My husband and I were in Phoenix for a few days and found this place by awesome reviews (Yelp, duh!) so I went on to Open Table to make a reservation. No idea how I managed to find one so quick, but I did. It was packed here for a Saturday night! We didn't know what to expect, but by the look of how busy it was, it's a super popular place. The live DJ's music played outside on speakers for people waiting for their reservations and really added to the experience. Finally we got seated and I started off with a margarita. Fresh chips and salsa were brought out as starters and we placed our orders. Not long after our food arrived and I was stunned how incredible the quesabirria and fish tacos were! Beans and rice were included and were to die for! We were way too full to finish off with dessert, but I wish we had because I saw others who ordered churros and other desserts that looked impressive. i had asked specifically for no pico on my food but it came out with pico then we had to wait 5 mins for silverware bc no one walked by so by the time we started eating everything was room temp. food was good just bad experience with server. if we hadn't asked for silverware our food would have been sitting for longer. after that our server never checked back on us nor apologized. read more

As soon as you walk in there is a DJ behind the host so you feel like you're walking into a club. Host was rude and took a long time to seat us even though it wasn't busy. We asked to be seated outside, so it would be less noisy. It was not --the DJ music was super loud. Yum! The tacos are great. I loved the fish and my friend loved the crispy beef taco. (Called something to the extent of "best f-ing taco"). The build your margarita bar, was pretty cool and I will try that next time. The Caesar salad was amazing and a whole Romain lettuce which was seasoned perfectly and good to share with others. The salsa is good as well so you won't be disappointed! We were a group of eight and the waiter was patient and answered all of our questions; great for a larger group! Food and service was good however it is a little loud in the restaurant. We could not decide what we wanted to eat and our waitress made some great suggestions. On top of that it was Taco Tuesday and three of their most popular tacos were just $2.00 vs the normal price of $8.00. We not only had appetizers we we each had a couple of the Taco Tuesday Special. Just remember if you get the special please leave your server a tip based on the regular price not the special price. First off, I love the ambiance at The Mexicano! There is a giant piñata outside and another inside of the restaurant. The music is lively and the staff is friendly, especially our server, Mariah! We ordered the taco platter, which consisted of birria, agave shrimp, chicken tinga, carne asada, al pastor and short rib. The Birria was delicious! The carne asada was also full of flavor, as was the short rib. The pastor was good, but not great. We also ordered the fresa cremosa agua fresca. It was beautifully created by our wonderful server, Mariah, and tasted like strawberry ice cream. We didn't need dessert after drinking it! Would we come back the next time we are in Phoenix? Our party couldn't enjoy our dinner because it was hot in the restaurant! This isn't a one time thing as I know others who have complained about this on prior visits. putting a large floor fan isn't enough to cool the place down when the sliders are open to the outside! The restaurant itself is really cool and has an excellent vibe and atmosphere. Beware that it is pretty loud- didn't bother us but I know some people don't care for that. They have some special "gimmicky" things that are fun for if you have a big group. When it came to the actual food, we thought it was just ok. The service was OK. It was a bit chilly and they had overhead heaters. Despite asking for them to be turned on multiple times, we didn't get the heaters going the entire time. Overall, I think the staff was nice. The food was good. I should've written this review sooner, because I mostly forgot what exactly I tried, but we had a good variety of vegetarian food options. I visited during a busy lunch hour (6/2023) and was seated near the door and aisle on a crowded shared bench. Too many people passed the table, and I felt like I was eating lunch with the two groups of people on the left and right. My date swirled his food around a few times and did not eat it. I am unsure what others see in the food, but my taco salad was subpar. I understand they are trying to put a unique spin on their food, but why mess with perfection by adding radishes and chipotle honey? The drink the waitress suggested was not good. The one time the server came to our table, I told her I did not care for the drink; she did not suggest something else or ask me if I wanted another drink (how's that for service?). I absolutely loved this place! It is such a fun atmosphere to go with friends, but also a great date night. The environment is loud with Spanish music playing in the background. The decor I absolutely stunning in its representation for Latin culture. The food was excellent! I had three different tacos. Birria, shrimp, and chicken mole. The Birria was one of the best Birria's in town! So much flavor and tender. The Baja shrimp was also excellent. I loved the poblano cream & the shrimp was nice and crispy. The chicken mole blew my mind. It's so hard to find good mole. This mole was a little spicy, with a nice red chili flavor. I topped it all off with a margarita. Who can go wrong with one of those? Decided to try this place because of it's spectacular happy hour menu and prices. Tacos are only $2 and nachos and wings are $10. The catch is you have to get a seat in the happy hour area and we were fortunate to get one. The tacos were really good. We tried the al pastor and the chicken. The al pastor was more flavorful and both tacos had lots of toppings. The nachos were also very good with lots of melted cheese, meat, and other toppings. The chicken wings were served super hot and crunchy. They were also pretty spicy but had really nice flavorful. When I mentioned how spicy they were, the server brought us sour cream and their cilantro cream dressing. The dressing paired well with the wings. Got the flight of margaritas and they literally all tasted like lime, no other flavor. I got fajitas and when i asked for more tortillas, they charged me $4 extra, like I wasn't already spending enough money. We were told the dancers weren't coming and the robots were only in there for about 10 minutes. Overall, it was very lame and so overpriced. Paid over $100 for 2 people with no dessert and no appetizers. Just 1 margarita flight and 2 entrees. Well first thing first, this place is LOUD on a Friday night. It's a total party and fun, but loud. If I came here with my husband who has bad hearing from the Army, we wouldn't be able to talk because he wouldn't hear a word I said. As for the service? Friendly, amazing, and quick. This place is good! I had heard people talking about The Mexicano for years, and I was finally able to try it. I came during happy hour both times, and I was lucky enough to be seated quickly. The happy hour choices are enough for a meal. Then second time I went, I got the ahi tuna tacos just to try them. They are small and cute, but we had too much food. I think next time, I'll skip those and just order off of the happy hour menu. The chips and salsa are really good. The birria nachos amazing. I also loved the al pastor tacos. The amazing end to dinner was the churro cart for dessert. These are some of the best churros I've had. They are light, fluffy, and crispy. The tres leches and caramel sauces were my favorites. Food here is very good, maybe not award-winning, but good. We have been a couple of times. The first time I had the birria nachos and thought they hit all the happy notes, cheesy, beefy, beany. The combination with crispy chips was just right. Today I tried the tacos (al pastor, carnitas, and tinga). Of the three, I thought the carnitas had the best flavor, just added a little lime. The al pastor was a little too sticky for my taste and the tinga didn't have quite enough zing. The one area that would win an award is for -est restaurant. I grabbed a sweater that I keep in the car and it was not enough. If anyone from the restaurant sees this, please consider lowering your electrical expenses and raising the temp a couple of degrees. Wasn't sure what to expect here but as we were walking up there was a line to get in. They have a lovely outdoor cobblestone walk up and strong misters cooled us off in this heat immediately. A gentleman at the door (constantly holding it open or closing it after guests) welcomed us and a hostess (standing outside with an ipad) ushered us to the inside hostess stand. We had a reservation so we sat right down but the moment we walked in it was like a live Mexican dance party hit us in the face (in a good way!) - lively, lots of energy, piñatas to the right (they sit atop the super Margarita bar), and it's loud. I immediately told my gf, ok so we are yelling at one another for dinner! (It was a little easier to hear one another when we sat down but it is definitely a loud restaurant - and VERY busy on a Friday night around 7:30pm). The menus indicate the margaritas are the best, so of course we had to order them (that's what we wanted anyhow) - she got the Mangoneada and I had the Summer Fling with a tajin rim (I got the option of salt, sugar or tajin which I loved). We also ordered guacamole for us to enjoy, and it came out with some (looked like handmade) tostadas, it had pomegranate in it, and it was good (not the absolute best but felt like it was missing something). However the chips and salsa - HOLY MOLY. The SALSA here... it has a smoky flavor, and although it is not spicy, it is absolutely delicious. We basically put it on everything it was so, so, good! I asked if I could take some to go at the end, I had to have more of it. Also realized there was an empanada with tinga chicken and we tried those too - YUM. Chicken was tender and flavor of tinga was absolutely splendid. The empanada was so fresh and crispy (but perfect thickness too). The sour cream and cheese atop was good as was the pico it came with... but again, with the table salsa - next level delicious in your mouth. I ordered 3 tacos, (they have a 3 for 17 on basic and ones that seem "premium", can't mix and match, they'll just charge you per taco, and they're about 7-8 bucks each so worth getting the 3. I went for the crispy potato, the quesabirria, and the fish taco. My gf had the quesabirria, the asada, and the al pastor. She took one home, it was a lot with the 2 apps, our drinks and the tacos (you can add rice and beans for $2 but we opted out due to the second app). I had 2 margs (because I gulped the first one quick it was so good it was like drinking juice), and so that whole meal was filling for us. All in all, was impressed with the flavors and the ambience, I was surprised and it was delicious and I am absolutely going again with more friends! read more
