Western burger with fries and a side dish with sweet potato tots

Still tasty and delicious as we remembered ! Great food and great cocktails! Fried green tomatoes were fabulous.

If you know Suffolk then you're familiar with the Plaid Turnip. Mod is the Turnips spinoff in the building they used to inhabit. Still some of the same Turnip faves you know with a little more quirk. I came specifically while back visiting Suffolk for the Fried Green Tomatoes and was not disappointed. Lightly breaded, tender, served w feta and balsamic. Exactly like momma made. We also had the pork belly biscuit platter and there was enough food for 3-4 people. I'm not mad about the leftovers. The pork was tender, flavorful, and exactly as it should be. Those big fluffy buttery biscuits reminded me to go for a run so I can eat the leftovers. We had ours with a side of waffle fries. Crispy, delicious, perfect diner fries. The sweet tea will make even the most northern of Yankees say y'all.

We are not in downtown Suffolk often with that being this morning I wanted to try somewhere new/different from the regular places we go. We ended up at The Mod Olive-formerly known as the Plaid Turnip. I loved the ambience and our seat was a half booth with two chairs big enough for 4 or maybe 5 and it was nice. Our server Tianna was very attentive and friendly. Our food was plentiful so if you go hungry. I got the chicken fried steak which I loved. This steak was a perfect combo of salty and peppery from the gravy. The menu is huge and I plan to go back and try some more

Everything was great for our dinner here. Friendly service, strong drinks, delicious food and fun throw back decor. Make this a place to try while visiting. We will definitely be back to try more dishes next time we are in town.

Mod Olive has quickly become our favorite spot to grab breakfast. We love that it's within walking distance and they never disappoint! My go to is the Benedict but I went with the chicken and waffles and it did not disappoint. Services is always super friendly and relatively quick and the portion sizes are fantastic. It's a retro vibe inside That is clean and quirky

A mimosa flight - about 8 fruit flavors to choose from

We've dined at Mod Olive about four times in the last five months so this is not a one-and-done review. Parking is convenient if you know how to access the lot (pull in to the driveway one building away to the north and drive around the old bank building .) The decor is like stepping back into the 50's. We're usually seated promptly but there is a comfortable waiting area if they are busy. They have two menus and change them out at 3 p.m. though many of the favorites are available all day. We've thoroughly enjoyed the generous serving of fish and chips, the humongous burgers (an 8 oz . mound of meat), the superb grilled chicken breast with gorgonzola cream sauce and sun dried tomatoes, and the Waldorf salad. They have a bespoke cocktail menu that changes monthly and a selection of craft beers on tap - you have to refer to their website to see the beer menu. We never have room for dessert and usually leave with enough food for another meal. While service is always friendly, it takes a little longer than most for the food to be delivered. (I'm told that the kitchen is on the small side.)

    Mushy not crispy Monte Cristo!

The people here are great. Very nice and pretty good service. I love the quiet restaurant. Its so hard to find a place like this! Do NOT ORDER THE MONTE CRISTO if you want it to be deep fried like the one Bennigans had!!!! This sandwich was mushy and someone forgot to add the raspberry jam. The powdered sugar should have been on the sandwich before the olives went on. Bow tie mac and cheese pretty blow average. People great, food C-minus. Prep or cook, I don't know where it failed. But it did.

I stumbled here after another place was unexpectedly closed and I'm happy it panned out that way. Coming in, immediately the staff was super nice and attentive when seated. I ordered the Lemon Lavender Spritz mock tail and it's delicious... highly recommend if you want something light, fun and tasty. While I wait for my food, i get to enjoy the brick with framed wood and metal art, along with various figurines and arty shingles hanging from the ceilings. It's noon and I can tell patrons are here from work because they're all talking about work in khakis and polos. Still a bunch of tables for families and people like me who don't want to sit at the bar. I ordered : *The Greek Wings - taste like what they are. Served with a lemon glaze and what tastes like a scratch tzatziki sauce and pickled onions. They're different and Fun to try but I'm not stuck on them. *Poutine Fries- a first for me but not the last. Glad I was finally able to give it a try. I do think it would be better with scratch gravy. *Pork Belly Biscuits- average- Made from scratch biscuits were good and not dry. Pork is cooked well, but I think it'd be better with something other than the pimento in my opinion. Still, The pimento itself The portions are excellent. The food isn't bad. The people staff are very polite.

I arrived in Suffolk to visit my daughter in law and she said that this was the spot for brunch and I would love it. She was correct, upon arriving the restaurant has a 70's, retro vibe with eclectic decor from that era. There's a full bar with seating, nostalgic movies from the 60's and 70's playing, and the cutest art work displayed. I opted for the veggie omelet with two eggs, with a side of blueberries, and a bagel with cream cheese. The omelette was tasteful, the bagel could have been more crisp and less butter, and the blueberries were not as fresh but, being that they aren't in season is why. Lastly, we had the champagne screw which consists of vodka, orange juice, and champagne. It was a bit strong but delicious, a different taste from my usual mimosa with oj and champagne. Our server was kind, and gracious.

    Epic Caesar salad! Absolutely Delicious

Was invited out here for a brief lunch with some friends. We've passed by this place a few times before but never stopped in. It looked smaller on the outside but is actually pretty big inside. I had a Caesar salad, and the lettuce was huge in a great way! It was delicious, nice and fresh! Some of the people in the group had soups and pot pies. They enjoyed that as well and said they come all the time. Then there's the cakes! Some got the chocolate cake and some of us the carrot cake. The pieces were HUGE and anddddd they were delicious! You ever get a huge slice, and you're all excited, then it tastes like cardboard or chalk? Well, that wasn't the case here. We're definitely going back to "make sure" they always taste that good! Lol I am looking forward to returning during my next VA visit for sure!!

I was very disappointed. First of all, the service was extremely poor. We were seated in a corner, and I think we were mostly out of mind. We waited several minutes once ready to order, drinks were not refilled, food prep was super slow (probably 30 mins), and again we waited several minutes for the check. As for the food, portions were very generous, and flavors were pretty good. However, the bread on the Mac Attack sandwich was excessive and really soggy - I couldn't eat it. The waffle fries were very good. Lastly, the place was generally dirty. There are eclectic decorations throughout, and not a one without a cob web or two on it. We were seated in a corner along a brick wall. There was a large spider in the corner and cob webs on the brick. Oh, and the floor had bits of food that looked like they had been there for a week.

A restaurant runs out of food - during restaurant week. Featured items on a menu that is still circulating, but you don't have most of the items. This was very disheartening. My mother and I visited this restaurant last Friday with hopes of trying items from the restaurant week menu. We were presented with the full menu... we were ready to order within minutes, but was told our choices were no longer available. Bummer! Items from the starter section - out Items from the entrees - out Sheesh - not sure why there is not an alternative, but because we were sad, we decided to dine elsewhere. We walked in - and stood at the counter for over a minute - no greeting - no acknowledgement. A guest from the bar happened to finish, so two seats next to each other became available, so we opted to sit at the bar with hopes of getting greeting sooner than later. Another 30 seconds went by and the bartender, Davena, I believe - she waited on us. She was the bearer of bad news of the items the restaurant ran out of. The excuse was because of the rush. Nevertheless. We may return, but this was a big disappointment. Parking - good luck with that. We found parking on the street, but not sure if there is a special parking lot nearby. This place is small and I doubt reservations are accepted. Go at your own risk. Take care and enjoy life :)

Came to get dinner. It was pretty busy but we were seated quickly. Our server was very pleasant but seemed pretty overwhelmed. The decor is cute and is reminiscent of the 70's. The food was awesome with huge servings. The sweet potato tots were awesome. The three star review is due to the roach that crawled on the wall.

This was one of those experiences that far exceeded every expectation, in every way. Absolutely…read moreworth the 20 minute drive from Portsmouth for our anniversary dinner. And downtown Suffolk is just beautiful and quaint, it feels friendly and idyllic. *Ambience: Extremely comfortable, super approachable, but also refined with lots of wood and brick, but open and airy, and lots of light. You walk in to a cocktail and bar area, with an incredible painted sign on the brick wall behind the bar, that is a total throwback. The bar is incredibly comfortable and open and warm feeling. There are hardwood tables and beautiful booths along with a private dining area in the back. Really couldn't ask for or want for a more comfortable environment. *Service: absolutely stellar, super friendly staff, our server could not have been nicer or more genuine, or had more of an "ownership attitude" as if the restaurant meant everything to her, and so did us being there. She knew everything on the menu, had great recommendations, and insured we were consistently taken care of. She truly missed nothing. Harper, the owner, came over to check on us and ensure we were enjoying ourselves. He couldn't have been nicer or kinder or more humble. Service was outstanding. *Food & Drinks: The food! The drinks! Oh man! I've been a "Yelp Elite Member" for almost 10 years and the food here at hT is near the top of all my reviews, hundreds of them. The highest quality ingredients, impeccably curated, ingeniously but simply paired, created with a true love for the art of cooking and the true joy of the consumer. This was obvious. We started with a Mainstream Manhattan and Old Fashioned from the bar. No ordinary bartender, she's a true mixologist/professional. Both drinks were excellent, no "simple syrup" used here, raw sugar cubes melted into the finest spirits, yummm! We order brussels sprouts from the appetizer menu everywhere we go and compare them. None have ever come close to our favorite, for a dozen years, until now. These were crispy on the outside, but juicy inside, flash fried to an al dente bite and finished (almost injected) with a cherry vinegar glaze that permeated every bite with sweet, tart perfection. We also started with the vibrant Camden County May Pea & Truffle Toast which was like a celebration of spring with a fresh, grilled baguette topped with fancy Italian truffle cheese (insane!), sweet tender may peas, and fresh pea shoots, all drizzled with olive oil for a fresh, earthy, and simple bite that captured the essence of this farm-to-table cuisine. For entrees we ordered the Ben Johnson's Soft Shell Crabs with remoulade and the Brown Sugar Brined Porkchop with pimp cheese, grits, and chard tomatoes with a side of hand cut fries with roast shallot mayo. Everything was stellar, no exceptions. I can honestly say this was **the best pork chop I've ever eaten, ever.** Tender, sweet, meaty and paired perfectly with the creamy cheese grits and the tang and smoke of the charred tomatoes. Ridiculously good! See my photos, too bad they don't come with "taste-o-vision", because, wow! The hand cut, skin on, double fried potatoes and roast shallot mayo were fantastic. As if that wasn't enough food, they also brought us stone ground cornbread, with a massive slab of rough salted butter, steamy, warm, soft, buttery perfection. I'm ready to go back now! *Value & Overall: I posted pictures of all menus and all prices. Their spirits and mixed drink selections from the bar are incredible. The food, service and ambience simply couldn't have been better. Prices, as you'll see, are exactly in line for what you get and an excellent value. Portions on everything were excellent and we ended up taking home quite a bit of food, which was also stellar the next day. I absolutely cannot recommend Harper's Table highly enough. This establishment, all parts of it, truly earn a five star review across the board with no exceptions. Have no hesitation, make a reservation, go, it will become an instant favorite.

Bit of crispy brussels were a great table share for our party of three. This is a casual and comfortable location with plenty of seating. Didn't need a reservation for an early Saturday lunch, but available via Resy to secure your spot if desired. My husband and I visited this restaurant I believe a year or two ago we came one night for dinner and everything was delicious I'm not a big soul food person so every now and again I'll go out with my husband for a soul food dinner. Even though our first visit here was about 2 years ago we did visit this past Saturday with two other couples to celebrate our husbands for husband appreciation day which is the third Saturday in April always. We had reservations for Saturday at noon and we arrived right on time and our space was already set for us. Our waitress/bartender Alize took care of us... very personable ...very sweet... customer service was a 10 out of 10. I will make mention ahead of time I did order cornbread later on and I never got it :( Omg! I did call but no answer so I figured I would just go ahead and charge it to the game but I was definitely looking forward to trying the cornbread with my grits. The ambience inside is definitely welcoming the music is not blasting definitely a comfortable volume. The parking can be an issue but we didn't have one. Parking was available on the street and it was only a short walk for us to get to the restaurant. Our meals out of the six of us present I believe at least half of us ordered the catfish one person ordered the turkey chops and that was basically the gist of our meals. I don't think anybody ordered any straight up breakfast food but I will say everybody was in agreeance that this meal and dining experience was amazing! We will definitely be back soon and we definitely recommend you trying out this restaurant. My meal in particular I had the grilled catfish and created my grits with honey jalapeno and butter and oh my goodness everything was good from beginning to end. Our drinks were top-notch as well! The bartender even made up a drink for one of the wives at the table. She didn't know what she wanted but wanted to be surprised and she was pleasantly surprised she ordered another one. Our husbands enjoyed their surprise brunch even though they had some kind of inkling that something was happening because we did get shirts for them to wear to match each other... Such a fun Saturday and a great dining experience by all highly recommend you give them a try if you're in the area! Have fun and enjoy life :)

Now this place, I have seen it several times featured during Suffolk's restaurant week, but why haven't I visited until now, who knows! But it wont' be too long of a wait ever again! We ate breakfast here and we tore it up! My babe had the big breakfast and I had the simple breakfast along with a cranberry mimosa... ate it down!! Yall, I am hardly a fan of breakfast outside my kitchen, but I will give places a shot or two if the majority wants to go out. My go to for breakfast is usually a lunch option. And on this visit I almost ordered lunch (those fresh cut fries caught my eye), but my first mind said, Maria give the breakfast a try. So glad I did!! I was not disappointed by anything!! The wait time - none - seated super quickly. They have high tops and low seating as well as a few seats at the bar. From the time we ordered our meal - plate to table - great timing! My cranberry mimosa, no way I ordered two, because one was enough for me, very good! The freshness of everything on my plate... superb! While everything wasn't made from scratch, it was the presentation and the quality of it all. 10/10 Although it's small inside, this restaurant located inside an airport building/office suite had space for us and that's all that mattered. We dined long enough to see guests come and ago, but no one had to wait to be seated. There is a full bar here! Weekly specials! Happy hour deals! As a new Suffolk resident, I am pleased I came across this great hideaway :) I cannot wait to return when it is warm enough to enjoy the outdoor seating. Great job owners and staff!! I peeped the vibes too... super welcoming place! Have fun and enjoy life :)

My boyfriend ordered the Baron Burger, this particular day it was pretty dry which was alittle disappointing. Hopefully next time it'll be better. But overall this is a bar that's on rotation, good drinks and good food.

It's restaurant week in Suffolk and sadly it ends today. We…read moretried to dine at another restaurant featured this week, but they ran out of all our choices... bummer. Nevertheless, Da'Lish to the rescue, and they did not disappoint! I heard of this place, and had it on my radar to try. It's only been open a few months now, but seeing the menu, this place is tempting. Well the wait is over, yesterday, my mother and I dined her for a late lunch and everything was on point. Our server, Rachelle (spelling maybe off) was friendly and greeted us immediately. My mother and I already knew our purpose... dine her for restaurant week so we selected items from the three course menu. We both had the 15 bean soup. Main dish - my mom had the pulled chicken and ribs - myself - the strawberry salad with salmon. Dessert - they were sold out of the cobbler, it was peach. Therefore, the only other option was cheesecake. However, we could choose our drizzle. Carmel for me and raspberry for my mom. My mom enjoyed every bite of her meal. With me... while I enjoyed my meal, I was a little disappointed in the salad. I did ask the contents and it was missed that onions are in the salad... yuck! I do not like raw onions. I did my best to eat around them and overall it was good, but I much would have loved it without the red onions. I asked to have my salmon blackened and they were able to deliver! My salmon was super tasty! I did eat a few strawberries, nuts and spinach leaves. I did try ribs and pulled chicken and both were tasty! My mom loved the toast that came with the meal. She even asked for more. The soup was flavorful and we wanted more, but kept it cute. The owner Dennis came out to talk with us and he was an absolute pleasure. I read the story on the menu - it was a good read. So I had an idea who the guy was when he walked out. Easy to talk to and he said he is the cook also! We definitely complimented him on everything. I even mentioned I wanted to try the jalapeno jerky he mentioned in the write up and to my surprise he had some for me to try! Da'Lish!!! I love jalapenos!! And this jerky had the spice and a hint of sweetness. An awesome combination!!! I highly recommend you stop in and dine because this hidden treasure is sure to delight you. From starters to dessert, definitely come to Suffolk and check them out. I understand they offer brunch on Sundays only from 9am to 2pm. I think I just might come here again very soon. The hospitality and food - they have what it takes! Wishing you all the best! Da'Lish it is!! Plenty of parking as this restaurant is located inside the Suffolk Cultural Arts building. Not hard to find at all. Come for a real treat! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. You can sit at a 2 or 4 person table and bar seating is available as well. Outdoor dining is an option too! Have fun and enjoy life :)

This is my second visit here, both were mediocre. The service was great, but the meal was not very…read moreflavorful. The prime rib had -zero- flavor, it was just a slab of meat. The fries were temperature hot, which is a plus for me; however, there was too much salt. The deviled eggs were truly Da'Lish. The lettuce in the salad did not seem to be clean and had a bitter taste. I had brunch a couple of weeks ago and was not impressed with the meal, but the service again was outstanding!
