Stopped by for brunch with a few friends, and overall, it's a solid spot for a casual meal. The only major headache was the parking situation, so definitely give yourself some extra time to find a spot. The wait wasn't bad at all, and the food hit the spot. My only real disappointment on the menu was the lack of coffee drinks, they only serve regular drip coffee...so don't come expecting a latte. The main dining area was pretty loud, so we opted for terrace seating, which made for a much more relaxed vibe. All in all, it's a nice, chill spot if you're looking to grab a good bite with friends.
It's been awhile since I've been here, but it hasn't changed. Customer service is excellent and they've stayed consistently good in quality and portions. Walking distance from the beach, we came here for dinner after a whole day out in the sun, and so glad we did. French onion soup, my fave: 10 out of 10 Chinese chicken salad : 9 out of 10 Cobb salad: 8 out of 10 Grilled cheese and broccoli cheddar soup: 9 out of 10 French onion burger : 8 out of 10 (better as just a soup) Burger and sweet potato fries: 9 out of 10 A must try if you're in the area and everyone's so friendly. 10 out of 10 for me! Came here with a family member and once again had a blast both in terms of the experience as well as the quality of the product, which is pictured as usual. The CSA (CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL-STAR) of this experience was a delightful server named Stephanie-pixtured. If the phrase "service with a smile" is a trademark and or restaurant industry staple, it would certainly apply to her! Thanks Stephanie for the great experience. You are a credit to the Kettle brand.
A typical American spot ,the food is quite sweet and rich, but overall, it's pretty tasty. It's a nice place to sit down, enjoy a morning coffee, and take in the pleasant view. The staff was friendly and polite, and everything went smoothly with no negative experiences. The place could definitely use a bit of a modern refresh, but overall, it's a nice spot for a casual brunch
This is an adorable diner I've been coming to regularly. Usually on weeknights when there's less crowd. Today I tried something different--the crab melt. Crab cake was exceptional. Topped with pimento cheese. Though the vegetables (onions, cucumber, tomato) were largely unnecessary since they didn't enhance the sandwich. They were just there to make sure I ate my veggies. Overall, thus is a great diner for location and ambience. Comparing food alone, there's better in LA.
The service here was excellent. Even though the line was pretty long when we arrived, they turned tables quickly and we were seated in about 15 minutes. It's also very kid-friendly--they provided a high chair and even gave my little one a small toy, which was such a thoughtful touch. Ordering was easy, and our food came out quickly. The food, however, was just okay. The Banana French Toast was way too sweet--it was covered in syrup. I expected the banana to be incorporated into the toast, but it was really just a few slices on top. It ended up being overly rich, and I could only manage a few bites. There were also quite a few flies buzzing around our table during the meal, which definitely took away from the experience.
After watching the sunset, Hubby and I wanted to grab a quick dinner. We walked in and sat at the bar! Food was good! French onion soup was my favorite! Server Dani was great!
The Kettle is a great spot in Manhattan Beach if you're looking for a place to grab a meal. I like that they have both indoor and outdoor seating, so you have options depending on the weather and your preference. It has that classic diner feel and is a convenient place to stop by whether you're out exploring the area or looking for a casual meal. I can see why it's been a popular spot for so many years! Def an old timer feel. It's such a cute diner. Indoor & outdoor seating for whatever you desire. Service was quick and friendly. I came late-ish about 10pm on a Thursday. They had people so it was still somewhat poppin at this hour. I ended up ordering a tuna sandwich, basically the melt but with no cheese or being toasted/melted. I like their tuna-- not too fishy. Sometimes tuna salad can end up being fishy. It was a healthy serving of tuna as well! Absolutely a generous amount. It came with a side of fruit, which the fruit was interesting. I never had a side of grapefruit before. It's a nice cozy place to stop by if you don't wanna end up at one of the fancy shmancy restaurants on the strip. Menu is pretty extensive so you have a lot of variety to choose from! Prices are pretty fair. Street parking/metered parking.
The place is iconic, the food is good and the portions large. Good service helps to make up for the crowds who swarm here at meal time. Great breakfasts served all day and good dineresque lunches and dinners. And if you are in the mood, snd somehow have room, the deserts aren't too shabby either. Good luck, though, with the parking.
As good as it's always been! We were in Manhattan Beach for the holiday firework show on the pier and came here after. We've been coming here for many years and the food here is consistently great! - and they are open till midnight if you are in the area and hungry late night. I got the Braised Pot Roast Dip (upgraded to a melt which adds melted provolone cheese - $19.95) which is their delicious pot roast with caramelized onion jam, horseradish mayo & au jus on a French roll. For my side (and I always recommend this at the Kettle) I get the French onion soup. The French onion here is to die for and is honestly dream worthy! The braised pot roast dip was also incredible as usual. Glad we chose to come here tonight!
Food This place is a local classic and a favorite of many people, and I got a classic country fried steak which is my usual go to brunch order. The actual food itself is a classic type of food, nothing trendy or over the top but you get what you order, which to be honest, isn't a bad thing and I like how their simple their food is. The actual steak wasn't bad, good texture on it crunch on the outside but still kinda tender steak that was cooked well, comes with well seasoned potatoes and eggs. The rest of my party got a burrito and some pancakes and there were pretty good as well and I would say reliable flavors that you know. My order came with a choice of pastry as well and I got a coffee and for me this was the higlight. Warm, fluffy, flavorful, everything that you'd want in a pastry accompanied by steak and eggs, definitely worth coming back to for the coffee cake alone Service/Ambiance For a sunday brunch, our party of 4 was seated pretty much right away but even if you had to wait, the front entrance had complimentary coffee and bread as well. The staff was nice and I liked the overall vibe of the restaurant. Service was relatively quick as well.
Sunday lunch yesterday lacked the excellence of past visits. I can excuse the long wait for service once we were seated. The waitress seemed to have a scowl or attitude that was not welcoming. But then she might have been really tired or busy. I ordered the Patty melt which came with a choice of soup, salad, etc. I chose the French Onion soup. I've had it there many times in the past. And I asked for it (cup) to be upgraded to a bowl. When it came it looked good ... until I peered under the block of cheese and realized the "soup" was 99% broth with a few onions and a tiny piece of bread. It was ridiculous. The waiter could have given me a straw rather than a soup spoon. The Patty Melt also tasted great but had really poor presentation. It looked really unappetizing. Maybe I'm just being picky but it looked like meat in burned rye bread. But like I said it tasted very good. We were seated in a booth by the entrance door. Customers crowded in the area draping their arms down the inside of the booth hitting my guest in the head several times. I had to ask the cashier to please not permit crowding inside the entrance as there's a waiting area outside. No one asked how I liked my meal so I didn't say anything about the soup - which was a big time waste. Next time I'm there if a similar situation happens (if I order French Onion soup) I will complain.

It pains me to have to take my concerns to the Internet, but after several handfuls of a similar issue, I think it's time a Yelp review is left. Unless signing in, anytime I have ever ordered for delivery from the kettle it seems that the staff, even if I call after placing the order and speak with the host to guarantee that someone has looked at the tickets so that they prepared it correctly, do not care about the food being sent out . I can count for several occasions with friends where we have popped in for a bite to eat and had to keep an eye on things and send things back because the waiter or waitress has hastily tried to drop food that is severely subpar to the table. Don't get me wrong, there have been plenty of moments where we have had a surprisingly pleasant experience when on that side of town. Today was the Straw that brought the camels back. Pretty fascinating how often the kettle takes advantage of to-go orders and completely half-asses the meal. Would the kettle be proud to present this to the table if I dined in? I'm sure not. Cold soggy chicken, not in a tortilla wrap, not in a bun. A half assed serving size of sweet potato fries that are Luke warm and soggy, pre made and sitting under a warmer I'm sure. No blue cheese dressing. No additional honey mustard as requested. The Kettle doesn't care about your food quality unless you're dining in and available to keep an eye on it every step of the way. This is not the first second or third time this has happened. I'd recommend that coming here unless you want to have to micromanage everything you order when it comes out of the kitchen or don't particularly care if you're delivery order arrives royally fucked up and not at all what you ordered. read more

This diner is in a prime location, just steps from the ocean and surrounded by cute shops, ice cream spots, and restaurants. It's a great place to hang out before or after your meal, especially since the whole area is super pedestrian-friendly--even if parking can be a bit tricky. Many nearby street spots are metered, with limits ranging from 24 minutes to 2 hours, currently at $2.50 per hour. There's also a parking structure nearby, but it's on the pricier side, so plan accordingly. As for the diner itself: food was solid, exactly what you'd expect from a classic American diner. The staff was very friendly, and the whole place had a welcoming, laid-back vibe. There's a nice outdoor patio that overlooks the sidewalk--perfect for people-watching-- and also dog friendly. read more

I had the pleasure of finally trying The Kettle. This place is always super busy and everyone looks to be enjoying their food. I found the food very tasty and the service was fast. I ordered extra, extra crispy bacon and poached extra-well eggs. Got cold, limp bacon, and the eggs were completely runny. Very difficult to get refills on coffee. It's very obvious they are understaffed for the weekend. Also slipped on a puddle of oil on the floor when leaving. I forgot to take a photo, but my coffee mug had coffee stains around the lip that I had to rub fairly hard to get off. Waitress was friendly, but needed more help for the number of tables. Menu says recipes haven't changed in 50 years, but they absolutely have changed quite a bit since COVID. This used to be an absolute recommend for 20+ years, but today was my last visit. Great spot for a late night bite! I've always passed this place when ever I'm down in Manhattan Beach but never took the chance to go in. I'm happy I got to experience it this time. We weren't super hungry so everything we ordered was for the table which included a chicken club sandwich, onion rings, and 2 orders of their chicken tenders (because they were that good (very crispy)!). We also had their blackberry lemonade to drink. It was a fun time, the ambiance feels more rustic and woodsy rather than 1950s for a diner which is something you don't see too often in SoCal The service was friendly and quick. So I actually haven't been here in quite some years but this place has been here for a very long time. It's great to have one of those places that are not a chain and still family owned from what I know. This also is one of those places where the menu has so much to choose from. I came in on a Sunday evening and was sat fairly quickly. There was only one waitress on the floor but she handle it very well. Very friendly service and everything was good. This is one of those spots to go to when nothing else around is open late night, yet you still want some decent food. Feels like an old school spot. Good atmosphere. Will be back. read more

This place will work in a pinch, but is nothing special quality-wise. The wait isn't bad, and the portions are large. Probably more of a late night food spot primarily, as it's open 24-7. I wish they had more drink options, but overall a large food menu for families/late night parties. Good service and ambiance! read more

Parking~It's plenty of street parking but, it's super busy you may have to hit the block a few times before you find a decent park! Customer Setvice~Jason is our waiter was amazing he definitely earned his tip! He was very polite, welcoming, and may sure we had everything we needed and then some! Food~my bbq burger was good but, my chicken tortilla soup was amazing so hardy and comforting to the soul I will definitely get the bigger bowl next time! Ambience~It's plenty of seating and open bar front seating. No music playing but, it's great to sit and take in the amazing atmosphere. Tonight we were in town for the fireworks and I got something new, ie. the French onion burger. Cooked rare and it came with a side of 4 onion rings, a side of the f. Onion soup to dip ski, and it was very good! I asked for the bread to be Parmesan and that bread is the bomb. Wow! I want that cheesy bread every day!!! Next time I might ask for it to be less butter/oily but all in all, a solid AF burger. Next time I'll try the French quarter burger and those delightful thick cut fries. Onion rings were also very good, super thick and crispy and their homemade ranch is also excellent. read more
We stopped by for a quick lunch after a little tour of Manhattan beach pier. Well maintained diner conveniently located at the heart of downtown Manhattan beach. Loved the friendly and kind customer service and the generous portions across the board. Great variety of food on the menu. French onion soup and salads were massive and delicious! Buffalo chicken sandwich was good. The fries were better. BBQ pulled pork quesadillas were yummy! Flavors are simple but they serve good comfort food. The quality of the food may be below average (in the area) but with the little ones, it was nice to feel comfortable at the booth table. They also have patio seats and accommodate for big groups. The Kettle brings back many great memories! We lived in MB for about 20 years and The Kettle was our go-to place for yummy comfort food - even before we had kids! In fact, when I was put on bed rest with our first child and my husband was out of town, I had a craving for one of their delicious honey bran muffins and hobbled down our nearby walk street to get one! Their honey bran muffins are outrageously good- they are not those gross, cold bran muffins with raisins that you find at grocery stores. Theirs are house made, served upside down and warm, with whipped honey butter on the side. No raisins! And oh so delicious! We all also love their daily soups (especially Thursday's Broccoli Cheese), and their breakfasts, sandwiches, and burgers! We were in town recently with our now 24 year-old daughter and there was no way were going to miss going to The Kettle while we were there! We came here for lunch on a beautiful day and were seated at one of my favorite places there- an outdoor table where I could see the ocean. We had our usuals to eat but my daughter also tried their Southbay Crab Melt (lump blue crab cake, melted jack and cheddar cheese, tomato, cucumber, red onion, scallion aioli on a brioche bun). One of the best brunch places in Los Angeles! Everytime I'm at or near manhattan beach, I have to come to this restaurant for the great food. My friends and I were a large party and came here on a Thursday morning. While it was super busy even then, the staff made sure to accommodate us which we greatly appreciated. The breakfast menu has great selections. I got the breakfast sandwich with potatoes which was a large portion but delicious. My whole group enjoyed their meal and we had a great time. read more

I had the trout dish, spinach and mash potatoes. I would've given it five stars, but the flavor was a bit unseasoned. However, it was perfectly cooked and fresh. I would of course return and try more things! My mentor had the French toast dish, we came here on her mention and it was wonderful. I came here around 8:30 pm during the week to meet a friend and we didn't have to wait at all to get seated. We also found parking very close and very easily, which I'm sure is a vastly different experience from normal. The location is right in the heart of the main stretch of Manhattan Beach, so I would definitely expect difficult parking and very busy streets if you're going at any other time of day. We both got the French onion soup - mostly because it is infamous but also because I am an absolute sucker for a good French onion soup. We also got some garlic fries to split. I would absolutely skip the garlic fries if I come here again (too much sauce and very fake garlic-y taste was too much more me). The soup was so amazing, I'm very glad I got it and also will gladly eat it again any other time I come here. The restaurant has very strong rustic diner vibes. Came on Jan 1. Parking was tricky , Wait was minimal, maybe 10 minutes . food was great, tasty and great price . after our food came no one checked on us . Just took the order , brought drinks (except my water) and brought the bill after we ate and asked if we needed a box ... and that was it . Minus one star because I had to ask for water 3 different times and wave people down for attention . lol read more

The food is fantastic, great bunch of good servers the booths are spacious and if you're dining alone the counter is great, they even have outdoor seating and the space heaters keep it cozy! I orders a burger , " The French Quarter " I highly recommend recommend it , made to order large patty with red onion, lettuce ,tomato , avocado and bacon , on sourdough bread , comes with fries or a side salad whatever you prefer. I get both , love a salad before my meal! And the burger and fries come with a side of 1000 island dressing that I dip my fries in! This is the best 1000 island dressing I've ever had ( think they make it in house). Stop by anytime, they are open 24 hrs. Been coming here since early 1970's, we used to stop after nights out in Hermosa or Redondo Beach! So Stop on by and try that " French Quarter " . i come to Manhattan Beach all the time and often walk right past The Kettle. Honestly, I ignored it because of its location in the middle of a high-traffic tourist area. I assumed it was one of those touristy spots with crappy, greasy, deep-fried food. But you know what? I was wrong. Started with a random bathroom trip to this restaurant after a walk on the beach, which gave me a glimpse into the cozy interior. That small peek convinced me to give it a try, and on our next visit, my wife and I came back for dinner. I'm glad we did! Let's start with the positives and there are plenty! The interior of The Kettle has a warm, inviting ambiance that makes you feel right at home. The service was excellent, with attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed and the food was really good to my surprise. I ordered the chicken piccata, and it was fantastic, perfectly cooked with just the right balance of lemon sauce and capers. My wife, who doesn't usually enjoy burgers, was raving about their Kettle Burger. I tried it too, and I have to agree - it's one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Well-seasoned, juicy, and overall well made. The table we were seated at added to the experience. We had an outdoor spot with a beautiful sunset view, which made the whole evening feel magical. Now, not everything was perfect. The vegetable turkey soup unfortunately sucked. It was bland, poorly seasoned cabbage water with two slices of turkey. Didn't taste good - didn't look good. Don't buy it. At the end of the day The Kettle exceeded my expectations. Sure it's a touristy spot but it's also a good restaurant with great food, a cozy atmosphere, and warm service. I'll definitely be back again. If you're in Manhattan Beach, do yourself a favor and give it a try. read more

Hi April! We only allow service dogs in the restaurant and on the patio. You are welcome to tie your dog up in our outdoor waiting area adjacent to the patio though. We provide water and shade :)
