The place is fairly popular in the morning and for good reason: they serve up scrumptious breakfast at great prices ($10-$15). Also note that they've partnered up with Clipp.com in which you can get 50% your check. I ordered their French toast and added bacon and eggs. The other places I've eaten bacon at have been so lackluster that I begun to wonder if I even enjoyed bacon anymore. Thanks to Old School Grub, I was able to eat delicious bacon once more. Full disclosure, I went with Taste of Arizona so all food was free in exchange for my honest review. Old School Grub is an American cafe with a bar and karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights. I appreciate the locally owned, mom & pop feel. The inside feels dated though. Very late 90s decore and furniture. The restaurant is clean and lit well enough with many windows for natural light. The food is decent. The eggs benedict was ok. The hollandaise sauce was tasty, but the eggs were not drained enough resulting in a soggy English muffin. I'd recommend wording it with light sauce. Everything was swimming in it. The homeboy potatoes were overcooked and the veggies in them were undercooked and crunchy. The coffee was typical dinner coffee. We visited for the first time on a late Sunday morning - the place was packed and now I know why. The food and service are equally excellent. We ordered the Moco Loco (don't see that in many places - let alone in AZ!) which was so tasty. The BBQ pork sandwich is one of the best in the Valley. The pork is perfectly slow cooked and the toasted brioche bun was like eating a bread cloud. There were plenty of friendly, hard working staff to make sure every guest was treated and served well. If I could leave a 0 I would. First off we witnessed the man who brings out the food duck down behind the counter drinking from a flask. Then our waitress was beyond unorganized. Our meal came out with cheese which we asked 2x for no cheese, no drink refill and didn't check on us one time. We flagged her down for the bill and she was confused about who took our order. We had a coupon to redeem. Then she couldn't find our check ... oddly enough she just had it a few moments ago when she went to ask about how to redeem the coupon code ... and once again asked us who served us. When she got close enough so she could see the coupon code she clearly was drinking out of the flask as well. To pay our bill took 18 minutes. Then as we are walking out the door we notice the pie in the case is dated November 28 from Costco and we paid 6.99 for a slice to go which went straight to the trash. My boys brought me here for Mother's Day lunch, this was my second visit, their first. We had a fabulous time!!!! Unfortunately, we just missed breakfast, but I was still able to get a Mimosa. The staff is absolutely on point and very attentive, that speaks volumes because it was pretty busy. I ordered a taco salad, and every bite was absolutely delicious, the shell was full to the brim with goodness, salsa came on the side. The manager brought over a carnation and gave it to me in honor of Mother's Day, I thought that was incredibly sweet! It was totally unexpected. My boys truly enjoyed their meals, just as much as I enjoyed mine. They were completely intrigued by the interior decor, and it was fun to see their reactions. We stopped in after setting up our both upstairs. One of the owners are a sweet couple and so so friendly. They had karaoke which made it fun. I had the cod dinner and it was awesome. We are from the Midwest and have had a hard time finding a good beer batter fish fry. My husband had the Hatch green chili burger and also enjoyed his food. The burgers here are so flavorful. My son wanted a good burger after his tournament so we checked yelp for some good ratings and O.S.G. came up. At first glance it looks like a dive but those are the best finds. Inside had a great vibe with sports memorabilia on the walls where we sat. Service was great! Food was great! Just walked out of OSG - wished I could give zero stars...the absolute WORST service I have ever seen for a local place. Sat at our table for over 20 min, no acknowledgment, no drink order, no food order -- nothing. Yet tables seated after us had received their drink orders and had their food orders taken. When we walked out, the host raised her voice, loudly talked across the lobby, and said "we're short-handed - thank you" -- so unprofessional coming from the same person who had taken drink and food orders from tables around us that were seated after us. Walked out and took our business to another local restaurant who actually cares about customer service. Old School Grub is a mom & pop joint located in the old Ruby Tuesday's spot in the Superstition Springs Mall. The decor is vintage chotchkies, and boy, there are a ton! Everything about the place is comfort nostalgia. I swear that everyone, customers and employees, were singing along to the tunes that played throughout the place. Then at noon, Chuck Peterson and his Strat arrived for some live tunes. Sundays are bloody mary bar days, but they're not my thing. However, they had a mimosa flight for $9.99, which was three mimosas of your choice. Mr. P and I split the first three: peach, prickly berry and pomegranate. Super tasty. There was a dessert bar with servers of tasty looking cakes and confections on top. I eyed a coconut cream pie, but my diet couldn't let me do it! I ordered the charcuterie board. All out. (They just opened for the day.) I ordered an aloha burger with no bun and cottage cheese as the side for an extra $2. The aloha was a burger patty with BBQ sauce, gouda, ham and a pineapple slice. Mr. P ordered the Philly with tots and ranch. The have Pepsi products here. The food took so long that we may have had another flight of mimosas, this time raspberry along with the prickly berry and pomegranate. There were three other occupied tables. The burger was actually really good. Would have been better if there was BBQ sauce on it as advertised. And out of cottage cheese. I only noticed after we already paid that I was still charged for it. Mr. P said his Philly was excellent, but his ranch never arrived either. From reading other reviews, I'm guessing that they haven't gotten the hang of adequate ordering yet, because they're always out of things, despite the time of day. The owners Frank & Carlotta were present throughout the business, and they were actually visually familiar to us from patronizing a restaurant in AJ. They never stopped by any of the tables, which is fine, but at a mom & pop, it's always a nice hometown touch. We would try this place again, but we were disappointed by the inattention to our meals and bill. Our server was very friendly, but I was bummed out. But please, do buy local. What a huge disappointment. We were so excited to watch the steeler game at this new steeler restaurant with a nice full bar. Turns out they don't have the sports package so no steeler football at the steelers bar! We decided to we might as well eat, the homemade corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy sounded pretty good. Yeah, my corned beef hash clearly came out of a can. Total rip off. The gravy was pretty bland and I wouldn't be surprised if it came out of a jar. My fiancé and I decided to go to this restaurant on a Sunday. The choice was my idea and he likes good food as much as I do so we both decided it would be a great idea. When we walked into the restaurant we could see they were busy, so we expected a wait. The reason for the three stars is due to the fact that several people who worked there were near the hostess area, but no one opened their mouths to say "welcome" or "someone will be with you momentarily". It was if all the patrons who decided to visit the establishment were invisible. Finally a young woman with a sweet smile and braces on her teeth asked if we had been helped. I informed her we had not. She told us it would be a 10 minute wait and I told her that was fine. We were finally seated and the waitress came to our table to tell us it would be a minute and she would be back to get our drink order. I know everyone and every place is short-staffed and employees get tired, but the waitress acted like we were an annoyance. The waitress arrived back at the table and took our drink order. I had my mouth set on a chocolate milkshake and my guy ordered a coffee. Soon after a man (one of the ones who didn't even acknowledge our entry into the restaurant) informed me they were out of chocolate and asked if strawberry or vanilla would be okay. I work in sales and I understand it's harder to get the supplies you need to please your customer so I told him strawberry would be fine. Well about 3 minutes later I was delivered a "chocolate" shake. It seems they had chocolate ice cream to make the shake. I was not impressed in the least. It was watered down and had a taste like chalk. Definitely not worth $4.99. We ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs that my guy seemed to enjoy. And I ordered the patty melt with fries. The patty melt was delicious. The fries are flavorless crinkle cut fries. Not good in my opinion. I don't think the waitress checked to see if my guy needed coffee except one time. They have a NOW HIRING sign and they are a bit understaffed. However, if more people there worked as a team then being short-staffed would not be such a huge issue. I may or may not return. No, just no. I had the biscuits and gravy with over-medium eggs. The eggs were not over-medium, not even over-easy , they had watery, viscous, mucousy egg whites. The biscuits were good but the gravy was bland and had a weird taste - of course, having it served lukewarm might have had something to do with it. The sausage had a very weird texture. My partner had the Frito Pie - sounds so cute. This was also served lukewarm and had obviously been sitting for a while as the Fritos were so, so soggy. But what makes me want to call the HEALTH DEPT. was the waitress eating her fries standing at the counter, LICKING HER FINGERS and then immediately serving food. YUCK! I know you are thinking, but it's in the mall.... oh, but they have a nice tucked away patio for people watching and it is angled to where you aren't baking in the sun. Inside is just as nice with plenty of seating. Vicky was our waitress and just as nice and informative as you could hope for. Now for the food.... OMG it was so good. I was blown away by the toast. They have their own baker for their bread. The biscuits were light and fluffy, green chile was hatch and the fruit plate was very nice. As far as the food, it doesn't seem as good as before when they were located inside Superstition Springs Mall. Old School Grub recently opened a brick n mortar location at Superstition Springs Mall in Mesa. Originally starting as a very popular food truck this amazing duo, Frank & Carlotta, are proving they can also handle a restaurant! Food prices are very reasonable and there were also several specials to choose from. I tried the fried fish (it was Friday) and my wife had a burger. The portions were perfect and everything tasted fresh and then......."it" happened!?!?!!! What is "it"? - Well let me tell you........ "It" is Frank, one of the owners. He stopped by our table and asked how everything was going and suddenly he and my wife and i got wrapped up into laughter and conversation like we were family. Frank made us both seem like we had known him forever. You will feel his passion for food as he talks with you and describes the menu and restaurant ideas he has. We were getting ready to eat dessert and Frank told us he'd be right back. A few minutes later he came out with a pot roast type dish that he said was a future menu idea he was working on - WOW!
