I visited the Berry Tavern last night. I agree with the previous ratings. It was ok. I wouldn't go out of my way for the food or service, but it was fine. As soon as we sat down we noticed the water glasses were dirty. We told the waitress. She said it was just the etching. I'm not sure she knows what etching means. A dirty glass is a dirty glass. It is what it is. Which, ultimately defined this place for me, it is what it is. It's a tavern with decent food. read more

In an effort to diversify the places I take dad on Friday, we tried The Berry Tavern tonight. The staff and owners were super welcoming and friendly and the service was great. Started with the meatballs which were excellent and a highlight of the meal. I had the carbonara. I am a bit of a carbonara expert a while this was not the best I have ever had, it certainly cracked the top 5. Dad had the Tavern Scallops and he said it was very good. Parking is a nightmare but that is not their fault. Overall very good and we will add it to our rotation. read more

We came for the first time tonight and we will be back! It was a packed Friday so, the bar was packed. Definitely a go to date spot or a friend's catch-up. We checked out the bar seen first but, there were no spots (classic!). The hostess, Abby, saw that there was an opening between reservations and got us a table stat. She was both accommodating and friendly. My sister got the chicken and vegetable soup, my mom got the shrimp grand mariner and I got the Tirimasu. They went for the savory and I went for the sweet. We came here for a little snack after the movies so, it was a weird mix of food lol the chicken and vegetable soup was a food for the soul. The shrimp grand mariner was the perfect combination of savory and sweet. And, then tiramisu was the biggest I've ever seen. It was moist (yea, I used it), decedent and light. Debbie was our server and was welcoming and so funny. I will definitely be back to try a proper full meal - next time I have room! read more

I was in the area to help my cousin with something and this place was a short walk from where I parked. I love some good Italian food and ordered some pasta, which tasted fantastic. The portion was generous and I took some home for later. The waitress was kind and attentive, and our order came out promptly. I liked it, to my surprise, since I didn't expect to like it for no good reason, but somebody then recommended it. We went for lunch - great vibe, just before xmas so a couple of santas with drinks in hand, one of whom greeted me to my surprise with a big hug as i didn't realize it was a friend of mine, so that was fun. Great cosmo, which I normally don't drink for lunch but I'd been advised they make great martinis - this was exceptional as most don't get my instructions right. Great caesar salad, which is my measuring stick for lunch restaurants, and I'm a tough critic. My husband less impressed with his meatball sandwich, but the fries were very good. We had a nice time at the Berry Tavern (the first time in downtown Danvers for all four of us) even tho my meal wasn't quite up to par. Had an early res and I'm pretty sure our table went to someone else but it didn't take too long to get seated. Wish we could have been in the more homey dark tavern area but not a big deal. We had very nice service and I was very happy to see the little side car of extra drink come with our martinis. One person had tasty grilled scallops with a proper seat and risotto (~$28), one had a seafood pasta special at about $34 and one had chicken with bacon asparagus etc. I went for the well priced filet mignon w mashed and asparagus ($28?). Thankfully the side of jus/sauce was delicious cuz the meat was pretty darn tough and dipping it was still. We skipped dessert but fairly successful night out. read more

Had a nice and early dinner at Berry Tavern on Saturday. Went in at 4:45ish and was seated on the bar side (which we asked for). The host was sweet and friendly. We were seated, ordered some Ciders and a water. I ordered the chicken broccoli penne with garlic oil and my friend ordered the gnocchi on special. While we waited we munched on the bread. The bread part was good but the crust/ edge of the bread was not a great taste, I just ripped the crust off. My dinner was good, nice flavor, broccoli was cooked perfectly and good amounts of chicken. My friends looked good but it was very thick sauce and a small portion. Our server was attentive, not the most friendly but she was there when we needed her! Would come back again, good menu options. read more

I came here for Easter. Spent a lot of money. I am a stroke survivor with very limited ability on my right side. I discreetly ask the waitress to have my filet mignon cut in the back kitchen before being brought to me. She said "really" and I said yes, and then I held up my limp right hand told her I could not cut it. When the food came out, my file was not cut and she said she didn't want it to dry out ,so she just figured someone at my table would cut it for me. I explain to her that if I wanted people to know my disability or cut up my food for me I would've asked them. Then everybody at my table and in the restaurant started staring at me. When I said you just embarrassed me she's snipped, I was only thinking of you and walked away. No one ever came over including Management to apologize. This has been the worst experience I've had since I had my stroke eight years ago. The waitress does not know better than me about what's best for my disability. I am very disappointed. We went for dinner and we were seated immediately as many tables were empty on Sunday evening. The waitress was a bit standoffish when questions about some of the menu items were asked. She was uninterested in helping us and uneducated about the food. She could not tell us what was made fresh as opposed to what was frozen. She indicated there was only 1 type of ravioli on the menu when, in fact, there are 2 types. The whole experience did not go well and will not be returning. The food itself was mediocre. read more

Out running errands, we needed a bit to eat to keep the energy going. We stopped at this tavern as it was less than a block from the butchery we needed to run to. Sat at the bar, Emma, the bartender, was great and swift with getting us water and a drink order going. Hubs had the Sam Summer; the lemon wedge was a nice twist, he said. I got the berry Cosmo, which is strong but really tasty. It came with a lil carafe to top off my drink when ready. For an app, we shared the Philly steak and cheese egg rolls. hubby said it took him back to childhood. They were very tasty, not greasy. I did need to add a hit of salt, though. Otherwise, def a repeat order next time. Since it was lunchtime, we decided to split a pasta dish. We opted for the scallop and shrimp dish; I can't remember the sauce name, and it's not on the online menu lol... But it was a light wine and garlic sauce that perfectly coated the pasta. The seafood was cooked to perfection and the asparagus in the dish was my favorite of the whole dish, blanched to perfection! We loved the vibe here. We will be back! read more

My sister was in from out of town and wanted to have a get together with family and friends. After narrowing down the potential choices, we decided to give The Berry Tavern a shot. There were 8 of us so I can't go into a ton of detail. We waited a short while outside while they prepared the table. The host and staff were very friendly. I and a couple of the party noticed that this could be a function hall for weddings the way it was set up. Just an odd observation. Four of the party ordered 2 pizzas to share. One was Victoria but I don't know the other. They all seemed happy and satisfied with the selection. Another had the Tavern Scallops and could only finish half. I can't remember what the other had. I went for the BBQ burger. The burger was well cooked and tasty. I was a little let down by the BBQ sauce. It looked like it was store bought and the flavor wasn't anything memorable. The only other oddity was that the person serving us supposedly left yet I could have sworn I saw her as we walked out the door later. Must have been a shift of some sort. The person taking her place seemed to disappear after he handed us the check and it took quite a while to settle up the bill. Not sure what happened. My favorite place in town! Not only great food but what a selection to pick from! Anything from a specialty pizza, Chicken Benevento, to a Fig or Caesar Salad, they are all amazing at Berry!! Service is impeccable! Fantastic waitresses!! Tammy and Kelly are extremely attentive. My favorite room is the main dining room with the tin ceiling. Love the ambiance!! At times, it's so busy, we sit in the other room which is much more quiet and has a baby grand piano. The food is amazing overall. Highly recommend!!!!! read more

I've had two great experiences here now, including tonight (fresh on my mind). This is most definitely a local pub for Danvers people...so they don't need this review. For me, the food is an everything. I can work through and around "staff". That being said, the Berry is fully staffed and there are plenty of friendly helpful staff members! The Tavern is in a downtown suburb, but there is plenty of free parking all around. Lot across the street. My understanding is they have expanded in recent years and now have two full bars and two large dining rooms, as well as a large outside dining area. I arrived around 5 on a Thursday and the place was already filling up and becoming lively. There were people of all ages from very small children, to couples, to elderly, to locals at the bar. By 6 o'clock when me and my friend ordered food from the bar, every table was filled and some were large round tables for 8 or more people. Now to the food. First time there I got two things off the appetizer menu. French onion soup and lamp lollipops. The lamb was perfect and came with a mint jelly sauce if you like that. (I don't). The French onion soup was ok. Filling. But not the best I've ever had. They could work on that. One friend got an eggplant parm appetizer and loved it. (It's his favorite dish). Next time will get the dinner version...other friends are not hard to please (if you know what I mean) and they loved the steak tips. Tonight, I ordered off the specials menu. It was one of the more expensive dishes, but well worth it! Shrimp and Scallop Rotini in a red vodka sauce. Perfect. They obviously have chefs back there working their craft, not just cooks. This might have been one of the best Italian dishes I've ever had (my mouth is watering right now while I write this review). And I have Italian heritage. Plenty of large scallops and shrimp perfectly textured, perfectly cooked. Excellent Al dente rotini. Sauce was amazing with just a small amount of spice, enough to feel a slight sweat. With aded texture with onions maybe capers and other spices. I felt like I was eating some clams and mussels in there but there wasn't. That might make the dish more expensive. But would be incredible. All about the food. 5 plus stars for the food.! I like beer and wine. Plenty of options there. Some of my friends like mixed fancy cocktails and they loved them. Plenty were being made and the bartenders seemed plenty experienced. Well if you're in the area, you've got an amazing local tavern with "chef" quality food to try. Have Fun!! read more
