Well we tried it. My Father's BBQ and for the record this is a women owned business. And that is a wonderful thing! Chef and owner and first ever ive known of in this type of restaurant. Saturday of the 4th weekend and it was pretty busy. BE PREPARED TO WAIT!! Maybe you can call ahead, I'm not sure. We waited 1.5 hours for a slab of beef ribs, beef hot links, brisket, Mac n cheese, collards, and bbq baked beans. For the record all of you complaining about the wait, stop. All of you complaining about the brisket being fatty and dry, stop. For the record brisket is a fatty cut, so do your homework. Beef ribs are my favorite BBQ so I was pleasantly surprised. Brisket was very tender. Beef links, I really enjoyed. They have great kicky spices! Wonderful smoke rings on the meats! What I think makes this bbq a little different is all the meat is dry rubbed. (Not the links) and the flavorful sauce is on the side for dipping and slathering. Try with out sauce and with see which you like, you have the option. Collards greens were ok. I really enjoyed the MnC, delish and pasta was not over done and it was not dried out. Bbq baked beans were really good! This place is in Carson and for socal bbq it's the best I've tasted. The food was good and the service at the counter was good, but the food took about 45 min to be served. I ended up asking for take out instead. During my wait they kept running out of sides and, I was asked to change my order twice because food kept running out. I decided to stay and wait for my order because my order was paid for and by then I had been there for at least 30 minutes. By the time we made it back home the food was cold and my family was not hungry anymore. We did NOT enjoy the food at all we were over it. Was looking for some savory soul food on a Sunday after service and had no luck in a few spots that were closed in Long Beach. I am a Carson native but had never been to My Fathers BBQ before. My grandma remembered the name and we went. Ngl the wait was a bit but it was well worth it. The catfish was light and crispy and came with a delicious hot sauce. The Mac and cheese, yams and black eyed peas were the other sides I chose and I must say I was thoroughly impressed! I really don't like yams and man those were seasoned perfectly. My first experience here years ago was great. Today I placed an order for a friend who can't get out due to COVID19 restrictions. I didn't mind. I would be in the area when they opened at 11. I just got the order at 12:53. This is that crap that keeps my people on the bottom... not the product, not the cleanliness but the DAMN customer service!!!! I'm am sooooo freaking mad right now!! The waitress said she would call back in 15 minutes with a total so I could bring cash because she wasn't sure if the machine worked so prepare to bring both. 12:00- I pull in lot and call because I haven't gotten a call. She said... let me check. She checks and I'm told it's almost ready. Ok... remember... she has a new baby... patience Felicia. 12:20- I walk up to see if it's ready. I am told "we will call you with the total. ( At this point I have forgotten all of the good vibes I received at church and I want to walk the hell away!!!! But I press on. 12:48- call... I don't answer. I walk up only to be told I need EXACT FREAKIN CHANGE for an order I didn't receive the damn total on at 11:15!!!! I'm too close to walk away now, so I return to my car, get the damn change of $.78 and go back to get the damn order!! ITS JUST A BRISKET BAKED POTATO!!!! She hands me the order through the other door and I return to my car at 12:53. There was no apology. No free dessert. No coupon or gift certificate. Hell I didn't even get napkins or utensils!!!!! First time here. I was in the area so I decided to try this place. Very clean establishment located in an outdoor mall. Plenty of parking but it does gets very busy during lunch rush hours. I ordered 3 meat Combo with brisket, pork ribs and chicken with Mac and Cheese and BBQ Baked Beans. The meats was tender, but very dry, tasteless and bland. I was very disappointed! Ya know, when a joint sells outta stuff, it's because people are buying! Late one day I went in and there was still brisket- had that and a couple sides, Mac salad and beans. All of it was tasty. If I fault the brisket, it was a bit dry from the slicing- but the sauce took care of that. Got some fat which I like and a bit of burnt end which I love. The sides had great flavor. I ordered a single meat, two side dish and was very disappointing. The greens were beyond salty and had a very weird film on them. The potato salad was between mashed potatoes and onion powder were the only flavors I was getting. The star of the show, which were my rib tips were so dry ,overcooked and old they were like jerky! I called to the restaurant to complain about my meal and when I went back, it took not only 15 to 20 minutes for them to get me a new order, but they did not even have what I ordered back in my new order. Yelp tells me my food is read for pick up, I go to pick it up. I get there, and my food isn't ready. The representative tells me, it's going to take 10 more minutes. No problem. I had heard of this restaurant on the radio for quite some time. I was excited to go there. The atmosphere was what I expected of a small soul food restaurant. The soulful music added a familiar flair of the culture. I ordered the catfish, greens, mac & cheese. The sides were very good. The catfish was over breaded for my taste. I did not care for the sweet tea. It was not homemade and you could tell from the first sip. The service was good. We were greeted with a smile and the waitress was attentive. I'm not a big fan of brisket -- prefer pork bar-b-que -- but this brisket was simply fabulous. Moist, tender with a great smokey flavor. Sauces are good, too. Lunch time from a class at Cal State Dominguez Hills with a half hour was just in time here at My Father's BBQ. I was a little sad that they didn't have tri tip, but when I saw their brisket I was ok with it. Smelled great inside as their well seasoned smoker is behind the counter. My buddy and I had the same sandwich, brisket. Served on Texas toast was different as I assumed it was coming out on a roll. The meat was tender, flavorful and very very tasty. Terrible. Maybe it was the holiday weekend but everything yesterday was just terrible. We didn't mind the two hour wait for our food. It was the attention to detail and good that was terrible. Then our order came out missing two loaded potatoes and the trimmings for the salmon dinner. So we waited for another 20-30 minutes. Then we get home and our coleslaw is spoiled. We stopped by today for their soft opening and it was 100% worth it. We finished our food before we could even take pictures of it!!We had the brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese, beans, and potato salad. Brisket and pulled pork were SO TENDER and delicious . Potato salad was very fresh, you could see and taste the fresh dill, hints of bacon and onions. The macaroni and cheese was CHEESY and seasoned. Everything was so good. Customer service was fantastic, everyone was super friendly and grateful for the support. We were the first customers for the day so the greens and cookies were still cooking but I'm sure they are also delicious. We are eagerly awaiting the full re-opening and will be back again. When I arrived 45 minutes later to pick it up, the lady at the counter said they don't have any chicken or turkey! What barbecue place doesn't have chicken?! She didn't say that they had run out, but made it sound like they didn't have it available. Weird. About six months ago my wife went there and placed an order. She waited over 45 minutes with no end in sight, so she canceled the order and left. This place does have good barbecue, but their service is awful. I'm not a BBQ expert by any means but the brisket here is hands-down the best I've had. The brisket was so well seasoned and tender. It literally melted in your mouth! I also got a side of mac n cheese and it was delicious. It's not as cheesy as other places. It's definitely a hole in the wall, I probably would've never visited if it wasn't a recommendation. I've been living in Carson, literally three minutes from here and finally tried it tonight. I wished I could say it was worth the wait but I was disappointed by some and other things were passed. Let's start with the good- Mac and cheese was pretty decent, I give it a 4 out of 5. The Texas toast was good. I had four pieces, unfortunately half were burnt and half weren't.The Turkey leg was the best I've had in a long time. Unfortunately it more I didn't care for than did. The butter corn bread was burnt and I didn't like the sweet sauce on it. The chicken link tasted weird. It didn't have any flavor and was mushy like they were soaked in water. The greens and cabbage were so bland. I guess they were just cooked after washing without any seasoning. I really wished I had better things to say but this is my honest review. I don't think I would go back to try something else. I ordered my food online about five hours before I picked it up. I arrived 15 minutes after pick up time and received a text saying my order was ready soon as I walked in. I let the lady at the register know and she took about 7 minutes to bring me my food. One of my sides were wrong and it took them about another 5 minutes to switch it to the right side. Not only is this some of the BEST BBQ I have ever had, but hands down these are the best Beef Burnt Ends I have ever had!!!!
