Went here a few years ago and got a nice, fat, fresh sandwich. It has DEFINITELY gone down hill since then. Never mind how run down the place is--if the sandwiches were good, I'd ignore that. The woman behind the counter took orders for me and my wife, with the special direction that there be no onion nor mustard on hers. Then, another customer came in to order his sandwich. After waiting about ten minutes, the other customer got his sandwich first and left. It took another ten minutes to get our order, and then I see only one sandwich sitting on the counter. She heard both orders, asked us what kind of bread we wanted, wrote down notes. Then, only charged us for only one sandwich, made us wait 20 minutes, served a customer that came in after us first, forgot mine, and left my wife's with mustard and onions contrary to my order. Slicer? Nothing sliced fresh here anymore. All prepackaged, salty meat on cheap bread. Not terrible, but I could buy Oscar Meyer packs from Basha's and make something better. Our server seemed pretty clueless and out to lunch. This is not how you run a restaurant. She offered to make me another sandwich and I didn't give her to opportunity to make another mistake. We were in AJ today looking at a few flea markets and decided to get lunch and the Meat Slicer had a 4.5 rating and a deli sandwich sounded good to the both of us. So we went there and got a Slicer special to split with a couple waters and Cheetos. Before tax and tip that order was $17.15 after $21.60. The sandwich was very good with Loads of meat, but a deli should have some side salad and a pickle having a healthy portion of meats is just the start especially for a $12.69 sandwich. People were very nice, the server is a bit lackluster but that's pretty much what you get these days. The selection of drinks and chips was VERY LIMITED also another fail for a "deli". My rating for this establishment if I were talking about the sandwich only would be a 4.5, but given the idea we were going to a local deli with such a high rating within YELP our expectations were much higher. read more

Slouched over the counter looking miserable. #2. I told her my order, she repeated it and got it wrong. I corrected. #3. Prices are not as posted on 2 different wall menus. Higher, and there's a " service charge" with no explanation. #4. Only 3 tables in the place and they were all dirty. #5. She ended up helping with the sandwiches but wore gloves so I felt better. Chip options were very minimal and they had no other sides. Not sure if the tables were stained or dirty. Excited to get our sandwiches as the reviews are really good. Sandwiches were loaded with meat but the meat was VERY cheap. Ended up removing half the meat as is did not taste good. The bead was good but soggy. Loved the avocado I added but that's about the only thing I did like. Kind of a weird place. The cashier was the first problem, not saying hello or explaining the menu to a first timer. The rest of the decor in the place is quite dated. But, as for the food, the small sandwich was huge, but something just didn't taste right. It looked like fresh meat, but there was way too much and it didn't taste that great. After some thought and research into these reviews, I believe this business used to be run by different owners/management. If you take a look, all the bad reviews begin 1 year ago; "owners are so friendly", "employees are welcoming", etc. up until a year ago. Now with that said, both my wife and I got mild food poisoning from this place. We walked in an were not greeted at all, a guy wearing sunglasses just pops out of the back and says "what can I get ya", a lady, presumably his gf or wife walks up to the counter slower than Maine molasses in winter, stood there not saying a damn word, looking at us with pure judgment, it was the strangest interaction I've ever had in a sandwich shop. We ask to use the restroom and she points to the back, my wife heads back there and I sh*t you not there is a full on bedroom in the back room, the bathroom has toothpaste tubes on the counter, on her way through the kitchen she realizes the floor is riddled with pieces of meat and old veggies. At first I didn't notice anything unusual with my food. Except that it was loaded with so much meat I couldn't fit it in a garbage disposal let alone my mouth. It was okay, not bad bad, just not the best. I peeled the sandwich apart and realized most of my meat was slimy and immediately stopped eating. Sat on the toilet most of the following day. Great sandwich! You can tell the meat (and all ingredients really) is top quality. But, I had to take off one star because of one factor. Now, I don't know if it is because I'm from California, or that I have a pre-existing condition that makes me super cautious during this pandemic, but it was super jarring to see my food get made by someone not wearing a mask. At first, I was trying to accept it...the fact that the young lady who took our order was not wearing a mask was not too bad because the guy in the kitchen had did have one on, and I thought: "that's what matters, right?" This massive mammoth of a sandwich came loaded up with Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, Pastrami, Cheddar, Swiss, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Mayo and Mustard (*catching my breath). Slapped it in between some French Bread and unhinged the jaw for this epic mess of deliciousness. Not that you can't whip these up at home, Meat Slicer puts the deli touch in it. Is it a Uhaul dealer? A sandwich shop? Both? Sounds as weird as this place was. We walked in and immediately had reservations. There's a large counter, which you would expect to be filled with sliced meats, however, it is not. The counter blocks the view of the people actually making the sandwiches. I could see the tops of large vats of mayo? Pickles? Who knows... But I could see what is a wet floor in the back corner and a little kid running through it. I could finish 1/2 of it & took the rest to go. The sandwiches are stacked tall, no matter how big your face is, it will be a struggle to fit the height of the sandwich in your mouth. The bacon was crisp and tasty. Avocado fresh. The bread was soft & did not fall apart. Good price for the portion size. Large subs come with a small bag of chips. If I could give ZERO stars, I probably would. The owners wife (who took the orders) behaved like she could care less about any sort of customer service. Inside and outside both have very limited seating, and outside in the parking lot may be cleaner than inside the dinning area. My buddy and I ordered, and took a seat and I'm assuming the woman that took our order went back to make our sandwiches. About 5 minutes later another person entered and she came up to take his order and then went back to the kitchen. After sitting for about 10 minutes two more guys walked in and ordered. After they ordered they took a seat. My friend and I ordered the slicer works, the next guy ordered and Italian and the two other guys ordered a slicer works and pastrami. After about 10 more minutes she comes out and gives the two guys their sandwiches and they leave. 5 minutes after that she comes out with the Italian and he leaves. At this point we've been sitting for 30 minutes and still no sandwiches. After 10 more minutes we finally get our sandwiches (to go) and we leave.... Well they were the wrong ones... we got the slicer works and pastrami order for the last two guys, assuming she just gave the right sandwiches to the wrong people. We took a mini road trip to AJ. They only had 5 choices or make your own. Which is totally fine. I ordered the Italian beef and he ordered the traditional Italian. The sandwiches were not as ginormous as the pics but they were still huge. Had half for lunch and half for dinner. What made it for me was the fresh squishy homemade bread. Gal at the register was not very friendly and was wearing a shirt with her belly exposed. 4 sandwiches took 45 minutes to make and the gentleman making them was on the phone with U-Haul the entire time. I called the next day to see if he would take care of it and he said he couldn't do anything about it. One of the sandwiches had mold on the bread and another got my friend sick. 5 stars for the food. So tasty & absolutely the thickest sandwich I have ever had, bread was so soft & each sandwich was only $10. I could only eat half so I wish I would have shared with the hubs. Chips were cheap too. With not many choices for food beyond basic fast food in Apache Junction, I can see why the locals have given this place a 5 star rating. We found the place difficult to find based on the Waze maps directions. The strip mall it is located in really needs demolished so I would guess that makes the rent more affordable. Here is my warning-this place is absolutely filthy. Due to their cheap prices, I am sure there wasn't much in profits to be saved for improvements during COVID but that is no excuse for filth. We were completely prepared to have our sandwiches hit the garbage on our way out but after watching the counter get cleaned & the makins come out of the refrigerator & the application of gloves when making the sandwiches we felt a little safer. I asked about that and they said all prices went up. They should post it and change their menu then. With tax it was 13 bucks for a sandwich. I won't be back. The sandwich was subpar at best. So just have to say ordered my food with my buddy and a guy came in about 5 min after (no one else in the shop at that time) and ordered then about 5-10 later a group two guys came in and ordered. Some how the 2 guys got their food first and then the 1 guy before they even started my food....when they were working on it before the first guy came in....40 minutes to get a sandwich is a joke ...they must not understand the supply chain inventory management of FIFO or they like to use FILO...either way I got told don't worry it'll be five minutes. No you mean 40 minutes total. The order wasn't even the right sandwiches after all that but I refused to wait even longer for it to be fixed (we got the other two guys orders).
