Last night I went to the All About Chicken class. I was a little nervous because I went alone, and…read morebecause I'm not that comfortable in the kitchen. Honestly, I don't really like to cook. But I had a gift card so off I went. Patty welcomed me into her beautiful home ... a fire going and nice music, and I met the three others in our class, one of whom also came alone. A sip of wine later and I was facing my own naked bird at my own station in her huge kitchen -- on my own board with my own knives -- waiting to be cut up. Patty was so patient with me ... helping me hold the knife, find the joints ... and before I knew it I had six beautiful pieces ready to be prepared in 3 different recipes. We cooked every last part of those birds along with a delicious rice dish and sat down a few hours later to a leisurely meal admiring our work. We could have stayed there until the wee hours at her table, the four of us and Patty; we felt completely at home. (Except that she cleaned up!) She also does children's classes. My kids went this summer. She was excellent with keeping them all on task and managing her kitchen with six messy little ones having a ball. Oh --- and she does a Thai class ... that's the one I want to do next. I ate as much as I could. I left with the rest of my food in to go containers ready to serve my family today, and with the confidence to cook again tomorrow. I feel so confident now ... I want to try chopping onions and swirling butter and making my own stock at home.

I asked the event host who made all the delicious treats and was introduced to Patty. She was very kind, personable, and encouraged me to keep eating! She is so knowledgeable and does a great job educating and answering questions. This more than made up for our horrible experience at Sur La Table several months ago. Helen takes time to ask everyone at the beginning what our questions are going into the class and what we hope to learn, and at the end of the class does a whole Q&A session. She prints of recipes, shopping guides, and includes links to her YouTube videos on the recipes, she even included a bonus recipe for us just because she thinks it's delicious. Helen is worth every penny, can't recommend her enough. It was a great date night!

Chef Jay is very warm and communicative and was easy to work with when considering menu options and making final recipe decisions for our lesson. Everything can be tailored to your interests, tastes, and the degree of challenge you're looking to tackle. We decided on tofu parmesan, homemade pasta, and a summer tomato sauce. The food was absolutely delicious--I ate every bite! His teaching style is approachable and inclusive. The conversation was great, as well, making for an all-around wonderful evening. Even as a non-vegan, I would highly recommend booking Chef Jay for a unique date night, a team-building exercise, as a gift, or as a fun activity for the entire family. 2nd year back and it won't be our last!…read more What a fabulous vacation retreat! Feels like a little slice of coastal heaven. The location and decor make this such a relaxing place. Easy to sit for hours in the sunroom or on the rooftop deck, take in the sun and watch the birds and boat activity on the Mystic River. It's hard to find rentals with access to a deep water dock. And this dock is perfect. My husband went out fishing on his boat nearly every day. And when he came home with flounder, we cooked up a great meal in the fully equipped gourmet kitchen. Plenty of restaurants close by if you don't feel like cooking though. Glori and Chuck are also wonderful hosts and very thoughtful and responsive. Can't say enough good things about them.

We were lucky enough to enjoy incredible late summer/early fall weather for the length of our stay. But I would gladly stay there in rainy or snowy weather. My husband and I most enjoyed the sunsets and our two boys loved the HUGE level yard. The home is located on the small Mason's Island, but less than 2 miles from adorable downtown Mystic and many other destinations/conveniences. We have already booked a return stay and are so looking forward to it.

We enjoyed making apple crisp in the first of a series of classes focused on the ABC's which included preparing and mixing ingredients, sampling different kinds of apples and charting individual taste preferences, using crayons to draw their favorite apple on a copy of the recipe to take home and finally story time with a book that tied into the theme while waiting for the apple crisp to bake. The children were all kindly asked to wash their hands prior to handling any ingredients and were kept incredibly safe with activities designed to keep them away from the oven and used kid friendly kitchen tools in preparation of ingredients. So to start with big parking problem…read more If your child is in only one performance ( which is not til after intermission) she is required to stay in the dressing room alone until that dance. Very expensive for classes, costumes and tickets to the recital. During one of her classes was told what she needed for her dance. Then during dress rehearsal the owner made me pay 10 for tights that was told she did not need , because the costume was a sweat suit and no one would see them. She told me that I was told she had to have them, one thing I hate is for someone to call me a liar. If was told she needed them she would have had them. When I told her I would get them on Amazon she said I couldn't do that they would not be the same color as the others.
