The Ferris wheel salsa and guacamole bar is a novelty as tasty as it is visually intriguing. I ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer as an entree and it did not disappoint. The jumbo portion size was unexpected and appreciated. Our waiter Christian B was friendly and focused on helping us have an amazing experience. His pleasant personality made us feel welcome especially given that this was our first visit. Although we were full with plenty of leftovers to take home, we couldn't pass up the churro cart. Went for brunch on Cinco de Mayo and really enjoyed the variety in the happy hour menu. The braised beef flautas were so delicious! They had beautiful custom Cinco de Mayo cocktail cups and menus. The bartender was prompt and very polite younger gentleman. After that lovely experience, I decided to make a brunch reservation through OpenTable for my mom on Mother's Day. They had the option of ordering from their regular menu or opt in for the Mother's Day buffet. The buffet offered a build your own taco bar, ceviche, flautas, Mexican rice & beans, churros and so much more! They even added one free margarita for the mom's! The live dj was a lot of fun and not too loud. Our waitress, Claudia was very attentive and personable. She took her time at our table and made a real connection with each of us. We went to The Mexicano in January after the "re-opening". This was the original location that had been closed for renovation after a devastating fire. We were greeted when approaching the door as a line had formed prior to their opening time. The young lady asked if we had reservations and we did. Once entering, we asked to have Amy be our server. Michael, the jewel of a manager greeted us by name and suggested that we be seated on the covered patio. I knew that I would be surrounded by a decor that was botanically beautiful, but WOW. The attention to detail, even down to the salt and pepper shakers (my late mother-in-law would have most def had those in her purse), didn't miss a beat. Amy brought us chips and Salsa. Guacamole is so good and we added the pomegranate for an additional crunch, actually got a second order to take home. We loved our tacos and the Margaritas were excellent. I guess I will have to try UBER one day because I surely will want more than one in the future. We are also looking forward to when they open The Mexicano in Chandler, it will be very convenient to meet friends there since they live about an hour south. After several great lunches we tried The Mexicano for dinner. Music was so loud inside & out we couldn't have a conversation. Menu had changed & almost nothing vegetarian. As a vegan I ended up ordering rice & corn tortillas & guacamole to make my own tacos. The guacamole never arrived. So I had rice & corn tortilla. Waitstaff never came back to check even though the restaurant was not full. Even the meat eaters in our party were not impressed. PS was told the pinto beans had pork so I ordered black beans but they brought pinto which I didn't eat. Totally disappointed. When they say the best Birria Tacos they aren't lying. I ate them so fast I forgot to take a picture. I am not even a fan of Birria Tacos because they always seem so dry. Not these. Also, I love how the manager comes around and checks on the clientele. I joked with her that I had a problem. This place!!! Wow! My boyfriend and I had the best experience at The Mexicano last night. It was our first visit. I've been wanting to try it out for the past year, and it was definitely worth the wait! The festive atmosphere began in the parking lot. They had fun Latin music pumping on the inside and the outside of the restaurant, including the parking lot. I started dancing even before we got inside. We checked in at the hostess stand and was told there was a 45 minute wait. We said, "ok" and gave them our phone number. I find that the wait time typically isn't as long as predicted at most restaurants. I was right. After 20 minutes, they texted us that our table was ready. Whoo hoo! We were seated near the Margarita Bar. They had a cute set up where customers could add a variety of toppings to their margarita, from candy to fruit. There was a container of fun straws there as well. The restaurant was packed and the in-house DJ provided a fun nighclub-like atmosphere (on a Monday night). I couldn't stop dancing...in my seat, around the restaurant, in the restroom. We gave the DJ a tip at the end of the night because he was that good! Our server was fantastic. He was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. We told him that my boyfriend was celebrating his birthday and he got really excited and said that they would provide a birthday treat. The chips and salsa were so good! The salsa had just the right amount of "kick" to it. I ordered three tacos, with rice and beans on the side. The Baja Shrimp and the Baja Fish tacos were my favorite. My boyfriend had the chicken enchilada, which he said had a little spice as well, but was not over the top (our server had warned us that it would be a bit spicy). They provided us with a free birthday dessert of wonderful warm churros, topped with chocolate sauce, with vanilla ice cream on the side. So nice! The ceviche was delicious, and tasted light and bright with the fresh citrus. The guacamole could feed a family of four. Following that we had room for a taco each- Carne Asada and Queso Birria. Went with a large group of 14 and they were able to accommodate us on the patio with no problem. Once most of the group was sat, a runner brought chips and salsa to the table along with water. Server was pleasant and attentive. For was good. Our party had shrimp fajitas, taco salad, street tacos. One minor issue was the chicken for the taco salad as cold and dry. With a large party the most they can split the check 3 ways. One of our friends became over heated from the heaters on the patio and passed out. The manager was quick to bring us bags of ice to help cool here down. 911 was called and the PHX fire fighters came quickly. Q: What do you call cold Mexican food? A: A Brrrr-rito. I've heard such great things about The Mexicano! Considering that this place came from Chef Joey Maggiore, the mastermind behind The Hash Kitchen, The Sicilian Butcher, and The Sicilian Baker, I'm not surprised. So after a night of haunted house hopping, the crew and I popped into The Mexicano at long last. I had a La Fresa Mule, The Best F#*%ing Birria Enchiladas, and we shared some Queso Fundido for the table. Everything was pretty delicious. The La Fresa Mule was okay. As a mule-lover, it sufficed. My enchiladas, despite its name, wasn't the best f#*%ing birria enchiladas but they were still flavorful and delightfully spiced. I can't for the life of me make enchiladas for some reason so I still greatly enjoyed my meal. As for the queso, the queso was amazingly melty and creamy. I even used some of the chips to eat the queso after we ran out of tortillas. So why the four stars? Well this *is* Arizona. We have a lot of great Mexican food all around the valley for a more modest price tag. I'm still glad I got to go to another Maggiore Group restaurant though. read more

We went there Friday evening at 7pm to celebrate the birthday of a friend. Upon arriving I was supriseed to see a DJ booth adjacent to the host stand, it was quite loud and difficult to communcate with the host. Since this was in the Bar/Lounge area I thought it would be quieter on the patio where we were going to be seated, boy was I wrong! After about 10 minutes they actually raised the volume to a point that we could barely communicate with the other people at our table. I asked our server if they could lower the music she said she would ask but doubted they would since that is the "Vibe" they wanted. We left before ordering food, so I can't comment on that. I've been here a few times and the food is so good and the margaritas are awesome! I love the fun vibe and the creative food presentations they have like the guacamole and salsa carousel. They have a fire dancer there sometimes, a DJ, build your own margarita bar, and someone going around with a tequila shot cart. The service is ok, can be slow at times. It's very loud in the restaurant, but it fits the vibe of the whole place. The birria tacos are so good and the nachos are probably the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is lively and upbeat, perfect for catching up and sharing good food. We kicked things off with drinks: my sister had the frozen watermelon margarita, which she really enjoyed. I ordered a regular Paloma--while it was decent, I would have loved to taste more of that fresh citrus flavor. If there was fresh grapefruit, lime, or orange juice used, it didn't quite shine through. That said, it was still refreshing. The chips and salsa were a standout--the salsa was flavorful and clearly made with care. We split the Tour de Mexicano, and wow, it was a lot of food! The green chili was especially good--mild in spice but rich in flavor. For dessert, we indulged in the churros, which came with three dipping sauces: chocolate, caramel, and what I think was dulce de leche. All were tasty and a sweet way to end the meal. I love this place. I've been here twice, I just wish it were a little closer or it would definitely be my happy hour staple. Margaritas are premade and poured but they're different than the typical spout pour in my opinion. I've always sat at the bar and I love the bartenders there. They've all been nice and super efficient. I've had the crispy potato taco both times I've went and it's something I'd continue to get. The enchilada and steak skillet are also super good. The street taco is the only one I could do without ordering. That's not to say it's not good, just saying there's other things I like more. They have a margarita bar, think Bloody Mary bar, except better because margaritas over bloodies. The inside and vibe is super cute, happy hour is great, and I really enjoy the food.
