I was working on a project when my computer suddenly wouldn't come out of sleep mode (AKA it was dead). I tried taking it to an Apple Store, but they couldn't help me and said it could take weeks to send it out for service. On top of that, they also informed me that I might lose all of my data if I hadn't backed up my system lately. Of course, as luck would have it, I hadn't. So I started searching for somewhere that could do data recovery as well as repairs. I reached out to multiple locations before finding The Mac Studio. I was super nervous about leaving my computer with them, but Anthony assured me that he could fix my computer and save my data. On top of that, he said he could get it back to me quickly. He kept his word and had my computer repaired, and data restored the very next day. I took my old (circa 2012) MacBook Air in to fix what I thought was an issue with the trackpad. Turns out I desperately needed a new battery, which was swollen and pushing on the trackpad. I even got an upgraded battery since a newer, longer-lasting battery fit this old computer, and some great tips on keeping my computer working well. I had been thinking about getting rid of it but the guy told me this was one of the best MacBook Air models Apple made, based on the component parts used, and to hang onto it since it would last me a really long time. So now I feel really good about investing in a new battery for my really old computer. He also cleaned my computer, inside and out, before returning it to me. The entire repair only took about an hour, which was amazing. I barely had time to find a place for lunch on Abbot Kinney before I got the text that it was ready for pickup. Fantastic service; everyone was super nice and accommodating about changing my appointment time because of my schedule. FYI, the shop is in the back of a clothing/retail shop. I recently went to another Mac repair shop for convenience but had a bad experience. Lesson learned: I'm taking all my Apple issues to get fixed here!!! Thanks!!! read more

When my MacBook monitor died while I was visiting my brother in Florida, I took it to three places there that were unable to resolve the problem (including a Mac Genius Bar, which sent it off for servicing ... and the computer was then shipped back to me unrepaired). So here's what happened: I was halfway through my cup of noodles with a touch of Tapatio when I spilt it onto my laptop. My screen automatically turned off and I knew I was in trouble. I knew better than to call apple because of all the horror stories of them being super expensive. So then I looked on Yelp and found The Mac Studio! I decided to take my laptop in and was met by Anthony who was extremely helpful. He looked at it that same day and explained to me what happened, what could possibly be wrong, what outcomes to expect, and gave me a price if I should decide to fix it after the inspection. I then left my laptop with him, he thoroughly looked at it, and then I received a text saying it passed. So yes, the computer was fixable! The next steps were easy, I gave the ok to fix my laptop and the next day it was ready! Again he explained to me what he did, gave me some pointers on how to keep my battery healthy, and then I finally paid the estimate he gave me previously. Computers are like cars. If you don't know anything about them you feel vulnerable to the technicians. Woke up one morning and tried to turn on my laptop. It was blinking the folder with a ? Was on the phone with Apple Support for 90 mins trying to fix the problem. Finally they told me to take it in to an authorized provider that could potentially recover my hard drive. I was in a bit of a panic because I had a big presentation on my computer. Everywhere I called tried to charge me anywhere from $40-$150 for a diagnostic (repair not included) and no one could take a look at it same day. I called the Mac Studio, they set up an in-person appointment that day with Anthony. Walked in, he asked a few questions, opened it up, and while he was working on the diagnostic, he was just talking me through his process and why he was checking certain parts. This was a first. Many times in the past, people just disappear with my computer and they could come back and tell me any old reason as to what's wrong with it. Most times, you just have to believe them. Long story short, in about 10 mins he revealed to me that that last time I had gotten my keyboard fix (at the actual Apple store, mind you), the person that reassembled it, did a poor job and a very discreet loose screw was touching another part of my hard drive which was causing the problem. My computer was bricked due to a loose screw....again, imagine if he felt like he wanted to turn out my pocket books with any made up reason. In addition to the 15 mins he spent diagnosing the computer he then told me it was completely free! I still ended up paying for his time because that is the REAL service you are paying for. If you are computer hardware illiterate (like me) and are looking for an honest, knowledgeable technician, Anthony is your guy. Their studio is equipped to do everything from simple refreshes to circuit board soldering. While I wasn't happy that my computer broke, I was extremely excited that it led me to find my new go-to computer repair spot in Los Angeles. Don't ever go to the Apple Store or any of the places they tell you to go. Bring your computer here. You won't regret it. PS. Seeing as I have hardly any computer skills, I knew I'd have to bring it in to a professional. Anthony is a genius & a lifesaver! After spilling a little water on the corner of my MacBook Air, the Apple Store told me it would be a min of $750 to repair - without even looking at my computer. Everything was working find except for the sound. So luckily, I found The Mac Studio right on Abbot Kinney in my neighborhood. It's inside the Huset store. Anthony was super honest & up front about his process to look into my Mac issue. He said it would be around $250. Not $750! That's ridiculous, Apple! So he fixed it over the wkend & I had it back in my hand working like new on Monday! I spilled water on my 2015 macbook pro, my first instinct was to go to the Apple store and they told me they have to replace everything for $1,500 and they would also have to delete all my files. I told the "genius" that I'm simply not at a place to drop $1,500 but he proceeded to explain to me I have a few weeks to get $1,500 and told me "good luck finding the money!" So fuck that. So I looked for a nearby computer repair store and I found the Mac Studio here on Yelp. I brought my laptop to the little shop inside Husset. Anthony gave me an estimate within a day and it was less than half of what Apple told me to pay! So of course I let him fix my laptop and he did it within a week. I came back to pick up my laptop and found all of my files miraculously still in there! I asked him if I could use the 10% off coupon on Yelp. I didn't realize that it was replaced by the free diagnostic (supposed to be $50), but Anthony still applied the discount to my logic board replacement fee on top of the free diagnostics! I brought my 2019 iMac to The Mac Studio last month to have the RAM upgraded and hard drive changed to SSD. I normally do my own upgrades, but this iMac model is different and requires completely disassembling the computer, which I was not comfortable with. I searched Yelp extensively and contacted about 8 different "mac specialists" and none felt even comfortable touching my computer. I sent initial request via Yelp to The Mac Studio and Anthony responded to me within 5 minutes (at 10:30 pm!). Although they are only open Mon-Fri, Anthony came in on a Saturday morning to accommodate my schedule. The repair was done within 2 days. Again, Anthony came in on his day off to open for me to pick up the iMac. Price was incredibly reasonable. I haven't had Anthony service any of my Apple items yet, but he did recently help me in a big way. I ordered an antenna flex cable from ifixit that turned out to be defective. The Mac Studio had it in stock at a very reasonable price. Also, he was very friendly and knowledgable. He also made sure I knew not to put the wrong screws in the wrong places since that would kill my logic board. Just based off this interaction, I wouldn't hesitate to bring any of my troublesome Apple products to him. And yes, I managed to eventually fix my phone.
