Excellent ambiance and the food speaks for itself! Read on for the deets!!! Started with the blue cheese stuffed dates that Michael Petrigno aka What Would You Eat Today Sir loves and they were excellent! Wrapped in n bacon with a balsamic reduction that takes your tastebuds to a smokey realm of happiness! Great texture with each bite! Next the burrata which was like a posturepedic pillow of deliciousness laying upon some diced tomatoes with what I believe was a balsamic reduction drizzle and possibly pesto... all I know is I never wanted it to stop! For the entree I went pan seared scallops with white truffle whipped potatoes, and a corn veloute... no chincing on scallops here! There was plenty and the combination of flavors was exquisite! The truffle potatoes were amazing and I could have swam in the corn veloute! I also got to try a bite of the swordfish and holy heck that was amazing as well! Everything cooked perfectly! Last but certainly not least was this amazing chocolate cake served warm with vanilla ice cream & sea salt caramel sauce! Amazing bites that were so melt in your mouth delicous! Michael and I sat at the bar this past Saturday and Rachel was our bartender. She was FANTASTIC! Kind, polite, efficient and funny. I had their signature "mule" cocktail which was very yummy. My husband had a draft in which Rachel had to change the keg but she didn't seem annoyed by having to do this. We have gone to places where the bartender was too busy to change it out and told him to order a different beer. But not Rachel. She also brought us waters and bread without us having to ask for it. We shared the crab cake appetizer and the duck entree, which were well proportioned and delicious. The bar was cozy and I love the blue paint color and thankfully the Celtics were not playing that evening because the bar does not have a TV. So if you are looking for a quaint bar that does not offer TV, a bubbly bartender, scrumptious food, than 9 Elm is the place. :) read more

So disappointed in what used to be a delightful restaurant. One visit in April was not up to par, but any place can have a bad night, so we gave them a second chance, and tonight was even worse. The wait staff was terrific as always, but then there was the food. The stuffed date appetizer was wrapped in burnt bacon. The only flavor was charcoal and ashes. The lobster ravioli sauce was so over salted as to be inedible, the scrimpy crab cake was missing any crab flavor, and finally, for dessert, the crème brûlée topping crust was burnt black. Really good food, reservation is recommended as this place seems small and packed. Service was ok, this stopped me from giving a fifth star. Waitress walked away a few times while we were talking to her. Seemed like she wanted to take care of other parties as we were maybe new or she could tell we were from out of town. We came on a recommendation of a prior server. We came in with the plan to have dinner and drinks but the menu was really nothing special or unusual like i strive for so we opted for a pear martini and my friend did the wedge salad because she was so hungry. The martini was ok. The blue cheese on the salad was amazing! Nice and crisp with fresh bacon and tomatoes. Jackie, our server was good it just took a little bit for her to come to our table but she was attentive when she introduced herself. Repeat diners here, we visited Friday evening and it was superb. Krissy was an awesome server, checked back often to be sure everything was good. Started with a delicious shrimp app that was on special that night. My wife chose the duck with risotto, the best duck she's ever had. We have been eyeing 9 Elm for many years now, and finally made it there for dinner! I am so glad that we did, and will be making it a regular stop moving forward. This cozy bistro in Danvers has the perfect relaxed ambiance - it feels super welcoming and makes you want to stay a while! I was so impressed with the high-quality service, and their food was outstanding! I was a bit concerned by the lack of vegetarian options on the menu but was able to put together a dinner by combining a salad and appetizer (both were SO good). I would love to see a vegetarian-friendly entree on the menu in the future! I can't wait to come back soon! This is a must-stop if you are in the Danvers area! read more

What an unexpected gem this place is, and it's tucked away in a shopping plaza near the Hamilton, MA train station. They have a varied menu and do salads, apps., burgers, and entrees that make you glad you stopped in! By yourself, with a group, or on a date, 9 Elm offers a great setting to enjoy the delicious foods that you order and the company that you keep. I've gone here with my elder Mom, with a few buddies from FL, and also flew solo to "belly-up-to-the-bar" when heading home from Crane's and felt like having a drink and a great meal. There is plenty of seating at tables, booths, and in small nooks with upholstered arm chairs. If you decide that you're not cooking tonight, let these friendly and well-trained people serve you something delicious-- be it a craft cocktail or a wedge salad with bacon, blue cheese, and cherry tomatoes. We came here from a recommendation of the server at another restaurant. Although it is cute, cozy, and friendly the drink and food choices were limited and not very interesting. We ended up getting pear martinis and a wedge salad and elected to eat elsewhere. The salad was a generous portion, crisp, fresh, and tasty. The martinis were average. I can't believe it's taken me so long to come here! After a fiasco of a night finding an alternative restaurant for dinner, my mom and I ended up getting bar seats at 9 Elm. The cozy atmosphere, delicious food and lovely staff turned our night completely around. Authentic Italian food and even more authentic people - we had so much fun chatting with George and Jean. Still a great place to get a steak. We came here for the company party. Once again I think my filet mignon was excellent, perfectly cooked. The red wine reduction lacked punch(a consistent thing here). Maybe it has to do with the kind of wine they use. There is one negative from the visit this time. My wife and I have not had much luck with dining out lately so when it came to picking a restaurant for our anniversary dinner I was nervous that I would find the right place. I came across Nine Elm and read the reviews. They were amazing. So we made a reservation but I was still cautiously optimistic. Things could not have gone better! We arrived and where we were seated was noising, not what we wanted for an anniversary dinner. When I asked the waitress if there was a quieter spot she went to speak to the manager in we were moved immediately. The general atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and the staff is very friendly but professional. The wine was lovely and the food delicious. We ordered the duck and the swordfish special and they were both cooked to perfection. For dessert we split a Creme Brule. The custard was light and creamy a pleasant surprise. We had an amazing time. We will be back! read more

My husband and I recently tried 9 Elm for date night and we were not disappointed. We had a reservation and we were immediately sat at a table overlooking the street. We were seated by the host stand, which while is not the most ideal location, it was quieter than the main dining room. We both got appetizers, my husband the French onion soup and me the shrimp crostini. They both were full of flavor and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. For our entrees, I had the scallops and my husband the pork chop. The scallops were cooked perfectly, while my husbands pork was slightly over cooked, it was still delicious and he ate the whole thing. Our server was the perfect amount of attentive, not over bearing, but touched the table throughout each course. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant! read more

We were in the area for a wedding and were looking for a dining spot for the evening before the celebratory day. I had come across 9 Elm and thought it looked like the perfect destination for a few of us to enjoy a meal. On that evening, we stopped some women to ask for a recommendation on where to park near the cute downtown restaurant, and they let us know that there was actually a parking lot a block down from the space. They also shared their rave reviews of the restaurant, highlighting some of their menu favorites. With all of that praise in our ears, we quickly parked and headed to meet our friend, who was sitting in a comfortable booth in the dining room. While my companions ordered beverages, I stuck with water, but I did not hesitate to grab some slices of bread. My Pan-Roasted Duck was tender and well-cooked. It was sliced and served over haricot verts, carrots, and a sweet, smoky bacon and butternut squash risotto. While I loved the execution of all of these elements, there was way too much of the overly sweet orange-soy reduction on the plate. Thé ease of getting a rare find dining experience was the first sign that dinner was going to to great. First course of burrata with heirloom tomato was great. The main course of swordfish with risotto and veggies was out of this world. The mixed green salad w beets and nuts and cheese could have been my only thing it was so good. read more

My wife and I had just gotten out of the movie theater and were looking for something near Liberty Tree Mall that wasn't fast food or a quick-serve chain, and this place came up on Yelp. It is VERY non-descript from the outside, we went by it a couple of times without seeing it. We didn't have a reservation, but the hostess seated us anyway and told us up front that they had a reservation for our table an hour later. We appreciated knowing and also appreciated that she was willing to give us a table even with a time constraint. Even with that, we didn't feel particularly rushed and still managed to get out before their reserved party arrived. The menu is pretty standard fare and the entrees are very meat-focused, so maybe not a good choice if you need a vegetarian option. My wife,who is not a big meat eater, was satisfied with salad and the lobster ravioli appetizer, but they could add some more meatless choices. I had the bone-in ribeye steak special. I was very pleased to ask for and get medium-rare, since way too many places can't seem to do steak right. It had a sweetish red wine reduction sauce, roasted fingerling potatoes, and sauteed baby spinach. My only complaint about the food was the baby spinach -- baby spinach is for salads, not sauteeing, because there's nothing left but stems. Surely they could get some proper spinach somewhere or feature a different green like chard or kale. We skipped dessert so as not to delay the turn on the tabl, but, as I said, we didn't feel a bit rushed. We'll certainly give this a try again, with a reservation, to get a better sense. read more

Had the best dining experience last night at 9 Elm. Service was absolutely perfect. The waitress was very good at reading the table knowing exactly when we needed her, checking in with us only when we weren't talking/almost finished with our course/drinks. Everyone was please with their choices. I ended up with the Bistro Salad and Short rib ravioli for my meal. The Bistro Salad was one of the best salads I've ever had and the short rib ravioli did not disappoint. The vibe of the restaurant was calm and relatively quiet which added a lot to our experience since we were with friends we hadn't seen in a while and we wanted to talk. The bread pudding dessert was again one of the best tasting (and best textured) bread puddings I had ever had. I got the sidecar cocktail which was very good...maybe a little strong for me. Forgot to mention the bread was amazing, which that alone will get us to go back. The entrees looked epic and one of our party got the salmon and one got the pasta dish. However, I'm a bit of a picky/lighter eater and only 2 of the entrees really appealed to me. That's why I went with the salad and an app. Which worked out perfectly. I do recommend reservations, especially on weekends however, through out our meal I noticed seats open at the bar (Saturday night). We will be back read more

I stopped in here after a day of work for a nice dinner, which was a welcome reprieve from the snow outside. It's a small restaurant with a bar, and it's nice and comfortable. The staff was very nice and service was great, and I was able to get my order out quickly and served in the appropriate time frame. I started with bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese. These were great. Bacon was smoky and crispy, creating a strong contrast with the sweet and chewy dates and cheese. I then had the seared duck breast with risotto. The duck breast was cooked well, and it was quite tasty. I'm not a big fan of risotto, but as such it was fine. For dessert, I have the chocolate cake with sea salt caramel. I was expecting a bit more from this, but it was your standard molten cake. It was okay, but I was hoping for a real chocolate cake slice here. Overall, it was pretty good. I would come again, and try different plates for sure. read more

Despite living minutes away we hadn't been to Nine Elm in years! Tonight we dropped in without a reservation which wasn't a problem. We were greeted by friendly servers and seated promptly. The dining room has been expanded since our last visit so there about twice the number of tables as they once had. My husband went with a bourbon neat, they have a very solid selection of bourbons. I went with my Titos' dirty martini, as always. My drink was lovely, served with a bit of the Ice. I'm not shears a fan of this but the drink was stiff and the ice did give it a nice chill. We started with the onion soup and Caesar salad. The soup was great, onions could have been cooking longer and the broth was not as rich as I'd like but it was tasty none the less. My husbands salad was super fresh and not over dressed but topped with loads of fresh Parmesan. We also enjoyed the fresh bread and butter to start. The new dining area is bright and clean with minimal decoration but it works. There was soft background music on that seemed geared for the boomer generation. There were mainly older (50 plus) couples in the dining room with one young couple behind us. Our entrees were beautifully presented and the portions were large. My seared scallops were perfectly cooked and very sweet. The potatoes were fluffy and the veggies were crisp. My husband swordfish was also perfectly cooked and his risotto was the standout side dish, really flavorful and a nice complement to the fish. The buere blanc tied it all together. My only note on both dishes was that they could have been served a bit hotter. Nothing was steaming as though maybe the plates waited for the swordfish to be done, that was definitely the hottest (temperature) between the two plates. For dessert we each had a martini, espresso for me and chocolate for him. My husband never gets dessert martinis so this was branching out for him! We both loved our drinks! I prefers mine dark and our server even came over with the drink to be sure it was made the way requested. We enjoyed our dinner very much and look forward to the next time. They always have a nice selection of wines so perhaps next time we will head right to the bar and do some wine and apps for dinner. We ordered takeout tonight from 9 Elm. Everything from the salad to the steaks were amazing and everything was hot and fresh and carried super for takeout. When we ordered the hostess asked us what time we wanted to pick up our food. The timing was perfect when I arrived at the restaurant. Probably the best food I have ever had! Our table ordered truffle risotto, the chicken, pork chop and filet. Everything was cooked to perfection. I was concerned my son wouldn't like the food, but him and I shared the chicken dish. To my surprise the kitchen split our servings for us!
