Great BBQ and I would recommend anyone who sees the smoke coming from his smokers to come and try it. The wait was a little longer than I'm used to but it was well worth the patience.

I happened to be driving in the area when the craving came for bbq. I yelped the nearest location.. looked at the reviews and decided we needed to stop and give this place a try. So happy we did.. The combo plate was shared between my mother and I ( 2 wings, 2 ribs, 1 link--beef and 3 side orders.. we got mac n cheese, greens and bbq beans and a drink $15.00) then we proceeded to get a hot link sandwich-- chicken link ( i believe this was around $5.00) and an order of bits and things which includes beef tips and lil smokies (i believe this was $12-13 dont quote me on this lol) when i say everything was delicious it most definitely was. Their beans had a hint of chili seasoning with bbq sauce.. and listen the bbq sauce u can taste was home made.. if i didn't live so far id come every weekend.. Ohh let me not forget the amazing peach cobbler ($3.00) im very picky with a dish i can make so well.. but this right here.. the crust the peaches.. omg every bite was full of awesomeness lol.. its located on the corner (literally) so you cannot miss them! I also enjoyed how personable the gentlemen were.. i think i may make the drive again next week (TWO THUMBS UP)

Bbq chicken combo $14 (comes w/a drink as well & bread)

We were greeted at the door by security, who opened it for every customer. His attitude was pleasant, and he had a genuine smile. Not one of those false demonstrations of civility. When you walk in, the smell of the food automatically turns you from hungry to excitedly starving. One of the keys to good food is the aroma from the kitchen. We were ushered to the back, Sunday Church pun intended. Our server got us wonderful drinks. Then we ordered our food, and when those soulful southern dishes arrived, it was the crown jewel of the experience. They looked as good as they tasted. We not only enjoyed the food, but Lonell came and chatted with us. He was genuinely concerned with the quality of our food and service, which was exceptional. On the way out, we asked for a picture and promised to come back whenever we are in the LA area. Please try this for yourself and post your favorite food.

When I inquired, I was told, yes, "Dinner" menus are also the weekend. Okie doke. Found out the "Muddy Water" drink on the menu is lemonade, sweet tea and berry juice. My friends and I decided to each order something different so we could sample many things. Chicken plate, salmon plate and meatloaf plate. Each plate came w/2 sides and a "hot water" cornbread muffin. We went with mac n cheese, cooked cabbaged, sweet potato, collard greens, string beans and mashed potatoes as our sides. I hadn't mentioned any reviews to my friends because I wanted their unbiased opinions. Food arrived, they dug in and I started taking pics. IYKYK! lol! Before I could set my phone down the first remark was, 'Wow! That's salty!' Wellllll...Thats what Yelpers had mentioned, but I couldn't believe it was THAT salty. Then I took a bite. Yes, indeed, salty. Everything, except the sweet potatoes was salty. Even the corn muffin was topped with a salty butter "wash". I think we all decided the salmon was the best. The sweet potatoes tasted sugary, which I honestly didn't mind cuz I got a sweet tooth. But my friends passed after a taste. The mac n cheese was good, but I just took a taste from the side to see if I wanted to order an extra side for the table. I didn't. My friend wasn't wild about the texture of her meatloaf. It looked like a hunk of dense cake, it was so finely ground. Not hand formed ground meat like we grew up eating. We skipped dessert and left some things behind. I plan on checking the reviews again before the year ends and see if comments are still talking about the salt content. I'll be back if the salt is reduced because the staff was very nice and attentive and this is a lovely space I hope will be successful for years. Cheers! "CC"

I was only in Cali for a short while, and this spot happened to be about 15 min down the street from where I was staying. Perfect location, and I was curious to see how Cali does soul food. From the first bite, it hit me Emotionally triggered as I was transported straight back to my childhood. It felt like I was sitting at the kitchen table in New Orleans, eating my nanny's candied yams, greens, macaroni, and fried chicken. The flavors had that deep, home-cooked love, that is not taken for granted or lost on me, so hats off to the cook! That kind of food doesn't just fill you up; it connects you,and to top it off, the drinks? Man, they serve that real deal kol-aid. The kind I used to drink as a kid. As I was eating, I started thinking about how food ties us to previous & future generations. It's wild how dishes once considered scraps i.e: greens, yams, cornbread, oxtails, are now sought out in restaurants just like this one. These meals are more than just food; they're stories of survival, resilience, and community. But I digress, I know y'all didn't come here for a history lesson in Black culture, so I'll leave it at that. Now, onto the standouts. The mac and cheese and yams? Easily the stars of the plate. I like my yams runny and solid, because I love mixing it with the cornbread. Sweet, savory, soft--that combo hits every time. The macaroni? Seasoned perfectly. Creamy, rich, and not bland like you sometimes get at other spots . That's rare, and I don't take it for granted. Overall, Soul Food Shack gave me more than just a good meal, it gave me a taste of home, miles away from where I grew up. If you're ever in Inglewood and need some food that feeds more than just your stomach, pull up, tap in, eat up.

The serving size was great! Good portions. My husband and I split one order and it was more than enough for the both of us to share. We each got a delicious pork chop plus sides! Well seasoned, the batter was crispy and flavorful. Goo spices. The candied yams were a good mix of sweet and tangy and decent pieces. The Mac & Cheese was nice and cheesy, thick & seasoned to perfection! I am curious to try the other items on the menu to see how they measure up if it's this good consistently. Also affordable price for it about $25 with delivery fees etc but on the menu it's listed as $18.99 if you go get it or dine in. Glad I tried it! Will be back for more!

The pleasure of dining at Gotta Have It, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience overall,…read morewith a few standout dishes that I'll definitely be raving about! First off, let's talk about the catfish. From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I was in for a treat. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, golden brown, and beautifully seasoned. It had that classic soul food flavor that reminded me of family gatherings around the dinner table. The texture was flaky and moist, making it one of the best catfish dishes I've had in a long time. Next up was the mac and cheese, which was another highlight for me. It was absolutely creamy, cheesy, and baked to perfection with just the right amount of crust on top. You can tell they use quality ingredients, and it truly comforted my soul. This is definitely a dish you'll want to savor! The BBQ baked beans were another delightful surprise. They were rich and flavorful, striking that perfect balance of sweetness and smoky notes that instantly transported me back to home-cooked meals. I loved every spoonful, and it's clear that this recipe has been perfected over time. Now, onto the cabbage. Even though they were served cold, I was pleasantly surprised by how good they tasted after a quick pop in the microwave. They had the right amount of seasoning, and the flavors were vibrant and authentic. It's nice to know that quality and taste remain intact, even when they need a quick reheating. The Kool-Aid was also a refreshing addition to my meal. It had just the right amount of sweetness nothing too syrupy or overpowering. It was a great way to wash down the wonderful flavors of my meal. However, I did encounter a bit of a letdown with the chicken wings. While I had high hopes for them, they ended up being overcooked, resulting in a hard and chewy texture. It was disappointing since everything else was so good. I wouldn't order the wings again, but that's the beauty of soul food; there are so many other amazing options to explore! As for the service, it was adequate but could use some improvement. The staff was friendly enough, but I felt they could have been a bit more attentive. A little more engagement would have enhanced the overall dining experience. In summary, I highly recommend this food spot for the catfish, mac and cheese, and BBQ baked beans. It's a comforting, homey place where you can find some fantastic dishes that will make your taste buds sing. Just skip the wings, and I think you'll leave with a happy heart and a satisfied belly. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to dive into more of their delicious offerings!

Yes... you read that right, check in process. We live up the street and it was our first time trying this spot to finally see what the buzz was about. I paid for the food using Apple Pay and had my husband pick it up. I did read that when picking up, you need to have a matching ID and the CC used to pay. So I sent my husband with both. The security who checks you in gave him such a hard time about it and denied his entrance because it needs to be the same name as the person on the receipt! So I had to go. I arrived, parking is difficult to find although it's in a residential area. So after I showed him my ID, CC, and Email confirmation, he then has to write down all this info from your email?? He said the last 4 digits didn't match my CC, so I let him know I paid with Apple Pay. He then asked me to open my Apple Pay App to then look at the history?! The food is good and flavorful , but in LA, you can find that elsewhere without all the hassle. We will not be going back, that's for sure. Hope I can save someone a trip if they're traveling far for this to pick up for a friend or spouse.
