(FYI - they are going to open a Goomo tea shop on the corner in the same space!) D'ange has so many fun flavors of buns. I really liked the taro with mochi one. The only thing about the buns is that the fillings tend to be only on one side of the bun, so there are been times as I'm biting into the bun, I'm not getting any filling until the last couple bites. They even sell cookies and all different flavors of toast that would make some yummy brick toast desserts! And if you need a whole cake, they have them in the case ready to go too! The buns I got were great, as were the Portuguese egg tarts. They even sold Chinese tamales at my last visit, so I picked one up too. I don't know many places that sell these, and I used to eat them all the time when my grandma made them years ago, but now that no one in my family knows how to make them, it's a special treat if I can find it. They have ones with meat (with or without peanuts), and some with just the mung bean. They must be really know for this because 2 other parties ahead of me were buying tons of the tamales!

TGTG is an app that allows businesses to sell their leftover or flawed goods for a discounted price in a bundle of their choice. So you don't know what you get, BUT it reduces food waste (#sustainability) while being easier on your wallet. You pay a price they name and they give you the value they listed. The owner (I presume) handed us a prepackaged brown bag the moment we got there. It wasn't busy at all so the whole transaction was under 5 minutes. It's a mom & pop Asian bakery that's spacious and warm. Our surprise bag contained 7 mini breads: black sesame mochi, red sesame mochi, taro bun with filling, hot dog cheese bread, buo luo bao, ham + cheese bun, and another bread I couldn't quite identify. This is $21 value for $6.99 is what we paid. After heating them up, they tasted almost like fresh so we can't complain. However, I would say these days $3 would get you bigger buns at other similar bakeries, but their fillings were very generous, so it's hard to say. Parking has spots designated to the bakery so look out for the signs.

And the hit of almond as you break into the center - so rich and delicious, especially with the fresh gigantic blueberries on top! I've eaten 2 of these and it's been hard to not eat it all in one setting. I haven't tried the fresh fruit custard tart, but I've shared it with some friends who had really good things to say about it. The caramel rose apple tart is another hit - if you like caramel and apple, you'll really love this. Not too sweet due to the tartness from the apples, but with the drizzle of caramel while eaten with the crust - perfect combination for that enticing bite. And don't forget macarons (6 for $10)! I've tried all the flavors and I think I liked the lemon ones the most because of the freshness and tanginess that I got from the macaron. I shared some of these treats with my grandma and she ended up really enjoying them because they weren't too sweet. There's a lot of items that she has - that bolo brioche roll, the breads, shaobing - that I really want to try! Probably the least sweet of the three we tried. -Reese's was good but a little overpowering on the peanut butter side. -The coconut is way too sweet. Reminded me of an almond joy without the almond. Cake is a little dry. Frosting helps balance it out but most of them are too sweet. Like how they're small in size so you can sample multiple if you desire without feeling too heavy. What began as a pandemic-time pop-up has since transitioned into a San Gabriel brick-and-mortar. Ish has garnered recognition from Vogue, the LA Times, and Thrillist, particularly for the one-of-a-kind, Filipino-ish pies and eye-catching purple pancakes; now, it's one of the trendiest bakeries in Greater Los Angeles. BWI has a stall in the Blossom Market Hall. Briefly, this premium San Gabriel food hall (opened in a former Masonic lodge) hosts two rooms of fast-casual food and beverages, broadly with a pan-Asian bent. The rainbow mosaic mural in the main room is almost pretty enough to make you forget the weak AC. Chatter from customers overwhelms the pop playlist. BWI just took over a larger stall in the main market space. The red-and-white logo and "menu board" offer a hint into the food lineup -- peek into the all-glass pastry case and pick what sounds good. Sometimes, the pies are in hiding, so don't be afraid to ask if any slices are available. The rotating pastry menu is a crapshoot. But if they're available, you must try one of the ube-infused pies. I loved the Ube Bananoffee Pie. This Filipino spin on bananoffee pie infused ube into its thick layer of dulce de leche, while otherwise executing the other components at a high level. The dynamic array of textures and flavors culminated in one of the region's best desserts, full stop. Meanwhile, the Blue Corn Mochi Pancakes were next level. The springy texture was addictive, and the sweet-and-salty combo of ube flan cream and flaky sea salt was a match made in heaven. Each enormous hotcake boasted the same diameter as one of Ish's full pies, so with two pancakes to an order, you could reasonably satisfy 4 hungry bellies. Other baked goods have been more hit-or-miss. For example, the Ube, Matcha, Black Sesame Bun (somewhere between a cinnamon roll and a sticky bun) paired airy, brioche-esque bread with a matcha-forward paste, but it otherwise felt like it was missing a syrupy sweetness. The service has always been efficient (don't be surprised if Ish himself gives you tips for how to best reheat a treat at home), and the baked goods range from $4 for cookies to $10 for pie slices to $17 for the pancake stack.
