I hate technology and I despise having to visit a cell phone outlet so when I needed to change my SIM card with SPRINT to T-Mobile I thought it would be a good time to look into repairing my current phone or simply purchasing a new one. The current phone I purchased in Las Vegas right at the start of COVID after I lost my phone at a tradeshow. I was also roped into buying a tablet which I never use and my bill skyrocketed between making payments on the new phone as well as multiple lines, etc. It was a typical cell phone rip-off. I visited the T-Mobile on Wilshire Blvd off Third and was greeted to an empty store of sales associates looking to sell someone something. The girl who was "helping me" was intent in convincing to just purchase a new phone for another $50 per month for two years and she said I had no insurance which was strange as well. I decided to leave and see what can be done to fix what I have since two years old is not ancient and it was in disrepair physically because I neglected the device. The actual cost of a new phone with interest was like $1200 and I just don't trust these people who work in phone stores. They act like used car sales people and need to be avoided at all costs. I visited one repair shop which wanted to charge me over $400 which sounded insane so I decided to visit the DROP SMASH FIX location at 1708 Ocean Park Boulevard and I'm glad I did! I had gotten an estimate for the same work here which was roughly $270 and once a part arrived it could take two hours to repair. While the part took a couple of days, I couldn't be happier and satisfied in avoiding that hell known as T-MOBILE and the people at DROP SMASH FIX were competent, friendly and willing to help me without trying to rip me off! It was a seamless process and I'm actually shocked how well things went! My phone appears brand new with the glass replaced on both sides as well as the side button was fixed and replaced. The phone is working great and they even replaced the SIM card for me. I could not be happier and my monthly cell bill will remain the same as there was no need to purchase yet another phone. The replacement screen on my phone was riddled with sensitivity issues where I didn't even have to touch the screen for it to detect an action. Had it not been for the fact that I had little time to turn the phone back into the carrier (with a working/flawless screen) I'd have asked them to fix it, but time didn't allow that. Disclaimer: I didn't get my phone fixed by them. I requested a quote to fix a phone with a cracked screen. Their quote was significantly more than the price from other companies, but they said in the message that they match other companies' prices. I was a couple blocks away so I stopped in to drop off my phone. Unfortunately, once I got there, they told me that they couldn't match the other company's price. Felt like a hustle. On rainy day, the door was open to the shop. I entered, asked for someone to help me. Immediately upon contact, the worker informed me that he does not allow people in the shop as per covid guidelines. So, I was asked to stand out in the rain in order to prevent the spread of covid. He was rude and condescending throughout the transaction in a passive aggressive way. I simply wanted my phone and it was a very simple and quick business transaction. It would have been nice if I could have stayed inside while it was raining. I asked him if he was preventing the spread of covid by making people stand outside in the cold and rain. He had no answer for me but that there were rules and guidelines in place and that he could not violate them. I would suggest to the owners of DropSmashFix that they may be wise to revise their rules and guidelines when it's cold and raining. Because this one makes absolutely no sense, in fact it's an insult to science and to the customers who are paying money to your business. read more

1/27 we were told they did have the front glass for a Galaxy S9, so the part was ordered. Part was supposed to be there 1/29 and they would call latest 2/2 They did not call us so we called on 2/3, they said the part would be in on 2/4. We called to double check on 2/4 and they said they did not have the part, but said it would be here on 2/5 and they said they would call us, but they did not. We called them 2/10 and they said the part will be in on 2/11 by 1pm and they would call... 2/11 we called them and the part was in. 2/12 the phone was dropped off dropped off, we received a call a few hours latter, the part they ordered was not acceptable and had to be reordered., the new part would be in on 2/13 and they would call 2/13 they did not call by 2;30 so we called mail box full, called again 3pm they answered,, the part was in 2/14 we brought in the phone it was repaired within 1.5 hrs. I never write Yelp reviews, but I feel compelled to do so now. About a year ago, I took in my iPad Pro 9.7" because the screen was broken. I understood the ridiculous costs, but I just needed to replace the screen. I put down a deposit and left my completely uncharged and dead device. Ultimately, I received a call saying that during the removal process, the device began to smoke and was essentially dead. Understandable as I knew the risks (though I do not quite understand why the device was on with any kind of electrical charge during the removal process, which would be the only reason for "smoking"), I was calm. They were kind enough to offer a solution to order a new one for me as a replacement instead, and I would not have to pay off the remaining balance. I took the offer and awaited my replacement. Several weeks went by (extremely long wait), and I finally received the new device. However, it was completely the wrong storage size -- I do not know if this was intentional or not, but to mistake a 256GB device for a 32GB device seems ridiculously inept or intentionally fraudulent and swindling. After a ton of back and forth with the employees, eventually, "Joe," the owner, offered me a complete refund of my deposit along with the new device. I finally received my new iPad Pro 9.7" but never received my refund. I was told by the employees to contact Joe. I called several times (and left voicemails), and he never answered or called back. I sent two emails with no response. I gave up as I needed to move on with my life. I had been going back and forth with these people for over a month. In that time of waiting, I had traveled to Poland and Singapore and back! After using it for a few days, I noticed that there were some seemingly dead pixels, only noticeable when using the Apple Pencil. I am assuming I received some used iPad Pro with a cheap replacement glass, probably not even properly seated or the digitizer is messed up or something, I don't know. I could not draw over those specific points, but I was too annoyed with DropSmashFix and decided it's something that I'll have to accept. Over time, the dead pixels began to expand and took over a large vertical line throughout the screen. After two months, I started to get ghost touches, and the screen would not stay still. It would close out of apps, zoom in and out, and would just overall be spastic. I still have the same issue, and I no longer use my device as it is unreliable. All in all, it took me well over a month to receive a faulty replacement. My original device was destroyed by incompetent workers. The customer service was slow and atrocious as if there was no employee management. I was promised a refund by the owner himself and was ghosted at the end. The one good thing was their quick yelp reply when I asked them a question about how much it would cost to replace my screen before I began any transaction. Please, please, please do not take your device to this place. I don't know why it has such a high rating. There are better repair places nearby. read more

But several minutes after handing over my phone, the technician came out and said the port just needed cleaning--for $15. Slowly people started to leave because they had to get to work and store is supposed to be open at 9am, but there is no employee in sight. Very prompt service and the staff is great, however they do not use genuine apple products. The screen resolution was grainy and failed at colder temperatures outside. The touch recognition led to accidental dials and mutes. I subsequently had the screen repaired (after another dumb drop) through insurance which used genuine apple products and none of these issues arose. You get what you pay for (unless insured). Upon checking in, was simply told by the Rude Drop Smash Fix Employee on the phone, that my iPhone was a "no fix" with no other explanation and was point blank lied to re: them calling me several times me to inform me to pick up the phone. When I asked why I didn't recieve any of those calls or a voicemail or email, was just told, "that's weird." Also just generally not a nice place and not staffed by friendly people. Do not take your iPhones here. Not only are the screens that they put on the phone not under warranty by Apple, the work they do here is shoddy. After an annoying experience of making an appointment and showing up to them not having a screen for me I came back a few days later after having to purchase the screen and advance of the repair of my iPhone 11 Pro. I received my phone after an hour of repair went home and a few hours later and noticed the corner of my screen was wide open and I could see the inside of my phone. After that my phone turned on and off about 20 times and then shut down for the entire evening. When I showed back up the next morning to get it looked at and fixed I was met with attitude and disbelief because of course Murphy's Law my phone turned on when I showed up. I waited outside while they fixed my phone, put on a new screen and "tested" the device. I was told that everything will be fine and they had no clue what had happened with the previous screen. Now a week and a half later my phone turns black and shuts down randomly about twice a day and when I making a phone call the screen freezes so that I can't use the keypad. The only way I can hang up the phone calls is by using headphones. I contacted the company and told them that this issue was still going on and that I wanted a refund and their response was that they can either try another new screen or they can take back their screen put on a broken one and give me a refund. I do not understand this logic. I do not understand why the consequence of them breaking my phone is me still having a broken phone and no one paying the price for it. I know that I am going to get in trouble with Apple for replacing my screen by these people because they are not genuine Apple screens so now not only I have a broken phone I'm going to have to pay even more to deal with it. read more

I brought my Pixel 2 phone with a cracked screen to dropsmashfix in Santa Monica for repair. The phone had had a cracked screen for months but worked fine otherwise. When I picked it up, the screen was working, however, within hours it began to intermittently not respond to touch controls. I brought it back, and was told (after several weeks of delay) that the phone was no longer responding to touch controls at all and that there was no way for dropsmashfix to repair it or even get it back to the state it was before I brought it in. The phone never had any issue responding to touch controls until I brought it to dropsmashfix for repairs. (I used the phone with a cracked screen for months before bringing it in, so I know that this problem was unrelated to the cracked screen.) And, the problem began immediately after I picked it up from dropsmashfix. Based on that, it appears that what is causing the problem is something that dropsmashfix did during the repair itself, and not a pre-existing issue with the phone. Although the phone had a cracked screen, it was a working phone that had value and that I used for months, and that would have served as an adequate backup phone. Now, the phone has no value because the screen does not work at all, so it is impossible to control it. I requested that dropsmashfix provide me with the value of a pixel 2 with a cracked screen. They refused, and said they could not even give me a full refund (they would refund service but not parts). I should not have to pay dropsmashfix anything to break my phone for me. read more

They were very nice and didn't want any money for placing on the screen protector. I was very impressed with the service here. They took their time to make sure it was perfect. The thing that counts with a business is whether or not they will stand behind their services, and go the extra mile for you. Sadly, DropSmashFix did not. Having had a good experience with them the first time, I brought my phone in a second time for repairs about 2 weeks ago. I asked for the battery to be replaced, and the screen to be reglued to the frame (it was separated!). They did both things, and didn't charge me for the glue. Nice guys I thought, to not charge me for the glue service! Well, turns out that they did a poor job. Now it is 2 weeks later, and I noticed that the screen was coming off again. Then the phone got near my sweaty skin and . . . due to the screen being separated . . . that was enough to send it on the fritz. Deadzo. I went back, and asked them to please fix the issue, as it would not have happened if the screen was not peeling away again. They told me THEY WOULD NOT HELP BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WARRANTY THEIR WORK because I didnt pay for it. The irony is that I gladly would have paid for the glue service to have it done properly, and to have the phone under warranty. It was their offer to do the job for free! Now, what seemed like a nice gesture translates into me being SOL. Nor did they care that the job they did was obviously shoddy. They just said: "Not under warranty, not our problem" I am going to look for a phone repair business that feels like it cares more about their customers. This is not it. read more

I have had problems for three months with my lap top not recognizing my iPhone 6S to download photos or perform a back up. I've been on the phone with Apple support for hours trying to resolve it, including doing system diagnosis downloads for their engineering people to analyze. Ultimately they told me it was a hardware issue and I make an appointment to go to an Apple Store for possible repair. Apple charges a set price of $300 to repair out of warranty iPhones. Before I went to Apple I contacted DropSmashFix and they were open on a Sunday. Since I was traveling the next day, they did a rush repair for me and figured out the issue for $40 labor plus a $4 part. INCREDIBLE SERVICE. I'm thrilled with my repaired phone and save $250 by going to DropSmashFix. Plus with the global chip shortage, it is even more important to repair mobile phones than to buy new ones.
