    Old bay shrimp fries

My group of 7 came here early November. I got the old bay shrimp fries which weren't terrible but I didn't get a taste of old bay. I got a couple small shrimp and we practically had to beg for silverware. My friends got grilled cheese which were both very burned and not melted inside. We waited for the food forever despite being the only group in the restaurant. One thing I particularly hated was where I was sitting was with my back towards a door to the outside that staff continuously opened so the cold air kept hitting me in the back. (The day was cold and rainy) honestly it was super annoying and wasn't worth the wait or the food.

Both menu and drink list is limited so I would expect dishes to come out with very good quality. I ordered the chestnut soup with was cold and tasted very bland. Our friends burger was served raw in the middle. Our server, while trying to be friendly, came off very loud and overbearing as she kept yelling "my friends" each time she came to the table. We also didn't really appreciate the open belly shirt she was wearing as it made her belly directly eye level with us each time she approached. Lots of potential here, but needs attention to the details.

Went last night around 5:15 to get an app and drink. The menu is a bit limited as is the drink list. The cheese plate was excellent! The purple haze with banana fig jam with the grilled bread-I could eat that every day. The bartender was very nice, and attentive as he could be but there was about 19 people he was tending to which made it difficult to get his attention. There was a female working there with an apron that offered NO help at all other than chatting up the chefs and eating out of bowl that was placed on the line. She drank her soda (plastic cup with straw-not from the restaurant) cleaned her tray and talked...and talked...and talked. I felt badly for the bartender he was very nice-does this woman know anything about team work? I don't think we will be back, there are so many fabulous places in Salem to drink and eat.

Wandered in on a dreary Saturday morning and had excellent service and probably the best breakfast that I've had in quite awhile. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I love the decor. I'd actually wanted to stop in for awhile and was glad that my mother and I happened to be in Salem on a quiet Saturday late morning in order to try their brunch menu. The menu wasn't huge but had a great variety of items. I almost went with the bread basket (which sounds amazing and I'm going to have to go back to try it) but wanted egg so I went with the counter breakfast which was what you would think - choice of egg, meat, home fries and toast. I also got their cold brew which was so good. Very strong and smooth. I loved the breakfast. No lie, best scrambled eggs I've had in forever. I can't remember the last time I liked and finished eggs when eating out. I also really liked the spices on the home fries. Just a bit of a kick and salty - yum. Bacon was good and toast was just okay (wish they had a choice here but I was full and didn't eat much of it anyway). I was full because my mother ordered the brioche French toast and it was a massive portion so I kindly helped her out with a few pieces. Yummy taste of caramel sauce on the bread mixed with maple syrup. Sugar heaven and done perfectly. She loved it too but couldn't finish her plate. She also got tea and liked their selection. All in all, prices were fantastic for the quality and it was such a nice breakfast out. Staff were incredibly attentive and even put her tea in a to go cup for the road. I really want to try a couple of the other brunch items so I think I'll find a way back there pretty soon and recommend it if you're in Salem as it's a great location across from the East India Mall.

Great food and friendly staff! Husband got the Egg Wrap but took a bite before I could snap a photo. Haha service is slow, had to go find the server to order and also pay but if you're not in a rush it's greats!

    Mediocre French toast....sad to say

I will attach a picture...Don't order the French Toast! Looks OK, but flavor is not even there! Service (waiter) OK, but extraodinary time to receive the toast you would have thought it would have some semblance of an egg flavor. When I asked for bill, not even a question of "Is something wrong with you food?" Coffee was good, but almost room temperature. I don't usually take the time for such a review unless it is warranted.

Alright listen up....Derek is the man. Counter was our first stop after a 5 hour drive into town. Got a UFO beer, counter burger and the lady got the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Grilled cheese was A+. Tomato soup was creamy and had a good spice to it. Counter burger, out of this world. The salad tastes like they just picked everything from a garden. The beer was cold. Derek made me a white pumpkin Russian something and that dude can make a mixed drink. We'll be back before the weekend ends.

Tonight we went to dinner here. It was delicious. We had the duck appetizer and shared the scallops. Everything was so yummy. Even though they only have a limited menu, they soft opened, it was such a good selection. And did I mention the cocktails are yummy too

Mixed bag. Drinks are fun and bartenders are friendly and quick. Went for dinner with a party of four and two of us liked our meals and two did not. My husband referred to his salmon dish as "airplane food" so there's that. My gnocchi was just downright weird. They were going or something; I'm not sure what. However, it was OK. My friend got a burger and was pleased. Our waitress could have used some training. We have all worked in service, and we get it. It was not her fault. We were all saying how this earnest young lady simply was not trained properly to wait tables. She spilled several glasses of water across our table but then did not know what to do. We were all helping her out with the ensuing clean-up. The big shock of the evening was that all four of us planned to get dessert, but were told that they did not serve coffee. That was a deal-breaker for us. We walked over to Mr. Crepe and had coffee and dessert crepes on nearby Washington Street. Counter missed out on a much bigger check for our table. I would recommend sitting at the bar and getting a couple of drinks and some easy apps, but they really need to get their bearings for dinner service at Counter. Oh, and...Counter, buy some coffee and brew it. This can't be that hard.

On our first night in Salem, my friends and I chose this place for dinner, and we were immediately glad we did. Every dish tasted homemade and full of flavor, and the service, especially from our server Elisha, was warm, attentive, and personable. We started with the charred broccoli mac & cheese, which arrived piping hot and baked to perfection. Every bite was rich, creamy, and delicious. Honestly, it's up there with the best mac & cheeses I've ever had. For entrées, we shared the shepherds pie and the steak tips. The shepherds pie, made with a hearty mix of lamb, beef, peas, carrots, house mashed, and cheddar cheese, was fresh and perfectly balanced. The steak tips were cooked to our liking, tender, and seasoned beautifully. Both dishes were comforting and satisfying. Olde Main Street Pub delivered exactly what we were hoping for: great food, genuine service, and a cozy atmosphere. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in Salem.

IThe bar serves 12 draft beers, beer cans/bottles, wine, and cocktails. After a drive on a foggy evening, I stopped in at Trade House for some late evening food and to catch the Celtics game on TV. I took a seat at a high top table next to the bar. The server came over in a couple minutes after I settled in. I requested an ice water and immediately placed my food order. For a starter, Fried Calamari ($16 plus tax) served in a bowl had flash fried calamari rings & tentacles with a light coating, very tender to eat with lemon wedge for zest and a pomodoro sauce for dipping. For dinner, the Southern Fried ($17 plus tax) was stacked with lettuce, tomato, red onions, thick crunchy fried buttermilk chicken, pimento & pickle chips on a toasted bun. The side of thinner cut golden fries was salted and firm, ketchup cup on the side. I very much enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich with the crisp fries. After I was done, the server dropped off the check, which was $35.31 with tax and before tip. Overall, a great tasting fried meal in a noisy pub, NBA finals on TV, and adequate service.

When we arrived the place was nearly empty, which come to find out places aren't as busy on a Monday. There was one other table finishing up in the main dinning area, and one other group arrived at the same time we did. We were greeted and sat quickly, but that's where the speed of things kinda came to a slow down. I'll start with some of the positives - our waitress was really nice and she had a helper who also was nothing but polite and friendly. The decor is really cool! There was no one in the entire back room of the restaurant, so I went and took a peak back there on the way to the bathroom and it had old cameras, typewriters, cool pieces of art, the main room also have some great scales of justice, and other fun features. They also had all the Halloween decor, if anyone needed to use the restroom we were told to go towards the large mirror, and I would always add on to my friends "with the creepy doll on it". After about 2 to 3 minutes my entire party had and water was brought to the table and served in plastic cups. Which at a place with white table clothes felt a little strange. At some point after our waitress returned to take drink orders and an appetizer of the calamari. She then asked "have I offered you all any bread yet" we said no, but we would love bread. She said "okay it will be $3" and walked away. We all kinda looked at each other confused, because the phrasing seemed like it was complementary bread but we were really hungry at this point and the bread ended up being really good - but it was a small portion for $3. I think 6 thinner slices in total. We waited a while before she returned for our food order. The menu has what you expect from an Italian places but also has a large section of Mexican dishes, which feels mismatched, it wasn't fusion style it was just Italian and Mexican separately, it just feels really disjointed. I went with the bolognese and one of my friends decided to order the tacos because it felt so silly to do in an Italian spot (and who doesn't like tacos generally). The calamari came out at some point after the bread, but we finished the bread, the calamari, and all our waters at a causal pace after that. We were sitting for a while before anyone came back to the room where we were seated. At this point there were maybe 3 or 4 tables sat in our room and possible one other couple up towards the front area. As many of us were out of water, I headed up towards the bar area or host stand to see if I could find someone. I ran into the guy who was assisting with our table and asked if we could get some more water - which happened promptly. About 5 to 10 minutes after that our waitress returned with even more water and told us food would be out soon. The food arrived maybe 10 minutes after that, so it had been a while since we ordered. The bolognese was fine, the pasta wasn't overcooked, the sauce lacked some depth and the meat was a little firmer than anticipated but overall it was still okay. They did offer some Parmesan cheese to be added to any of the pastas or tacos. The total for 5 people, with no alcohol, one soda, one order of calamari, the $3 bread, and the already added gratuity (which they did mention was already added in at 20% and it was also stated on the bill) ended up being $208. Overall, the food was fine, nothing to make a special trip for. Service was friendly, but very slow. The vibes were a little mismatched - Mexican food with Italian food and plastic cups with white table clothes. Overall, it's a fine experience if you are needing a reservation.
