This is one of my favorite little spots on the lake! The fried seafood is reliably good and is such a good spot to relax after a long day on the water. Always such a treat to spot in

Nothing like a classic white chowder in a sourdough bread bowl with some fish & chips. One of the best spots for chowder in the city 9/10

I hadn't had Ivar's in over 8 years, and back then, it was the fancy seafood restaurant called Mukilteo Landing in Mukilteo. When I heard that there was an Ivar's close to our hotel in Renton, WA, I almost thought it'd be Ivar's Renton Landing, which probably would have been appropriate given that it was near The Landing in Renton. But no, this was no fancy restaurant; it was simply a seafood bar. That's not to say it's inferior to the fancy restaurant as I don't think the two can be compared. It'd be kind of like comparing Pappadeaux Seafood Restaurant to Sea Island Shrimp House, IYKYK, but I digress. Ivar's Seafood Bar in Renton is located within Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, which is within walking distance of The Landing. I was walking with a groupmate after spending the day* out and about, and even though we were planning to eat dinner at Ivar's, we actually walked inside Kidd Valley first and almost thought Ivar's was farther away. I mean, it was, but only a few steps farther away lol. When we stepped in, there was a cashier who was ready to take our order, but considering it was our first time at Ivar's, at least the Seafood Bar, we needed time to decide what to get. We both had the same idea of ordering an Ivar's Famous Chowder and a Fish & Chips, although we both would have preferred grilled over fried fish. Of course, the chowder includes the clam, but I didn't know that they had Wild Alaska Salmon Chowder as well! Oh?! Sign me up for that please! Their chowders come in four different sizes: Cup, Bowl, Tanker (4 servings), and Bread Bowl. On average, the Wild Alaska Salmon is a couple dollars more than the clam chowder, but I was more than willing to try the Wild Alaska Salmon this time around. I've had my fair share of clam chowder, but don't recall the last time I ever had a salmon chowder, so I went with that, choosing Bowl as my size of choice. The salmon chowder came with not one, but two packets of Zesta saltine crackers, which I put to good use. For the Fish & Chips, they also had Wild Alaska Salmon as an option, which surprised me because I had never seen salmon as an option for Fish when it comes to Fish & Chips. However, when in Rome, or in this case, Renton lol; I had to keep the Wild Alaska Salmon theme going. Different choices of fish come in different numbers of pieces; the Wild Alaska Salmon comes in 4 pieces, which was more than the Panko Crusted Cod and the Wild Pacific Halibut. I also ordered a large fountain drink, which was 25% more than a regular fountain drink. Unfortunately, I didn't see an option for a zero sugar drink, so I settled for a Diet Dr. Pepper. Even for a seafood bar, the pricing isn't cheap. For the salmon chowder bowl, salmon & fries, and the fountain drink, I spent around $30 for all this, though that did include an overcharge. Keep on reading. Was it worth the ~$30? Yes, but not totally I would say. While I liked the overall taste of both the salmon chowder as well as the salmon & chips, I thought there could have been more flavor in both. I didn't think the Wild Alaska Salmon Chowder was that much of an upgrade compared to Clam Chowder, but if you haven't had it before, it's worth trying once. Also, the batter of the fried salmon was overpowering in taste compared to the salmon itself. I'm glad salmon was an option for the fish, but I don't think I would have been missing out on too much had I chosen the Panko Crusted Cod or the Wild Pacific Halibut instead, especially since you can get as much tartar and/or cocktail sauce as you want. The chips of the Fish & Chips weren't nearly as crispy as I would have preferred. Did I mention the tartar and cocktail sauces? They have five sauce dispensers on the counter across from the register where you can fill up on these sauces for your fish & chips or whatever other entree you choose; three of these dispensers are for tartar albeit one sweet. If you order to go, they have to-go sauces available at the front counter. There are also a couple bottles of vinegar sauces that you can squirt into the cups if you'd like to try those instead. Now, I would have given 4 stars for this Seafood Bar, but I didn't realize until after I returned to my hotel that I got charged for both a regular and a large drink! I did say regular at first, which was my bad, but I was only given the large. I just didn't think that I'd get charged for both, especially since the cashier only handed me one cup. Because of this overcharge, I'm docking an additional star here. Overall, Ivar's Seafood Bar is worth trying if you're looking for a no-frills seafood meal. However, check your receipt before leaving and don't get overcharged like I did! * My visit was back in November when I was taking a hiatus from posting reviews, hence why I posted this review rather late. And Bonnie, when you reply to this review, there's no need to try to rectify this shortcoming as it wouldn't make sense to do so being from out of state.

If you're in Seattle please come here! Place has fish, clams, chowder and everything in between. I ordered cod, clams and a piece of salmon. The very small piece of salmon was tasty but not worth the price so I wouldn't recommend it. However, the clams and cod were filling just surprisingly pricey since the place sits on the water, it would seem like the prices would be lower. Otherwise the service was great and the ambiance was family friendly. Also, it is near a gorgeous park where families were gathered enjoying the day. Definitely coming back.

On a rainy/cold day, i got a bowl of warm soup and sitting outside. It's quiet and peaceful. Service was fast, and claim chowder tasted like claim chowder. Nothing to complain about. The price was $8 which is understandable in this economy. I had a great time!

After spending time at the Gene Coulon Park we had dinner at Ivar's Seafood Bar. We got 3 Piece Cajun 'N Chips, Jumbo Prawns 'N Chips, Cup of Clam Chowder, and Corn Bread. We liked our food, the jumbo prawn and the cajun fish were good, clam chowder tasted good but had more potato than clam in my cup.

This is review for a side order of fries. It was good side for $5. The fries were crispy and not too greasy, I like the sweet tartar sauce. My friend likes her 3 pieces cods. She likes her cods but it is tiny pieces. But for the price, I guess you cannot expect bigger pieces of Cod. The lady at the register was nice and helpful. Sitting and eating the lake watching the sunset was great.

Been coming here for like 30 years. The current staff is pretty nice and efficient. The food was great! Though, of course a bit on the spendy side. Love the ambiance when eating next to lake wa. I like their self serve tarter bar thing.

Absolutely the most recommended location. The view made it on my top list. Not crowded and the service was good! I think they gave military discount! The staff was patient when they were taking our orders we were not decided on what to pick! The Cajun fish and chips were our favorite. We tried the crab salad and it was surprisingly good too! I love this location!!!

This Ivar's is in a fantastic location right on Lake Washington. They were a busy place the night we visited them with people eating there after viewing the Christmas lights. We ordered a 5 piece fish and chip along with a tanker of clam chowder. At about $30, it was enough to feed my wife and I. Though in retrospect, if we spent a few more dollars, we could've gotten the Full Boat Special. The fish and chips were okay. We thought the fish was bigger the last time we went. There was nothing bad or especially good about it. The clam chowder was a New England chowder. It was creamy and was full of potatoes and clams. We liked it, but, a tanker was too much for us. It is in a great location. It was kind of expensive. The food was okay.

I just wanted to show you that I really did get that at Ivar's, and not some where else.

I love Ivar's. Best fish and chips I ever had. I am from Washington State, and grew up with Ivar's Fish and Chips. But there are moments when I get disappointed. Today was one of them. Why would someone serve a Customer scraps for the amount of money that they pay for the food? Worker have to be attentive. Coulon Park area is always beautiful, including the Ivars ambience.

This quick-service restaurant has fantastic waterfront views. The last time I was in Washington, my favorite clam chowder was from Ivar's, so I made sure we were able to grab a quick snack while in the area. Bowl of white clam chowder (4/5) - Creamy savory chowder with plenty of clam pieces. My only wish was that it was a heartier soup. Bowl of smoked salmon chowder (2/5) - Creamy southwest-style chowder. I wasn't a fan. Fish & chips (4/5) - Lightly battered flaky fish on a bed of perfect fries. I loved the condiments bar with ketchup, tartar sauce, sweet tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, malt vinegar, and garlic vinegar. I loved a mix of the tartar and sweet tartar for the fish & chips.

God it's good to be home. Love Ivar's fresh fish and clam chowder delicious. Clean restaurant here located at Coulon Park a staple located in Renton. A bit pricier than last time I remember, but the food has never wavered

I'll be honest--the service felt a bit odd when we first walked in. We were told we could wait a while to get seated at the dinning area or that we could seat ourselves at the bar. Since it was our first time, I wasn't sure if that meant the actual bar counter or tables in the bar area. When I asked for clarification, there was a bit of an awkward pause before someone finally explained we could sit at a table in the bar section. That said, once we got settled, the experience improved. The server who took care of us was very kind and attentive. I ordered my usual go-to at breakfast spots: chicken fried steak with a biscuit. It was really good--definitely hearty and comforting without being overly greasy. That said, it is a heavy meal (fried food plus gravy), so be prepared for a post-brunch nap. The biscuit looked a little underwhelming at first, but it actually tasted great. The overall vibe of the place is very much a local dive bar feel, and the service style matches that. As long as you go in with the right expectations, it makes for an enjoyable, laid-back brunch. Also worth noting--there's a decent amount of parking in the back, which is always a plus. Overall, a solid spot for a casual, no-frills brunch.
