I had to think about this review because I am a regular customer who is at The Berry pretty frequently. I love the food, the owners and the service there. My one complaint is that I have had one server the last 2 times I went there and she really brings down the whole atmosphere of the place. I believe her name is Alex. She has zero personality and when I asked her about something that was wrong she accused me of ordering incorrectly. She is very direct and not personable at all. She doesn't make you feel welcome. If I get her as a server again when I go back I will leave. I really wish the owners would see this review and do something about her. The food is good, but the service is lackluster. We had a subpar experience a few months ago and decided to give it another shot. This time was worse. While there are gluten free options, I was served gluten during both visits. The first time was the wrong pasta. The kitchen made me a new meal. The second attempt was fine, but my table ate while I waited and then I ate alone when my food did come. This time we ordered a gluten free pizza as an app. We received a regular pizza. We were told that we would be comped for the mistake and a gluten pizza was on the way. Neither statement was true. An hour after we ordered, after we had completed our meal, we were told the kitchen was backed up and asked if we still wanted the gluten free pizza. We declined because we just wanted to leave at the point, but the regular pizza was still on the bill. We paid it - it's fine. As a member of the gluten-free/celiac community, I would caution others to be extra careful here. We really wanted to like this restaurant, but the very slow service (a hour before we received any food) coupled with the allergy mistakes make it tough to consider again. read more

Scallops tasted gross, too salty. Broccoli was too garlicy. Salad came out late and meal came before salad was finished. Very noisy. Probably less noisy on the other side instead of bar side. Berry Tavern is consistently good. They can get busy quickly on weekends, but the restaurant is a good size, so the wait usually isn't too long. They also offer outdoor seating, which is a nice option when the weather is nice. If you're planning to go during peak dinner hours, I definitely recommend making a reservation. The service can be a bit inconsistent, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, it's a good spot that I would recommend. read more

In an effort to diversify the places I take dad on Friday, we tried The Berry Tavern tonight. The staff and owners were super welcoming and friendly and the service was great. Started with the meatballs which were excellent and a highlight of the meal. I had the carbonara. I am a bit of a carbonara expert a while this was not the best I have ever had, it certainly cracked the top 5. Dad had the Tavern Scallops and he said it was very good. Parking is a nightmare but that is not their fault. Overall very good and we will add it to our rotation. read more

I visited the Berry Tavern last night. I agree with the previous ratings. It was ok. I wouldn't go out of my way for the food or service, but it was fine. As soon as we sat down we noticed the water glasses were dirty. We told the waitress. She said it was just the etching. I'm not sure she knows what etching means. A dirty glass is a dirty glass. It is what it is. Which, ultimately defined this place for me, it is what it is. It's a tavern with decent food. read more

It is OK, it is family friendly and accordingly raucous, loud, hectic. Too many big parties. Communication is difficult. Friendly owners and staff. The "bread" they put on the table is a joke. Please serve some baguette and olive oil to patrons waiting for the food. read more

We came for the first time tonight and we will be back! It was a packed Friday so, the bar was packed. Definitely a go to date spot or a friend's catch-up. We checked out the bar seen first but, there were no spots (classic!). The hostess, Abby, saw that there was an opening between reservations and got us a table stat. She was both accommodating and friendly. My sister got the chicken and vegetable soup, my mom got the shrimp grand mariner and I got the Tirimasu. They went for the savory and I went for the sweet. We came here for a little snack after the movies so, it was a weird mix of food lol the chicken and vegetable soup was a food for the soul. The shrimp grand mariner was the perfect combination of savory and sweet. And, then tiramisu was the biggest I've ever seen. It was moist (yea, I used it), decedent and light. Debbie was our server and was welcoming and so funny. I will definitely be back to try a proper full meal - next time I have room! read more

I was in the area to help my cousin with something and this place was a short walk from where I parked. I love some good Italian food and ordered some pasta, which tasted fantastic. I liked it, to my surprise, since I didn't expect to like it for no good reason, but somebody then recommended it. We went for lunch - great vibe, just before xmas so a couple of santas with drinks in hand, one of whom greeted me to my surprise with a big hug as i didn't realize it was a friend of mine, so that was fun. Great cosmo, which I normally don't drink for lunch but I'd been advised they make great martinis - this was exceptional as most don't get my instructions right. Great caesar salad, which is my measuring stick for lunch restaurants, and I'm a tough critic. My husband less impressed with his meatball sandwich, but the fries were very good. We had a nice time at the Berry Tavern (the first time in downtown Danvers for all four of us) even tho my meal wasn't quite up to par. Had an early res and I'm pretty sure our table went to someone else but it didn't take too long to get seated. Wish we could have been in the more homey dark tavern area but not a big deal. We had very nice service and I was very happy to see the little side car of extra drink come with our martinis. One person had tasty grilled scallops with a proper seat and risotto (~$28), one had a seafood pasta special at about $34 and one had chicken with bacon asparagus etc. I went for the well priced filet mignon w mashed and asparagus ($28?). Thankfully the side of jus/sauce was delicious cuz the meat was pretty darn tough and dipping it was still. We skipped dessert but fairly successful night out. read more

Had a nice and early dinner at Berry Tavern on Saturday. Went in at 4:45ish and was seated on the bar side (which we asked for). The host was sweet and friendly. We were seated, ordered some Ciders and a water. I ordered the chicken broccoli penne with garlic oil and my friend ordered the gnocchi on special. While we waited we munched on the bread. The bread part was good but the crust/ edge of the bread was not a great taste, I just ripped the crust off. My dinner was good, nice flavor, broccoli was cooked perfectly and good amounts of chicken. My friends looked good but it was very thick sauce and a small portion. Our server was attentive, not the most friendly but she was there when we needed her! Would come back again, good menu options. read more

We went for dinner and we were seated immediately as many tables were empty on Sunday evening. The waitress was a bit standoffish when questions about some of the menu items were asked. She was uninterested in helping us and uneducated about the food. She could not tell us what was made fresh as opposed to what was frozen. She indicated there was only 1 type of ravioli on the menu when, in fact, there are 2 types. The whole experience did not go well and will not be returning. The food itself was mediocre. read more

Out running errands, we needed a bit to eat to keep the energy going. We stopped at this tavern as it was less than a block from the butchery we needed to run to. Sat at the bar, Emma, the bartender, was great and swift with getting us water and a drink order going. Hubs had the Sam Summer; the lemon wedge was a nice twist, he said. I got the berry Cosmo, which is strong but really tasty. It came with a lil carafe to top off my drink when ready. For an app, we shared the Philly steak and cheese egg rolls. hubby said it took him back to childhood. They were very tasty, not greasy. I did need to add a hit of salt, though. Otherwise, def a repeat order next time. Since it was lunchtime, we decided to split a pasta dish. We opted for the scallop and shrimp dish; I can't remember the sauce name, and it's not on the online menu lol... But it was a light wine and garlic sauce that perfectly coated the pasta. The seafood was cooked to perfection and the asparagus in the dish was my favorite of the whole dish, blanched to perfection! We loved the vibe here. We will be back! read more

All meals were great. Steak tips were delicious and tiramisu was outstanding !! Chicken parm was enormous. Would definitely go again!!

We started with the calamari, which was great. I got the grilled fig salad. It was fine. It had all things I like but for some reason it didn't really come together for me. My husband got the blackened swordfish over spinach risotto which was very good. Our server was fantastic! Very attentive with good recommendations. We sat in the bar. I came here for Easter. Spent a lot of money. I am a stroke survivor with very limited ability on my right side. I discreetly ask the waitress to have my filet mignon cut in the back kitchen before being brought to me. She said "really" and I said yes, and then I held up my limp right hand told her I could not cut it. When the food came out, my file was not cut and she said she didn't want it to dry out ,so she just figured someone at my table would cut it for me. I explain to her that if I wanted people to know my disability or cut up my food for me I would've asked them. Then everybody at my table and in the restaurant started staring at me. When I said you just embarrassed me she's snipped, I was only thinking of you and walked away. No one ever came over including Management to apologize. This has been the worst experience I've had since I had my stroke eight years ago. The waitress does not know better than me about what's best for my disability. I am very disappointed. Had an amazing evening last night. I went to The Berry Tavern with my girl friend and her daughter. I had the blackened sword fish with linguini cooked to perfection. My girl had a shrimp pasta dish and her daughter had the steak tips. Everything was great especially our waitress Gigi it was her 1st night ad a waitress she told us.
