We were in the area running errands and we thought that bar-b-que sounded good for dinner. I started Yelping places in the area but many seemed to close really early. We landed on My Father's Barbeque and I remembered hearing radio ads from the local radio station. as we pulled in the whole strip mall is under construction. Parking was easy but there's no marquee signs on the building nor addresses so we had to look for a small banner on the chain-link fence out in front of the business. We walked in and the hostess was taking a phone order and right away the Chef said WELCOME! and came over to greet us and showed us the limited menu since they and just reopened due to the construction, she told us items they had but were not on the board. The young lady thanked us for waiting and asked if she could help us. Ok many have said the customer service was bad but that was not our experience, we had very pleasant and friendly the WHOLE time we were here! We placed our order 2 dinner plates - 1- 2 meats(brisket& pulled pork) w/bacon potato salad & greens; 1-1 meat(rib tips) w/macaroni & cheese & beans. As we were waiting they offered some Texas toast, they checked on us as we were waiting and time seemed to go by. I think we waited about 20 minutes for our food to come. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing! Hot food was hot and cold food was cold. The meats were seasoned well and very tender. The macaroni & cheese was cheesy and tasted great. The greens were cooked with cabbage and smoked turkey, the beans had a slight sweetness and had some brisket pieces and the potato salad was made with red potatoes with the skin left on it. It was filled with onions, celery and bacon yummy! While there Chef Sharlamar Lane came over and introduced herself again and checked in to see how everything was tasting. We gave her our honest opinions and she appreciated us for coming in. We had the opportunity to taste the brisket chili fries......OMG y'all those were fire and the fries were still crispy even though all the veggie, chilli, chees & brisket were on top. Oh we also got some peach cobbler which was heavy on the crust, it wasn't too sweet and it tasted really good. Overall this was a really amazing meal and enough food for left overs. i love supporting our black-owed businesses and putting the $$$ back into our communities. Please go visit My Father's Barbeque in about 3 weeks when they're up and running back to normal with all the favorite food options on the menu, we'll definitely be back to get the whole experience. Food - 10 Service - 10 Ambiance - 10 Price - $$$ (you get what you pay for)
I'll start off with saying the service was trash off the rippa!!!! The young lady was nice but she knew nothing about waiting tables or taking orders, if she's new I'll give a pass but the knowing to bringing people water and bread for the table should come naturally. I'll jump into the food it was a$$$$$$$!!!! I'm sorry but coming from Texas this is not smoked meat!!!! This is steamed at most!!!! My turkey was hot on the outside ice cold in the middle, my Mac and cheese taste like a white handkerchief (had no taste) my cabbage greens had a lot of vinegar, I'm ok with a dab but it was ounces. The brisket should've been a treat but it was really fatty no flavor. The wings were decent the sauce made them edible. I would say improve on your sides and the art of smoking meat!!!! Out of the 3 dishes I'll give 1 star each. I might give them another shot just to see if they were having an off day
Ordered the brisket platter and while the meat had a good flavor, it was very fatty- not much of the meat was edible! Baked beans were good, Mac n cheese was just okay! I honestly was a bit disappointed because I felt like I paid $22 and waited 30 minutes on a lunch plate only to eat a few bites from the sides!

There wasn't any meat at all. The chicken sausage was really good and juicy. The brisket was tender.
Reallllly good BBQ food. The beans caught me off guard being my favorite side dish. The sweet potatoes were my second favorite dish and the toast was a great addition. The spicy bbq sauce was great.

I was picking up lunch from another restaurant and while I waited, I went on my trusty Yelp app to see what else was around and realized that My Father's BBQ was in the same shopping center. I figured, why not pick up dinner... Been awhile since I'd had BBQ. I ordered a two meat combo with two sides. I chose the pork ribs and brisket, since they didn't have the beef links. The lady was super nice and she suggested calling before to see what meats they had for the day. She did say that with Covid, deliveries had not been easy, which I can totally understand. The meat smelled very good when I opened it. You could definitely smell that they smoke it. The ribs were delicious, meaty, and tender! I have to say that while the pork ribs were a good portion, the brisket was not. I had major hunks of fat attached to mine. If it's weighed like most BBQ places do, it would have been nice if they'd added a little extra meat, seeing how the big hunks of fat were inedible...at least for me. My dog sure enjoyed the fat! You can choose to get your sauce on the meat or on the side. I chose on the side, simply because I like to taste the seasoning on my meats before I add the sauce. I feel like sauces should enhance the flavor, not be the flavor. I like that they offer mild, medium, and hot BBQ sauce. I chose the hot and it was very good. I also like that it was rather thick. I hate super thin BBQ sauce, so that was a nice surprise. I ordered the greens and yams for the sides. The greens were good, but very mildly flavored. I was surprised that it wasn't straight greens, but greens and cabbage, which is still a good combination. I did have to add a little salt and pepper for flavor. The yams did not do it for me...I really hate to say that. They were not flavorful at all, and even worse was that several of the larger chunks of sweet potatoes were still hard, not fully cooked. Besides needing to be cooked longer, they also needed more cinnamon and brown sugar. I could have easily added that to doctor it up, but with the uncooked chunks, there was no point. Overall the food and customer service was great! I would definitely go back again. I want to try more of their meats and sides, including the brisket chili! They also give a discount for ILWU, which I thought was fantastic! So don't forget to show your card for discount. They are very Covid friendly, taking in person walk up orders, as well as phone and online orders. They also offer large family and party meals, which is great for the holidays or if you just don't feel like cooking.
Awesome Experience and Excellent BBQ. Me and My partner had briskets nad BBQ RIBS and they were offthe hook. I support everyton in the area to visit , your promise to be satifeied. This might be the best bbq joint in Souther California. I was immensely impressed with the items I got to try. First was the loaded fries. I honestly don't think I can eat loaded fries anymore unless it's from My Father's BBQ. So much flavor and the sauce's compliment each bite. The turkey leg with the Mac & cheese was also delicious. The turkey leg here destroys any turkey leg including the one sold in Disneyland. The bbq plater with the ribs, brisket, chicken, and chicken sausage was good. You can eat the ribs without sauce but if you add their house made sauces it doesn't hurt either. The inside gives me texas and Alabama vibes and it's very clean and neat and TVs around to catch a game. If you're a bbq lover you should add this place to your list.
I'm so disappointed. Came here hungry and was excited, got here before 5 pm and waited 10 minutes just to place my order? Why? there was not a line in front of me! finally get to order but you are out of iced tea, mashed potatoes, and greens, how it's not even 5 pm! ok whatever, now I wait 20 minutes, n nothing. another 5 minutes n I get water n bread. wait another 10 minutes to get room temperature food, no drink or utensils. come on really! my brisket is mostly fat, and now I listen to the cook threaten to walk out, while 2 other employees watch her rant! dirty tables too I would rather have good hot food without the side show! and after all that she stayed! My Father should tighten up his house!
First and foremost, yes, it's expensive. I had the 2 meat combo 2 sides and a roll: $34. I had Angus Brisket and bbq chicken plus baked beans and coleslaw. Both Brisket and Chicken were smoked to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy. Had the spicy bbq sauce. Perfect. Pricey but worth it. Pls don't change.

Every time I come here I have a somewhat bad experience. Not with the ppl but with the food I really like this place a lot & I love to support my ppl. But the 1st time I went, they didn't have chicken & I was the first person when they opened up. Not really a problem. Now the next time I went, I ordered thru yelp. Yelp tells me my food is read for pick up, I go to pick it up. I get there, and my food isn't ready. The representative tells me, it's going to take 10 more minutes. No problem. I wait & she brings me 2 hot links after waiting 20 MINUTES. I said "I thought it came with 3..?"...She states "They're usually cut up but these are thicker" That makes no sense. The menu said 3 you brought me 2. The menu doesn't say "3 link dinner or 2 thicker ones for the same price" smh I'm so disappointed. Good ppl but horrible when it comes to the way they present their food. And the food is good but I've been let down each time. read more

Was looking for some savory soul food on a Sunday after service and had no luck in a few spots that were closed in Long Beach. I am a Carson native but had never been to My Fathers BBQ before. My grandma remembered the name and we went. Ngl the wait was a bit but it was well worth it. The catfish was light and crispy and came with a delicious hot sauce. The Mac and cheese, yams and black eyed peas were the other sides I chose and I must say I was thoroughly impressed! I really don't like yams and man those were seasoned perfectly. My grandma got rib tips and she loved it. Will definitely be back. Can't believe I've never been. Also the service was very good! read more

I'm a first timer here and decided to dine in with my fam. Currently waiting for my food but so far I've had the buy one get one mimosa...A MUST TRY! Now everyone knows how picky I am when it comes to silverware from a restaurant. Our waiter came out with the silverware and I swear he was back there polishing it because they looked brand spankin' new. A+ so far. can't wait for my food to come out. Lunch time from a class at Cal State Dominguez Hills with a half hour was just in time here at My Father's BBQ. I was a little sad that they didn't have tri tip, but when I saw their brisket I was ok with it. Smelled great inside as their well seasoned smoker is behind the counter. My buddy and I had the same sandwich, brisket. Served on Texas toast was different as I assumed it was coming out on a roll. The meat was tender, flavorful and very very tasty. I had their bbq sauce on the side. Their fries were good and my buddy got the collared greens which were amazing. Will def be back. read more

I have never eaten at this establishment. For the simple fact that it never smells like barbecue when I pull up, so I'm always like "naw". But today prove me right. I ordered a single meat, two side dish and was very disappointing. The greens were beyond salty and had a very weird film on them. The potato salad was between mashed potatoes and onion powder were the only flavors I was getting. The star of the show, which were my rib tips were so dry ,overcooked and old they were like jerky! I called to the restaurant to complain about my meal and when I went back, it took not only 15 to 20 minutes for them to get me a new order, but they did not even have what I ordered back in my new order. Totally disappointed with the food, but the customer service was great. read more

I tried to support a local black business and look how they did me. This is beyond the scraps. I ordered a pound of rib tips and they served me these burnt, old, hard tips. I know times is hard for everyone and y'all probably didn't want to waste, but this should have been thrown in the trash. This is unacceptable to serve to a customer. Y'all quality and quantity don't match y'all prices. I don't recommend and I will not ever be back. It's too many other bbq spots out here to be served this garbage. read more
I give them a 4 for the following reasons: -Perfect combo of smoked meat with a touch of BBQ sauce that doesn't overwhelm the flavor -Rib sandwich -Pulled Pork sandwich -real men cook! Where else in SoCal will you find real men grilling holding the food fort down! -great customer service. The line moves fast and you get your food fast. It's a 3 for these reasons: - the corn and Mac was cold. I get it, as they only can do so much with what they're working with, but let's not waste food bc it fills the plate up. Idea: create an app, let ppl order from their seats and come pick it up in 1min of being ready or you can give their order away! read more

Let's talk BBQ... my belly is stuffed with happiness! So much I thought about driving back to give the cook a hug and a kiss! In a little strip mall, nothing fancy... but open the door an your senses will be going crazy for that smoky meat! I ordered 2 item combo with 2 sides & Texas toast. $16.95 I was told 15-20 min wait.. no problem.. the employees hustling around the kitchen area. Looks like most people get the food to-go. Although I was starving I decided to take it home too but before I got home, let's just say as soon as I got in my car I needed to sneak a bite.. Pulled pork was so juicy! Oh man... I gotta get home.. 10 min drive seemed like forever! Couldn't get the container out of the bag quick enough.. a true "in the moment" love affair.. with each bite I melted a little more.. DAMN THIS IS GOOD BBQ!! Pulled pork, brisket, collards and cabbage.. SAY WHAT! Now let's talk about that Mac & Cheese.... SAY CHEESE!! Don't let the no frills turn you off.. I'm not a BBQ expert by any means but the brisket here is hands-down the best I've had. The brisket was so well seasoned and tender. It literally melted in your mouth! I also got a side of mac n cheese and it was delicious. It's not as cheesy as other places. It's definitely a hole in the wall, I probably would've never visited if it wasn't a recommendation. The restaurant itself even has that homey-feel with red and white checkered table cloths. The staff was also very welcoming, just like someone welcoming you to their home! read more

Last weekend we visited the Long Beach BBQ festival and came across this BBQ place that had a booth at the festival. So as a Yelper I started Yelping the business to see what their ratings is.... The food looked good so we were willing to give it a try. We got a 1/3 LB of ribs ($12.00) and I have to say that it was some of the meatiest ribs I have ever had in my whole life... After eating all the meat, there would be a tiny bone left....Unlike some other Ribs that mostly are bones and alittle of meat, this BBQ place was really worth to spend money at.... The meat itself was delicious... It had a dry rub and was soaked in tangy BBQ sauce... I really liked everything about the ribs. I doubt I would ever go to Carson to try this place again, but if I ever come across their BBQ stand in the next BBQ festival, I will surely spend a buck or two! read more

I'm from Kansas City! I am often arrogant about my BBQ, but tonight I was humbled! Not only is this some of the BEST BBQ I have ever had, but hands down these are the best Beef Burnt Ends I have ever had!!!! The BBQ Beans are awesome, the Potato Salad superb and the Cornbread was perfect! But...The warm BlackBerry Cobbler with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel is frankly orgasmic! I am so impressed with the food here, that I am writing this review while still here! The picture is of Chef and Owner Shalamar Lane. She and her Dad are treasures. Make the trip, and don't miss this extraordinary food and their awesome staff! What a surprise...This Kansas City Boy is humbled. read more
