A long long time ago... I Came to Shawarmageddon when they first opened. This was long before my days loving local businesses on Yelp, so I didn't share here, but I finally found my way back and I see why this is quietly one of our community's favorite spots of all time. First off, the location is just plain cool. It's off a side street, inside an office or apartment building (not sure!) and built in under a stairwell that's painted all black. You order through a small window cut into a black wall, and the experience just hits different. The menu is tiny but mighty. I ordered the falafel, which comes with a housemade sauce of your choice, a scoop of the housemade hummus and a selection of delicious pickles (Watch out for the cukes. They spicy!). The falafel are sizeable, fried super crispy, but a bit more dense than those I've had before. These are substantial and a beefy meal, or ample shareable for a few. They're also a super value at $8. I also had the Crimson tea. The Sichuan peppercorn and sweetness were a great surprise. I'm def coming back soon. read more

I have been driving past this place for years, always wanting to stop but never having the chance. Finally got to stop and it was delicious! Quick service, helpful employees and good food. We had A kids lamb wrap, falafel wrap and chicken Schwarma. Everything was very good and we look forward to coming back! I'm sorry but this has to be the worst wrap I've ever had or on par with a supermarket cold wrap. I got the lamb shawarma, but I barely got any meat. Worst of all, the meat was cold and did they forget to at least put salt in it? It's not just me either because I had my buddy Louis with me. We both love Mediterranean type foods so I gave him my other 1/2. Both of us couldn't believe what we were eating. He even asked me if I sense an after taste somewhere in the wrap. I thought it's from the picked vegetables, but who knows because the wrap was bland to me. I always give businesses the benefit of the doubt. A bad review really means it's almost inedible. I hope I just came on a bad day, but given the location of this place (across from what looks like a shady motel) I think I'm more right than wrong. The final straw is the $15 cost and 15 minute wait. If my food is going to be cold, why even make us wait? read more

My husband and I went on a bike ride today and decided to stop by here for take-out lunch. This truly is a "hidden gem" -- if you didn't know where to look, you would miss it because it is located off of a parking lot underneath an apartment building. When you walk in, you are greeted with loud music to go along with their goth/metal motif. As soon as you reach the order window, they turn down the music so you can be heard. I was originally going to go with a Shawarma Wrap but then noticed a sign describing the current special, the "Awful Falafel." After being assured by the person taking my order that the special was even better than their regular falafel wraps because it included french fries and a peach habanero sauce, I was sold. After a bit of a wait, I was called to the window where the employee that took my order apologized for taking so long. He said they had to make the wrap over and he gave me a Mexican Coke on the house to thank me for the inconvenience! I was impressed by this gesture, especially since I have been to many places where the staff doesn't seem to care if the customers are inconvenienced for whatever reason. When the order was ready and knowing my husband and I were splitting our order, they kindly cut the wrap in two and advised to keep it in the paper because it could be messy to eat. Not only was it fresh and delicious, it was more than enough for the both of us. We enjoyed our meal nearby on a bench facing the beautiful Truckee River. Rally really want to give this place something more than 3 stars... the ambiance is 5 stars, service 5 stars, menu 5 stars, some menu items 5 stars. BUT, HOWEVER, TO BE REAL: this is a falafel place people and the falafel is terrible. I'm a falafel snob and if it's not green, fresh, moist inside and crisp outside it's food for horses. Shawarmagedson falafel is dry and brown and unfortunate. But still gets 3 stars based on the law of averages when balances with everything else they offer. read more

What a dark-gothic looking Shawarma micro take-out place w/some inside and outside seating. You get what you pay for. Stuffed shawarma w/cabbage and clover leafs? Lamb were chunked pieces. Things were heavy on the garlic spectrum so make sure everyone takes a bite in your group. I really really tried to like this place but out of 4 visits, I've only had one good one. This particular time was probably some of the worst food I've tried to eat. Always a bad sign when you get your food faster than what would have been the average time for fresh fries and I knew I should have checked it before I left. The wrap was not only cold but juices were soaked on the inside. I tried to eat it but only got a few bites in before tossing it. The fries was egregiously bad. I mean, I've had overcooked fries, fries that have been sitting around a while and went limp but these but these were special because I could still taste the raw texture of potato from being underdone. And I really don't understand that. I've worked in kitchens myself and fries have to be the most idiotproof food there is. On top of that, it was like there was a shakers worth of salt on them. To top it all off, this guy had his very small child running around the kitchen, which is both really unsafe and probably a health code violation. Maybe he was the one who "cooked" my food, I don't know. Tell him to keep the fries down for a couple more minutes, will ya? read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Reno, if not my actual favorite. Food is crazy flavorful and so happy to see the addition of the bowl option on the menu. Careful, the harissa is very hot but goes well with the yogurt based sauce though I am a garlic sauce person myself. Insane garlic breath for the next 24hrs is a small price to pay for this incredible food. The guy working mentioned they are opening a bar/taproom/outlet for alcohol upstairs in September and that the owner works for/at/with Great Basin so I think we're about to get a really great GB outpost upstairs. Looking forward to mainlining shawarma with this new evolution. Can't wait to go back next week! read more

666 out of 1000 This is my rating for Shawarmageddon; it's a good place, a little too expensive, but still a good place. Amazingly, the Devil hell fries were pretty darn good. I really liked the devil hell sauce. The Shawarma wraps are hit and miss, sometimes they're skipping you on the meats and that's not OK. But if you are lucky enough to get a good wrap with a lot of lamb then you are in Shawarma hell; which is a good thing because this place is all devil themed. It's St. Patrick's day so I went directly to Shawarmageddon. I was lucky enough to get the lamb and just let the lady at the register put whatever she recommended on there. Savory and a bit spicy with intense garlic-essence. Green herbaceous sauce was fresher than an Irish spring. Tipped them 25% and got a bottle of h2o. Lots of construction and demolition in the area as I went down the street to hub coffee patio. not sure how long the interesting buildings in the area will remain standing. Yes, yes, yes! Whole in the wall AF, but isn't that where all great places start? This particular hole in the wall is bathed in Slayer black decor sprinkled w various death metal accoutrements. Even some appropriate beer choices to vibe with the ambiance. If youre lucky enough, you will be treated to some fierce metal band tracks emitting from the kitchen while pondering menu items. Only a few seats, so most patrons seem to grab and go. Lamb and Falafel shawarma wraps are solid. Dont miss the donuts (Liqaimat?). This is my first time trying this place. We placed a decent sized order (5 wraps, 1 fry, 1 donut). The building is really cool. Arrived 30 min after the order was placed and told 15 more minutes. 25 minutes later we received our food. I think what I was most unimpressed with was that (I'm assuming) the owner went ahead and put in an order for his friend as he watched his ONE employee drown in several pick up orders during lunch hour. Poor logistics is to blame for the wait time, the food was good, however I probably would not place another order during any peak time (lunch, dinner). The employee who took care of of the order was very nice and apologetic. I was unimpressed by the other guy placing his order then going outside to grease his snowboard with his buddy. Shawarmageddon, I'm glad to see you again, my old friend. Let's see, where do I begin? This has been my 3rd or so visit since my last review, and I am so glad to see how things have changed and improved. Oh and the addition of fries, oh how I love those fries. Today, shawarmageddon made my husband's shawarma dreams come true when they were able to make him a wrap with fries in place of the protein. They can even add fries to the inside of your regular wrap. The wraps have changed a bit, as has the menu since the good ol days, but we're in covid time now, we can adapt to new recipes AND we should, because the new sauces are good! My favorite is still the falafel, you'll find the wrap does not contain pea shoots anymore, but the veggies are super crisp and fresh, the pickled veggies are super good and the combination of sauces always complete the wrap in a perfect way. I love the hummus and the toum sauce, I swear the amount of garlic in that sauce helps keep me safe from vampires. The fries, they are so good! The toum mayo on the fries is even better. My husband and I share an order and its perfect. Also, the guy who helped us today, 10/6/20 was so helpful, he's the reason for the 5th star. We were in the area so decided to try out Shawarmageddon. It's a small hole in the wall place, can be easily missed if not looking. We were really hungry and everything sounded good so we ended up ordering 2 shawarma wraps (chicken and lamb), fries, spicy chick peas, falafel, and luquaimat. We were really surprised to find out how big the shawarma wraps are! We weren't expecting it to that big. They were pretty good. Alittle too spicy for me but it was still good. Everything was tasty. The luquaimat comes with a orange honey sauce which is really good. We even dipped our fries in it. Gave that salty/sweet taste. We will be trying it again, when we swung by for take out they were out of bread so our only option was bowls. Bowls being protein and veggie based. I really feel like I needed some carbs in my main course. But we will go back and try a wrap. The guy who took our order was awesome through the whole process. We were hot and I just tried to order quickly not realizing that there were decisions that went into the bowls like sauce and such. He explained each of the sauces and really kind of held our hands. Thank you! My sons each got a chicken bowl, the serving sides were very generous and they put the sauce on the side so they could control the taste to their liking. I ordered a lamb bowl for myself , with the sauce on it. This is where I went wrong. The sauce was a lot and I feel over powered the lamb. But this is something that could be fixed. This place is totally hidden under an apartment building near the Riverwalk in Downtown Reno. But WOW, what a gem!! I heard of Shawarmageddon through social media and had been dying to try them. Their menu is pretty simple, you choose a protein, sauce & seasoning then choose a wrap or bowl. I had the Falafel Bowl & my husband had a Lamb Gyro Wrap. We were both VERY pleased with the flavors & portion sizes. Everything was very fresh & vibrant. My only complaint was that it was really expensive. For the Falafel Bowl, Lamb Wrap, coke & water our total was $32 I love supporting local business and I believe in high quality products, I was just slightly taken aback by the cost for lunch. It's been hard finding easy to go options during COVID that don't require grub hub or something similar, but shawarmageddon made it easy. I called and made an order, and it was ready to pick up in 15 mins! They were really patient with all my questions, and I appreciate the way they packed things to go. It makes me feel more comfortable when restaurants go the extra distance and take precautions. We got one lamb and one chicken warp with the red and yogurt sauces, SO FLAVORFUL! Last weekend was our 1st Shawarmageddon trip. I have been dying to try this place for a good while now but something ALWAYS seemed to come up when I wanted to go. Anyways HOLY *many curse words*. "Eat and Destroy" is a perfect way to put it. I felt like the most satisfied warrior in all of the land of Reno. My taste buds are crying at me for more. It was that darn good in my opinion. I had a chicken shawarma wrap with all the fixings. Added the harissa and labneh sauces, and stole some of my fiances habanero sauces for some bites. If you look at the photos this thing is huge. They didn't skimp on anything. I could taste the varieties of amazing spices. The lemon vinaigrette in harmony with the roasted flavors of the harissa and balanced with the hummus and yogurt style sauce called labneh. The meat was juicy despite the other reviews in which I had seen some complaints on that. I guess sucks they didn't luck out like me? Not dry in the least. Then the pickles veggies I could just eat by themselves and be happy. The guy that helped me was a rad dude. Very accommodating while tossing jokes back and forth with me. I asked to have the other wrap basically completely plain with everything on the side. This way my infamously picky eating fiancee could at least tryyyyyyy the items and see if I could coax him to enjoy them another time all on the wrap (Which he loved all of it too). Pain in the butt... I know don't harp me too haha. Regardless the guy working teased and even wrote on his wrap "Plain AF" which amused us both quite a bit. He made sure to ask me questions to ensure I was happy. Gave plenty of all of the things in the side. I appreciated that so much because more often this gets someone annoyed with me which is never fun. SO they got triple A+ for that. Not to mention being downtown but with their own parking area is glorious. Obviously I am a huge fan from the start. Holy Shawarmageddon! This place was amazing! Huge portions, amazing fresh ingredients, super friendly staff. This place does not disappoint with the food quality and the portions. The portions of these shawarma's are huge, like the size of my fore arm huge! And they are stuffed with filling. The place is a tiny little hole in the corner of an apartment building, a little dark locale that has a dark aesthetic as well. Disappointed, yet again. No sauce, no pickled veggies? Consistency is key when running a restaurant, or any business for that matter. We loved this place the first time we tried it last year, but every time since has been an incredible let down. The meat here is extremely fatty and often very burnt, but smothered in sauce in hopes that you won't notice. So... I pretty much love this place. Came here on a recommendation and though it wasn't exactly easy to find, it was well worth the extra lap around the block to find it. Total hole-in-the-wall that I was still unsure of as I walked up to the door. As soon as I saw the pentagram goats head logo with wraps coming out of its ears and I knew I had finally arrived. The thing that sold me was the sign that said "All employees must carve Slayer into their arms before returning to work". Yes!!! I popped my head in and looked around and saw no one until some skater kid popped his head out from the kitchen and said "Hey". I quickly decided to order the top menu item, just because, which was the Shawarma Wrap. And I ordered it with lamb, just because (and I don't even like lamb). Then the kid asked me what sauce I wanted and I said "Huh?" and looked up at the list. There were six choices and he said I could have up to three. How to choose? Trying to make a good decision I quickly asked homeboy what were his favorites. He rattled off some gibberish and I said "Nice! Let's do it!". I have no idea which ones they were, but I do know that they were delicious! So, the wrap came out pretty quickly and was quite large and dense, like a fatty burrito. Once I got it outside and peeled back the tinfoil, the most incredible smells came wafting out, right along with the pickled veggies and the sprouts and the crispy, juicy lamb that were overflowing sauces and juices and deliciousness. I was so glad I had grabbed some napkins. I'll tell you that I ate that whole danged thing without stopping to take a single breath. My gods it was so, so good and now all I can think about is how I cannot wait to go back and to take all my friends and loved ones with me. I really need one of those T-shirts too. read more

I've been here maybe 20+ times in the two year span that I've known this place. I can't recommend shawarmageddon enough to people new to Reno, and excitingly enough they just got added to Uber eats!! For food, I get the lamb wrap with sauces: labneh (creamy) , harissa (spicy) , and habanero (extra spicy). The croquettes have some delicious zingy sauce and the donut dessert is a must-try. Yummo! I remember Shawarmageddon being a hot local business for quite some time, but for whatever reason, I never checked them out. So glad I found myself here on a lady date! We were originally just planning to meet for coffee, but we were both pretty famished and asked our barista for nearby recommendations for sustenance. I LOVE Middle Eastern food, so it was an easy choice. I don't know why I had it in my head that Shawarmageddon didn't have veg/vegan options, I was so wrong! Their falafel is EPIC. At first glance of the menu, I thought the idea of $12 for a wrap was ridiculous. I was pretty hungry though, and the sauces all sounded delicious. They are open for take-out only, masks required. Their dining area is so small though, they are much better-suited for takeout anyway (there are so many beautiful areas to sit by the river), regardless of the 'Rona. I must say that you get what you pay for. While I initially balked at the price, my delicious, fresh, satisfying wrap was at least the size of my forearm! The Ashtanur bread was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Falafel? PERFECT texture and seasoning!! Veggies were super fresh, and the sauces had just the right amount of coolness and spice, without being overwhelming. So glad these guys are still around, and I feel like a total artard for not hitting them up sooner! read more

Next time hopefully the won't be out of Tolum. The portions are huge. I maybe ate a quarter of the wrap. The flavors were amazing. The garlic sauce is to die for. A few years ago, I tried to come to Shawarmageddon with my ex-husband, yet he didn't want to try the food because they didn't have a sauce he liked (Picky Eater). And at that time, I kind of agreed because I too had only had shawarma with that sauce and honestly not wanting to fight the man, I gave in and ate somewhere else. Not only is my good friend Vegan, but she's so goth that I just had to bring her here! The interior hasn't changed at all. It is still hidden in a small corner of what I think is an apartment building?? I'm not sure. With just an ordering window and a single bar stool like table for seating. Black walls, Satanic symbols, and mass amounts of screamo rock music coming from the kitchen really set this place apart from all the other places in town! (Also after looking at the menu's similarities, with my vegan friend, we were wondering if it is the same owners as pneumatic diner!?) Anyway... I decided to try the lamb shawarma wrap and the spiced chick peas. The wrap comes with your choice of three different sauces (and here is where I was thrown off last time, not knowing what sauce to get ...and being unfamiliar with them all, I threw caution to the wind!) Therefore I tried Toum, Labneh and Harissa. Served in fresh Ashtanur bread with cabbage and carrot slaw, Pea Shoots, House pickled cucumbers, Roasted Red Peppers, House pickled red onion, Mint, Hummus, House lemon vinaigrette, and with the sauces I added... This lamb shawarma was literally amazing. The lamb had little bits and pieces of fat and crispy edges on it which added so much flavor, while the vegetables were all cool and crunchy with just a bit of zing from the house pickled onions and cucumbers. Two of the three sauces I chose were spicy so it did have a kick too! The spiced chickpeas were to die for and everybody needs to go and try at least those.
