When we are in Boulder, Co for a month or two of the summer months we make sure we go to The Hungry Toad on a regular basis. The owner there is from England ( like my husband) and has set his pub up just like one you might find in England. The beer selection is very good there and the full bar is very well stocked. But my favorite and is a must have is the French Onion soup. It is the best I have had anywhere. Of course, the fish and chips are excellent too. The location is also worth mentioning because it is close to Pearl St. A bit of a walk but not bad. read more

I've become a regular here, and I always have a 5-star experience! I love the fact that a number of the menu items are stellar. The salads are beautifully presented and everything from the blackened salmon to the greens to the dressings is perfectly fresh. The burgers are great, too... I like the Santa Fe burger, and there's a spicy dipping sauce that takes the fries to another level. The inexpensive house wines are not bad, and they have nicer wines and beers, too. The servers are always attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and suitable for groups, families, or dates. The locals know the place is great... it's usually close to full, even on a Tuesday... but I've never had to wait for a table. My only reservation is that I end up spending more than I'd like, but it's not expensive by Boulder standards. read more

Came to the Hungry Toad because we didn't know where to eat, and had never been. I can't say I was too impressed. I was initially excited over the enormous menu, but the service was meh at best. I had the chicken teriyaki burger, and it tasted like a fast-food burger, except it cost about three times as much. My boyfriend got one of the fancy sounding burgers, and found it meh as well. I've driven by the Hungry Toad a hundred times, but this was my first stop. We were hungry for a burger and the Yelp reviews drew us in. The South of the Border burger was the best burger I have had in a long time. My husband LOVED the french onion soup as much as I did my burger. But even more surprising was the From Dusk 'til Dawn cocktail. Somehow, it smelled delightful when our server it set it in front of me. The first sip and flavor was even more scrumptious. I have been coming here with my friend for a awhile now and will continue to do so. It's great for a quite lunch or for a up beat dinner. The food is very consistent every time, definitely grab the pesto chicken or Cajun Alfredo it's so good every time. I love the pint glasses the most, my beer looks great in it! The only criticism I have is the pasta dishes could do without the parsley garnish on the rim of the plates. (Nothing should ever go on the rim it looks messy). That's why I had to to drop to 3/5 sorry it could really do without it. read more

Ok so first of this is not a yuppy/ millennial type of place. It is a bit scruffy, service is brusk and language here is not politically correct, and there are no "safe-zones". Very aesthetically appealing. Large menu with many options. I think the one I choose was just not so good. It was a veggie melt with veggies your really don't melt... and everything was raw anyway. Food is great, service is always poor. We live a few blocks away and walk over often. Have never had a friendly server. We have never even had a server smile at us. For this reason, we typically go to Boulderado where they are always super friendly. My wife and I call this place the Angry Toad. read more

I have eaten here before because it is close to where I live. This time I ordered a "loaded" baked potato. The potato was huge, but very dry. I asked for some butter, and someone (not sure if it was our server) brought 2 frozen pats of butter. I ate the topping and left the potato. Our server didn't come back at all. I can deal with bad servers, but the lack of managers was disappointing. Places that care about their customers have managers who walk around and check to see if customers are happy. This place has good burgers. Juicy and perfectly cooked. I had their Dirty Hungry Toad Burger that came with bellpeppers among other things and it was really good. You know what - this place is just swell for what it is. Britishy, kitchey-homey atmosphere, great service, and large servings. My friends love the giant nachos, I like the burgers, and I've enjoyed lunch, dinner, happy hour, and closing there. I tend to stick to the more "mainstream" restaurants when I eat out, but my family and I chose "Hungry Toad" to change things up, and I was pleasantly surprised! The setting was laid-back and relaxing, and I enjoyed eating somewhere not buzzing with tons of activity. Awesome kick-back atmosphere and great drinks/appetizers! My friend and I went here after a hike up Mt. Salinas, and it was the perfect post-workout spot. Despite the fact that it was graduation weekend and people were lined up out the door, they managed to squeeze us in and be quite attentive in their service. My husband and I pre-gamed here before heading to Denver for a concert. Love the neighborhood bar atmosphere with people on the patio waving to people walking by on the street. Yes they have your typical pub fare but a much wider selection. I had the Dirty Bird- a chicken sandwich with sautéed mushrooms, sweet onions and peppers complete with crispy bacon. Very good! My husband tried the Ahi sandwich and thought it needed a "secret sauce" because it was a bit dry despite having it cooked on the rarer side. The service was quick and friendly. This is a cute British style pub. We tried their chicken wings... which were really good, but different. They had a tomato/onion/jalapeno- almost salsa like consistency sprinkled on top. The wings were spicy, but hit the spot. I've only been here for lunch, but their menu was large and food at the other tables looked really tasty (yes, I'm one of THOSE people who spy on your food and then say "ooh, I want THAT")!
