out of the three I ordered.
    Lily H.

Raving reviews do not match up to the tacos I had. I ordered three different tacos. I love tacos. There's a lot you can do right with a taco, I only liked 1/3 that I got. They all seemed freshly made, but were difficult to enjoy. The pork taco - Filled with one large piece of pork that was at least half fat. The mango slaw included was about 3-4 toothpick thin pieces of mango. The avocado included was one slice of avocado that was almost paper thin. Then smothered over it all was the chili sauce which was overwhelming the entire taco if anything. Did not like anything about this taco. The fish taco - Piece of batter fish was thick and flavorless. There was no balance to the taco as it literally was 80% a large piece of fish. Do not recommend this taco. The beef taco - The only taco I enjoyed. Crispy corn and flour tortillas on the outside, tasty pick with some hot green pepper and an overall balanced taste between all the ingredients. Overall - subpar experience. Do not recommend fish or pork taco. Would try other taco places before coming back here again. Was hoping for so much more.

Let's TACO-BOUT-IT. I walked in around 1pm with a hunger that could only be matched by an excellent bunch of tacos. I forgot to eat breakfast, had walked the island of Marblehead, lost my best friend, Wilson, and I found my self looking for answers... And the answers came in the form of three spectacular tacos. When in Rome (Salem), you get a vampire themed taco.

Worse salsa verde I've ever had. It's terrible cause it's sweet & its supposed to to be with a lil spice to it

This food is nothing special for the price more quality of tacos. Plus salsa verde it suppose to be chili peppers but they probably used bell peppers since the owner isn't of Spanish heritage but wanna charge like it's authentic,, still do wit this place as you will ... btw it's 6 dollars for 1 taco so back to casa Amelia in lynn i go.

Vegan tacos? Say no more fam, you've already gotten my attention. Spitfire Tacos has vegan beans and rice in addition to vegan tacos. Both are decent options if you're in the Salem area. The tacos use Morningstar Farms beef crumbles and instead of small street style corn tortillas, Spitfire uses larger homemade flour tortillas. The rice and bean plate is huge and includes fancy upgrades (pickled onions and guacamole, anyone?). The only thing that's missing here is some salsa. I'm the type of person to POUR salsa over my tacos and unfortunately, none was included in my order. Aside from this small gripe, you can count me in as fan of Spitfire Tacos. Cute little taco place. Staff was very friendly despite being super busy. Got all of our orders right. Everyone enjoyed their food. Tacos were great. Quesadillas were great. Got spot for a quick lunch while walking through Salem.

Presentation of the food could use some more work and love. I preferred the Nellie Bellie (bottom taco) over the drunken tiger (top taco). Still good, but definitely needs some improvement.

I was hesitant. A taco in Salem, Massachusetts? I mean I'm from San Antonio where tacos were born and raised by God !!! I ordered a beef taco and she got the vegetarian. It was a little different but in a really good way. No salsa, instead a chipotle aioli sauce. Crispy corn shell and it had a thin flour tortilla wrapped around the outside. NOTE: I've never seen them served this way but I have seen a lot of people do this back home because every good Mexican restaurant serves flour tortillas with your dinner. O.k. . All I really need to say was just that they were delicious tacos. Great job guys.

Really solid tacos, which can even withstand to-go orders. The vampiro was spicy as advertised and quite flavorful.

5-plus.plus stars. These tacos will blow you away. Get the pork taco, the sauce should be illegal! I'm coming back for more.

Nothing more annoying than a review that starts with "I'm from Texas/California and I know Mexican…read morefood" blah blah blah shut your trap. No one cares. But guess what? I'm from LA and also spent most of my life in NYC and I know what good Mexican food tastes like.... And guess what?! Howling Wolf might be the best Mexican food on the east coast. Sure, it's a little pricey ($19 for a burrito?! Really?) but I didn't eat in the restaurant so I can't speak to the level of service or detail that comes with that price. I did take out. I f***g hate take out but we were passing through Salem and it was cold and the gf didn't want to eat out. This is really amazing Mexican food. I got the steak tip burrito. 9.5 out of 10. Gf got quesadilla (with carne asada) and I noticed another diner said it was soggy. I disagree. But JUST order the steak tips. Next level. Absolutely loved it. Salsa - very acidic but delish. They also gave us enough for two meals. Guac, solid. Needed salt - but that's not a crime. Only criticism- no one greeted me when I came in. I worked in the food biz and I believe staff should acknowledge you exist within seconds if they aren't greeting/seating you. I waited for a bit and finally someone figured it out. But ya know what - who cares about that when the burrito is this good - best $19 ever spent. Howling wolf - congrats. You've done the impossible. You made good Mexican food in the North Shore and converted a food snob into a believer. Wolf people, I love you. I will howl at the moon and sing your praises forever. Keep doing gods work.

A lot of places double up on the tortillas for this reason, but no need here. We ordered the birria, carnitas, and cabeza tacos, chicken sopes, beans, rice, sweet plantains, sweet rice pudding and horchata. Standouts were the carnitas and cabeza for me - very delicious in their simplicity, the meat is seasoned and cooked to perfection. Birria was also very good but overhyped IMO (novelty factor). The chicken sopes were way bigger than expected, could easily be a meal on its own and the masa tart was pretty good. Our table liked the green sauce to add zip to the food. It was very sunny when we went, so it was blinding and hot to be sitting inside, hope they install a shade at some point. They seem to only serve in takeout containers, so eating at a table requires getting a bit creative for a "plate" etc. There's a small lot behind the building and street parking is pretty easy. I will definitely be returning to try the lengua and more things next time!

We got the carne asade and chicken taco especial, the hibiscus tea, and churros! The tacos were delish! I usually opt for flour tortillas, however they make their corn tortillas and they are the soft ones, so I wanted to try it as it comes - I was not disappointed! The tacos come in 4 to a meal, so we so split two and two. Naturally, I prefer steak but both the chicken and steak were phenomenal. Lots of flavor!! The taco especial, has onions and cilantro and a nice lime squeeze on the side that is a nice flavor burst and addition. If you want the lettuce, cheese, tomato, etc. then you want the americano version. The tacos come with two sauces, both of which were spicy but you can tell were made/fresh! But that hibiscus tea - wow!! So delish! It was sweet and flavorful and a sip of freshness!! The churros were also incredible. Not that I didn't think I'd like the dulce de leche filling but it was um-yes yum! The outside was nice and crispy obv coated in cinnamon and sugar and then the inside was soft and doughy but not raw dough, just perfection. The dipping sauce was excellent too - they could provide a little bit more of it but we made it work. Anyways, highly recommend. It's fresh and authentic- clearly homemade with good ingredients!! Can't wait to try more from the menu!
