Quite possibly one of the top 5 meals I've had in my life. The Beet "carpaccio" was exquisite, the salad also had one of the top 5 salad dressings I've ever had, I should add that I'm a salad dressing psycho and I could drink dressing and I sometimes do. (My all time fave being the Villa in Wayland dressing which is a town cult classic, the salad itself sucks though). The dressing was so lemony and fresh and I could tell it was made in house. I was surprised when our server said the plate was hot for a beet salad and delightfully it was because the goat cheese was melted onto the beets... yummmm ugh I wish I was eating it right now. The main event: THE TUNA My partner and I took one bite of the mashed potatoes with the miso sauce and both literally got chills and a tear came to our eyes. An amazing experience from start to finish. Service was wonderful, and the interior is super cute (a bit tiny/crowded, but eh, what can you do). Parking was accessible on the street, and the town of Swampscott is super cute. We ordered cocktails (espresso martini + blackberry margarita) that were super yummy & fresh. We then split the arancini appetizer, which was a sweet/savory dish & was fun to try. We also split the gnocchi and the pappardelle. Since one of us is vegetarian, we asked for the sausage of the pappardelle on the side and that was no issue! The sauces for both dishes were amazing and the gnocchi really stood out to me as being perfectly cooked/fresh! For dessert, we ended with the crème brûlée which they decorated for our anniversary! My family wanted to take my mother out for a birthday celebration. Not wanting to deal with the hassle of traveling all the way into Boston, we decided to check out this very close by establishment. We did not make reservations for a Tuesday night as we thought it wasn't going to be very busy. Upon arriving and having a difficult time finding parking on the street, we were sorely wrong. Therefore, I would definitely recommend making reservations in advance. Fortunately for us, another group of our size happened to just cancel so we were able to get a seat right away. It is a beautifully decorated and casual/formal ambience. For clarification, there is a bakery next-door that also provides a good sized menu. There is not a connection between them even though they are both owned by the same party. For appetizers in addition to the free bread and olive spread, we shared the brussels sprouts and octopus. The octopus was cooked well over a creamy and neutral complementary hummus. Brussels sprouts were definitely finished in the broiler as they thoroughly charred without being burned. Due to their caramelization, they did have a slight sweetness factor which was very satisfying. For entrees, we tried their Chicken Milanese, Shrimp fettuccini, duck, Pappardelle, Caesar salad with shrimp, and Eggplant lasagna. Lucky for me everybody in my party allowed me to try a bite of their dish. I was happy to realize that everything was honestly delicious. The chicken Milanese had a very thin layer of crispiness with the Barata cheese and balsamic glaze. All pastas are made in-house and you can definitely taste the TLC that they put into their food. The fettuccine is a great alternative if you want some thing a little lighter as the Pappardelle is a little heavy since they use sausage as their choice of protein. Duck was tender and flavorful over the bed of rice noodles and vegetables. My mom loved the eggplant and almost ate the whole thing (very rare for her FYI). Even though we were all beyond satisfied and full from our meals, we still decided to share a chocolate lava cake to honor my mothers birthday one more time. It looked like it came out of a textbook as it was exactly how you'd imagine it to be with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Overall, we had a stellar experience with even better service. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to celebrate, I am already looking forward to coming back and checking out the location next door as well. Half decent. It's kind of one of those lipstick on a pig places, where they think calling everything fresh and dayboat makes it great, when we all know nothing is fresh, local, or dayboat in Swampscott in February. A good example is the "fresh wild Atlantic salmon" special last time I was there. Wild Atlantic salmon is an endangered species. I inquired and the owner /chef guy G got all animated asserting it was wild. I don't think they are violating the endangered species act, they are just full of nonsense. read more

First time at G bar on date night with my wife. We ordered 3 apps and 2 entrees. Apps: Mussels: 4/5 pretty good, great sauce Mushroom Strudel: 2.5/5 ok, better with the sauce form the mussels Meatballs: 0/5 they tasted really dry and crumbled in your mouth. Overall, felt they lacked flavor. Entrees Lamb chops: 3/5 lamb was cooked perfectly, and sauce was good. I was looking forward to the potatoes with blue cheese, but they were quite salty. Limoncello Risotto: -3/5 my wife took 3 bites, I had 2. My wife said it tasted undercooked and in her words "reminded her of vomit.l I tried it and it tasted like undercooked Arborio rice with no flavor. All in all, we collectively took 5 bites. All in all, I think we left over 85% on the plate and decided not to take it home. Service was 6/5. They were attentive, and when my wife didn't eat the risotto, both the server and the manager were very reactive in asking for feedback. Several of my girlfriends met here on Saturday at 3:30 and everything went perfect. Nobody had ever been there before so it was new to all of us. We did make reservations since there were going to be 7 of us. As each of us strolled in, we ended up starting the night off at the bar. I noticed that there were 2 high tables that were vacant so we asked if we could put 2 high tables together and sit there vs them putting us in the back area where they were going to put us and we did not want to sit there. They accommodated us and from there we had a great female waitress, I really wish I knew her name because she was great. We started off with appetizers - grillos fried pickles, spinach and aritchoke dip with kettle chips and truffle onion dip with kettle chips. Everything was great but the onion dip was freezing cold and that is not my thing. We then ordered some bigger items, we got chicken parm pizza and Short Rib Poutine and OMG both were amazing. Brought the leftover chicken parm pizza home and my significant other enjoyed it as well. When the bill came I was looking it over and the awesome waitress said, do you want me to break up the bill by both tables. Even though we were together, it was going to be easier to have 2 bills so we did that and it all worked out great. The bar was pretty crowded at 3:30pm on a Saturday and by the time we left, around 7:00pm, the whole place was filled and it's a large establishment. I notice the restaurant hours on Yelp are incorrect. We met at 3:30 on a Saturday and the time on Yelp says they dont open till 4:00. I think they are open at 12:00 on Saturdays. Definitely a fun place to go and if you get our awesome female waitress, she was ON point with getting our drinks, guiding us with what to order for food and splitting the bill into two. Only downside is, I did feel they do a "light" pour on their mixed drinks so maybe stick with wine or beer. read more

Polished mediocrity! I always wondered if there are restaurants out there masquerading as high end but serving reheated or premade food. Looks like I found it. For example, their tuna appetizer comes with neon green grocery store avocado paste with it odd and bitter taste. Their meatballs taste reheated.. their food generally is very underwhelming. The service is ok.. not good enough to make up for the food. Although I would give them a pass on this due to the difficulty in finding staff in the service industry these days. If you want actual good food in the area, I highly recommend the Blue Ox in Lynn, fiber corners in Marblehead or Settler in Salem. read more

We stopped at the G Bar as curiosity has been at me for so many years on hearing rave reviews of this restaurant. We sat the bar on the right side not knowing there were two different bars at the location. We had three appetizers and two drinks as we didn't want to dive into big entrees. Well we were blown away. The appetizers were outstanding. Drinks were perfect and the bar service was first class. What made the evening better was the owner Gregory stepped out of the kitchen and introduced himself as he heard we were first time customers. Told us the history of the restaurant and his commitment to delivering a quality product. Well he is and we will be regulators. Oh! First time at this little gem of a restaurant and it did not disappoint. From the service,to the cocktails,to the food it was on point. Burrata appetizer with peaches and basil, probably the best smoked fish pate ever to start. Our party had the pappardelle with sausage,coffee crusted tuna,sirloin steak, and swordfish.. perfect! The food here is really amazing. I know that sounds overly generous but the chocolate soufflé might be the best chocolate dessert I have ever had in my entire life. I was delighted with the gluten free meatballs. Gluten free meatballs are hard to find and they were delicious. It's worth noting that my friend is not gluten free who I dined with but everything we shared was, and she loved it all as well. Service is great too; friendly and fast, but not so fast that you feel rushed. Relaxed and confident staff, and the ambience is definitely cool too. That's what this place reminds me of, I had heard so much buzz about it as being one of the best restaurants in Swampscott, but the food was okay, nothing to write home about. This was the worst meal I have been served in years, which was surpising since I'd already eaten at the G restaurant next door and found it excellent. The meatball appetizers were not even warm, but the chicken tenders were the real shocker. They obviously been in the hot fryer previously, maybe two or three times. Darkly burned. Tough as leather. We ordered two wines - a cab and a chianti. Served in a lowball glass, the wine measured less than one inch in height. In the biz, that's known as a short pour. I've never given a place a 1 star review, this is my first one. I called to make a reservation for Friday (9/12), we asked to sit outside and asked if their outdoor seating was dog friendly. We were told "yes that should not be a problem". We show up at 7:15 with our dog just to be told that "no we cannot allow your dog" I explained that I asked if it would be okay while making the reservation, because if it wasn't we would have left the dog at home and that the gentleman on the phone told me it was okay. The response I got was (with an attitude) "Yeah I don't know who told you that, you could have literally spoken to anyone here because anyone can pick up the phone". The fuck kind of response is that? First off learn how to speak to people with some manners when their money is what allows your salary to be paid. I don't act like a dick to my customers when I'm at work and there is an issue. Secondly, Yeah of course I could have spoken to anyone.......presumably a fucking employee because I called the fucking reservation number on your fucking website. So we got to waste an hour of our time driving to and from this restaurant on a Friday night just to be given some piss poor excuse of "you could have spoken to anyone". G Bar and Kitchen is that gourmet restaurant you expect to be in downtown Boston. Fortunately for us, it's right near our home. The staff are thoughtful and welcoming. The food is outstanding and changes seasonally (there are some signature dishes that are always on the menu). For appetizers, we always order the Brussels sprouts and Octopus. The Papparadelle pasta is oh so satisfying and loved by my whole family. For entrees, we always change it up but have never disliked a dish! read more

Typically I don't leave bad reviews. But this was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I've dined in many cities across the US, and in many types of establishments. We had an issue with one of six dishes. Rather than fix it, the manager and owner came out to tell us we were wrong. They flanked the person with the food, and the owner literally picked up the food off the plate with his bare hands to tell us it was fine when it obviously was not. Disgusting. He laid his hands on my 12-year old as well. He intimidated my entire family and we could not wait to leave. I have never felt so upset at a restaurant in my life. Very disappointed. read more

On a warm summer evening, there are many options for outside dining these days. I'm glad that G is one; just had a celebratory night out and picked this restaurant. Everything was fantastic. We were attended to by Franny, one of the nicest, most pleasant, accommodating, professional that I've experienced in a long while. She understood both the food and alcohol menu, explained and answered questions fantastically; truly an asset to the establishment. Every dish that came to the table was perfectly prepared, wonderfully presented a delight to eat. The outdoor seating was excellent; a row of parked cars to buffer the traffic passing really makes a difference. Had a birthday meal with my family at G Bar having not been there for a while . Whilst the food was the usual high standard, I can't say the same for the staff . The front of house staff were miserable, looked fed up , no smiles, no welcome or friendly chat - terrible. Our server retorted the specials with her body facing away, looking over the road while she did it , Really ? For a $200 meal I expect more - I get it next door at Cafe Avelina , in Mission, in Starbucks ! Service level is EQUALLY as important as the food quality perhaps even more . My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here last Friday evening. We have never been to swampscott before and loved the drive along the water to get to G bar. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and immediately sat. Our waiter was both knowledgeable and attentive. For dinner I had the pappardelle with sausage - the pasta was homemade as was the sauce, it was so fresh and exactly the comfort meal I was looking for. My husband ordered the veal chop and loved it as well. This would have been a 5 star review but the desert did not live up to its hype.. I had the key lime pie s'more and it was just ok, a little dry and not as gooey as I imagined it would be. My husband had the ice cream sandwhich and the cookies were really hard and dry which made it hard to eat. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and so welcoming, we look forward to coming back. read more

We really enjoyed the food for our anniversary dinner. Drinks were great and loved the octopus as an appetizer (best I've had!). The pappardelle was satisfying and my husband enjoyed the lampchops. The service was just ok. We were the only ones in initially and the environment was less than welcoming; felt more like we were interrupting and everyone seemed cold. We went out to celebrate and it was not an environment great for celebrating. With that said, we would recommend for the food only. read more
