I love this place! 525 has it all. The food is great the service is really good and very friendly and the owners couldn't be any nicer or more attentive. 525 also has a great vibe whether you're going for date night or a meal out with friends or just having dinner at the bar solo. They have cool historic photos of the neighborhood and comfortable seating. Another bonus is that Magnolia is a beautiful spot for an after dinner walk along the water or a stop at Magnolia Beach. My husband and I shared the steak tip dinner, and it was very good, but the service was very slow. Our bartender was solo, and it was a full house, so I totally get it. She was very sweet. The prices are not inexpensive. Our meal was $30 for four pieces of steak, mashed potatoes, and salad, but a glass of their house red was $13, not $7 like it is advertised on the website. Melissa apologized and said, "The website hasn't been updated since COVID". Well, that's not cool. Honestly, this quaint dive bar in Magnolia with no water view should still have $7 glasses of wine, 'cause the entrees are high. I am not sure I will be back. read more

We enjoyed the dinner. The ambiance was really nice. It's a tavern set in a quiet neighborhood. Tables and booth dining with a good sized bar. TVs above the bar visible from most tables. Service was ok. Drink refills took a long time (not sure if it was our server or the bar). The food was great. I started with a cup of clam chowder that was thick and creamy. For dinner, I had the prime rib and my wife had the carbonara. Both of us enjoyed it. It is definitely off the beaten track, but worth the ride. I grew up here, moved away and come back often. As such, I always get the chowder no matter the restaurant. So I can humbly say I've had ALLOT of chowder in my life. Nothing compares to 525's chowder. You taste the ocean, it hasn't been sanitized out the clams. When you taste, you think - I can't ever order chowder again, anywhere else. My decades long search for the best chowder has ended. (Note: it runs on the thicker side, I know that's not everyone's jam). BTW: great service, mellow vibe, employees are very kind and friendly. We had family from Maine and China join us for dinner at Magnolia 525 on Friday evening. Despite having a lot of food over Christmas, we loved everything we ate at 525!! Best restaurant on cape Ann and the North Shore. From the pizza sauce that the owner's Italian father cooks and delivers fresh daily. To the fish and chips and prime rib Thursday and Friday !!! 525 is phenomenal!!! The drinks are strong!!! The waitstaff. Is responsive and the owners are always checking in on every table Full bar excellent desserts I can't explain how much we love it! We have brought our friends there and when we talk to our friends about the 52 5 they always tell us that now they go there with their friends. Their menu is eclectic, lots of various options (seafood, burgers, chicken, buffalo nachos). Great covered outdoor seating available. We started with the buffalo chicken dip, which was delicious, not too spicy. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich, which I felt was a little pricey at $20, but was quite tasty. I ordered the swordfish picata special, which was a decent size portion, but too lemony (that was the only flavor I could taste, and a lot of it); that may be personal preference, i just like a milder lemon/butter flavor vs. sucking on a lemon directly. We didn't have room for desert, but they had several options that sounded very good. Service was good. Luckily we got there just before the dinner rush, as they started filling up halfway through our meal. read more

We were able to get a reservation for last night NYE which is also our Anniversary. Upon arrival we were wished a Happy Anniversary by one of the owners (Tamie) which was such an amazing detail in customer service that most places lack. The atmosphere was very inviting and everyone's spirits were ready to ring in the New Year. A great vibe. Our waiter was very attentive and always had an "eye" on our table, so a quick head nod and he was right at our side. My husband and I both ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer and it was delicious. Drinks were very good and no long wait for a refill. We both ordered the filet mignon off the special menu. When it arrived both dishes were picture perfect. The filet was cooked to perfection, a slight crisp to the outside and tender warm pink center. I dare say I have never had a better cooked filet! The side of asparagus and mashed potatoes were a wonderful accompaniment. We left full, happy and will return again, which we did (lol) for brunch! The end result - 10 out of 10! The people, from the hostess to the waitstaff to the owners, are amazing- they are so kind and accommodating! The Filet Mignon, the Clam Chowder, and Baked Haddock were the best of the best. It's a smaller cozy atmosphere. Dimmer lighting than a typical restaurant. The service was ok, it could have been better. The drinks were decent. I thought this place would be really good just from looking at the menu online. But I was utterly disappointed in my dish. I got the Haddock Francese. Everything was cooked to par but it was lacking a lot of seasoning and flavor in both the white wine sauce as well as the haddock. And it was a bit chilly in there. read more

Food was good, service was AWFUL. We were placed in a corner and forgotten about. Had 3 different waitresses. Got here and waited 15 minutes for someone to come over and take our drink order then waited another 20/25 minutes for a different waitress to come over and ask if someone had waited on us yet. Got our drinks after 45 minutes and put in a food order and waited another 40 minutes to get 2 burgers. My side of BBQ sauce for my burger came out 15 minutes before the food itself! I've been here a few times in the past and I've never been so disappointed by a waitstaff. read more

The 525 tavern has good food and it is consistent. And the service people are friendly. But don't dare linger over a meal or coffee or a drink. You are on the clock. We have had a tab delivered while still eating an entree (no mention of dessert) and talking over a drink at the bar. The pressure to turn tables over quickly is worthy of Boston, not an out-of-the-way neighborhood venue in Gloucester. And it happens often enough to indicate strict admin policy. I realize the restaurant business is tough, but the hard nosed big city approach may not be effective. It is a big turnoff for locals on whom the 525 must depend in the bleak season. read more

Went here for the first time about a month ago and I can't believe I had never been here before. Just a fantastic place on every level. Hostess said "just clearing a table for you" 15 minutes in. Took another 15 minutes and me inquiring to even get seated. Once seated, waited 30 minutes but no one even spoke to us.
