The service was great. The sub options were original and well thought out. They offered many options for vegetarian and vegans also. They did have a menu for kids. I took pictures of the options for the Gilbert Rd location. I hope it helps you plan your experience. The atmosphere was perfect and we ate in the restaurant. It was very clean and plentiful seating. Perfect for eating on the go! Every Ike's restaurant has different subs. If you like a sandwich at one shop they will make it at another if you know what's on it. Menu is poorly organized. The sauce that comes with the sandwiches isn't clear it comes on all of them, unless you notice it on the top of the "Sides" part of their menu. So, no where near the actual lists of sandwiches. Service was uninterested in being there and not very helpful. read more

For a chain restaurant, you can count on Ike's to deliver an amazing sandwich each time. If you are coming here to eat, get the Dutch crunch bread. It's the standard- I haven't gone wrong with any sandwich that I have ordered, but my favs are. Paul Reuben - Pastrami style sandwich Damon Bruce -- a steak sandwich with onion rings. note -- the sauces that come with the sandwiches can be "rich", so I usually always get lettuce and pickles with the sandwiches to cut the richness. Before we get too far: Dutch Crunch bread. Always. No question. Just do it. This place is high-risk for me. First of all, their menu is HUUUGE, so I am pretty certain that I would never make it through all of the items on it. Second, there are so many sandwiches that I have tried that I enjoy... that I want to get them again! Some of the locations are a bit sketchy, but this one seemed cleaner than most. There was a line, which tells me that other people have either felt the "love" or had heard about it. My suggestion for your first visit is to look at the sign for first-timers. All of those sandwiches are fantastic, except the 301 and 70... (I don't know about those since I haven't made it to the vegan section.) Of those, though, the 91 (Paul Reuben -- no, there is no "s," which I feel is important for... reasons ) and 111 (Menage a Trois) are two of my favorites. Note, the sandwiches are big enough to share with a friend. (I don't have any friends, so I don't have to fight for the second half of my sandwich) But, if you've got someone to go Dutch, you can share the cost since they're both large and not quite inexpensive. I lived in the Bay Area for a longest time I knew about Ike's and finally had a chance to eat there. The dirty sauce is one of a kind. I usually get the steak sandwiches. The Hollywood is amazing. Delicious! I ordered the Hunter Pence and it was so tasty (Turkey, Bacon, Avocado, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, Swiss, cheddar, pepper jack, and added lettuce to it)! I loved it! Well, maybe it's user error. I'm not a vegan. So what did I do? Order the vegan chicken nuggets. They piqued my interest. Do they taste like real chicken? How juicy are they? Total fail. These nuggets tasted like what I think those pink erasers would taste like. Thin but somehow chewy, flavorless. The sauces I got on the side were pretty good, so +1 star. Legit sandwich spot that will cha get your life with their Dutch crunch bread. Full transparency, I've eaten at Ike's at least a dozen times and always get their Paul Ruebens sandwich, with vegan dirty sauce and vegan cheese (due to my lovely dairy allergy). This sandwich is so good. Drove by this restaurant on the hunt for Halloween decor, and it was I pleasantly surprised at how clean it and modernized it was inside. This was comparing it to the original shop in SF that I drove out of my way to go to waaayyy back in the day. Service was bad and didn't make both of the sandwiches we ordered. My wife ended up leaving with just one overpriced sandwich. The "Dirty Reuben" we got was terrible. Both the bread and the dressing make it sweet and gross mess. Perhaps if you like a sweet messy sandwiches this would be for you but i thought it was terrible. Ike's had just opened yet another location in AZ!!! Today's visit was their official Grand Opening for the Gilbert location. I've been to their locations in Mesa, Phoenix, Avondale and Queen Creek. The shop originated in San Francisco, and is still privately owned (not a franchise). There is something for EVERYONE AND ANYONE at Ike's. The menu Is EXTENSIVE - steak, roast beef, pastrami, chicken, tuna, FRIED chicken, ham, Turkey... and lots of vegetarian options!! So many sandwich combos that it can be a bit overwhelming to choose. Every sandwich comes with dirty sauce, which is a garlic aioli spread that goes on your bread before being toasted, but you can opt to omit it from your sandwich. You can omit and sub ingredients from any sandwich. I went into the shop yesterday for lunch at around 1:30pm, the day before the Grand opening. It wasn't very busy. But the restaurant was clean, staff pleasant, and they accommodated my order for a sandwich with bread, in a bowl. I learned about the Grand Opening today, and was there early enough to get a free t-shirt and sandwich. There was quite a hefty line out there!! Great to see the support and excitement for the business. They are well known for their Dutch Crunch bread. It's my favorite and recommend it. The first sandwich I ever had at Ike's was the Ménage a Trois, so I get that often. But I've also have the Paul Reuben (which I got today), the Damon Bruce, Name of the Girl I'm Dating. Sandwiches here are good, no complaints about that. Only eaten at this location once. My go-to's are the Adam Rich man and the Matt Cain on the dutch bread. I had the Adam Richmond here and it was good and filling. My girlfriend had the Barry Bonds on sourdough and she was all about it. It was over $30 something with a tip. I think it was a little pricey for the sandwiches, but they were good. We're willing to come back when the mood hits right. Think of it as an alternative to Cheba Hut. read more

Normally a big fan of Ikes we had a dissoointing recent experience. I love that they have gluten free options and so many different sandwhiches. My husband got his favorite the matt Cain and I got my favorite the hunter pence on gluten free bread. I requested no cheese and to my surprise it came with cheese and almost like a cheddar cheese that doesn't event come with that sandwhich. It also had really burnt gluten free bread, which, between that and the cheese I could not enjoy the bread. I submitted feedback right away since I am.not able.to eat cheese but never heard back. We were super excited to try this place because of all the options! The restaurant walking in is very clean, open and is not overwhelming at all. The way they showcase all the sandwiches makes it super easy to order! It took about 15 minutes for our sandwich which was totally fine with us because they have so many toppings and only 2 employees. We got the number 18 (Matt cain) with their signature bread. With all the toppings we were really hoping for it to be flavorful. The sandwiches are very big and you could easily share with someone they definitely do not skip on any meat. Personally we felt like it did not have much flavor. The only thing we could really taste is the onion we added to it. The bread tasted a little stale. I like this very much, much better than the other subs. I had the Menage minus pepper jack cheese. The chicken is moist and BBQ sauce Mild, can actually taste the honey. All sandwiches are the same size as far as I could tell, no small, med or large. Only about 6 tables, service was good, nice kids. If this was in my town I would go again. AND straws are paper! I love Ike's. I was super happy to have one open close to our home. This is the second time coming to this location in a few weeks. The first time hubby & I dinned in & everything was perfect. Yesterday we introduced Ike's to our kids. I ordered online for hubby to pick up. 4 sandwiches & a small bag of chips. You can't order the larger voodoo chips online, so I asked hubby to gave some when he picked up the order. I always get the Tillman. I was disappointed. Hubby got home & the small chips I ordered was missing. I ordered extra dirty sauce on all 4 sandwiches. 3 out of 4 sandwiches did not have extra dirty sauce. The 1 sandwich only had extra on one half of the sandwich. Not only was there not extra dirty sauce on 3 of the sandwiches, there was less dirty sauce than you normally get. Poor execution, and disappointment for almost $80. It's pricey, but the quality of ingredients are high & the sandwiches are huge. My daughter and I can only eat half at a time, so it's two meals for us. I've always gotten the Dutch crunch until this time. Both hubby & I tried the sourdough this time. We both liked the sourdough better than the Dutch crunch which really surprised me. We will give it a break for awhile, but will be back again. read more

First off, I'm a HUGE sandwich guy. I LOVE a good sandwich...I consider myself a real sandwich expert. So when I saw a new sandwich spot opened up, I was excited. I can tell a LOT about a place by how they make a traditional club...Turkey, ham, bacon, and cheese. And that should have been my first red flag....there isn't a traditional club on the menu. So after talking to the nice young lady, she suggested doing a Barry Bonds, add ham. That should have been another red flag...naming a sandwich after a huge cheater. I told her that I'm a Mayo guy, but she said go for the dirty sauce, I'll love it. Well, after paying $19....yes, you read that right...$19 for a sandwich, chips, and a drink...I took the bag home and settled in to try the new offering. First look and I'll just say...I wasn't blown away. But I withhold judgement until after I bite. First bite...kinda a weird texture on the "special" bread they're famous for. Not the crunch I was expecting. And then...what's that? Something seems like it's missing. Open up the and what do I see? Turkey and 2 tiny, soggy pieces of bacon. Where's the rest of the pig I paid extra for?? No ham to be seen. And the dirty sauce....meh. Maybe I'm too plain of a guy...Mayo woulda been fine. All in all, not impressed and won't return. I can LITERALLY make a sandwich with ingredients purchased from Walmart across the street for less than half what I paid for this thing, and it would include everything I want and pay for, and it'll taste 10 times better. And that's the gauge of a good restaurant, no? I go eat at places that can make things better than I make myself. Ike, you're welcome to come to my house and I'll make you a REAL sandwich that will blow away what I received today. Hello! It's not often I wake up and post a review but I felt compelled to. My daughter and I picked up a Jamba Juice last night and we were on our way to get some chipotle after, both were right next door on opposite sides of Ike's. I'm so glad we happened to walk by! There was a couple raving about their sandwiches at a patio table so I stopped to look at the menu from outside which was very easy to see. I looked up at their sign and it was an Ike's, I haven't seen one in over 7 years and that was in California! After 5 minutes of looking over the menu again, we decided sandwich's it is. I just have to say we will be back, probably this week lol! My daughter had the Jim Rome and I had the Backstabber both on Dutch crunch, Your Dutch Crunch Bread Was Perfect!!!! We absolutely loved the creativity with the sandwich names and overall decor from a high end sandwich shop. Now the icing on the cake was the incredible service we received, especially after walking in 10 mins before they close. I didn't catch their names but a young lady took our order and also a young gentleman that made our sandwich's. We received smiles from start to finish even after I asked them to put my sauces on the side after the sandwich's were in the process of being made. My 16 year old made it a point to say they looked happy and had great smiles while working! We've liked Ike's in 3-4 previous visits, but not today. I got a Paul Reuben as I always have before; half the sandwich had like one slice of pastrami with veggies and dirty sauce. Though the other half had more, that is not satisfactory. My wife's #9 (chicken with avocado) sandwich was even worse. An acceptable amount of chicken was placed only on 1/2 of her sandwich and it had so much mayo (or whatever it was) that it was more like soup. Very unlike Ike! I brought this to the attention of the young man. He offered to remake the #9 (I didn't even complain about mine but, because mine was a Happy Birthday reward) but, as I explained to the young fellow, my wife had lost her appetite and, moreover, getting our order took so long I was running late for a medical (iron infusion) appointment. So when I said that remaking it wasn't a good option, he told me they were slammed. Seeing how hard he was working (and he seemed to be teamed with an old lady in serious need of training) I felt sorry for him and just walked away. Of all the sandwich shops we frequent, Ike's is among the most expensive (by aLOT) so, even giving credit for the young man's conscientious efforts, I feel we should have been offered a refund, or at least coupons for 2 sandwiches and a drink. With him being so stressed, and our need to leave, we couldn't hang around to let him do the right thing, and I have zero doubt he would have done his best to do just that. This is fairly straightforward. If you want over 50 different sandwich options, including 20 vegetarian items and don't mind paying about $17 for an 8" sub, this is the place to go. I literally watched 3 people while I was eating, come in, look at the menu from 30sec to 5 min, and walk out. Another guy took 7 min and decided to order. It was entertaining to track while I was eating. The sandwich is very good! Not as good as a hot meal at a restaurant for the same money, but it was definitely not a bad meal taste wise. Hailed as "San Francisco's favorite sandwich place" apparently they didn't do any research to find out the income discrepancies. After tax and "tip" paying over $17 is crazy. About the tip, they don't even bring the sandwich to you even if you're the only person in there and yet when you pay it gives options for around 20%. You are making plenty off a $17 sandwich, even with inflated food costs, to pay the people who never leave behind the counter. read more

(1) TEMPE LOCATION= Not good, terribly-made sandwich, Service a joke - Ambiance Dirty. (2) GILBERT LOCATION - TERRIFIC ALL AROUND, FOOD, SERVICE & AMBIANCE. MY REVIEW: Great place at the GILBERT LOCATION. So pleasantly surprised at ordering a tuna sandwich (not sure what number it was on the wall menu). When I opened it was hefty, round in whole wheat bread. it was cut in half, and I could see a reddish color in the tuna probably from sauce and the grilled tomatoes which were so tasty. I could only eat half of it and took the other half home to eat it later. I ate the remaining half and it was still delicious. I could not stop talking about how I had finally found a place that made a great tuna sandwich. I ate the entire thing, not a morsel left. I still had a lingering taste in my mouth for a while. The next day I decided to go to another location closer to my place in TEMPE (Rural Rd). There were RED FLAGS for me but I was there already and thought I would give it a try. My item was not in the wall menu. I had to ask if they made it. I specified the cheese and the grilled tomatoes with my tuna nothing else (just like at Gilbert location). While I waited I noticed a big fly moving around and a trash can by the entrance. The floors around me were dirty, and towards tables and chairs, pieces of food here and there. As I was looking around to see if there were more flies I managed to see something moving and it was a silverfish big which sadly I had to squish it. When I got home I opened the sandwich and it seemed flat nothing full or round. It looked almost white in some areas and pink in others. There were no grilled tomatoes, just 3 thick cut slices of tomato. As I took my first bite, lots of tuna were oozing out of the entire bread on both sides of each half. I felt like I was eating cereal spread on bread. I took out the 3 slices and noticed very little tuna in the sandwich and most of it was stuck on the bread which I had to scrape to eat the tuna. The bread was super moist and simply could not eat it. While the Gilbert was eaten in its entirety, the one in TEMPE was a mess. I took a picture to show the Gilbert staff what I had to put up with at Tempe location. For $12 I expected better and since the Gilbert location made a terrific sandwich the one in Tempe did not. I have eaten at the MESA location - it was a good place but I have not been there in 3 years since I now reside in Chandler. If you still want to eat a good sandwich, go to the one at GILBERT AZ location, otherwise you'd be paying for TEMPE's version of JIMMY JOHN's which has gone down in quality, service, etc. I am dissappointed, a bit pissed off. I was hungry and expected a full well-made sandwich. I am not satisfied nor full. Nex time, I will have to drive 20 miles to the GILBERT location, but I won't mind paying the $12.00+ and my stomach will be satisfied with the ingredients, the taste, the size, etc., or what I now call "The NO MORSEL left after I eat my sandwich at IKE's GILBERT."
