I was really excited to try The LA Pit since it's literally less than a 5-minute walk from my house and I LOVE BBQ. I ordered the brisket sandwich and asked for all of their BBQ sauces on the side so I could try them out. First impression walking in--the place was clean, there was no smell of BBQ, which kind of threw me off in a food spot. The menu situation wasn't the best either... it was taped to the counter with an overhead menu, no paper menus to actually look through, which made ordering feel a little rushed. Service was just okay, nothing memorable. Now the food... by the time I walked home (again, less than 5 minutes), my sandwich was freezing cold. Not even slightly warm.. cold. That honestly made me feel like the meat had been sitting and wasn't reheated before serving, or maybe that's just how they serve it, but either way I didn't like it... I also tried all of their BBQ sauces and none of them really stood out. One was overly sweet, and overall they just weren't hitting... I've walked past this place plenty of times and really wanted to like it, but between the cold food and underwhelming sauces, it just didn't deliver. Gardena has great food options so it was nice to see that The LA Pit took up the space left open by Ana's and now there's a bbq option to add to the list of great eateries in the city. There's plenty of seating available, the space is open and the self-serve utensils, napkins can all be found near the counter. No table service here so head right on up to the counter to place your order. The woman we met on Friday, October 10 was so nice. Since it was our first time here, she made some suggestions on what to try, and also let us know they had run out of ribs :/ My friend and I decided to each get the 2-meat plate and we ordered different items so we could try a little bit of everything. After ordering we sat at one of the open tables and waited a bit. When the meat plates arrived we let out a little "ooh and ahh" because it all just look so amazing! I got the pulled pork and brisket with mac n cheese and green beans as my side and my friend got the beef polish sausage and beef hot links with onions rings and french fries. We chose the regular and spicy bbq (which comes on the side) and oh boy! The spicy bbq sauce has a nice heat to eat but nothing that makes it uncomfortable and unenjoyable to eat. Say "yes" to it when you order. The meat-plate comes with a dinner role but both of us opted for the corn bread, sooooo good! Not dry, not too crumbly. I liked the bark of the brisket, it had a nice salty taste that I enjoyed and I didn't even need to use the knife to cut into the brisket, it feel apart with the fork just going through it. And this was a plastic fork so that's how tender it was. I like the pulled pork, and I do like mine more on the wet side (you know the style of pulled pork that is pulled super thin and covered in juice) but this version was nice too. Flavorful. I tried the sausage and that beef hot link, that was spicy! Both of the sausage options were soft, tender. The casing gave that nice snap that (I think) sausage should have. And these onion rings (and I don't like onion rings) were so good. Whatever they're using as a batter and however it is that they're frying made these crunchy. We had a really nice experience. If there was one thing I would change about the experience is that the piece of cornbread is just too tiny :/ . First let me start by saying this is my opinion, and everyone has one. We rolled up to this place right before closing, so yes, I fully accept that we came in hot and late. Most items were already sold out, which is fair. That part maybe on us. Now let me say this upfront, the older woman that helped us was sweet as cake. Truly she was pleasant, smiled the entire time, and did her absolute best to accommodate us. Service with kindness always matters when you are spending your money, and she delivered in that department. Unfortunately, the food did not. We spent about $75.00 only to get home and realize that our 3-meat combo was actually a two-meat combo. The brisket was flavorful I'd give credit where credit is due-but everything else lacked seasoning, and we were desperately searching the bag for the other meat that we ordered, like it would magically appear. We also had to remind her we ordered a side before she handed us the food. The fried okra? definitely store bought, freshly fried, and oddly sweet, sweet okra threw me off-it was giving dessert energy Then the rib tips. which we ordered and paid for and were told after the fact she was actually out of them...Suprise. The barbecue sauce deserves its own paragraph because, whew. It had a sweet almost Thanksgiving spice situation, nutmeg, cinnamon. I'm not sure but it was giving holiday potluck instead of barbecue. Bad review, which this is not! This is a call to action on your brisket, it needs work, I don't know that it was smoked, it seemed baked and for a place calling itself LA pit, you got to turn that around. Jalapeño cheddar sausage was good but the turkey also could use a hand. Boneless turkey breast without a good rub and a touch of smoke is a hard sell. Mac and cheese and beans were on point. Now it's time to add the very bad. It's been made clear the owner has an attitude problem. He's decided insulting customers AND showing ignorance is a good plan. First let's cover ignorance. As any business owner should know, there are options regarding supplies and suppliers. If you decide to choose the cheapest possible option, the product will cheap AND low quality. For example, you decide to go with the cheapest possible cutlery, you're going to be handing out something that costs less and it will be lower quality providing lower performance. I'll provide another example, I'm expecting someone to not understand. Your child is at the age needing to have a car. You go with your plan of the cheapest possible option and buy a used Yugo. Any other person would understand and predict what will most likely happen, it breaks down. I've provided two examples explaining the correlation between cost and quality. I'm not expecting an ignorant person to understand. Therefore, I wouldn't expect an increased quality in any aspect of this business. Soap and water cost more than just water so I'm going to guess it's filthy back there. Quality food products cost more than the cheapest possible option. Pest control costs more than ignoring rats and roaches. The list of possible problems with going with the cheapest possible option is endless. Owner states it takes an additional hour to achieve very well done. I really feel sorry for anyone who claims to know how to cook food to need that much additional time. There's no possible way he's ever worked as a real restaurant cook. But as a business owner I guess he can go slow as he pleases. Don't worry about me. I found another bbq restaurant. No attitude or ignorance problems there. The food was better AND the fork is useable to eat with. Ignorance is nothing to be ashamed of. It just means you don't know any better. You can improve yourself by learning. Do some research on high quality vs low quality products and how it affects your business. Learn how insulting your customers affects your business. What you do now is up to you, learn from your mistakes or don't and keep repeating them. I have no reason to return. I had the brisket, smoked chicken breast and beef hot links ( 3 meat combo) and none of it tasted good. The hot links were soft and didn't seemed cooked. The brisket was okay but kind of fatty and the chicken was dry. My sides were macaroni and baked beans. The macaroni tasted unseasoned....it could've been edible if they added some salt and seasoning. The beans were average also. read more

I tried this place for the first time from a positive review from my sister's co worker and it did not disappoint! I've been looking for a good bbq place in the Gardena area for a very long time and was unsuccessful. So I was thrilled when I found out there was a new place that opened up down the street from Giuliano's. I received a very warm welcome when I first walked in which I later learned was the owner. I told him it was my first time there and he explained the menu to me. You could tell he was very passionate about his business and really values his customers. I ended up ordering the 2 meat 2 sides and 1 bread plate. The brisket and pork rib were delicious! Both were very flavorful and tender. I would have liked to have more sauce but I should have checked it before I left and would have asked for more. I must say the meat had so much flavor that I didn't mind so much not having enough sauce. The mac and cheese was ok could have been seasoned a bit more. The potato salad was on point and quite tasty! The place was clean with a few dining tables and a flat screen tv. It's a decent spot pretty typical of any other bbq takeout place. If you are looking for a decorative family style sit down restaurant then you should go somewhere like Lucille's. This place is for quick down and dirty I want some no fuss bbq and that's it! I got their food delivered, which I admit isn't always indicative, but here's my take. I got the two meat plate with smoked chicken and beef sausage. ( I don't eat pork, so places that specialize in it are at a disadvantage with me.) I got potato salad and fried okra as sides. Chicken was outstanding. Tender and flavorful. Not much smoke, but the flavor it did have was good. Beef sausage was tender, but on the bland side. I expect a flavor bomb from sausage and I didn't get it. Both meats were a little too salty. Bbq sauce was disappointing. I got the spicy version. It had a bite, but the flavor was lacking. It didn't add much to the meat. Fried okra was mushy and flavorless. Potato salad was also outstanding. If I had gotten this and the chicken, I would have been satisfied. Grateful for the little side of pickles and raw onion. Saw this place on social media and thought I'd give it a try. I tried the 'I Don't Know" plate and it was great! The brisket was tender and juicy, the ribs came off the bone and the chicken sausage was spicy and delicious! The BBQ beans were okay but the Potato Salad was really good. Overall a great experience, there is indoor seating but no restroom facilities (yet). Service is pretty quick so take-out is a good option. I'm coming back to try the sandwiches!!! read more

Hi, This is a new B.B.Q place on Gardena Blvd. and Berendo ave It was so exciting to see The coming soon signs in the window . THE L.A. PIT was having a soft opening this weekend so while nn Gardena visiting my brother Floyd we decided to give it a try and we are so glad we did. I ordered a 3 meat plate which consisted of brisket, ribs, and jalapeño and cheddar sausage the 2 sides I chose were mac and cheese and baked beans we really enjoyed the food here. I would definitely recommend The LA PIT. With it being a soft opening not all the meats and side were available but once they have their grand opening I'm sure there will be a whole menu to choose from.
