First time here and I'm glad I came into the north shore of Boston. Usually I stick to New Hampshire but I had family in town and of course they all wanna see Boston so I looked up a spot around the area we were in and The Blue Ox should up. Once inside we were seated very quickly... We started with some Crispy Calamari that had peppers and a nice chipotle aioli sauce that went well together. Then we had the Mussels which were very good, it had lots of garlic which we love and it has white wine with heirloom tomatoes. Both appetizers were amazing. Now for my dish I went with the Sin Burger due to seeing a bunch awards for this burger so I had to try. So the burger I ordered was made medium with bacon, truffle aioli and Swiss cheese. It was so good and this dish was the highlight of my night. It was made to perfection and everything went well together in the burger. I'll definitely be back just to eat the burger again. Great vibes as soon as we walked in! Our server, Guy, was a phenomenal server. His recommendations were right on point. The bartenders really know how to make a drink. We tried the "demon seed" the blood orange old fashioned, the "bacon and legs" the "dirty and hot" and the limoncello sipper for dessert. Food wise, we did tuna tartar that I didn't think was spicy but my friend did. It had a nice whipped cream cheese as a base with some homemade chips. Normally I don't like chips but these were good. We also tried the wings. Piping hot, perfect crispness and the house blue cheese I could have eaten with a spoon. Tonight we went to The Blue Ox to celebrate my finance's birthday last minute and to say the least we were not disappointed ! We started off with the oysters and wings. Both were a 10/10. Oysters were very fresh and wings were crispy with perfect amount of spice. We got the sin burger and flat iron steak for main courses. Just as impressive as the starters ! First time here and I had the blue oxburger, which was delicious with blue cheese. The fries were just okay.I wouldn't rush back for them. Now our waiter was very combatitive.And I think it was his poor english.I kept trying to order my burger medium well and he said, we cook our burgers by temperature.So I told him then, what temperature is medium well? He seemed flustered and said, well, do you want it pink?In the middle, I said, no.I do not want it pink.And he says, oh, then you want it medium well, me and my five friends just looked at each other and laughed. 5 stars again. We come home bi-monthly and it never disappoints. The ambiance is great, and the food from start to finish is 5 stars. To start, we get the usual baked brie. This is the perfect way to start date night. A medley of fruit is baked with brie, topped with balsamic, and served with a lemon vinaigrette salad with walnuts + fresh baked bread. This time we also tried the watermelon and melon with burrata. Worth a shot, but was just OK. For our meals my fiancé got the salmon with couscous. She LOVED it. For my meal I always get the sun burger. The best burger in the metro Boston area!! Fresh smoked bacon and garlic aioli!! The service is always pretty solid. This is one of not the best restaurants on the north shore of Boston. Certainly has the best filet mignon I've had around here! The atmosphere is welcoming, our favorite server, Dawn, is amazing.... The adult drinks look and smell amazing (I've been told they taste pretty amazing too- can only speak to excellent g & ts!) We go monthly, or try to.... Embracing the full meal from delicious bread and butter, great salads (favorite is the pear), entrees of filets, or seafood and/or pasta and topping off either with sticky toffee pudding with cinnamon ice cream, or delectable cheesecake!! Every bite is one to savor. Dont discount the power of cinnamon ice cream, it's amazing. It's in a busy spot in downtown Lynn. Easier parking in the bank parking lot. I have not been to Blue Ox in maybe 7-8 years? I hosted a small, intimate event there today. The food was amazing as I remember it 8 years ago. The staff was very accommodating, patient, and professional. Joe, the general manager was FANTASTIC. He made sure every detail was taken care of and was at the event to make sure everything went smoothly. The venue is clean, modern, and can match any decor style. I was in town and was taken to this place for dinner because it was highly recommended. After spending time going trough the menu and spying on all the food around me, I chose the filet medallions. I ordered them medium-rare, and it was cooked perfectly. The meat was so tender and juicy that I switched to my butter knife to cut it up. The asparagus was extra thick and grilled to be soft on the outside with a nice little bite on the inside. The mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful too.The wine reduction gravy was the perfect addition to bring all the flavors together. It was rich and it had a deep complex flavor. It really made the steak and potatoes even more delicious. I finished the meal by sharing the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was also amazing.It was the perfect way to end a delicious meal. The service was excellent too. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. My family came here to celebrate my nieces birthday. Compared to its reputation before, it has become more family friendly as there were lots of young kids around. Prices also match the casualness of it as well which we were surprised about. My sister and I shared their baked stuffed Brie as well as an order of mussels. Most people got their burgers and my sister got their half Chicken and Herb Roasted Boneless. The Brie was stuffed with figs, apricots, and cranberries. It was salty, sweet and delicious on the soft baguette slices drizzled with balsamic glaze. The mussels looked good but the flavorful was overpowering. Chicken was crispy and salty. French fries had too much salt and served as the truffle fries even though everyone wanted the plain ones instead. Dessert was their chocolate cake and the sticky toffee cake with cinnamon ice cream. Chocolate cake was too sweet in my opinion. The toffee wasn't sticky but it was warm and soft. I really enjoyed the ice cream and would like a pint to take home. Overall, we had a decent experience. Food was okay with fair prices. Staff were incredibly friendly and quick to check in on us. Would come again to try their burger next week with more Brie. It's a casual environment with tight parking in the eastern bank next door as it was already full by 5:50 pm. There is also the other lot across the street with plenty of spots. read more

Needless to say my plans were thrown off course when the bartender (Nate) convinced me to try the special, which was meatloaf. I can go back anytime for a burger, but the meatloaf was a limited time option. Glad he convinced me. Started out my meal with some fresh Great White oyesters - excellent brine and a nice finish. Could have easily eaten a dozen of these. Followed the oysters with the main course of the meatloaf. It was sitting on top of mashed potatoes, spinach and a nice demi-glace. After spending the afternoon looking at houses, we met some friends here for some much-needed sustenance. I have heard great things about this place, not just on yelp but with friends too. Our server was great and funny and made me a special mojito that was not too sweet and was super refreshing! Decor: very dark in here, cozy bar feeling. Plenty of seating. Food: We started with the truffle fried and oysters. Both are outstanding and could have been a meal all on their own. The guy opted for the ribeye special, this was a big cut of meat on the bone. It was pricey! I wish the server had given us the cost beforehand or wish we had thought to ask because, at the end of the dinner, we were all a little shocked at the bill. The guys said it was worth it tho. I got the corn risotto and opted to add lobster to it. This was delicious. There was heat from something in there that melded beautifully with the sweet from the corn and lobster. Also, plenty of lobster throughout. Another friend got the chicken, and wow, the crisp on that skin was divine! She and I could not finish - so yay for lunches the next day. Only four stars (so far) because I have not yet had dinner there; I've had excellent oysters and very good cocktails, and expert and friendly service, and fun conversations. The menu is very enticing, and the vibe is cool in the afternoon-- I stop on my way home from work for a post work day drink (Bacon & Leggs-- bacon infused bourbon and a hint of syrup) and some fresh oysters about once a week. If we could give the Blue Ox 10 stars we would! From the food to the ambiance everything is amazing! When you walk in it's an absolutely fabulous vibe with a nice welcoming atmosphere. We love sitting in the bar area as it's a great show to watch the amazing bartenders work their magic. We have been in twice now as this is now our go to spot when we come to town. We have family that lives here and the Blue Ox too is there favorite place to go. Their cocktails are outstanding and their custom cocktails in particular their old fashioned are amazing. They have house made bourbon which is my husband's absolute favorite. Their espresso martinis are also a family favorite as well! The food is also amazing! I personally love the lobster shrimp scampi as the pasta is homemade and by far one of the best dishes I have ever had. Their steaks are also amazing and literally melt in your mouth. The baked brie appetizer is one of our favorites too. The servers and managers also go above and beyond to take care of you. From the servers and bartenders to the management they go out of their way to make you feel welcome and get you exactly what you want. We are counting down until we come back to town as the Blue Ox will be our first stop for sure as it is always fantastic every time we go. They wanted to seat the 4 of us in the back next to the busing station.....seeing the corner widow table in the front was vacant I asked to be seated there, duh why would you put us there? From there on it went really well. Three of our dinners were perfect the 4 was the scampi and was over cooked my wife only ate half of them. Amazing food! Stopped by during a Salem trip after finding them on Yelp and everything we had here was fantastic. We got the Tuna tar tar and calamari for appetizers, which was super crispy. I also appreciated the fried veggies that accompanied it in the dish. My husbands swordfish was cooked perfectly and my grilled hanger steak with chimmichuri was so flavorful! My favorite tuna tartare north of Boston, their pear and goat cheese salad, the truffled parmesan fries, the "Sin" Burger (a best of Boston champ from some years back), and their gorgeous, locally sourced cod... they're all there. Fabulous local diner/bar! Tuna tartare is my favorite so far. It contains a strong sweet taste and a slightly sour taste. The thin sliced crispy chips work perfectly with the soft tuna meat. The ox wings were a little bit too spicy and salty for me, but I can tell this would be a great bar food because of its features. Truffle fries is another must try appetizer. Order a beer with it and enjoy the chilling bar atmosphere. The service was way more than just good. The server kept checking on me and refilled my Diet Coke without me asking. We had very high expectations for The Blue Ox and had waited for a special occasion to visit. It was superb. On this Tuesday night, the place was bustling. Our advanced reservation placed us in the dining room side although we also could have reserved a high top table on the bar side where you enter. Our server was a great Guy- very knowledgeable, helpful and checked-in frequently without being overbearing as we planned our meal. We decided to split three items all delivered sequentially to perfection. We started with Tuna Tartare that was a patty created with chunks of tuna, crisp and crunchy cucumber, cilantro and scallions. This was refreshing, a little spicy and delicious. Next we had the Pear Salad- a green salad with sliced pears and goat cheese and added marinated grilled shrimp- perhaps the most flavorful shrimp I've ever had. Finally we finished with the Icelandic Cod sitting on a bed of risotto. The salad and cod were both nicely split for us which added to our dining experience. This is a restaurant in which the creative mix of ingredients taste delicious. The service, food and ambiance resulted in a special experience. A return is guaranteed! read more
