Cute little hipster cafe in the middle of downtown! We had just landed in Salem, OR and were ready to dig in. We stopped at this cafe for some brunch. There was a wait and we needed a table for 8 people. The waiting area is on the side of the building and there are tables to stand by. The waiter came out and provided us drink menus while we waited for our table. It was about a 30 min wait before we sat down. We chose to sit inside and we had a birthday cake with us that we were not intending to eat. They offered to keep in their fridge while we waited, but we declined. Our waitress was patient and kind. She explained to us her favorite dishes and the dish of day. Of course with a party of 8, she had to repeat herself many times. The food came out quickly and all together at once. The food was delicious! The flavors were all there and the portions were a good size. Their drinks are pretty good as well and I recommended trying them. Arrived a few minutes before opening and already had a small crowd ahead of us but got in with the first rush. Bright and homey/classy with friendly and attentive but not hovering servers. Reviews suggested trying the lemon poppyseed scones - not available today - so went with the lemon blueberry scone. Amazing! Big enough for two! Don't not try the scones! Tried the nasi goreng fried rice for something different. Did not disappoint! Flavorful with just a hint of zing. Just the right size to satisfy without going into a food coma. Wife went with the shashouka and hash browns on the side. Spicy but not melting your fillings level spicy. Bottomless coffee completed the meal. Certainly worth a return visit! read more

Ok, my bad. I have been asked several times since they opened to come visit The Lemon Tree, but always turned it down as I thought it was a tea and crumpet kind of place. YELP'ers I am stupid I guess. Finally got in a lunch seated outside and found a new favorite eatery. Location, well not the best location for downtown Bend and during peak tourist season parking can be a mother and it can be a packed house. Some of the outdoor seating during lunch has a lot of sun exposure, that is if the sun is out, but there are a few tables around the back in the alleyway with great shade. Indoor seating is not really intimate but very nice, it may also be a little loud when it is packed. Menu, eclectic, worldly, and surprising is about all I can say. I was not familiar with some of the items on the menu but the waiter was awesome and offered a few recommendations for us and they were spot on. Food, amazing! I won't go into too much detail but will say not overspiced or seasoned beyond the base, real food, real taste. Seriously tastes like homemade food from someone house who knows how to cook. Staff, excellent vibe. We had a long lunch and did not feel like were were rushed to leave which was important as out table has stuff to talk about that day. Lemon Tree Restaurant in Bend Oregon We'd heard good things about this restaurant, so I took my wife to brunch yesterday. It's quite conveniently located in the heart of downtown Bend, although parking can be quite a problem. After a moderate wait, we were seated. Our first impression was that it was a very clean, visually bright restaurant, well-staffed and efficiently run. We had heard good things about their crab cake Benedict dish, and that is what we both ordered. When our dishes arrived, the food on our plates was very attractive and appealing, but the plates were stark landscapes indeed, with only the Benedicts and a little hollandaise sauce. The food preparation and cooking were first-rate. I saw on the menu that slices of tomato were available as an extra-cost item, and I think that little splash of color would've enhanced the plate's visual appeal substantially. It's too bad, with a menu price of over twenty dollars, that they couldn't have thrown a couple of slices of tomato onto the plate as a space-filler. The crabcakes were listed on the menu as "large lump", but we had to search our four patties (combined) for any lumps. Most of the crab appeared to be shreds and occasional tiny lumps. A further, and more severe disappointment was the almost complete lack of crab flavor due to the large amount of filler in the patties. There were times that it almost tasted as though I was eating tuna fish instead of crab. All in all, while the meal was visually very appealing, the extreme lack of crab flavor, the starkness of the presentation, and the false promise of large lumps were quite off-putting. One last comment: I don't drink much coffee, but I know good coffee when I taste it. Unfortunately, I did not taste it at the Lemon Tree. The coffee was an adequate institutionalized brew, but far from exceptional. I must add that the presentation of the coffee was first-rate, and the little amaretto cookie that accompanied it was terrific! Overall, the ambiance and our experience were good enough to overcome our disappointment regarding the flavorless, no-lump crabcakes and insipid coffee. We will give the Lemon Tree another chance, but not for crab cakes again. read more

The hash browns come with sides of hot sauce. And here is where things get crazy delicious. They have home-made hot sauces here, and both are really REALLY good. If you like it you can (and should) buy some to go as well: Squirrel on fire - habanero, turmeric, and carrot Green coyote - tomatillo, cilantro, lime, jalapeño I ended up getting a medium sized jar of the squirrel on fire because OMG so delicious! It is also quite spicy. It doesn't make me sweat but it certainly gets my attention! Delicious. Cant wait to work it into some home recipes. Seating is limited. They have five 4-tops, outdoor seating only right now (obviously). The seats are not covered but there are heat lamps. So if it's drizzling unfortunately no options except sit in the rain or get your food to go. They also have delicious baked goods made fresh daily! Service was great! Really kind and attentive. This is a cute brunch spot and seem to be in demand considering the brunch crowd last Saturday. It would be considered intimate if they didn't fit too many tables in such a tiny space. The staff were very friendly and sweet. Can't recall the name of our server but she was super sweet. Unfortunately after bringing our food, she disappeared into the other side of the restaurant talking to some friends and completely forgot about us so we had to flag someone else to ask for other things we needed. Food wise, everything was beautifully presented. From the bloody Marys to the hot cocoa that came with a snowball, the steak and hash benny and shakshuka. We loved the bloody marys, the hot cocoa not so much. It was too watered down, my kiddo didn't drink it. The poached eggs and hollandaise sauce in the steak and hash Benny were delicious, the hash cooked perfectly but a little over seasoned and the steak almost non existent. A few thin slices of steak that looked like roast beef instead of steak was disappointing. The shakshuka was good but serving was small. I think their menu items were geared more towards adults and over priced for what you get. Will we come back? Not in the near future. read more

I ordered a traditional bloody mary while the manfriend did a "Jealous Mary", which is green and I guess made of cilantro and other green stuff? It tasted very herbal and had fun garnish, and I'm glad he ordered it. I was happy I ordered a traditional bloody, which other than needing a little bit more spice was very good. Now for the food! I went savory and had the tri-tip benedict. Oh damn, this was good! the meat was served perfectly medium rare, the egg expertly poached, the hollandaise rich and creamy, all served atop hash browns. I'd definitely order this again. The BF got amaretto french toast which was as gorgeous as it was decadent. Edible flowers really made this a dish that screams to be showed off on Yelp and Instagram. Finally, he also got some duck bacon, which is about as good as it sounds: very, very, good. The french toast was incredible and the crab cakes Benedict was perfect with the best poached eggs. If you drink alcohol, definitely try the pomegranate mimosa and The Lemon Tree cocktail, they're superb. Also got the lemon curd cheesecake and lemon tart to-go and are very excited to try them. Medium rare as requested and char-broiled outside. The hash brown is freshly made. Still crispy when it was served. - Crab cake benedict: 5 stars. Lots of crab and the crab cake tastes good! - Steak salad: 4 stars. The steak is tender and flavorful; the salad tastes good too but I'll ask for less dressing next time. They were having trouble with the outdoor heater next to our table, so it was a bit brisk as we were waiting for our meal to arrive. My 14 year old son had the Shakshuka and LOVED it. We discovered Lemon Tree from on our last morning in Bend as we explored on foot before flying home. From the moment we were seated, we could see that our experience would be a treat. The space is very clean and neat, but nicely decorated with timeless furniture, wall art and a large glass storefront, lots of natural light and river views. Our server, Edie, met us at the table immediately and described the daily specials with great care. She served the tasty house coffee just as we ordered and kept our mugs full. She offered great recommendations from personal experience and seemed to really enjoy the food she described. My wife chose the Avo Smash served with poached eggs over hashbrowns and added a side of Hollandaise sauce. I chose the daily special of creamy tomato soup, served with a turkey, tomato and pesto panini. Both plates were served promptly, with excellent presentation and supporting flavors. My meal seemed like two, as the panini on fresh bread paired so well with the tomato soup. Both features tasted so fresh and could have been a meal in themselves. My wife's selection was also excellent and proved larger than she could finish. All the ingredients tasted very fresh and were served with excellent preparation. Part of our excellent experience at Lemon Tree came from the amazing service provided by Edie. Her confidence in the menu, friendly demeanor and attention to our experience was so appreciated, as it becomes increasingly unusual in the restaurant industry. read more
