We were in the area running errands and we thought that bar-b-que sounded good for dinner. I started Yelping places in the area but many seemed to close really early. We landed on My Father's Barbeque and I remembered hearing radio ads from the local radio station. as we pulled in the whole strip mall is under construction. Parking was easy but there's no marquee signs on the building nor addresses so we had to look for a small banner on the chain-link fence out in front of the business. We walked in and the hostess was taking a phone order and right away the Chef said WELCOME! and came over to greet us and showed us the limited menu since they and just reopened due to the construction, she told us items they had but were not on the board. The young lady thanked us for waiting and asked if she could help us. Ok many have said the customer service was bad but that was not our experience, we had very pleasant and friendly the WHOLE time we were here! We placed our order 2 dinner plates - 1- 2 meats(brisket& pulled pork) w/bacon potato salad & greens; 1-1 meat(rib tips) w/macaroni & cheese & beans. As we were waiting they offered some Texas toast, they checked on us as we were waiting and time seemed to go by. I think we waited about 20 minutes for our food to come. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing! Hot food was hot and cold food was cold. The meats were seasoned well and very tender. The macaroni & cheese was cheesy and tasted great. The greens were cooked with cabbage and smoked turkey, the beans had a slight sweetness and had some brisket pieces and the potato salad was made with red potatoes with the skin left on it. It was filled with onions, celery and bacon yummy! While there Chef Sharlamar Lane came over and introduced herself again and checked in to see how everything was tasting. We gave her our honest opinions and she appreciated us for coming in. We had the opportunity to taste the brisket chili fries......OMG y'all those were fire and the fries were still crispy even though all the veggie, chilli, chees & brisket were on top. Oh we also got some peach cobbler which was heavy on the crust, it wasn't too sweet and it tasted really good. Overall this was a really amazing meal and enough food for left overs. i love supporting our black-owed businesses and putting the $$$ back into our communities. Please go visit My Father's Barbeque in about 3 weeks when they're up and running back to normal with all the favorite food options on the menu, we'll definitely be back to get the whole experience. I'll start off with saying the service was trash off the rippa!!!! The young lady was nice but she knew nothing about waiting tables or taking orders, if she's new I'll give a pass but the knowing to bringing people water and bread for the table should come naturally. I'll jump into the food it was a$$$$$$$!!!! I'm sorry but coming from Texas this is not smoked meat!!!! This is steamed at most!!!! My turkey was hot on the outside ice cold in the middle, my Mac and cheese taste like a white handkerchief (had no taste) my cabbage greens had a lot of vinegar, I'm ok with a dab but it was ounces. The brisket should've been a treat but it was really fatty no flavor. The wings were decent the sauce made them edible. I would say improve on your sides and the art of smoking meat!!!! I recently arrived at the restaurant to order two dinner plates to go. Unfortunately it took ONE HOUR before I received my to go order. The side of cole slaw seemed old and the food packager mistakenly missed the macaroni salad and gave me another side of BBQ beans. Nevertheless I did not want to wait for the salad. The register was out so no receipt on the order. Perhaps the next time it will be better to call in the order rather than wait. Restaurant staff needs to step it up otherwise they may lose customers. I came to My Father's Bar-B-Que in Carson to support Curtiss Middle School's fundraiser and ordered three chicken barbecue plates. The menu clearly stated that the plates came with two sides and Texas Toast. The staff was friendly, and I appreciate that. However, the cashier explained there would be a 30-40 minute wait because they were out of mac and cheese and collard greens. I decided to wait, but what struck me as odd was that I placed my order right before I was told that the cook was making more greens----yet after 45 minutes, I was told they didn't have any at all. When I finally got home, I was even more disappointed- there was no Texas Toast included, and the chicken was served without barbecue sauce, and for the $110.94 price I paid, it definitely wasn't worth it. As someone who makes a point to support black-owned businesses to keep dollars in our community, I was truly let down by this experience. I was picking up lunch from another restaurant and while I waited, I went on my trusty Yelp app to see what else was around and realized that My Father's BBQ was in the same shopping center. I figured, why not pick up dinner... Been awhile since I'd had BBQ. I ordered a two meat combo with two sides. I chose the pork ribs and brisket, since they didn't have the beef links. The lady was super nice and she suggested calling before to see what meats they had for the day. She did say that with Covid, deliveries had not been easy, which I can totally understand. The meat smelled very good when I opened it. You could definitely smell that they smoke it. The ribs were delicious, meaty, and tender! I have to say that while the pork ribs were a good portion, the brisket was not. I had major hunks of fat attached to mine. If it's weighed like most BBQ places do, it would have been nice if they'd added a little extra meat, seeing how the big hunks of fat were inedible...at least for me. My dog sure enjoyed the fat! You can choose to get your sauce on the meat or on the side. I chose on the side, simply because I like to taste the seasoning on my meats before I add the sauce. I feel like sauces should enhance the flavor, not be the flavor. I like that they offer mild, medium, and hot BBQ sauce. I chose the hot and it was very good. I also like that it was rather thick. I hate super thin BBQ sauce, so that was a nice surprise. I ordered the greens and yams for the sides. The greens were good, but very mildly flavored. I was surprised that it wasn't straight greens, but greens and cabbage, which is still a good combination. I did have to add a little salt and pepper for flavor. The yams did not do it for me...I really hate to say that. They were not flavorful at all, and even worse was that several of the larger chunks of sweet potatoes were still hard, not fully cooked. Besides needing to be cooked longer, they also needed more cinnamon and brown sugar. I could have easily added that to doctor it up, but with the uncooked chunks, there was no point. Overall the food and customer service was great! I would definitely go back again. I want to try more of their meats and sides, including the brisket chili! They also give a discount for ILWU, which I thought was fantastic! So don't forget to show your card for discount. They are very Covid friendly, taking in person walk up orders, as well as phone and online orders. This might be the best bbq joint in Souther California. I was immensely impressed with the items I got to try. First was the loaded fries. I honestly don't think I can eat loaded fries anymore unless it's from My Father's BBQ. So much flavor and the sauce's compliment each bite. The turkey leg with the Mac & cheese was also delicious. The turkey leg here destroys any turkey leg including the one sold in Disneyland. The bbq plater with the ribs, brisket, chicken, and chicken sausage was good. You can eat the ribs without sauce but if you add their house made sauces it doesn't hurt either. Came home and opened the plate to find 1 leg quarter and 9 dry ass tips!!! So let's due the math.... That's $20 for a leg quarter and 1 side and $20 for 9 tips and 1 side. That seems a bit over priced. I'm not really upset with the price. It's the quality of the food. The leg quarter was decent. Those tips had HEAVY SMOKE, and was DRY as the Desert. The sign at the menu and on the kiosk Alerts you that there is a minimum 45 minute wait. So be prepared to wait. It is worth it. Normally, I try to steer from leaving bad reviews on black owned businesses, however my friend ordered me a rib plate and I was extremely unsatisfied with the meal. For starters, the potato salad was not good. There were potato skins in it and the flavor wasn't present. The bread taste just like Bimbo bread or regular sandwich bread just put into a toaster. I ordered the rib tips (1 pound) the tips were very burnt and hard like charcoal. The few that had meat on them were too dry and the others were like a hard gelatin under the charcoal and on the gristle. Collard Greens and Cabbage were spicy and so were the Green Beans and Potato even more so. (It's located in a strip mall by Orleans & York, which is another bomb spot!) You are welcomed by the friendly staff and the chalkboard with all their desserts... Stop tempting me! (Peach cobberl, blackberry cobbler, butter cake, cornbread, etc...) I'm drooling just thinking about it. Please note there is minimal tables inside and out, but we made it work with our party of 8. I ordered the BBQ chicken with the hot BBQ sauce and wheeew, chile. That BBQ sauce was on point! The heat seem minimal at first, but as you continue to dip your meat, it caused an uproar in my mouth. But, like my mother used to say - it's not good, if you're not sweating! Lol. The mac & cheese was cheesyyy and the collard greens and cabbage were good. I would've preferred just greens, though! I went in there starving so once I got my food, I just started eating it and I forgot to take a picture. My order was two lunch specials. One was the ribs and it had the mac & cheese and greens delicious the second one was for my mom and she had the brisket, potato salad and yams we shared our sides so it can balance out our lunch.
