Love the food at Spitfire, Marblehead. I love their great put-together Tacos, of all types. Toppings are tasty and fresh. This afternoon I got their Smash Burger which I'd had my eye on. One star because the restaurant was clean and the staff friendly. The food? I would rename the establishment "Tacos for Townies". The tacos in no way resembled anything I ate when living in Texas, or business trips to AZ, CA, or south of the boarder. But tonight I waited 45 min for my to-go order, and when I finally received it a few minutes before close, it was stone cold and I was given no bag to carry it in. I have no idea how long it was sitting on the back counter, apparently forgotten even though I purposely sat in direct line of sight of the cashier so that he would see me waiting. I keep trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt, and every time I come it's so inconsistent it makes me not want to come back. You either get a good meal or a horrible meal. Just got the worst stone cold tacos. Last time I came I had a staple in my taco that I partially ate. They forgot the sweet potato in the Mr. Bean. Just truly inconsistent. Wow!!! we thought we were stopping by for a snack lunch and FYI, their dishes are gigantic. And they are excellent. We tried their taco deal and nachos with some Carnitas on them. I placed an order for delivery on a rainy Saturday night and as it was my first order, I went basic and got the Taco meal deal - 3 Beef tacos. The order went to Marblehead although the website said Salem, I saw the location was Marblehead on the status map. I'm guessing that Salem had closed for the evening. The order arrived early and it was delicious! Best tacos I've ever had! The beef was seasoned perfectly and the hard outer shell was wrapped in a crunchy sleeve of thicker soft shell that was wonderful. It prevented a crispy shell break and held the contents together. These are the most generously filled, delicious tacos we have ever eaten. The choices are not the boring norm and hit 'the spot'. Prices are extremely inexpensive and worth it. We ordered a bunch of different items that weren't pictured due to us devouring everything on site. The chips, salsa, guacamole, elote, kids chicken tenders and fries - all amazing and freshly made in house. We loved everything so much that we ordered a second round of tacos! Everyone who works there are polite, welcoming and gave us attentive service. I hope this place turns 'viral' and has a line out the door, soon enough. Spitfire makes the best tacos I've ever had, handsdown. Whenever friends come to town we bring them and it's always a hit. The flavors are balanced and the combos inventive. Love em. I recently got married and when I learned about Spitfire's blossoming catering company it was a no brainer. HUGE success, people wouldn't stop raving, especially about the shredded pork taco. They also offer vegan and vegetarian taco options, which even our meat eaters enjoyed. For appetizers, they prepared elote and guacamole and queso with chips. My only regret is being so busy entertaining guests that I didn't have enough time to sample everything. Ryan and Kathleen were wonderful: prompt, efficient and very friendly. They're very flexible and accommodating. I can't recommend them enough! read more

Really wanted to like this place, but the food was awful. This was the second time trying Spitfire- last time was in Salem. We got the rice/beans/chicken plate and three tacos. The plate had clumped rice, browning avocado, and dry chicken. The tacos didn't taste fresh at all. One taco shell was so burnt, I couldn't eat it. I have no idea why this place has such good reviews. Maybe we went on a bad day for them, but we won't be back. Yuck. read more

Stopped by on a whim and super glad we did. We ordered the Nellie Bellie, Pork, Vampiro and Vegetarian. Also ordered an elote, chips and guacamole. Was not expecting such a large portion for each taco. However was was most surprising was the amount of flavor in each taco. The pickled onions on the Nellie Bellie reminded me of what you would find in yuca. Each taco tasted as if the tortilla was cooked over an open flame. You really can't go wrong here, the food is just as delicious and high-quality as the Salem location! I had the vampiro taco and my wife had the vegan tacos, absolutely delicious. We rounded it out with chips and guac, rice and beans, and some street corn. My eight-year-old daughter had a quesadilla which she loved- she ate the whole thing! I'm really not sure about the negative reviews, but I would take them with a grain of salt and go try this place. Really easy website for ordering. Ordered beef taco, fish/haddock taco, and beans and rice. Set the pickup time for 7pm and at 6:45 received a text that my order was ready. Drove over and large line of people ordering and waiting. I walked around them, gave a staff member my name, and out it came from a warming cabinet. Warm and delicious when I got home. Sadly, the quality of the Marblehead Spitfire tacos has really gone downhill. I've ordered there multiple times in the past with good results. This time was the exact opposite. The sweet potato in my taco wasn't cooked all the way and most of the fillings were cold. Also, the taco fillings were downright scrawny. I hate leaving bad reviews but I really want this place to succeed and hope that they'll make some changes to get the quality up to what it used to be. read more

My wife and I went the other day and split 5 tacos, the nachos, and a small order of the house cut fries. Tacos ordered: Fish - very fishy, definitely wouldn't order again. 1/10 Chili Shrimp - very good, shrimp had a great flavor and were very snappy. 8/10 Nellie Bellie - great flavor and pork was cook perfectly. 8/10 Vampiro - huge portion size but lots of competing flavors. 5/10 Pork - huge portion size but lots of competing flavors. 5/10 Hand cut fries - fries didn't seem fresh and definitely tasted like they were cooked earlier on. Not crunchy, just kind of limp and somewhat warm. 2/10 Side note: the salsa verde is amazing. As the commercials for Franks Red Hot used to say "I'd put that sh*t on anything" Nachos: huge portion and the chips were definitely the star of the show. Not sure if they make/fry the chips in house but I'd go there simply to get the chips. Be sure to double check that you get sour cream. We ordered ours to go and by the time we got home, realized it went in the bag Side note: we added Carne Asada steak to the tacos. It's pricy but very well worth the added price. Side note: the queso was definitely lacking flavor. Ask them if you can sub additional salsa verde for the queso. Stopped in after watching youth football today. 3 adults and 2 kids. Had a mix of tacos,beef,chicken and fish and 2 burritos beef and fajita veggie. All food was fresh made and some of the best Mexican I have had on the north shore. And to make the experience even better the staff is professional,friendly and accommodating. Simply terrible. Burned (literally charred throughout) lard-drenched tortillas, which were cold and enveloped lukewarm tacos. The owners appear to be absentee and do not oversee operations and maintain quality control. Taco Bell is better! Plus -- no atmosphere, music, warmth. Love Spitfire's vegan tacos! Especially, love how they put a crunchy taco shell inside a soft, flour tortilla.

We got a variety of tacos options to try them out. The haddock, cauliflower, and pork belly tacos had good flavors. The shredded pork and shredded beef tacos were underwhelming, mushy and flooded with liquid. We got the kids quesadilla and the cheese was cold, only half melted still in shreds falling out of it. The kids chicken strips were good, but the fries were cold, soggy and seemed like two day old leftovers. The worst part is it was over $50 for what should be $20 from a dive bar happy hour menu, or a street cart or food truck on the side of the road. I was really hoping for something a lot better than previous resident Howling Wolf, especially in Marblehead that either has pizza or fried seafood or the one decent high-end place 5 Corners. So I was disappointed by a flavorless chicken burrito that was easily beat by Chipotle. It was poorly wrapped so the fillings weren't well distributed. And the only choice of beans, black, tasted like they were flavored with cinnamon. Tacos were creative with interesting options like vegetarian or shrimp. But the Landing has better fish tacos and they don't taste as fishy either. The best Mexican in the area is probably Anna's but you have to trek to Boston. I wish Spitfire brought the flava, but they're no better than cheaper chain fare. read more
