I ate here today for the first time and their food was amazing. I got the pork ribs, macaroni and cheese, and beans, and was genuinely surprised as it was all excellent, including the desert. And the girl who waited on us was very pleasant. I might add, I'm from Texas, so I know a little bit about good BBQ. I will definitely be going back. read more

I've had their food several times whenever they set up at LA Galaxy games, and I've genuinely tried to give them the benefit of the doubt each time. Unfortunately, it's been consistently disappointing. The barbecue is usually dry, the portions are small, and the quality just doesn't match the price. I understand that food at sporting events is going to be more expensive, but there still has to be a reasonable balance between cost, portion size, and quality. The meat is so dry that I find myself having to cover it in barbecue sauce just to make it enjoyable. Good barbecue shouldn't need to be rescued with sauce. I really wanted to like this place because I keep seeing them at Galaxy games, but after multiple visits, I don't think I'll be ordering from them again unless something changes. I hope they improve because they have a great opportunity to serve thousands of fans every match. Not a 1 star, but a 2 is solid for them. read more

We were in the area running errands and we thought that bar-b-que sounded good for dinner. I started Yelping places in the area but many seemed to close really early. We landed on My Father's Barbeque and I remembered hearing radio ads from the local radio station. as we pulled in the whole strip mall is under construction. Parking was easy but there's no marquee signs on the building nor addresses so we had to look for a small banner on the chain-link fence out in front of the business. We walked in and the hostess was taking a phone order and right away the Chef said WELCOME! and came over to greet us and showed us the limited menu since they and just reopened due to the construction, she told us items they had but were not on the board. The young lady thanked us for waiting and asked if she could help us. Ok many have said the customer service was bad but that was not our experience, we had very pleasant and friendly the WHOLE time we were here! We placed our order 2 dinner plates - 1- 2 meats(brisket& pulled pork) w/bacon potato salad & greens; 1-1 meat(rib tips) w/macaroni & cheese & beans. As we were waiting they offered some Texas toast, they checked on us as we were waiting and time seemed to go by. I think we waited about 20 minutes for our food to come. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing! Hot food was hot and cold food was cold. The meats were seasoned well and very tender. The macaroni & cheese was cheesy and tasted great. The greens were cooked with cabbage and smoked turkey, the beans had a slight sweetness and had some brisket pieces and the potato salad was made with red potatoes with the skin left on it. It was filled with onions, celery and bacon yummy! While there Chef Sharlamar Lane came over and introduced herself again and checked in to see how everything was tasting. We gave her our honest opinions and she appreciated us for coming in. We had the opportunity to taste the brisket chili fries......OMG y'all those were fire and the fries were still crispy even though all the veggie, chilli, chees & brisket were on top. Oh we also got some peach cobbler which was heavy on the crust, it wasn't too sweet and it tasted really good. Overall this was a really amazing meal and enough food for left overs. i love supporting our black-owed businesses and putting the $$$ back into our communities. Please go visit My Father's Barbeque in about 3 weeks when they're up and running back to normal with all the favorite food options on the menu, we'll definitely be back to get the whole experience. I'll start off with saying the service was trash off the rippa!!!! The young lady was nice but she knew nothing about waiting tables or taking orders, if she's new I'll give a pass but the knowing to bringing people water and bread for the table should come naturally. I'll jump into the food it was a$$$$$$$!!!! I'm sorry but coming from Texas this is not smoked meat!!!! This is steamed at most!!!! My turkey was hot on the outside ice cold in the middle, my Mac and cheese taste like a white handkerchief (had no taste) my cabbage greens had a lot of vinegar, I'm ok with a dab but it was ounces. The brisket should've been a treat but it was really fatty no flavor. The wings were decent the sauce made them edible. I would say improve on your sides and the art of smoking meat!!!! Out of the 3 dishes I'll give 1 star each. I might give them another shot just to see if they were having an off day read more

I recently arrived at the restaurant to order two dinner plates to go. Unfortunately it took ONE HOUR before I received my to go order. The side of cole slaw seemed old and the food packager mistakenly missed the macaroni salad and gave me another side of BBQ beans. Nevertheless I did not want to wait for the salad. The register was out so no receipt on the order. Perhaps the next time it will be better to call in the order rather than wait. Restaurant staff needs to step it up otherwise they may lose customers. I really like this place for their BBQ. read more

Ordered the brisket platter and while the meat had a good flavor, it was very fatty- not much of the meat was edible! Baked beans were good, Mac n cheese was just okay! I came to My Father's Bar-B-Que in Carson to support Curtiss Middle School's fundraiser and ordered three chicken barbecue plates. The menu clearly stated that the plates came with two sides and Texas Toast. The staff was friendly, and I appreciate that. However, the cashier explained there would be a 30-40 minute wait because they were out of mac and cheese and collard greens. I decided to wait, but what struck me as odd was that I placed my order right before I was told that the cook was making more greens----yet after 45 minutes, I was told they didn't have any at all. When I finally got home, I was even more disappointed- there was no Texas Toast included, and the chicken was served without barbecue sauce, and for the $110.94 price I paid, it definitely wasn't worth it. As someone who makes a point to support black-owned businesses to keep dollars in our community, I was truly let down by this experience. While the staff was kind, the follow-through and value just weren't there. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

Food preferences is a required taste. If you love a HEAVY SMOKE, dark tender BBQ then this is the place for you. I personally prefer my meat BBQ with a hint of smoke but not enough to overwhelm the BBQ. I would rate the smoke a 10 and the tenderness of the meat a 8 The sides Mac and cheese was mid. I was picking up lunch from another restaurant and while I waited, I went on my trusty Yelp app to see what else was around and realized that My Father's BBQ was in the same shopping center. I figured, why not pick up dinner... Been awhile since I'd had BBQ. I ordered a two meat combo with two sides. I chose the pork ribs and brisket, since they didn't have the beef links. The lady was super nice and she suggested calling before to see what meats they had for the day. She did say that with Covid, deliveries had not been easy, which I can totally understand. The meat smelled very good when I opened it. You could definitely smell that they smoke it. The ribs were delicious, meaty, and tender! I have to say that while the pork ribs were a good portion, the brisket was not. I had major hunks of fat attached to mine. If it's weighed like most BBQ places do, it would have been nice if they'd added a little extra meat, seeing how the big hunks of fat were inedible...at least for me. My dog sure enjoyed the fat! You can choose to get your sauce on the meat or on the side. I chose on the side, simply because I like to taste the seasoning on my meats before I add the sauce. I feel like sauces should enhance the flavor, not be the flavor. I like that they offer mild, medium, and hot BBQ sauce. I chose the hot and it was very good. I also like that it was rather thick. I hate super thin BBQ sauce, so that was a nice surprise. I ordered the greens and yams for the sides. The greens were good, but very mildly flavored. I was surprised that it wasn't straight greens, but greens and cabbage, which is still a good combination. I did have to add a little salt and pepper for flavor. The yams did not do it for me...I really hate to say that. They were not flavorful at all, and even worse was that several of the larger chunks of sweet potatoes were still hard, not fully cooked. Besides needing to be cooked longer, they also needed more cinnamon and brown sugar. I could have easily added that to doctor it up, but with the uncooked chunks, there was no point. Overall the food and customer service was great! I would definitely go back again. I want to try more of their meats and sides, including the brisket chili! They also give a discount for ILWU, which I thought was fantastic! So don't forget to show your card for discount. They are very Covid friendly, taking in person walk up orders, as well as phone and online orders. They also offer large family and party meals, which is great for the holidays or if you just don't feel like cooking. read more

This might be the best bbq joint in Souther California. I was immensely impressed with the items I got to try. First was the loaded fries. I honestly don't think I can eat loaded fries anymore unless it's from My Father's BBQ. So much flavor and the sauce's compliment each bite. The turkey leg with the Mac & cheese was also delicious. The turkey leg here destroys any turkey leg including the one sold in Disneyland. The bbq plater with the ribs, brisket, chicken, and chicken sausage was good. You can eat the ribs without sauce but if you add their house made sauces it doesn't hurt either. The inside gives me texas and Alabama vibes and it's very clean and neat and TVs around to catch a game. If you're a bbq lover you should add this place to your list. read more

Ordered the 2 meat combo(chicken& rib tips) . My total was $39 and some change. I got there a little before 7, they close @8. Came home and opened the plate to find 1 leg quarter and 9 dry ass tips!!! So let's due the math.... That's $20 for a leg quarter and 1 side and $20 for 9 tips and 1 side. That seems a bit over priced. I'm not really upset with the price. It's the quality of the food. The leg quarter was decent. Those tips had HEAVY SMOKE, and was DRY as the Desert. Love at first bite. Visited for July 4 holiday. There were people eating outside, and also waiting inside- you cannot eat inside. The sign at the menu and on the kiosk Alerts you that there is a minimum 45 minute wait. So be prepared to wait. It is worth it. Ordered the two meat sampler, Brisket and Ribs with two sides: macaroni&cheese with baked beans. It comes with two rolls and utensils. There are plenty drinks and desserts to choose from. I got peach cobbler. All of the food was soooo good and filling! I look forward to going back for more bbq next holiday. Meat was falling off the bone. Love that smoked flavor. I also love that they give you the option to have the sauce on your meat or on the side. I had it on the side and only used a very little bit. I like the mild over the hot but they are both very very flavorful. The peach cobbler was a nice treat to end the meal, just wish I had some ice cream! read more

Normally, I try to steer from leaving bad reviews on black owned businesses, however my friend ordered me a rib plate and I was extremely unsatisfied with the meal. For starters, the potato salad was not good. There were potato skins in it and the flavor wasn't present. The bread taste just like Bimbo bread or regular sandwich bread just put into a toaster. The Pork Ribs and beans were solid which is why we gave 3 stars. We've came here before and were satisfied, but I guess over the years the quality has decreased. read more

Much like most of my reviews, I have had this spot bookmarked since I have last lived in this area. It wasn't until I moved away to central LA that I would find myself here! It was one of my close friend's uncle's birthday and they decided to celebrate with some good ol' Q. So here we are. The scent of smoke fill the air as you inch closer and closer to the restaurant. (It's located in a strip mall by Orleans & York, which is another bomb spot!) You are welcomed by the friendly staff and the chalkboard with all their desserts... Stop tempting me! (Peach cobberl, blackberry cobbler, butter cake, cornbread, etc...) I'm drooling just thinking about it. Please note there is minimal tables inside and out, but we made it work with our party of 8. I ordered the BBQ chicken with the hot BBQ sauce and wheeew, chile. That BBQ sauce was on point! The heat seem minimal at first, but as you continue to dip your meat, it caused an uproar in my mouth. But, like my mother used to say - it's not good, if you're not sweating! Lol. The mac & cheese was cheesyyy and the collard greens and cabbage were good. I would've preferred just greens, though! All in all, I will definitely be back when I'm in the area. Tony (Mister pretty eyes haha) was extremely kind and gifted us a peach cobbler to try and share. Can't wait to be back! And when I do, I'm buying a bottle of the hot BBQ sauce! xo read more

My first experience here years ago was great. Today I placed an order for a friend who can't get out due to COVID19 restrictions. I didn't mind. I would be in the area when they opened at 11. I just got the order at 12:53. This is that crap that keeps my people on the bottom... not the product, not the cleanliness but the DAMN customer service!!!! I'm am sooooo freaking mad right now!! WTH?!!! I really want to support small black businesses but this is the stuff that further a validates the fact that you gotta get your mind right when you decide to dine at one. Let me give you some time stamps. 11:00 am... ordered place via telephone. I was told it would be about 45 minutes if they were serving potatoes due to an altered menu. She checked and I agreed to wait in the area. I mean... I promised to get this one meal my friend wanted. She deserves it. She's a new mom. Right?! The waitress said she would call back in 15 minutes with a total so I could bring cash because she wasn't sure if the machine worked so prepare to bring both. 12:00- I pull in lot and call because I haven't gotten a call. She said... let me check. She checks and I'm told it's almost ready. Ok... remember... she has a new baby... patience Felicia. 12:20- I walk up to see if it's ready. I am told "we will call you with the total. ( At this point I have forgotten all of the good vibes I received at church and I want to walk the hell away!!!! But I press on. 12:48- call... I don't answer. I walk up only to be told I need EXACT FREAKIN CHANGE for an order I didn't receive the damn total on at 11:15!!!! I'm too close to walk away now, so I return to my car, get the damn change of $.78 and go back to get the damn order!! ITS JUST A BRISKET BAKED POTATO!!!! She hands me the order through the other door and I return to my car at 12:53. There was no apology. No free dessert. No coupon or gift certificate. Hell I didn't even get napkins or utensils!!!!! What in the entire hell?!!!!!!! I wonder if the owner is on site and what he / she thinks of this crap. I am soooooooo done! I hope my friend enjoys every single bite because this will never happen again! This should count as my good deed for 2020! read more

First time here. I was in the area so I decided to try this place. Very clean establishment located in an outdoor mall. Plenty of parking but it does gets very busy during lunch rush hours. I ordered 3 meat Combo with brisket, pork ribs and chicken with Mac and Cheese and BBQ Baked Beans. The meats was tender, but very dry, tasteless and bland. I was very disappointed! Well we tried it. My Father's BBQ and for the record this is a women owned business. And that is a wonderful thing! Chef and owner and first ever ive known of in this type of restaurant. Saturday of the 4th weekend and it was pretty busy. BE PREPARED TO WAIT!! Maybe you can call ahead, I'm not sure. We waited 1.5 hours for a slab of beef ribs, beef hot links, brisket, Mac n cheese, collards, and bbq baked beans. For the record all of you complaining about the wait, stop. All of you complaining about the brisket being fatty and dry, stop. For the record brisket is a fatty cut, so do your homework. Beef ribs are my favorite BBQ so I was pleasantly surprised. Brisket was very tender. Beef links, I really enjoyed. They have great kicky spices! Wonderful smoke rings on the meats! What I think makes this bbq a little different is all the meat is dry rubbed. (Not the links) and the flavorful sauce is on the side for dipping and slathering. Try with out sauce and with see which you like, you have the option. Collards greens were ok. I really enjoyed the MnC, delish and pasta was not over done and it was not dried out. Bbq baked beans were really good! This place is in Carson and for socal bbq it's the best I've tasted. I'm pretty critical on these types of restaurants, you can see some of past ones I've reviewed. Go and check this place out worth the wait. But next time I'll try calling my order in.
