STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS BUZZARD OF BUSINESS…read more i've been a customer for years and have had many other storage units/companies in the past, NONE have been as disreputable, dishonest and negligent as ANY cube"smart" facility - NO MATTER WHO THE "manager" is supposed to be. the FRAUDULENT policies come from the TOP down and the CEO; chris marr, clearly doesn't care about customers, employees or the law surrounding his company. it doesn't matter which facility, the one I hired is on Oakton St, in Skokie.

Hallways are clear, lights are motion censored, obvious climate controlled. Plenty of carts to use for your loads. Cons: America gave me a map of facility but such tiny print made it difficult to use. Simple reflective numbers as you round corners would be extremely helpful. The pad for access code, the hand sensor to open the door leaving, the elevator buttons, have all seen better days. America was busy in the facility and out of office when we arrived. The sign on door said 1245 return, almost hour and half later. Called the facility number, remote customer service bot, etc. America did call us about 20 mins later. Explained that when she is rounding, she can't be contacted by customer service (no beeper, cell, walkie-talkie) etc. That's an issue for customers needing assistance ie needing a lock cut off or someone needing a storage unit tour. My sister was clearing out her storage unit. We had movers scheduled. It was a smooth process after a rocky start. America is an asset to this facility.

They and their main and regional offices all responded extremely quickly to my complaint and wanted to make it right. That's very much appreciated. I think a great solution would be to not bury the fine print so far from the pricing but put a short notice below the pricing for each unit - simply that price is subject to change at anytime with 15 days notice. I certainly would've paused and considered other options. Original one star review: Bait and switch pricing. Increased my rent 65% after less than 3 months with only 20 days notice. You have to scroll down 6 pages to find the fine print that says they can change pricing at any time with 15 days notice. This is a summer storage unit for my daughter's dorm and we're not local so it wouldn't make sense for us to fly out and move to another facility. Will never do business with them again. Utterly ridiculous and shady business practice.

Moving can be stressful so it was great that they were very responsive via email to help us plan. Movers came on time, and were professional and careful with all of our stuff. They were very nice guys and very communicative. We have quite a few live plants and everything was moved without any harm. Their rate was reasonable and I liked that we were able to tip on Zelle instead of having to use cash. They also offer rentals for reusable / eco-friendly boxes in case you don't want to produce waste with paper boxes. Their owner Miro followed up a few days later with a phone call asking on our experience and if we had any issues. It was unexpected but positive to get a personal follow up too. Finding movers was a stressful experience especially wading through other places spotty reviews. I would recommend Hodgepodge to anyone for the next move.

It's never fun to have to leave a 1 star review, but we simply cannot recommend Foster Ravenswood…read moreSelf Storage. One, they don't have a secure way to take Credit Card information. You have to write down the full Credit Card number, the expiration date, and even the CVV on what looks like a badly photocopied piece of paper. When we had to change the card on file, we had to actually go to the office and complete another dodgy looking form, rather do it online, securely, through a website or an app. Surely having to write down your entire Credit Card number with expiration date and CVV is not PCI compliant (and yet I did it anyway). Two, they raised our rate immediately after signing up and then they raised it again shortly after that. We hadn't even had the unit for one year. Our original rate was $47/month when we joined in May, in July it was raised to $59/month, and then in November it was $65/month. Three, we attempted to access our storage unit outside of office hours a few times but the pin pad to get into the building was broken more often than it worked. The last time we went, our car was full of stuff but couldn't get in (again). This was deal breaker for us. Other things that were annoying: there is no dedicated parking, only street parking. The office and lobby area wreak of cigarette smoke. The storage unit itself was fine, but the floor was unfinished. When we went to say we were moving out, there were no questions asked. Just a "what is your unit number?" and "sign here" and "here's your move out receipt". Like ok, bye?

When signing up we had a quote for the amount of items and $60 for any pick up or drop off appointments. At some point during the time we stored with them they changed their policy so the appointment fee to drop off our things back to us after storage is $800! Its highly inconsiderate and unimaginable to have customers sign up for $60 fees and change that to $800 after the agreement was already made, and they have the customer's items. I cannot understand a change like that, and will be reaching out to their billing department to dispute this charge. Makespace is an efficient moving and storage combo company. The process of preparing made sense; we told the company what items we needed stored and they sent us bags so we can pack ahead of time.
