I used to order the mango salad all the time, but the last two times it's completely unripe and inedible. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time because it wasn't quite mango season (but take it off the menu if it's not ready?) but now it's summer so I don't get why they're still serving unripe mango. All the waiter's there were very nice and took our orders pretty quick. I order the rice combo, but instead of pork, I asked for the short ribs. So, much flavor!! We also ordered the steamed rice cakes, to share. Which was very good, we even had a few left over to bring home. Even though the food was good, it did cost a bit much. For my combo plate, it was about $25 and for the steamed rice cakes, that was $19. The only thing that we didn't get was water, instead the waiters gave us warm tea. He kept our tea glasses filled. I have been a fan of The Lemongrass when they were located near Seattle U on 12th Ave. It used to be my lunch spot when I worked close by since it was consistently good. I was sad to find out they closed, but hadn't realized they just moved to Renton! Fast forward to 2024, I stumbled upon The Lemongrass after I was hunting for a Vietnamese spot in Renton! I was pleasantly surprised to find them! They still had my all time favorite dishes: the Five Spice chicken (with soy sauce, the hubs likes the curry sauce) and Lemon Garlic Beef! The flavors are still the same, so I'm glad they didn't change the recipe! But I wish I didn't have to pay extra for rice, since rice is life! Every time we walk in, we get seated right away, and they immediately bring us water and menus. The food always comes out fresh and delicious. The service is amazing our server made sure our drinks were always refilled, and we never had to look around for him because he was already on top of everything. The ambiance is always nice, too. We got the grill pork chop combo, the grill pork chop was marinated with the perfect amount of fish sauce and a crunchy caramelized sugary finish. If you're looking for classic Vietnamese dishes beyond the normal Pho and vermicelli bowls then this is the place to visit. I've been here twice and both times I think the best dish is the Bun Rieu. Full to the brim with that delicious broth. A beautiful orange shrimp oil to hold in the heat. And a side of herbs to bring the crunch and freshness. I've also had their Mi Quang, the cracker was nice and savory, the sauce consistency was on the edge of curry like. The Bun Bo Hue could've been more spicy, but I appreciate that it didn't have a pig trotter. The Bun Xeo was shareable with 6 people and crispy. As I waited for my meal to be ready, one of the employees gave me a cup of tea. I found this incredibly hospitable with it being so rainy and cold out. My anti-bean sprout boyfriend and I come to the Lemongrass frequently for Vietnamese food, ever since a friend gave him a bean sprout-less spring roll from here. The Lemongrass is right off of the freeway which makes it a convenient dining spot in Renton. The menu is many pages long and includes your typical Pho and Bún as well as several traditional dishes that most other Vietnamese restaurants don't serve such as Mi Quang (yellow noodle soup), Bun Rieu (shrimp, egg, and tofu soup), and Banh Xeo (Vietnamese stuffed crepe). They also have vegetarian dishes available. Prices are competitive and average between $15-$20 per dish but the portions are generous and I never leave hungry. Of the many dishes I've tried here, I think their Pho is decent and their Bun Rieu is good if you like tomato hot pot and want to try something different other than pho. Their Banh Canh (rice flour noodles in soup) was pretty good too as it has a strong shrimp broth flavor. With that said, there were a few dishes that I probably wouldn't order again such as their Mi Quang. However, I think that's just a personal opinion as I had never had it before and didn't realize that yellow noodles meant dyed fluorescent yellow noodles and not egg noodles. I'm sure it's traditional, but it was a bit too odd for me. It also didn't come with that much seafood and so it just missed the mark for me. Their Bun Bo Hue, spicy beef soup, had a lot of meat but lacked the heat. Their Yellow Curry was Vietnamese style and not Thai style; I thought they would be similar, but the Vietnamese style was much more bland and didn't have a strong curry taste. Service is decent and the servers are always very friendly and attentive; they always come by to ask how our food is and to refill our waters. Parking is plentiful as they have a large shared lot. The restaurant is always busy, but I've never had to wait for a table. I've honestly never had a bad experience here and that says a lot given the number of times I've eaten at The Lemongrass. In terms of atmosphere, the place is modern casual. They have at least a dozen tables including booths. The bathrooms are single stalls and always kept clean. My only qualm is that the hot water tap never works in the women's bathroom; it's always ice cold. Overall: 4/5 for food, 5/5 for service, 4/5 for atmosphere read more
