First thing I saw was a lady took the spent coffee brew basket, stuck it inside the trash barrel and banged it side to side to empty it. Then directly put a new filter in and brewed a new pot. Worst thing was that the waitstaff use the glasses to get ice directly from the ice bin. Not a scoop. We were there just over an hour at the bar. We saw it happen at least a dozen times. Beer was flat. Got a water that was brown from the coke that was poured immediately beforehand. Lots of empty glasses while staff leaned or were on phones. Heard the kitchen dinging the bell that food was ready and they were ignored for almost 5 minutes. Food no longer optimal. We didn't eat so no idea about food. Didn't look great going by. Bartender coughed into glasses. And directly into hands then immediately made drinks. Great location. Staff is checked out. Made me sad. read more

7:30pm on a Friday. Plenty of parking and seating. We sat at the bar which is very nice. It's horseshoe shape so there's plenty of chairs. A booth section that's the length of the place and well as tables. There's a divider that separates the tables from the bar. Everything was spotless, including the restrooms. The bartender Brett was personable and made great cocktails. The food was fabulous. Three of us shared the large artichoke heart appetizer. Brett offered warm rolls to finish up the sauce....creamy and lemony. The 3 of us all got variations of burgers. All cooked and prepared perfectly. Ordered shrimp Franscoie, which should be egg battered and sautéed. Received 4 small scampi instead for $17. My salmon was overcooked and without seasoning, the accompanying rice pilaf was not as good as the boxed variety and the butternut squash was reminiscent of pie filling. I would rather have someone stick a gun in my face and rob me (no pretense there), than be charged for such low quality food. That being said our server was fine. A person who I assumed was a manager was tucking it up with several tables but did not ask about our dinner. Lesson learned, will not return. I was expecting a pub, I am blown away by their menu! My daughter and I were in Beverly for a few days. I was told to check out Garden City Pub. The building is tucked behind a strip mall. It's an interesting, low slung building with the stone faced exterior. We were greeted by a pleasant Maitre'd. The menu was much more than I expected. The food was nothing short of amazing. Our server was attentive, however there was one glitch. We ordered a cup of soup. Without checking with us, he brought two large bowls! At $14, it was a meal in itself. They don't serve cups of soup. The Artichoke Francoise! I think it should have been named Artichoke Francese, but nonetheless it was lemony and had a lovely light egg batter. The Eggplant Rollatini is the best over ever had! I have never seen or tasted anything as good. The prices are in line with what I expected. It's not a noisy sports pub, by any means. read more

I don't get it. It looks like a hidden-gem type of local's favorite. But my first time was quite a miss. My family ordered the meat lasagna and scallop risotto. Both were very salty for some reason that we almost have to keep drinking water and I ate my risotto with bread. The server took the order and it took a little bit more than 30 minutes for him to come back with the food. During the whole wait there was zero communication. Actually we saw the server once in the small dining area during the 30 minute wait. There wasn't even a chance to ask questions not to mention him checking in on us. Water tastes and smells bleach. When I got my tab, I was charged for two drinks. When she said what she said how she said it, it implied to me that the second drink was complimentary because the first one was full of too much ice. I don't get it. Why are the ratings so high? Tonight the place was packed and thus, it felt like 90 degrees in there. We'd head outside for fresh air regularly. The wings were fine, but not great. First, let me say that I'm from a time when it was impossible to get a seat in this place (bar or booth) because the atmosphere, value, and quality of food/drink was fair. They closed for Covid (understandable) and they are now opened once again. Fast forward to tonight. First, the quality of service was great and, the price of the food, although higher than before, still fair but needs improvement. So, the question would be; why when I'm leaving at 5:30 on a Thursday night, we still appear to be one of only three parties in the place? Before, I couldn't get a parking spot at 5:30. Then the bill comes. To keep it short; $14 for a Tanquary & Tonic, had two of them. Now I have a $28 tab for two drinks (not including my wife's drink) on a $31 food bill. Now I understand why the locals aren't there anymore. I would think this needs to be reviewed. Did the price of alcohol go up that much? Or, is someone taking advantage of the inflation situation? Please let me know if I'm wrong with my feedback because presently, I'm probably not returning based on my observation. And, it's too bad. Love this lil' gem of a place! I've heard that it's owned by the same people as Depot Diner so that made me hafta check it out. Food is sooooo delicious. I've gone 4 or 5 times now and I think I've tried a different meal each time and each were great. For some reason I decided to give them a chance at serving me mussels and they did not disappoint. Usually any restaurant fails to give a decent amount of mussels but GCP gave the proper big ol' stack. Be sure to check the specials, besides the chilli they all seem to rotate out often (weekly?) so there's new stuff that always sound worth checkin out. Only bummer thing I can think of about this place is how small it is. They cram as many tables as they can in there so if you're not at a booth, anyone walking by will probably be brushing into you a lil. It also seems to be pretty packed in there, but everytime we've gone a table seems to open up withing 5 minutes. What a great little hole in the wall in beverly, behind other buildings as well. Every time my wife and I go she seems to gravitate towards the fetuccini carbonara, not that i complain. Never had a bad meal prices are reasonable and huge portions! My husband and I went here for the first time yesterday. Service was very nice, though a little forgetful but that added to the charm because it was offset by her humor. Portions were HUGE, some of the prices seemed high (mainly the seafood) but I'm sure the portions made up for it. I had the Artichoke Francoise which was delicious. The chicken broccoli ziti in a lemon-garlic sauce was also great but after a huge appetizer (which my husband wouldnt touch due to being a non-veggie eater) it looked like I hadn't touched it and I ate what I thought was a lot! My husband had the shrimp cocktail, 4 colossal shrimp for 12.00, not bad. He then had the bbq steak tips with steak fries and was very pleased. This small restaurant is always packed. The food and service is just OK. There's a pasta entree I really like, but I have had sandwiches and appetizers here and there just wasn't any flavor. Servers aren't overly friendly, neither is the hostess. Many people I know love the burgers here, but I can't comment on that because I don't eat burgers. Been there twice, once with friends and last night with my wife on our way home. Last night we sat at the bar, the restaurant was fairly busy. Bartenders were busy but friendly. Great beer selection, order the Maine Lunch, my wife got the pumpkin martini which she said was delicious. I decided to order comfort food and got chicken parm, the missus ordered chicken piccata. The meals were delicious and portions large. I ate all of mine but my wife had plenty to take home. Prices are very reasonable. Both visits have been pleasant with great food and good service. Definitely worth future visits. Just my two cents, but all those folks who complain about poor wait service, it hasn't been my experience at this restaurant but as a customer you have every right to make your issues known to your server or management. I've eaten here twice now and haven't been impressed. The food is standard, old-fashioned North Shore fare, vintage 1975, seemingly prepared by a home cook rather than a professional chef. Nothing special about it. In fact, the food was pretty flavorless. I suspect what people like is the familiarity. Pretty unpleasant atmosphere: bad design, bad lightiing, bad acoustics, loud customers, several toddlers and babies, four televison monitors all playing sports, etc. The waiters and waitesses, however, were friendly and funny. Not for Pre-Theatre. We went there before the show. We were late for the show because we waited over a half an hour to be served. When we were, the fish was overcooked, we had to ask for bread, the drinks were slow at arriving (and then they tasted as if there was no liquor in them.) Went for dinner with my husband- have been a few times per year. Food has always been great- huge portions- have eaten an appetizer and brought dinner home because I was full! The nachos and eggplant rolatini are my favorites. Drinks are excellent, decent wine list. The service has been phenomenal- waitresses always friendly and know the menu! One of my good friends used to be a waiter here, so I have to say the service was great ;-). I was also surprised by some of the more unique entrees they had here; the coconut crusted chicken tenders I had were delicious! What I don't like however, is the small size; the bar takes up 80% of the room, and you've got to walk sideways if you need to move from your table. I have heard good things about this restaurant but I have to say I wasn't impressed; My wife and I only ended up here because Nick's was closed for renovations. The service was slow, the food was over seasoned and the theme of the embiance just seemed confused...is it a pub or an itallian restaurant. My wife and I also noticed that with the design of the place, voices of other patrons seemed to carry across the whole restaurant, by the end of the night we knew everything about this guy's (clear across the bar mind you) recent trip to Florida, and the people's behind us problems at home with their child. This is my usual spot if I'm in town for the weekend to visit my folks. Pasta dishes are always a no fault option with very generous portions, enough to share with another person.
