For breakfast I had the Avocado toast. The thick Toast, avocado and egg was very tasty! The staff is very friendly and the service was quick. I originally found out about this place from Mike Rowe's show and had to check it out. Man, let me tell you, I was not disappointed. First off, their concept of making gourmet meals for cancer patients is amazing. I would easily drop every brunch Sunday to come here and support them. Their restaurant is smaller but worth the wait. Everyone that works there is either a volunteer or does multiple roles. Now to the best part... the food.. so not only did the owner win episode of Chopped, she is by far one of the most humble chefs I have met. I was so impressed with the quality and the quantity of every plate we ordered. I HIGHLY recommend any of the eggs Benedict, pancakes are off the charts, biscuits and gravy. JBD is our go to spot now after we hike PHX Mountain Preserve on the weekends. Everything I said in my prior review still stands x 10 fold. We have amazing food every visit and I can not get enough of their homemade biscuits (no rhyme intended). While their biscuits and gravy is a hearty meal, their biscuits alone are the stuff of dreams. They have substance without being too flour-y and have a rich, amazing smokey-ness to them. All the hyphenated words to describe these biscuits. When I am 1 mile into our 3.5 mile hike, I just think about my Two Egg Combo add Biscuit instead of toast and I could hike to Piestewa Peak and back. OMG this place is so good! I was hiking w/a couple of friends who live in this area and one suggested that we come here when we were done and I'm glad she did! It's a small cafe right off Shea & the 51. Not sure if this place can get crowded, but it's not very big and we were lucky to snag a table. They're only open until 2 and serve breakfast and lunch (I'm assuming they serve breakfast all day...we came in around 12 and I ordered a breakfast burrito). The menu is just the right size and has a good variety, but it's not overwhelming. Healthy-ish (if you choose to go the route) options that are still hearty. Like I said I had the breakfast burrito w/eggs, bacon, potato, and pinto beans. The salsa it came w/was tasty, but SPICY (and I like spicy). Not huge, but a good size to fill you up. This place is very affordable (I think everything on the menu is under $10) and service is friendly. Also, good coffee! I really like the thing they do where you can donate $10 towards a meal for a cancer patient (one of my friends who I came here w/was saying she thinks the owners have personal connection/experience which is why they do this). I wish I lived closer by so I can come more often, but with a few more months of hiking season left I'll be back when I'm in the area! read more

Danggg Joy Bus. I see you! Five star mission, service and food. I ordered the princess poppyseed pancakes (woah) and they were amazing. The Benedict's looked insane as well. If you are looking for a delicious chicken and waffle situation I highly advise you to check theirs out; warning: huge portions! The people next to us were moaning about their burritos. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I am always happy to find a great new place. Not only is the food good but the story behind it is wonderful. We started off with orange juice and coffee. The juice came in a cute mason jar with a handle but it had ice in it which was weird to my son and I. We both ordered chicken and waffles and my husband had the princess poppyseed pancakes. The chicken was flavorful and tender but the coating tended to fall off as you cut into it. Still a dish worth trying. My husbands pancakes had a bright lemon curd filling and were delicious. They were huge and came with two strips of tasty bacon on the side. Breakfast for three came to about $40.00. The service was decent and the food was good so we will definitely go back. If I could pick this place up and transplant it to Indy, preferably right next door to my home, I would. Everything about our visit to The Joy Bus Diner was perfect. The staff were super kind and efficient, the prices were reasonable, and the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. And the food. It was so, so good. I had a really basic breakfast - the typical eggs and pancakes, etc. Everything was done so well, though, and it was really obvious that the food was made to order, and hasn't just been sitting in food warmers. My husband's breakfast was super delicious, too. He had the Chile Benedict and it was great - tons of flavor and just the right amount of heat. The worst part of our meal was realizing that we live 1500 miles away and probably won't be back any time soon. If I could, I'd make this a regular spot! read more

Found this place on Yelp and really glad we did. Let me start by saying we were very touched by the story behind the restaurant and the inspiration for it. The menu had some great choice and we went with the Benedict and the special of the day. So let me breakdown the pros and cons: Pros: The service was great the staff was really nice. The food was delcious Prices were really reasonable and for a great cause Cons: Food was really slow coming out took a really long time for food and drinks Food was served all as it was ready, so some people were eating while others had to wait The pies are backed with tins that have to be returned so if you are from out of town (like us) you are out of luck on taking one home.. It was recommended by a dear friend and decided to take the family for Sunday breakfast. The food and service was EXCELLENT! We ordered 4 different items on the menu. 1. The two egg breakfast, which comes with savory potatoes and bacon that was cooked to perfection! 2. The chilaquiles are authentic...it's evident the red chile is homemade. 3. The chorizo and egg plate was also great. Not greasy at all and the pinto beans were cooked perfectly! 4. The breakfast burrito with chorizo was great too! Fabulous dining experience. Went in for the first time, and found every employee, without exception, thrilled to be there. Hubs ordered the lemon poppyseed pancakes and a side of bacon, and I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. Pancakes were light and fluffy with a creamy lemony filling and topping with poppyseeds. The bacon was thick cut peppered bacon, more to hubs' taste than mine due to his love of pepper, but very high quality, thick, and flavorful. The biscuits and gravy were topped by two impressively large eggs, cooked perfectly. Their gravy looks a little strange at first, and I was hesitant after seeing the pictures online. They advised when I ordered they use turmeric in their gravy, which explains the color. It was an interesting twist, and very tasty. It was savory with a spicy warmth without tasting too spicy or mustardy. I had a close view of the pick up window, and was super impressed with the looks of the food coming out. Everything was prepared with care and precision. We also were privileged to see volunteers come in to pick up meals to be delivered to cancer patients. This is a restaurant with a mission, and we look forward to going back soon. read more

Couldn't have more great things to say about this place! It was my first time today, my husband had been before. I ordered the avocado toast trying to stay relatively healthy- let me tell you. It was SO good. Most avocado toast and just breakfast at restaurants in general is very bland, not here! The toast was perfectly crispy and veggies were fresh. My husband loved his breakfast as well. Our waitress was sweet as can be, to top it all off, they give their proceeds to help bring meals to cancer patients. Best food, and for such a great cause, I can't stop thinking about my breakfast!! Sunday late morning, we were seated immediately after signing in. Our server got us coffee and water and was very enthusiastic about what seemed like all of the things. It elated us. Talk about being in the right frame of mind. We ended up with the 2 egg breakfast and the breakfast burrito with a special request of being smothered in the red chili sauce with cotija cheese. This place is a real diner. They aren't trying to be anything fancy on their sturdy plates and the nondescript yellow mugs. That being said, my eggs over medium came out perfectly. The sausage patties were nicely seasoned, the potatoes had rosemary, and the toast came with fresh strawberry jam. The breakfast burrito was pretty large and also had the same rosemary potatoes within. Adding on the red chili sauce was a fantastic choice. Considering the total amount was under twenty bucks for quality food made with purpose and it's close by, I'm most definitely coming back. What a great little spot! read more

So what can you say about this totally amazing place! Eating for a cause and the food is good. It is also very reasonable in the new world of 20 dollar breakfast joints. I had the, "Woods Toast" and it was delicious! I scarfed it down and licked the plate. Okay, not really, but maybe I did you will never know. I want to go back and try their Poppyseed pancakes. They looked amazing. They do run on limited staff and volunteers so keep that in mind if you go. Plan to spend some time when you go and do not be in a rush. Consider It your charitable cause for the day. If I lived near here I would come here every single day since they help cancer patients. They sell jars of Jams here that are made locally. I bought 4 jars as gifts. The flavors seem amazing. There are like 25 different types. I will update on how they are and which flavors were best. Stop by and help them out.
