First, they give you one price and then constantly raise it on you as you stay longer to an amount that hurts, but not enough to hire movers to get you to another place. We sunk a lot into moving my mom's belongings into this place (many many antiques) b/c it was "climate controlled". We'd see water everywhere, which is a sign we should have moved out. When we finally moved everything out, the walls had mildew on them and ALL OF OUR FUNITURE did as well. I brought it up to the manager and she said you have private insurance and offered no apology. I spent roughly 14K to store my furniture there for several years. It shouldn't be my insurance's responsibility for their negligence and poor upkeep. Do not store your furniture here. Robert was amazing he helped me find the proper storage unit for my needs! Furthermore, he was extremely patient and showed me several spaces so I could decide on what works best for me. The hours are great you can access your space from early morning until late at night. My previous unit through Public Storage on Pulaski was not accommodating with time and they had maintenance issues. The inside of my unit at Lockup is immaculate and I see that they have excellent pest control. Time and care is put into keeping the entire property clean. When we refer to the 'good old days' it generally means honesty, integrity, fairness, easy going, exciting, not much convenience as much as convention, practical, friendly, generous...and that's what I found here. The space is clean and comfortable with indoor-outdoor carpeting. Not cold and hard like most storage places. They provide the locks instead of you having to pay for one as the storage places below will require. We visited Cubesmart's and Safeguard self storage and while Cubesmart had several viable options, their storage locations just didn't suit us. Safeguard Storage saw us and immediately jacked up the price though we were quoted a much lower rate from their Call Center. I can only imagine why they changed rates within 10 mins. It doesn't matter because my daughter is getting a steal of a deal from them and we found a place we can more than appreciate here at The Lockup Storage. read more

Today I went online to pay my bill and saw that they had raised my rent by a third without any notification. It went from $42 a month to $54 a month with no notice. That's ridiculous. I called them up and the site manager claimed that she had "mailed something out months ago". I reminded her that, when I signed up, one of the main reasons I had selected her facility was that they had online account management. Why had there been no notice in my online account? That was the only interaction I had with this company after moving my stuff in. She again reiterated that she "mailed something out". I'm sorry, but if you get my business by offering online services, you need to use those online services to keep my business. Unexpected rent increases are anathema to an honest business relationship. And when the increase is a third of the monthly cost that is simply insane. read more

Used this Lock-Up facility for three months and had a great experience. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! The units are very clean and well-kept and also have a various discounts, promotions that you can find online, making it one of the more cost-effective storage options. I ended my lease in the middle of the month, and had already prepaid for the full month. Before I even called, they had issued a refund for the second half of the month that I would not be a tenant - a great customer service move! She understands the rules and regulations, but she also tries very hard to accommodate and support the customer by finding him or her the best rate. I have been renting a storage unit for over a year. Today I went into my unit and found my belongings covered in white, green and black mold and rat feces everywhere. After 30 minutes I started to become very ill from breathing all the mold but was told by the manager that I had to take everything out of my storage area to take pictures and then I was suppose to put it all back because they had no other storage units available to remove me from has now become a bio-hazard of mold. I was so distraught I could not believe all the damage that was done. I then became very upset with the manager as I had asked her for the information for corporate and she told me I couldn't have it. The manager then further told me that she contacted her regional manager but that person was in downtown Chicago at an Expo and there was no one available to talk to me until tomorrow. In the meantime the same manager tells me that she cannot claim that what I have in my locker is mold and rat feces until the regional manager sees it and gives the ok saying it is just that. BUT that regional manager won't be available until tomorrow. When I asked several times to be relocated from this now contaminated unit at least temporarily until the regional manager is available, I was told by the manager that she does not have that authority to accommodate me so that the rest of my stuff would not get ruined. It became a very heated conversation as I was so frustrated when I was told that there are no higher ups to contact to help me. I then asked the manager what would happen if the storage building caught on fire, who would she call. The manager looked at me and said the same number I gave you for the regional manager but seeing she's in a meeting at an Expo I would have to leave her a message that the building is burning to the ground. I was in such disbelief, I was beside myself. In to this I contacted the local health department and building inspectors as my unit has visible water seepage from somewhere. I was just in my unit about 2 months ago and all was fine. Now most of my stuff is in the dumpster. Yet I still have heard back from no one. The treatment I received from the manager was beyond accepatable. After 5 hours of going through only half of my stuff and throwing a good portion of that away I had to just close up the unit and leave. I couldn't take breathing the mold anymore. So this is how a business is run and customers are treated? Mandatory insurance in the hope of tenants taking The Lock Up's insurance, which pays for nothing. One is better off leaving their stuff on the street.
