My wife and I stopped here a little before 3pm on a Sunday. We were actually planning to try Estella Tacos Y Mezcal but could not figure out how to get to it. So, we went into The Jesse to check it out. The Jesse gets it's name from Jesse Lee Reno, the Union Civil War General for whom Reno is named. Jesse L Reno was killed in the battle of South Mountain. Part of our problem is that we parked on Evans Avenue between 4th and 5th. We found out that if you enter through The Jesse, there is access from the back of The Jesse or if you drive down 4th, there is a parking lot with access to both. They share an outdoor open space which is fenced and has seating. There were quite a few people hanging out inside in the main room with the bar area. The bar is right in front of you when you walk in. There are multiple places to sit and relax. We really loved the exposed brick and industrial look. There is another room to the left of the entrance just past the restrooms with additional seating. This is also the way you get to the outdoor seating area, parking lot and Estella Tacos Y Mezcal. There are Mexican blankets in a basket by the door which we assume to be used for people sitting outside. We had a seat at the bar at two open seats and checked out what they had. My wife ordered the Eighty-Nine Eleven cocktail and I ordered a Revision IPA. The bartender was really friendly and took good care of us newcomers. My wife was amazed with the flavor of her drink and would never have ordered anything with gin but she really loved it! We both used the restrooms which were very clean and we were surprised to see that they use actual towels for drying your hands. We let them know they were running low in one of the restrooms and out of them in the other. Overall it was a great experience and is a beautiful and comfortable place to enjoy some drinks with your significant other or a group of friends or family. We also think it would be a fun place to do a staycation or for out of town folks to enjoy while in the area. They have six hotel rooms on the floors above. read more

I stayed for one night at The Jesse and I was very worried about the neighborhood but the bar is amazing, safe and has a beautiful outdoor patio/garden area where amazing Mexican inspired eats are delivered to your table. The bar tenders at The Jesse are kind, funny and offer you unique cocktail experiences which force you out of your comfort zone but that you discover you LOVE! The hotel rooms are the best in Reno. Amazing!!! Large exposed brick walls tall showers with subway tile and most importantly a very comfortable bed. I am in love with this place!!!!! read more

This review is only for the beautiful lobby bar. Bar goers are urged to ignore that: 1. The Jesse is not located in the best area in town 2. The hustle and bustle coming from Evans Ave. 3. The random homeless walking into the lobby bar Yes, ignore every inconvenience and get yourself over to The Jesse! What used to be an old building has been transformed into a beautiful boutique hotel. The lobby is welcoming and stylish and the outdoor area is small, enjoyable... but a little noisy. The street noise and ambiance music make it a little loud and uncomfortable to carry a conversation. On the plus side, it's very lush, romantic and the heaters keep it cozy. The staff is fun, friendly, and aim to please and make the experience unforgettable. Lo, the bar manager and mixologist extraordinaire, has created delicious cocktails inspired by Nevada history. The Jesse put together a Spooky Story and Autumn Cocktails events that I was lucky to attend. Besides enjoying some scary-good urban myths told by the very entertaining Lo, I had the pleasure to sample the fall cocktail menu: Evil Personified - Mezcal, ancho reyes chile liquor, pumpkin and lime. The Forbidden Love - Tequila, cassis, hibiscus tea syrup, ginger beer. Gold Digger - Bourbon, coffee liquor, dark chocolate liquor, and bitters. Never Leaving Reno - Pisco, turmeric syrup, lime, pineapple juice. 344 Feet Below - Absolut elyx and prosecco. Queen of the Comstock - Rum, jagermeister, ginger liquor, giffard banana and lime. Tuesday April 25th The Jesse: We all had Cadillac Margaritas and they were really good! Service was great! This was my review for Estella's: Tho place is great!! I forgot to take pictures of the food which is a bummer. We had Fish, Carnitas and Mushroom tacos all were really good! We also had a Quesadilla and Shrimp Tostada! Service was great even if it's a counter service style they hustle! We ate inside the Jesse which is a cool old building in Reno... good and bad is the show that happens outside the windows. Definitely entertaining. The only reason I didn't give it 5 star is because of the Salsa with the Chips was just ok and the Quesadilla was more like Enchiladas. We'll definitely be back for the Tacos and Margaritas!!! read more

Lo has created some fabulous Reno history themed cocktails to enjoy regularly at The Jesse for $9. The cutest and my fav is 90 Days to Freedom - bright, refreshing, and bubbly. And comes with a diamond ring. Fun history, ask a bartender if you're not familiar. Several wine choices from $8-10 a glass. Beers $4-6. Currently thru September 6 you can have a dram and a bite on the Whiskey Hunt. A smooth Uncle Nearest with a fascinating story explained by Lo. The Jesse's interior is a huge change from the previous Lincoln Lounge. Bright space and colors. Several furry stools at the bar or choose one of two seating areas next to the windows to enjoy a cocktail and watch the neighborhood go by. We did not stay at the Jesse, merely came by for a dish + dram for the Yelp Whiskey Hunt. Therefore, I am not giving you a review on the boutique hotel, just a review for the lobby/bar/living area. The space is hip, stylish, and a tad retro all while being located in a beautiful brick building with lots of greens to soften the look. The staff is just as hip and stylish, especially the ever congenial Lo, bar manager and mixologist extraordinaire. Come for a drink, stay for a spell and enjoy the company and the comfy seating. Stay a while longer and head back to Estella for some fine looking tacos which can be enjoyed at the taco bar or on the beautiful courtyard. I'll definitely be back to try those tacos! read more

While on the Whiskey Hunt in between moving, my wife and I decided to stop by and try the place out. First off, the staff is so friendly that they make you want to come back just to talk to them. The place is a bit stark, as in really, really white. Not a bad thing mind you, just a little bit too white. I guess that is a minor beef, but a little bit of color would make the place a bit more inviting. While there was no food available at the time, that's not why we went there, we went for the drinks and in this case, the Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey. It is my favorite so far although to be fair, it was only the sixth one I've tried on the hunt. Will absolutely come back, especially later in the day when food is available. read more

Wow wow wowww!! I've been wanting to come here since first hearing about the Jesse during the Good Spirits event in June. The transformation from the Lincoln Lounge to the Jesse is amazing!! A friend and I sat at the bar, I ordered lovers lane, you get a little capsule to pour into the pretty lilac colored drink. On a Friday after work it was busy but there was still plenty of seating. The restrooms are even neat, there's cloth hand towels with a basket upon using and hand gel pumps. I would love to plan a "staycation" one day to experience the hotel. My friend and I were commenting that we would never know we were so close to downtown. The patio itself was chill vibe and felt like we stepped away to another city! Diamond in the rough and well worth a visit! Dinner and cocktails at The Jesse three time now, I cannot recommend it enough. I drink wine, small and what appears to be a highly curated list with excellent choices. My party enjoyed margaritas with positive reactions with every drink. We ordered the Ceasar salad with chicken, carnitas tacos and guacamole. Again, no complaints whatsoever. Everything was fresh with incredible flavor all the way around. Visiting Reno? This is just for the bar. Since we live Downtown, I don't think we would take advantage of the hotel part of the business - though it really looks like the type of place I would LOVE to stay in. The bar is lovely. It is clean and modern, but has the ambiance of hotel bars from an era long ago - 1920 meets 2020. We stopped in for a quick drink - beer for my sweetie, sparkling water for my friend on a cleansing diet, and a glass of "Glup", a light but rich red wine made from the Cinsault grape. It tasted a bit like a pinot, but with a hint of cinnamon. This particular wine comes Chilie and was a definite treat. I think it would probably wait well with the Tacos available from Estellas. I liked it so much I had a second glass. The staff were friendly and knowledgable about their wines. The cocktails being created looked luscious and are a definite possibility for a return visit. And yes, I do plan to return - to sample some of the buzz worthy tacos from next door, have a fabulous cocktail or perhaps sip another glass or two of the amazing "Glup". read more

We went back a second time on a Friday after work, it was a little less busy than the first time we went which was a Saturday. We sat at the bar and got to order some off menu stuff that they are working on. Paul was our bar tender, he is awesome. We talked about the different types of Mezcal and tequilas that they offer. We also had some of the tacos from Estella as well, carnitas and Al Pastor. So good! I'm glad they were able to re open this area and it went though an awesome renovation since Lincoln lounge. The feel of the place is relaxing with a great Ambience. This really is a great place for date night, girls night out or simply a place to grab a drink. It's worth a visit. read more

this is one of the coolest places to hang out and all of Reno for sure sure. At the Jessie itself you have a lovely café during the daytime run by Kyle who is a super awesome, magnanimous about town. I think they may be even call him the mayor? So really good coffee there and the ambience is very modern and hip and lovely. I always feel uplifted when I go in there. The vibes are always positive and happy and upbeat. It's a really nice place to be and it's also very welcoming to different types of people. I have seen the rooms at the jesse it's a hotel as well and they're very cute in terms of being a small boutique hotel . in addition, they are right next to anne share a courtyard with a taco shop that I think is called Estella, and those darn tacos are absolutely delicious! Big yummy. I recommend pairing them with a missal margarita from the jesse and you have yourself a really delicious dinner, that you can eat in the very adorable courtyard that has a huge trellis with wisteria dripping from it. Again, this is a place where you will see very fashionable people but it's also also very open and cute. Again, one of the best places in Reno for a young person . read more

I have a hugely special place in my heart because The Jesse was the most perfect venue for my best friends elopement reception. My boyfriend, dog, and I had the BEST experience here. We booked through Hotel Tonight and called ahead of time to make sure they knew we were bringing our dog. I spoke with Piper, one of the owners, who was so nice and made sure we were in a dog friendly room. We parked in their parking lot to the left of the entrance. You walk into the bar and talk to any of the bartenders to get you checked in and show you to the room. The room was so nice with a super comfortable bed and really nice shower. Dino was given his own bed (which he didn't end up using ) and a water/food bowl for our stay. We stayed in the "Parke" room which was right above the bar facing the street. You can hear music and the street a bit, which we didn't mind, and which meant we could play fetch in the room without worrying about being a nuisance. They have a restaurant attached which makes amazing Mexican food, the drinks at the bar were delicious, and the bartenders were all really nice. We stayed on a night that had a live DJ that was really good as well. They have a little coffee/tea area on the second floor that has a Nespresso machine and a hot water maker. In the morning we went downstairs to check out and found Piper at the bar where she made us some great lattes on their La Marzocco (fancy latte machine) an oat milk latte for my boyfriend and a regular one for me. There weren't a lot of places for Dino to go the bathroom but there was a small patch of dirt in the parking lot that we took him to during our stay. We will definitely come back to Reno if not only to stay here again! read more

Uncle Nearest 1856, a maple charcoal filtered whiskey, has a very molasses/ brown sugar flavor and for 100 proof whiskey is extremely smooth. The bartenders are super nice and tell great stories. I've been to The Jesse twice. Both times, the staff were focused on great customer service. You have to go to the bar to order food and drinks. As soon as you step up to the bar, they acknowledge your presence and take your order as soon as they are able. We've all been places where it seems like the bartenders are more interested in talking with their friends at the bar rather than trying to take care of all the customers. That hasn't happened at The Jesse. Even though you order the food and drinks at the bar, the staff brings them to your table. The cocktails are well-made and generous. I've had Old Fashions and Manhattans. I've also had several types of tacos; all were delicious. Highly recommend! read more

This was my husband and I's second stop on the whiskey hunt. The whiskey we had here was Uncle nearest 1856 and it was delicious!! It is a Maple charcoal filtered whiskey that was very smooth! You could taste the Maple in it with each sip. For being 100 proof it didn't burn at all which was nice . Along with your shot of whiskey you get a little sample of corn which is cold and kind of resembles street corn. Our bartender was super friendly and told us the story behind the whiskey. The old Lincoln Lounge has been BEAUTIFULLY transformed into a nearly unrecognizable little bar and boutique hotel. The main lobby where the bar is was very aesthetically pleasing and peaceful looking with a clean simple and modern aprons he to design with some beautifully curated greenery everywhere. I opted for the Camel Race Hoax as a suggestion from the bartender and I was not disappointed. The drink was light and refreshing with different depths of flavors. I loved all the descriptions of the drinks rather than just telling you the ingredients and the glassware and presentation of he cocktail was fun and quirky while still remaining upscale. We decided to check out the patio area, and were disappointed to find out that they had removed the outdoor bar. The outdoor area was nice, but seated on the benches near the street, there was a lot of noise coming from Evans Ave. On top of the undesirable street noise, the music outside was very loud and off brand with the rest of the vibe here. Eventually the sensory overload drove us back inside and from there we left. Overall, I think that the Jesse has been really nicely remodeled and I like the upscale casual vibe of the inside, but the outside left me disappointed. read more

Other hunters and I stopped in here on a Friday night and was lucky enough to grab some of the last seats. The bartender was very quick to welcome and excited we were there for the Hunt (it was the first night!). He shared an amazing story of how Jack Daniels got its start (I won't spoil the surprise, and that's not what you'll be trying). Came to Reno with my husband for a work conference. They had put him up at a casino hotel for the conference, but we checked out and headed to the Jesse right after. It was such a breath of fresh air after coming from an overcrowded, smoky casino hotel. The room was absolutely beautiful and functional. They were able to accommodate an early check-in for us which was so fantastic. The bed was extremely comfy and loved having access to Netflix. Bathroom was spacious - loved the heater in there to warm the space up. It got quite noisy downstairs at the bar one night. The hotel does provide ear plugs if you need them, but I sleep like a rock, so it wasn't an issue. We also ate at Estella, which is the taco place adjacent to the hotel. They brought our food into the Jesse, which was great. Their food was incredible! Highly recommend when staying there. Overall - WOW. The best hotel I've stayed in. read more

The Jesse is a real diamond in the rough (and boy do I mean rough). We came into town to support our friends in a bodybuilding competition and found this place. The pros: It only has 6 rooms and they are SO nice. Super well decorated, lots of charm, exposed brick. Decor was a 10/10. The restaurant downstairs is so trendy; sporting awesome small tacos and bites with fancy craft cocktails and a wide selection of tequila. The customer service is literally like nothing I've ever experienced, and we travel a lot. Piper helped us out immensely. Even though they were sold out she called me with a cancellation and was super friendly and helpful. The rest of the staff was lovely, as well! Cons: The area. Not much to be done about this. Reno is terrible. There are homeless people walking/lurking around the front and although we didn't dare go out at night; I'm sure it's even more terrifying. The noise. We do not drink, so I suppose if you drown yourself in cheap drinks at the casino you wouldn't hear it but in case you don't - be ready to be up all night. The walls are VERY thin. You can hear everything in the hotel and outside of the hotel. Lots of road noise and there's just a wonderful (sarcasm) joint across the road that blares heavy metal/rock music until 2am. My only other con is that one of the bartenders was quite moody about making us a mock tail. It's really not that hard...but it seemed to be an inconvenience for her. It would be nice if they offered a couple of mock tails and a NA beer on their menu. Overall, the hotel is beautiful. A real gem. We will absolutely never come back to Reno again but if for some god forsaken reason we did - we would stay at The Jesse. read more

Four stars does not represent imperfection. It represents a wonderful bar with very nice bartenders who work in a clean, very clean with no TV or sports. I have to admit, I thought this was a heatheness place whenever I sat judging the people coming out of this establishment. They were always hammered and happy, tripping over themselves whilst I galked at them from inside Louie's. I thought it was a shady place. I was wrong! It has everything else. However, if I wasn't such a sports gal, I would give it a 5 star. read more

This is a stop on the 2019 Whiskey Hunt. Very fun place to go and the whiskey sample they have is suuuper delicious. The friend I went with really enjoyed the atmosphere, as did I. The bartenders were two really cool gals and we just enjoyed the conversation we struck up with them. I would love to come in again to check out the Estella.
