Despite what I have read in other reviews recently, I have to disagree about both the service and the quality of the burgers. My partner and I made a reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday night, needing to attend a concert nearby at 8:00PM. Our server, Joey M., came right to the table and was apprised of our need to leave by 7:45. A&B Burgers was packed that night, so this was a good test of service. Joey brought our drinks within 10 minutes of taking the order and then took our burger order. It took about 25 minutes to arrive, and with a leisurely meal, we were able to depart at exactly 7:45 as requested. The burgers are definitely as good as I remembered when they first opened. My partner had the Nick's BBQ burger and I had the Black and Blue burger. Both were excellent: the Carolina BBQ sauce was tart rather than sweet, and the black and blue with onion crisps and bacon had just the right amount of blue cheese flavoring. The "hand-held" burger was just right for eating, neither overstuffed nor just too thin. I had the sea salt fries (good but not distinguished) and my partner had the side salad with a vinaigrette that sadly for her was balsamic and thick, although I loved it. We passed on dessert (not enough time). We each had the 9oz Black Stallion Cabernet ($21/glass) and it was good but overpriced for the quality. We walked out feeling that we had enjoyed a good pre-theatre meal for $100 including a tip. We were not able to stay for the music, but the one song we heard was promising had we stayed. Our Restaurant Week experience at A&B Burgers was extremely disappointing. The el fresco seating was pleasant and I had a delicious glass of wine but that was about it. The homemade chips came with a French onion dip that was inedible, and the potatoes were initially undercooked. We sent them back, only to have them returned overcooked and hard, although at least crispy. The burger had a very gamey taste and the pasta was bland and tasteless, with the pasta itself overcooked. The only thing that was remotely enjoyable was the crème brûlée--but even that was an incredibly tiny portion, barely 1/4 inch thick, and it didn't even have the crispy caramelized top you'd expect. For a Restaurant Week menu, this was a huge disappointment. Terrible food, poor execution, and absolutely not an experience I would recommend. Great vibes, music, service, and food. The Royale is a true smash burger and for some reason or another that is particularly hard to find these days. Egg rolls were delicious as well. Will be back in the summer for some more when the weather gets better!! read more

i used to love a&b burgers, but it seems like since they opened their boston location, this is the last priority to the owners. they used to be so good! i have told myself i'm not coming back numerous times, then i give them another chance every 6 months or so, and they just keep disappointing. my favorite order has been their steak tips, but now they no longer offer honey butter with it, and the meat they use is a very tough bad cut. the menu said it came with garlic bread, but when i got home, i realized it came with a biscuit. if it comes with a biscuit, honey butter should come with it; if the menu says garlic bread, it should come with garlic bread. they have an inconsistent menu, i shouldn't have to remind them what is listed on their own menu online. they're trying to stay afloat by offering deals, but not investing into their quality of food the way they used to. this used to be one of my favorite local bars, but it's obvious they don't care about customer satisfaction anymore. during my most recent visit, i tried their steak tips again, i only ate the broccoli and mashed potatoes because the steak was not good. i tried 2 bites, cut open the rest and saw the meat was not the quality expected. unfortunately i've given them 6+ too many times to disappoint, and i won't be returning. ambiance: 3/5 food: 1.8/5 service: 2.5/5 a&b burgers: 2.4/5 read more

A friend of mine warned me this place wasnt as good as it was after it opened. My wife and I had already made a reservation before seeing a show at the Cabot Theater two hours before the show 03/28/26. We were being generous with the time we alloted to get two burgers. The server who took our order was friendly. But a bit aloof. Twenty minutes after we placed our order she came to our table apologized and gave us an excuse - we lost your order. She verified our order, she got my order wrong, but I said I'd be happy with either burger. Kitchen's don't "lose orders" once they are in the POS system they are there to stay. I mean a kitchen. can lose a ticket, or food can be taken to the wrong table, but the order is still in the POS system and can be reprinted. I'd bet she just didnt put it in. The food was acceptable but the burgers had clearly been sitting in the window as they were luke warm. The fries were still warm, so I blame the kitchen for that. The nice couple who was seated 8 minutes after us received their order 20 minutes before we did - moments after she told us "there was a mix up in the kitchen, we lost your order, what were you having? Was it...?". It shouldn't take over 50 minutes to get an $18-19 burger. I can forgive the server for making an error, but offer something. Anything. We were very clear that we were going to the show. The server pretended she knew who the musical guest was we were going to see, perhaps out of embarrassment, perhaps she was just being cordial, so she was keenly aware, just didnt care. When a guest goes out of their way to say they have theatre tickets it is a signal to the server to prioritize the table and warn the guests if they order something that takes the kitchen a long time to prepare. Any restaurant in a theatre district or even near a single theatre knows this. This didnt happen. When the food was late, the runner dropped the items on the table, and announced that my wife's burger was something different than what she had ordered. It was the correct burger, but seriously, get your act together. If I ever had a table that was being served so late I would show up with the runner, or deliver it myself. Even the drinks took forever. My wife had ordered a cider, delivered by another runner or a bartender. The second cider showed up with just a can during our 50 minute wait for 2 burgers, perfect opportunity to say this drink on the house. Even if that is technically illegal in MA it happens everywhere, Nope. They charged us "Full Boat". Didn't comp a drink, or offer a dessert, nothing. Lousy service for acceptable food. We could have gone to Sonics, or tried the new Whopper, or the Big Arch and had another drink at the theatre. It's been forever since I last went to A&B Burger because of my previous experiences. I was in the area for a work meeting, so I thought I would get some take out on my way home. I ordered the B Burger with Sea Salt fries and the Royale with Cheese Burger with Bacon Truffle fries. My son had the Royale which he wasn't very pleased with. It was overly covered in condiments and not enjoyable to eat. His Bacon Truffle fries had barely any bacon on them, and they didn't taste as delicious as they used to when we first tried them. I had the B Burger, and after the first bite, I realized there was no sauce at all on the burger. I had to add my own at home. The taste overall was subpar, nothing like from what I remember. The only thing I really enjoyed was the Sea Salt fries, which surprisingly stayed crispy. One other plus was the $5 off the order because it was a Tuesday night. Used to be a great burger but tonight neither of our burgers had the toppings listed on the menu (!) - sooo strange- and when we asked the server he was confused and said oh maybe it's all cooked inside the burger? What? Big fail on the burgers/chef who must have been sleeping back there. Also the 'french onion' dip on Restaurant Week menu was...not good (seems hard to mess up a chip dip but it tasted off). Service was great, drinks were good , but the burgers weren't what they used to be! I used to love their burgers now they are like a pre-formed patty so the texture is just tough and not the same. I really think they should go back to hand shaping that patty and make it loose and juicy! very disappointed! Tired and discouraged from a shopping trip and took myself out for a bite before heading home. If you haven't been to A&B burger it's holiday as soon as you step in the door. The staff have made it delightfuL!! For kids of all ages, it's magical. See if you can located the gnomes. I had the grilled Cajun salmon and it was mouth watering good. fish & chips fries were ok. fish tasted old and bland. the fish batter tasted cheap it was tough to get through. please change that recipe it's weak. I've been eating fish & chips forever it's just not good. Looked great but just wasn't. wanted to love it! waitress tried to charge $1.00 for watery ranch that passes as tartar sauce. that ranch dressing was ok but the upcharge was very suspect because of the low quality of the frozen fish. Waitress was slow, nice but took quite a while to notice us and the place was very empty for a Sunday night. This used to be a go-to spot for us, but stopped going to A&B several years ago - their prices had gone up significantly and we didn't want to spend over $20 on a simple burger. However, we were recently lured in by a $5 burger special (every night after 8:30 pm) and we were pleasantly surprised to see that the menu had been redone! Prices are much more reasonable now, and the quality is still great. We ordered A burgers and sweet potato fries - boy did we miss those fries!! Burgers were just your basic burgers (since that's what the special offered), but they were delicious and exactly what we wanted. I just had the best burger in my entire life and I am 76 years old. I had the A Burger with sweet potato fries. The burger is grilled to perfection. The sweet potato fries have a dippling sauce that is so good. For dessert I had the flourless brownie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Best of all was our host, Brenan. He was such a professional. Friendly, knowledgeable and really knew his stuff. Jen was in training and she did a great job. Good attitude and great smile. Can't wait to go back. read more

Had a horrible experience about a year ago where we waited 45 minutes for an appetizer, they admitted they forgot, and then brought it out when we were almost finished with our meal. I vowed never to return, but I decided to give it another shot and regret that! Went last week and despite being only one of 2 tables in the restaurant, it took 30 minutes to get our drinks, and then NO ONE returned to take our order until we went to the bar to asked if they can take our order. No one ever apologized for the wait and seemed completely uninterested in serving us. I almost never complain, but this was the last straw for me! read more

I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, but other than that the food was bad. Had a burger. Poor flavoring, like not even the basics, salt and pepper. The bacon tasted like biting straight into the side of a pig, the "crispy onion strings" were the chunkiest onion RINGS youve ever seen with such a soggy crust, the crust wasn't even staying on. And the sauce was disgusting. I was spoken down to like idk what carolina bbq sauce is after being polite about not liking the food .... mind you i was asked how the food was, it's not like i just said it unsolicited. I love bbq, i love all kinds of sauces but that was not sauce, let alone bbq sauce. tried to dip a fry in it and none of the bbq sauce even stayed on the fry as if it was oil. theres a difference between something being a base and it being the entire flavor. didnt like the woman's attitude after telling her politely how we felt about the meal after her asking us. we asked if we could perhaps swap it because i took like two bites and my bf like 3 because he's a garbage disposal and will eat anything but even he couldn't push through. but maybe us asking that is what annoyed her? either way we werent being rude and we didnt mind it not being swapped/comped we didnt even make a fuss, but due to her attitude we ended up just leaving. take the money! incredible how you can completely mess up a burger like that and then be offended about it. read more

While training new employees may create issues with getting orders right, if you take the time to let them know the issues, then you give them the opportunity to make sure they understand and correct the problems. We sat at the bar just before it got busy. Once the restaurant started to fill up, the two bartenders had a lot to deal with. What started as good attentive drink service went downhill quick. I wanted a pain killer, but they had no cocoa nut cream. So I asked for a captain and coke. No Captain Morgans!!! We wanted one more drink but we didn't get any attention. So we just decided to cash out after waiting more than 10 minutes. The food was good. Hot and prompt. The cheese burger egg roll appetizer was interesting. My family and I enjoyed our meal at A & B! We were visiting the area and when we asked some locals where the best place to eat was many of them pointed us to A & B and I'm glad that we listened! We went in half an hour before closing, making sure to ask if that was okay, and everyone working there was very kind and happy to have us. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly; we were lucky to have her! None of us ordered burgers which feels like a sin but the pot pie and biscuit were insanely good but the friend chicken dinner was just okay. If I was in the area again I would definitely go back and...probably order the pot pie again because it was so good. read more

Long wait times for the food and a ridiculously inattentive waitress. So we ordered drinks without issue, but then it was all downhill from there... Waited long for the appetizers, but it wasn't too bad compared to how long we waited for the main course, which was just 4 burgers. At no point during that wait did the waitress stop by and apologize or even offer us a complimentary appetizer or something, anything to make the situation more bearable. Then our food came and she walked by us about 20 times and never stopped and asked us how our food was or offered us refills. She missed the chance to sell us at least 3 more beers. I don't get it. As for the food, average at best and not at all worth the wait. And it was weird that the waitress said the fries would be a little salty, yet they weren't at all. All in all, it took us 1.5 hours to get two burgers, one being a veggie burger, no apps, no drinks, just two burgers and two fountain drinks. In addition we walked past several dirty tables, there was music that had been playing when we walked in and I just stopped, the bar was a mess. Overall rating is a 3; this is the average of the food and the service. Service: Michelle waited on us and was great - overall service were a 4. She was attentive, friendly, and checked in often to see how things were. Again, she was great and service alone was a 4. Food: this was a solid 2. We ordered the chips and dip as an app to start and it was really good. Michelle came over and offered to bring us more dip for our extra chips, we said sure. It's a French onion dip, and the odd thing was the new dip tasted different than the original one we received. The first was well balanced and really good, the second was overly sweet, to the point we didn't finish it. For entrees we got burgers. My wife got the A burger and I got the B burger. For sides my wife got a side salad and I got the bacon truffle fries. Both of our burger patties weren't seasoned and the overall burger was bland. I was hungry so I finished mine, my wife had half and called it quite. At first we thought we were missing the "A&B Sauce" but after some investigative work, we found a small amount of sauce that looked like a remoulade sauce, but was seemingly flavorless. The vibe was great and there was live music for brunch which was nice. If the food was even a little better, I'd go back, but unfortunately as good as the service was, this will be a 1 and done for us. read more

we only really come here for the $5 burger and fries deal that happens every night after 8PM. we've gotten full meals here before, and it is always disappointing, but the $5 is cheap enough to keep us coming back if we are looking for an affordable way to eat out. the service is always super slow. tonight we were there for an hour just to get our burgers even though the restaurant was fairly empty. we sat there for 20 minutes just waiting for the check (clearly done eating) and our drinks were empty for 80% of our meal -- no check in for refills. overall, it's fine, but nothing special. that, paired with consistently poor service, is why I am rating it so low. read more

My sister, 6 month old baby, and I went in for dinner tonight and we asked for a table outside. My baby was in a stroller and the host sat us outside between two empty tables. Well they ended up filling up and the general manager came over "I need to seat this table" with a terrible attitude, so my sister replied, "Go ahead." The manager rolled her eyes at us and then stared us down the rest of the time we saw her. I should add our server was great. Fast forward my baby was crying, so my sister went in to ask for the check so we could get going. The manager was right there and stared her down, so my sister asked what the issue was. The manager got very close to her, telling her that she's rude and she shouldn't have responded "Go ahead." My sister said she was responding that way due to the way she announced she needed to seat that table to us. The manager told my sister that we caused a fire hazard by having our stroller, and my sister asked why we were sat there then. The manager then stated that we're banned for life. My sister asked for the bill so we can leave, the manager said no, the restaurant will take care of it and we needed to leave immediately or else she will call the police. They exchanged some words back and forth. My sister comes out and says we need to leave because we were banned. I was very confused, as I was outside calming my baby down and talking to the table next to us (who never once stated the stroller was in the way. We were laughing together.) I told her no, we aren't leaving and that we need to pay our tab and tip our server, we cannot leave on the bill. The server came out, I informed him we were being banned but I wanted to pay and tip him. He replied, "What? You guys didn't do anything wrong?" The manager came rushing out saying we need to leave or the police will be called. I replied I just want to pay and we can leave, she said no it is taken care of and that we were very rude. I responded that I've never even spoken one word to her, she told me that we were creating a fire hazard having the stroller between two tables. I was so confused and asked her, why were we sat there then? How were we to know this was an issue? To which she stated she wasn't sure but that the baby wasn't even in the stroller anyway. (Which he was when sat down, so I'm unsure what that mattered.) She reiterated that we needed to leave. We tipped our server and left. We were NEVER ONCE asked to move our stroller or to move tables to where we could fit a stroller. Nothing. We both come from restaurant background and are very kind to servers and waitstaff. This general manager was beyond unprofessional, I've never been so upset leaving a restaurant. Multiple people left after us as we were leaving and stated that manager is extremely rude and they saw her behavior. This could've been prevented had we been asked to fold the stroller up, move the stroller, move tables, never had been sat there in the first place, anything else besides this treatment.
