    Catfish n' grits

I've had the catfish n grits 5-6 times in the last two months or so. Been extremely consistent in quality, catfish is always flaky, grits are perfect, n the greens and cornbread compliment everything really nicely! Highly recommend this place to everyone Ik, they have a speakeasy too!!

Decided to try this new place in Puyallup. It's in the old Mexican restaurant location off 120Th and Meridian. Its remodeling is done well and has that fun speakeasy vibe. The day we went they were have a few issues but the food like the Apple Cider brined Airline chicken and Pork Chop. As dishes go they were good but could use some improvement as the carrots needed to be cooked more but the glaze was good as were the potatoes. The dessert Empanadas (apple) are yummy with e caramel sauce. The Strawberry Shortcake can use a little work. Service was very good and both owners were doing table touches and waiting on customers. Overall great service. Ok a 5 rating with this review you ask, yes. It's a new place and things happen. So we will be back.

Blank table due to very poor service! We walked out after 20 minutes.

We came here for the first time for drinks and small plates. There was a birthday party, but it was still not that bad of a crowd for five employees and the kitchen staff. We were sat, no water was brought to our table for about ten minutes. Then finally the water arrived and we placed our drink order. That was the last we saw of the employees. Two of them constantly looking at the computer, two ladies talking behind the bar, and one girl catering to the party. I don't think they can handle being in business. Someone needs to teach them how to run a bar and restaurant. I don't recommend this place and I am not planning on ever giving them any business!

I was extremely excited to try this new "speakeasy" that I heard about in Puyallup. In my mind it was gonna be dimly lit, old school, classy dark-colored furniture, easy listening jazzy music playing softly in the background and a warm ambiance that was inviting, once you stepped in. That's what I picture when I hear speakeasy. A very intimate setting. However, this was completely opposite. It was bright, with a mishmash of decor. I wasn't sure if there was a theme. There were fake plants and a column/pillar with mirrors on it, an Amazon Forrest mural on the wall with televisions up on a couple. Felt like a sports bar. The tables and chairs were your average styled booths, that light-colored wood. It was sooooo cold inside. When we walked in, we were greeted by a nice young lady. She seemed to have a puzzled look on her face as to why we were there. My husband stated we had reservations. So now we were seated. Time to order. Looking over the menu, I see the pricing and was like "ok, a lil higher priced type of menu" I was down to give it a try. We ordered the calamari and zucchini chips for apps and then the butternut squash risotto with scallops (approx $30) for me and the brined chicken ($28) for my husband as well as a side of broccolini ($14). The apps came out first and I was honestly shocked. The calamari were so tiny and the zucchini looked like what they would serve in a bowling alley. Both dishes had the "mama lil's peppers" in it. I'm okay with the portion size but how are you charging $20 for calamari and $14 for the zucchini? Then we received our entrees. Again, we were looking for an elevated dining experience with the pricing of the food, to include presentation and all. I was disappointed to see the cheap cafeteria-like silverware and dish ware it was served on. Now understand the food was good. Not OMG WE ARE COMING BACK kinda good. But mid. Nothing wrong with that but the way they advertise is as if you are about to have a romantic, chill and classy dining experience. It's okay to be mid tier. I won't be mad about it. My dish was not butternut squash risotto, it was a mushroom risotto with 4 mid sized scallops. My husband's chicken was nicely seasoned and flavored and the mashed potatoes it came with, delish. He had caramelized carrots but some were straight black. Maybe a bit much heat. The broccolini was drowning in a cream sauce with onions and mama lil's peppers, slightly overcooked. Needless to say, it wasn't the dinner I was expecting, especially paying almost $200 for it. We did have a couple drinks and those were good. Customer service was on point. The staff were accommodating and helpful. I would kinda expect that since there were only us and another table in the dining room area. I had high hopes but sadly, not the vibe I was looking for. I've been to a fair share of a lil more upscale restaurants and this didn't hit that point for me personally. I think with lower prices and refraining from calling it a speakeasy, it could do well. Just my opinion. Oh they had a lil area for taking selfies available. Thank you for a nice date night with my hubby. We had a chance to have some one on one time together.

Ambiance is amazing! Servers and Owner are welcoming and down to earth. Yall have to try this roasted pineapple margarita 10/10. The crab dip will make you want more and the stuffed mushrooms sitting on top some sweet chili sauce was great. Now for the entrees, we had the seafood cajan pasta and the catfish sitting on some flavorful grits and greens 10/10. We'll definitely be back to try more. Great night. #themeridiansouth.hill

The ambiance once you enter the door is yours to make: you can either choose the traditional and more family friendly side of this establishment, or you can choose to enter into their speak-easy part. Despite this being a newer restaurant, the service was very professional with a family-home style hospitality. The staff was completely transparent on what type of wait times to expect during your entire visit as their farm-to-table style of service does take a bit more longer than commonly expected times at other big-chaim restaurants. The drinks and food were both memorably delicious!

    Vibe Bingo

Five Stars on food, service, and ambiance. I will recommend and be happy to return back.

    Cider brined chicken

We didn't exactly get the speakeasy vibe we were looking for (it was a slow Sunday and the host said they had the secret sliding bookshelf/bar entry door open already when we got there). But once you get into the bar area, it does have the 1920s/prohibition vibe going.. music was good. And the food was on point! For starters, we got the seafood dip, which was warm n cheesy.. we also got the steak Diablo. I thought it was going to be a plate of steak and baguettes with sauce but it was more of a stew or soup that the strips of steak sat in, but still yummy. I got the cider brined chicken for dinner which was deliciousssss Drinks are good and the staff is friendly. Def worth a try!

Our party of three was seated at a two-top but that may have been because we accidentally made reservations for two and then emailed about a change. We ordered two Viking Fogcutters and a Miskatonic Mistake for drinking along with some focaccia and deviled eggs for munching. That pretty much fills the entire table. The drinks were great! The bread and eggs were very tasty. The focaccia was super fluffy and warm. We added three salmon chowders to eat after devouring the eggs and focaccia. The three large bowls barely fit on the table but we made it work. The chowder and biscuits were awesome. The staff was very friendly and helpful (certainly not part of the Esoteric Order of Dagon).

You could miss this spot if you don't know that there is a stairway that goes down a level (hence the name Underground??)) Once you get down there, you get the vibe of a bar (on the low light side, but bright enough to see and enjoy your food, drink, and company). It does give karaoke bar vibe. The service was just ok. I had questions about the rice cake dishes which are basically teokkbokki, but I'm not sure why they don't put that on the menu. The person who took our order was fine but non descriptive with the dishes. The creamy rice cake looked like penne Alfredo upon coming out. The taste was fine, but since it wasn't described for me, I truly didn't know what was in it other than heavy cream (because that's what I was told). Other than the four star chicken, it was fine. Alright, so this spot has no air conditioning even though its pretty small in there, so I'd recommend sitting outside. Or else, the inside can become a sauna especially in the summer. Had initially requested to sit inside, totally forgetting about the no A/C and my friend who has never been here requested to sit outside. But the server became short with us and was less than pleasant but had intially agreed to take us outside. So it was a confusing situation. And I was embarrassed to bring my friend here because they were talked at and not to and was suggested to sit at a dirty table at that. Food was mid and wasn't as good as it used to be. Perfect spot for Vietnamese street food and late-night cravings, but a nightmare of a parking lot…read more My family was visiting from California last month, and naturally we needed to find somewhere to feed our party of 6 after our Seattle tourist trip. We arrived around 9 PM on a Thursday; I picked this restaurant because we were all craving Vietnamese food, and thankfully La Cà Bar is open late enough that we were still able to spend time eating together over a yummy meal. We sat downstairs since we were there primarily for the food and wanted to actually sit down and eat together. It was pretty empty when we arrived aside from one table, and we were able to seat ourselves wherever we wanted. They close at midnight, so arriving around 9 PM still gave us plenty of time to order, eat, and enjoy ourselves without feeling rushed. And then we proceeded to order an unreasonable amount of food. Everything we tried was delicious. The spring rolls were definitely superb (especially when dipped in the sauce), and I highly recommend getting a few for the table because apparently my family and I devoured them ASAP while waiting for our main course. I had to get the Bánh Xèo, because I have absolutely no self-control when I see it on a menu. The crepe was savory, filling, and delicious. Since it was cold that night, I also ordered Bún Bò Huế, because apparently being cold means I need to consume an entire bowl of spicy soup. I personally missed the classic cubes of pork blood that I usually expect in Bún Bò Huế, but it was still flavorful and satisfying without them. I also noticed the food here leans more toward Northern Vietnamese-style cuisine, but everything we had was still really tasty. I somehow managed to finish most of my food despite ordering enough to feed a second family. My family enjoyed their meals too. My son got a bánh mì without the garnish and was impressed by how huge and satisfying it was. Teenagers can be difficult to impress, so when the teenager says the bánh mì is huge and good, I listen. Our server was also really nice and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Now, parking... Oh, sweet Jesus. The parking lot is TIGHT. The surrounding streets aren't particularly spacious either. If you have an SUV like myself, or anything larger, prepare yourself. I was genuinely relieved when I got back into my car and discovered that my vehicle had survived the evening without acquiring any new battle scars. But honestly? Worth it. The best part for me was how nostalgic the food felt. Vietnam is the country where I was born, so getting to sit down with my family and eat Vietnamese street food that reminded me of home was really special. We live far from where I grew up, so finding food that brings back even a little bit of that familiarity means a lot. And after moving away, I really appreciate those little moments where a meal can transport you somewhere for a couple of hours. So yes, 5 stars. Great late-night option, delicious food, friendly service, generous portions, and a menu that scratched the Vietnamese food itch perfectly.
