We came here on the Surf and turf buffet night. I had made reservations a couple weeks in advance, which I would recommend, as the line up for this restaurant can be quite long on the buffet night. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We started off with a plate of snow crab legs, which were very good, fun and messy, but we were brought a bunch of those moist towelettes which helped us clean up after. The highlight of the buffet was a seafood bisque, which I know doesn't sound like anything special, but WOW, was it ever good! Huge chunks of salmon, baby shrimp and clams in a tomato cream sauce. It was amazing! Most of the rest of the food we tried was great, a few lack lister items but that is expected at a buffet. There was a chocolate fountain and lots of delicious desserts as well. Another great meal at the Kitchen. I am trying to work my way through the menu and this night it was shrimp tacos. The shrimp was accompanied by chipolte aioli, lettuce, pico de gallo, pickles, and avocado lime crema. For my soup I asked for the soup of the day which happened to be Moroccan beef. My husband went with the butcher's sandwich which contained onions, dijon, shaved beef adn red wine au jus. He got a side of fries. Kiddo got the alfredo pasta. Food came out in a timely manner. The staff here are quick and wonderful despite being a full house. They are also friendly. Food was delicous as usual. I really enjoyed my soup. The flavours were full and fantastic. The prawns in the tacos were cooked perfectly. However they could of used more pico de gallo and chipolte aioli. Kiddo loved her pasta. My husband enjoyed his sandwich but this time the fries were way too salty. Ambiance is nothing to write home about. No reservations for the buffet so we planned to arrive at 12:30 and had heard that if you have to wait, they'll text you and you can visit the casino while you wait. We didn't have to wait and were seated right away. The service was cordial and welcoming. We found the buffet to be good value for price. There were omelette stations without a wait, lots of breads, muffins, waffles, pancakes and croissants. There's bacon, sausage, benedicts, meats, cheeses, fruit and more. There's a good brunchy vibe, unrushed, relaxing, and home-style without the cooking and the dishes. Lots of parking and of course, the casino to enjoy before or after brunch. read more

For example, the brisket was good but not a top notch smoked brisket like I have had elsewhere. But nothing was outright bad. And as a buffet there was lots to try. Including a dessert buffet. Google Maps did a great job of getting me here considering its a little tricky to find the right road to the front door. Located just west of Edmonton it was fairly easy to get to. It has a huge parking lot but it is a fair walk to the main doors - not as appealing in the winter or icy weather. But it was wheelchair accessible. The restaurant was easy to find and we were seated quickly after proof of vaccination was given. The restaurant is quite large and feels classy and romantic. There were very few other customers so we had lots of room and the staff were very attentive. The waitress was very friendly and took our drink orders moments after we were seated. We knew we wanted the special - all you can eat ribs, but the menu had some great options as well. My nephew's chicken fingers came smoking hot and a full 7minutes before our entrees which was great because he was Hungry. Water glasses were topped off regularly and the waitress came by regularly to see if we wanted more orders. The ribs themselves were very tender but the BBQ sauce was quite spicy and definitely limited how many ribs I could eat. Sadly there was only 1 type of flavor available. The kettle chips and coleslaw were great sides and the ?mustardayo sauce for the chips was interesting. 2nds and 3rds came with extra coleslaw and kettle chips which was a pleasant surprise. The kettle chips were not fresh but instead the order came exceptionally fast. My nephew's chicken finger and fries were fresh and delicious as well. You line up to get in and line up for mediocre food. No line up for the salad bar though so that was ok. But the hot, meaty food will have you waiting. I ate a bit of salad, shrimp, pasta, perogies, and lamb. And it was ok, not bad but not good either. The dessert area was pretty sad. Empty plates with nothing on them. Busy night and not able to keep up. I managed to scrounge up a piece of cake that looked good but taste was ok. Lines to the buffet was a bit tight and unclear on buffet etiquette if you could start in the middle to get something or had to start at the beginning. A bit pricey in my opinion. Looking for a quiet, low key place to enjoy a delicious dinner? Then don't come here. The atmosphere at Kitchen Buffet & Bistro is loud and hectic and the food has all the charm of a wet sponge soaked in formaldehyde. The meat is pink and chewy like bubble gum, the pasta is like soft plastic covered in ketchup, and the potatoes taste like a weird combo of milk and baking soda. I'm not a food snob but this place makes me feel like one. They don't have any decent desserts either. No ice cream machine or even any cookies. All they have are dry, crusty squares cut into small pieces like you'd find at a church bake sale. At least the church would sell them homemade. The desserts here look as if they were cut from one of those giant slab thingies like you buy at Costco. I don't get why so many people come here. There's usually a long line of customers in the hallway outside desperate to get in. You'd think it was a methadone clinic or a brothel. It must be the cheap food. Did I mention it was 2-for-1 night? A few people even had Tupperware containers with them so they could squirrel some food away to take home. After standing in line to get inside there's another line-up in the buffet area to get fed. The buffet isn't set up in a central area for convenience like at Buffet Royale. Nope. Kitchen Buffet & Bistro is designed like a high school cafeteria where you have to stand in a congested line along the inner perimeter of the room. This way you get the added joy of having the person behind you grind their crotch against your ass as they reach over your shoulder to scoop up some dry penne that they're about to be standing beside in 30 seconds anyway. It's like a bunch of animals fighting over which one gets to stick their snout in the trough first. Buffets really bring out the class in people. If you like noise and cheap, hastily cooked processed food you'll like it here. If you enjoy people running laps around your table as they make their way back to the buffet assembly line to get their 8th plate of Wal-Mart shrimp you have to come here. The Kitchen is one of the dining establishments at the River Cree Resort & Casino, located just outside of Edmonton's city limits on the Enoch reserve. It is a large, open space with tables and booths, excellent lighting, and unassuming decor. I won a gift certificate for the restaurant a while back, and decided to treat a couple of my friends to an evening out. We were all incredibly impressed with the buffet, which served a wide range of food with quality, style, and selection. I have never been to a buffet with such high class food. Starting with the salads, I enjoyed spring mix greens, wild rice with chicken, and an incredibly flavourful and unique turkey with pineapple salad, which was exactly as described: large chunks of turkey and pineapple brought together in a light, creamy dressing. Next, was a selection of seafood such as crab legs, mussels, and smoked whitefish. The seafood was served ice cold, and looked very fresh. Due to dietary restrictions I only sampled the whitefish, which was delicious but would have been better had it been fully thawed before serving. There was a bread service, roasted potatoes, vegetables, pasta dishes, and a chef's station serving up stir-fries. The final part of the buffet were the main courses, which on this evening included fried chicken in a sweet chili sauce, skirt steak in peppercorn sauce, a fish dish, and a jambalaya. The steak and chicken made the meal for me - both were excellent, with the sauces adding flavour without overwhelming. Then came dessert. The desserts are in a separate area and include fresh fruit, cakes, and a hot dessert. You can accent your sweet treats with a variety of toppings such as whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and caramel. I sampled the black forest cake, brownies, strawberry shortcake, and pumpkin pie. Unlike the meager slivers served at most buffets, the pieces here were of substantial sizes. I did not care for the hot dessert, which was mincemeat, but someone else at my table enjoyed it. A trip to The Kitchen is just a short drive and worth the trip. On a Saturday evening the buffet will cost you $19.95, and on most other nights it is only around $15. There is a lunch buffet available most days. Beverages cost extra. The coffee is excellent. Awful! We were at the River Cree to see a concert at 8. We arrived at the restaurant at 6. We placed our order almost immediately. Three people got their rib specials in about 1/2 hour. The rest of the food did not arrive so we told them to eat or it would get cold. Everyone was finished their meal and we still hadn't got our dinners yet. So we asked the waiter to look into it. He disappears for another 15 minutes. We flagged the manager down and told him the situation. His response was did you all order at the same time? Seriously?! You're turning this back on us?! Now it's 20 minutes to 8 and we finally get our food which we had to inhale due to the concert. We get our bills and are notified that gratuity was included because we were a table of 8! And to add insult to injury the manager passes by and says too bad you're in a hurry or I would have bought you dessert. Really?!?! How about an apology or comping us our beverages at least! We had dinner here on Sunday May 21 and I can honestly say it was my worst meal ever. Three of us ordered dinner at just before 7pm. The restaurant was not busy and most people were at the buffet. We ordered off the menu and it took over an hour for our dinner to arrive. We ordered two medium rare steaks- what arrived were 2 very very well done steaks with little to no colour on the inside. There was absolutely no seasoning on the steak. It was literally just a steak cooked on a grill. If you told me they boiled it, I would believe you. The mashed potatoes were "whipped" but actually just creamed potato purée. If you grabbed a spoon full and rotated your spoon it would pour off the spoon without effort. It also has no sat or pepper or any form of seasoning. Our other friend ordered the Bannock Taco. It's really hard to mess up a taco but for 20$ it was very sub par. It was a basic Americanized Taco. Over all it was an $110 meal. We had tickets to a show at 9 and at 830 the server asked us if we wanted dessert. We asked if it would take long since dinner took so long. He became defensive and said dinner didn't take long. We told him it was over an hour and then defensively stated the chefs were busy. We could see the chefs. They honestly weren't. The waiter never offered us drink refills or checked to see how the food was. The gluten free bread they gave me was cold. Any chef worth his money knows toast or buns with dinner should be warm. Over all, I have next to no desire to return to this restaurant as this experience was so disappointing. I am not a good cook and I know I could have made a better dish. Hands down, best buffet in Edmonton. Buffet food doesn't get better than this. The difference between here and the other buffet's is quality of food. Every dish seems to be made out of fresh and high quality produce. You don't get questionably salad leaves. You don't get eye-brow raising meat. Best yet, you get to see the cooks cook infront of you the featured hot plates. Salads are probably the only thing that doesn't change as you get a good selection of garden greens, caesar, and a mixture of macaroni/potatoe/pea salads. After that, depending on the day, is always changing. I recommend going on a prime rib night and a seafood night. I have yet to try NY Striploin night. But for $19.95, you honestly get more than what you pay for. Even non-alcoholic drinks are included; I recommend getting fresh juice. Then there's the dessert bar which I always struggle to get to because i'm having meat sweats. Waitresses are cleaning dishes in timely manner so it is nice to see that you are well taken care of. So Saturday night i called my loyal apprentices to see if they wanted to do brunch Sunday afternoon. they said yes and i said hey lets try the buffet place in the casino. Sunday rolls around, I was late, my apprentices...my younger sister and her boyfriend (shout outs to Kerol and Rikki)...so lets start to right when I entered the restaurant...Hostess (HOTTIE...schwing) very nice and pleasant to talk too. Sat down with my apprentices and they had started already. This is how I mapped out my route for the buffet: Salad Breakfast Lunch Seconds Dessert So the Salad bar had a mix of greens with with different dressings and toppings, beside it there was some very artful tastefule creations like yellow and red tomato and fresh mozzarella topped with some balsamic and olive oil, there was smoked salmon with some creme tartar thinly sliced with cucumber, cocktail shrimp in a shot glass with cocktail sauce...a few of the dishes there...very good! Breakfast area they had bacon, sausage, eggs benedict, waffles, crusted salmon, roast beef, au gratin, steamed veggies, oatmeal, roasted potatoes, omelette maker, egg maker, fruit, cereal area, milk, yop...yes I said yop. There was a lil table that had mini burgers...he told it wasn't good so i stayed away from there. it also came with mini ketchup bottles. Ah...dessert, various cakes and cheese cakes and a chocolate fondue foutain, not a big fan of the fountain deal... Overall nice venue, you can gamble after you eat...I lost $60 dollars...hehehe...oh and to the hottie hostess...you had your hair up and the blue top under the black suit...you were cleaning the floor. Thoroughly enjoyed Wednesday's "Rib And Chops" night. The theme tonight was, you guessed it, BBQ Ribs and Lamb Chops. Some highlights: The tandoori chicken skewers were amazing. While not strictly tandoori--it had more of a satay, peanuty flavor--it was definitely the hightlight of the meal. I had about eight of those by the time the evening was done. The German sausage was very good, it tasted pretty lean. The ribs! Wow! They refreshed them constantly, and these were some of the best ribs I've had at a buffet outside of Vegas. The crepe station was a nice touch. They don't actually cook the crepes from scratch, but they have these precooked crepes that they make in back, then an attendant cooks it for you on a skillet while you wait, with butter and brown sugar, throwing in a hefty portion of alcohol (I thought it was bourbon). When it's done, you can put berry sauce, caramel, and whipped cream on top. Very delicious. Also loved the fruit cake dessert served in individual glasses, and the creme brulee. Though for the brulee, I wish it was served more like a standard brulee, with hardened sugar on the top. What I didn't like as much: The lamb chops were a little fatty for my tastes, but others at the table enjoyed them. The perogies didn't taste like much to me. My husband and I checked out brunch here on a Saturday with some friends, using the BOGO coupons available to members of the players club. The players club discount is a good value, and there's a lot of food for brunch. I was hoping that there would be some savory lunch food to go along with the breakfast food, but it was a huge spread of fruit, cereal, eggs, potatoes, waffles, French toast and made-to-order omelettes. The food wasn't mind blowing but it was overall pretty good and I enjoyed the meal. Came here tonight for my parents anniversary dinner and we always have a good time here. The dinner buffet for steak night tonight is at around $22 per adult, and considering that you can go back for steak as many times as you want it's a bang for your buck. Traditional buffet set up, salads first, cold entrees such as smoked salmon, pickled fish, clams etc. Then come the starches like mashed potatos, rice pilaf and assorted veggies! The steak tonight was exceptionally good. TIP: If you don't like your meat medium rare like they cut for you, you can always ask them to grill it and they'll happily oblige!!! I'm always a bit wary of buffets, which have a tendency to offer old, bland food and very little actual variety (I exclude Pampa's salad buffet from this, simply because it's fantastic). Kitchen, however, pleasantly surprised me. Everything seemed fresh and there were cooks/chefs on hand to refill anything that might be running low. Even the mussels were cooked regularly in a tangy tomato sauce, so that diners received them hot and freshly made. While the majority of the buffet options were fairly decent - especially the Parisienne Potatoes and the Tortellini - the main draw, of course, was the crab legs. Served on a bed of ice, Kitchen had tubs full of moderately-sized legs filled with plenty of meat. I expected them to be tiny (Red Lobster-style), but they were a good size. And there were so many of them to go around! Pair that with a tub of melted butter for the avid dippers, and you've got yourselves an enjoyable seafood meal. I'm used to Chinatown crab - fried in dry spices and chili peppers and served piping hot - so cold crab legs aren't my usual choice. Nevertheless, I was content. And I've never eaten so much crab in my life. A word of warning - eating crab legs is inherently messy (which adds to the fun), but you'll leave the restaurant reeking of seafood...especially when you crack open that one juicy piece and bits go flying everywhere. It's satisfying, slightly barbaric, and immensely appetizing. Seafood buffets aren't the only thing offered by Kitchen Buffet and Bistro; the restaurant has a different buffet for every night of the week, including Prime Rib, Surf and Turf, Ribs and Chops, and their "Meat Extravaganza" (can't offer any clues as to this, I'm afraid). They also have a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, every item of which is reasonably priced. I had a nice time and a really tasty meal at this restaurant, and would definitely return in the future when I'm in the mood for gobs and gobs of crab meat and a big ol' side of melted butter. I was in Edmonton last week to get a cataract surgery done on my eye. We had eaten in this restaurant a couple of times that week and quite enjoyed it. I found the service to be exceptional. But on Saturday morning it went above and beyond. The housekeeping staff had forgotten to refresh the coffee station in our room and we didn't realize it until we got up to make coffee and opened the door. So we mentioned it to the manager of this restaurant when we went downstairs for breakfast, thinking nothing of it. Before we were done he came over and informed us that he was paying for our breakfast, that what happened should not of happened. The breakfast in this restaurant is $20 per person. We argued with him that it was not necessary but he would not change his mind we were not going to be paying for our breakfast and he insisted that we not pay. Let's face it, after going to a place like Las Vegas that have some great buffets, coming back here nothing can really compare. I've tried a few places and usually end up disappointed, but the one located at The River Cree casino is a pretty decent place to go if you feel like a buffet. Prices vary, as they have a brunch and dinner buffet, as well as different themes (like seafood, ribs etc). Tonight we went for the leg of lamb and beef ribs. This was the first time in a couple of years that I have gone back for the dinner buffet, as I have usually gone for brunch. They have the usual choices, soup, salad, some sort of seafood (tonight was pickled fish, smoked salmon and mussels) and a few hot dishes, and of course some dessert. Like most buffets in this city, the choices aren't that big. Again, think that's being spoiled by the huge ones in Vegas. The only negative was that there was just one bowl of fruit on the dessert table (maybe was just tonight), as it is always nice to have some healthy options to end the meal instead of just pastries. Service is always great there and never an issue. They take reservations except for Friday and Saturday, but it is quite big so usually can get a table. Another disappointing visit. This is the second time I've been and won't be going back. Coincidentally, both of my visits were on a Tuesday which happens to be surf n turf. After it taking nearly ten minutes to figure out where to seat us (the restaurant wasn't busy by any means), we then had to wait 15 minutes for a server. The drink special didn't taste like there was a drop of alcohol in it and the food was lacking to say the least. The selections were very limited and certainly not hot or fresh. We have eaten here several times and have noticed it slowly going from good to bad. Last night is the last time we will eat there. We knew that Friday nights were seafood night and had a bad experience there on a Friday and had decided not to go again on a Friday night so we were disappointed to find every Tuesday in February is crab night. This place has never been a favourite of mine. I've only gone because it's the choice of a family member. Last night we experienced a new kind of disgusting. The food lacked flavour and what did have flavour was not pleasant or appealing. The chicken was like soft rubber, the pork was a ball of fat and the vegetables (carrots and squash) were over cooked so the insides were mush and the skins were hard and chewy. The selection of dishes for a buffet was pathetic. As if the food wasn't bad enough, the service was appalling. Water was on the table, but we were not offered any other beverage. The only wait staff we saw were picking up the dirty dishes. Then we were asked to leave while we were having a family visit because they had "a large group" to be seated. This was one of the worst "dining" experiences I have ever had. Save yourself the time, effort and money....go to McDonalds.
