I really didn't want to give a small, new business a bad rap but I wanted to give my two cent to help it do better. The owner seems like he's trying his best but he's gonna have to compete with other places. The closest one is el pollo ala brasa around the corner. I don't even like their chicken because I think it's bland and the quality is iffy but they wood fire it and it's cheap. But about the LA pits meats. The brisket was hard like it's been out sitting for a couple of days. And you can tell because it was completely dried out on one side. Plus the meat itself is overcooked. The potato salad and green beans also tasted funky. The bread was dry. All the three items I just mentioned tasted like it was cross contaminated with some other taste which was bizarre. Even the bread. So maybe it's the cleanliness or the lack of the container they store it in?? The bbq sauce was awful as well. And had some funky taste. The beans were beyond soggy just like canned ones. I just can't seem to grasp that any of it would be made in house. There are other bbq places with super tender moist juicy meats. That's your competition. I hope the quality does get better. But I don't think I'll be returning. Wish the best for them. read more

I came by The LA Pit today after seeing it on Yelp, not realizing they weren't officially open yet. When I got there, it looked quiet, but I saw someone inside, it turned out to be the owner. I was checking the sign outside when he came out and asked if I needed anything. I told him I was hoping to try the brisket, and even though they weren't officially open yet, he invited me in and made one for me. That gesture really stood out. He didn't have to serve me, but he did, and the food was genuinely great. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and the sauce was perfectly balanced. This made me write a review lol. The owner was welcoming and easy to talk to. You can tell he really cares about what he's building. I'm looking forward to coming back once they officially open, and trying the other items on their menu. If this is the starting point, they're already heading in the right direction. A1 experience! Went in with a very specific agenda on tasting the pull pork after learning of this place from Instagram. Walked right in asked for a taste of the pull pork before buying and it was provided without hesitation and that was an instant plus! Went tried it, it was soooo tender. I have been trying to find pull pork that taste like back home in Tennessee. Although, I could've appreciated a bit more of a smokey taste, I knew I'd need to take it to the experts, my parents. We got a 3 meat plate (dbl pull pork and rib tips) with the assistance of the very accommodating staff, they helped us navigate the ordering process and simplified everything, we needed that assistance truly. Fast forward to the parental review, they BOTH really enjoyed the tenderness of the meat which was on point and they agreed the smokiness could be more aggressive however, it was tasty nonetheless, the baked beans and surprisingly the macaroni and cheese was a banger as well and the sides are plentiful. The team was welcoming and so kind, we'll be back for CERTAIN and let us say this spot is a TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT type of location!!!! read more

My husband and I walked over to check out the new BBQ place, The LA Pit, that took over the spot where Ana's was. They had their soft opening over Memorial Day weekend. The inside looked much cleaner and fixed up. We spoke with the owner, Rish, who was super nice. We ordered our food to-go, but there were plenty of tables all setup with rolls of paper towels. Since this was a soft opening, only done mats and sides were available. He told us everything will be available for the Grand Opening. We tried the brisket, chicken, and a rack of pork ribs. All the meat was soft and you could eat everything with just a fork (or your hands lol). The rib meat fell off the bones. We also tried the potato salad, which was really good, too. We are looking forward to when this place will be officially open and recommend that you check it out. read more

Food was great! Service was great, both the cashier and pit master were friendly and attentive. We love BBQ and this place did not disappoint. Pork ribs were solid -- smoky, juicy, and tender. Enjoyed them dry, no sauce needed. Pulled pork was also good, a little drier, but it's coz we got the crisps, a little bbq sauce and yummm! Brisket was delicious, even my daughter loved it! Mac n cheese was good, not overly cheesy, just right. Baked beans were great too. Everything was delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Had the 2-meal plate with the pulled pork , hot links, fries and roll. The pulled pork flavor was great and the hot links and fries were great too. Also, had the 1-meat meal with the smoked chicken breast which had a great smoke flavor and was moist (would highly recommend). Had the coleslaw and roll which the coleslaw was very tasty too. Well, definitely not what we expected... Although the owner was a real nice person, the food was no better than cafeteria food. Absolutely no flavor. The Brisket had no smoke flavor what so ever. We also tried the chicken and pork hot links and they seemed to be warmed up in an oven with absolutely no char or smoke flavor either.... the Mac and cheese was out of a box, baked beans out of a can, literally. The potato salad would make a turd, and the corn bread was so dry, it crumbled trying to pick it out of the rapper. Seriously disappointing. Absolutely no desire to return. If you want real BBQ, try Ray's BBQ in South Gate. That place is worth the drive. read more

Very quaint establishment. I like it. No nonsense set up, going there for the food not the decor. The potato salad was very tasty, I was surprised. Their Cole slaw is just right, not saturated in liquid, tasted very good. Brisket was very tender, showed it was cooked with care, however it does need flavor before we add the bbq sauce to it. Sometimes just want to enjoy the meat without the sauce. The chicken was the same, need to add a little flavor. Didn't try ribs, however will try the next time I'm around the area. The roll was ok, not there for the bread, however maybe source from a local bread or "panaderia" shop in the future. Pickles and onions were a nice touch. I was well pleased. A barbeque spot in downtown Gardena. I went to just test them out with an open mind. I order half an rack of pork ribs and some brisket. Both were well flavored and very tender. They give you sauce on the side. They don't play with the ol' trick of trying to hide behind the sauce. This is a real spot. For sure in my rotation! read more

I had to order via Uber Eats due to individual sides like bbq beans, Mac, green beans, Etc not being available for purchase on GRUBHUB. (Order listed in photo) Mac&Cheese 2/10 (doesn't taste like a traditional baked mac more like an artificial kraft or Velveeta stove top mac.) Beans 4/10 (tasted like Bush's baked beans) Sliced Beef Brisket 7/10 nice taste more seasoning or brine/marinade suggested. Smoked chicken 1/10 (very dry, minimal seasoning) Large Potato Casserole 7/10 (looked nothing like what was described) more like red mashed potatoes, but were good! The side of sauce 8/10 I ordered (spicy and regular) was not labeled so there was no way to tell the difference outside of tasting both. Texas toast 10/10. This a great place for a quick lunch. Seasoned Bbq enthusiasts I'm afraid will be underwhelmed. Pricing and portion sizes are decent for a Bbq spot. I had my doubts at first because they looked a little empty but you should never judge a book by its cover at all saying goes and I stand corrected the barbecue ribs amazing and the brisket they gave it to me chopped and slice delicious. I got the spicy barbecue and all actuality it didn't need it but I had to try it. I had their baked beans Taste like I baked them myself and that mac & cheese I got 10 out of 10 I honestly recommend this place and I hope the business starts to boost because they know barbecue!!! read more

Let me begin by saying I consider myself a self proclaimed connoisseur of good bbq. I go way back to the 60's, to places like Mr. Jim's the truck on El Segundo, even the Original Pit on Vermont in South Central. So needless to say, my standards for good bbq are rather high. With that said, I must say, that I made three attempts to give this business a try. The three different attempts were because I was in line behind a guy who must have 10 separate orders. The second time, the ribs weren't ready and I would have needed to wait 45 minutes. The third time, the charm, almost caused me to leave again because some lady had seemingly endless questions without purchasing a thing. Finally I was able to place an order for ribs only, since other reviews did not have favorable reviews about the sides. Although the service was good, I had the unfortunate experience of receiving 5 ribs for my 1/2 rack and 1 bone with nothing on it. I'm not sure what happened there but it wasn't because the meat fell off the bone. The bbq itself was decent with one major complaint, the membrane was left on the meat. I would imagine some people cook bbq without removing the membrane, but the real Pit-masters remove it. Would I go again is questionable because I DO like to support our local small businesses. However, the prices are a little higher, than other comparable bbq places that I frequent. read more
