While walking into the Home Depot in Watching NJ on rt22 was never the same cringe-experience one would get from any Walmart in any town, it's starting to approach it. Not for the shoppers, but for the employees. One expects to lose the familiarity and earnest helpfulness of a Mom and Pop hardware store, )closest thing to that nowadays is an Ace Hardware,) but some "workers" at this Home Depot take in professionalism to the next level. Came in for a quick unique hardware purchase, and of course could find one to help. But I could find clumps of employees chatting, laughing, and talking about their weekend plans, clothing and other gossip no one should overhear. This was not one cluster of lazies, it was several about the store. How does a manager justify keeping these people on staff? Oh I forgot, it's Home Depot. DO NOT PURCHASE LARGE APPLIANCES HERE I purchased a GE profile washer/dryer May 8th, 2025 and paid extra for the professional installation and 3 year protection plan. We left for the weekend to attend a wedding shortly after it was installed and returned to a flooded basement. Our plumber identified that the washer/dryer was the culprit, and a faulty installation stripped one of the plastic connections causing a slow leak (which we didn't immediately notice since it started behind the unit). We called Home Depot who referred us to GE for a repair / replacement. GE has been to our home now 3 times over the course of 6 weeks, ordered 3 sets of parts, and has fixed absolutely nothing - their repair person actually dented the unit and the leak has broken it completely (no heat in dryer). GE stated we need to ask Home Depot for a refund or replacement, and their service tech candidly told us GE never deems a unit "unrepairable" and will continue to order random parts and schedule service appointments every two weeks hoping something works / the customer gives up. After explaining the issue to Home Depot June 2nd, the Watchung store manager refused to refund the faulty unit (which their installers broke) and told us we needed to call Allstate under our protection plan. Allstate, when called, told us they can't replace the unit until the manufacturer warranty expires (in a whole year) and only the Home Depot can replace or refund us. The dryer unit is still leaking, doesn't heat, and nobody is willing to take responsibility for selling a defective product (Home Depot, GE, or Allstate). We did everything "right" and AS OF JUNE 19, 2025 have property damage (the soaked basement carpet we had to blow out for 72 hours), emotional distress, and haven't been able to wash our clothes in our home for months. I have no choice but to love The Home Depot because I'm there several times a week looking for ways to improve my indoor as well as outdoor living space. If I can't find it in the store, I can usually find it in online. I will say the culture of Home Depot has changed over the years, the workers aren't as eager to Voluntarily offer assistance, I do miss that because this store can be quite intimidating to some (like myself @ times). If you inquire assistance the people are usually pretty friendly. In terms of pricing I think they're pretty reasonably priced in comparison to their competitor, which I also patronize quite often; but since Home Depot is right around the corner from me, it's one of my most visited spots. Every Home Depot is different in selection and quantity of merchandise. I'm pretty sure that we all know that by now but just stick with Me as I'm about to make a point here. And that is - that this H.D. has one of the better Garden Centers around. They have Huge selections on Tomato Plants, Annuals, Perennials, Potting Soils, Mulch, Grass Seed, and Landscaping Tools. The main part of the store seems well stocked and well maintained too in all my "usual" and favorite departments. Had some Keys made, bought some Chainsaw Oil, Galvanized Deck Screws, Kitchen Faucet, Duct Tape(Bill's a regular Mr. Fixit), Sawzall Blades, Plants, Grass Seed, and Headed out through the Garden Center where I checked out and was on my way fairly quickly. I'll definitely stop back down to this H.D. for a different selection of Plants the next time I'm in this part of Jersey. read more

Most of the associates are good but then you have some that are just straight out of the ghetto. You can never find someone to assist you with finding and item. 50% of the managers are also pretty good and then you have some that are on the same level as the associates so they act just as uneducated. This Home Depot is large enough to have what you need, but buyer beware. Because it's large, a lot of local DIYers and Contractors frequent the store, and the quality control suffers as a result. In coming to this location over the last year, I've encountered well-used faucets, fans with missing parts, and paint that is colored but returned in a white paint bucket, just to name a few. The employees are generally pretty helpful, with a few folks in electrical that know their stuff. They do rotate employees around in departments, so I've had a few occasions where someone tells me they have no idea what they're doing in a department, even though they're the only one there (happens a lot in the paint department). If you know what you need and are willing to potentially make a return trip when your product turns out to be a re-used dud, you'll be fine at this location. If that isn't you, it might be worth a different location. read more

I typically come here once in a while, cashiers and customer service has always been helpful in the past. Unfortunately, there is a nasty customer service returns employee that should be terminated as her behavior today was atrocious. I made an online order for pickup early around 1am. My order wasn't ready, so I contacted customer service told it'll be ready soon I should head over, then I called the store, I didn't get her name however I was left on hold in an excess of 10 minutes. During that time my partner got to the store to pick up the order and advised me I should cancel as he will just purchase the items since they aren't ready. Since he left his wallet home and was just going to pick up, he grabbed the items off the shelf and said is it possible that I can just collect these items under my paid pickup order. While online he observed the male customer service agent in the middle register walk away then walk over to the phone of the nasty employee with the black braids and large Prada glasses' phone and she became irate. She yelled at her colleague don't touch my phone get your own phone!!. He then tried to get the phone and had to walk off because of her atrocious behavior. My partner then got to her register said my girlfriend placed an order and it's not ready, can I just complete the order here and go? She said YEA! I just have to pull up your order. and The woman looked down at the items in his hand and said " oh your girlfriend is the one who hung up on me ". Then then sat there tapping at the computer which froze and she said I'm trying to get the order from my phone to the computer. My partner then asked if he can just take the parts and leave as they're paid for and he picked them himself, she then got nasty and said no sir that's now how this works here. At this point another customer service person comes over and says can I give you a hand? Her response was no I got this while rolling her eyes. My partner asked this possible senior customer service person if he could leave with the items to be told absolutely sir I can email this to you once we get it clarified. It was apparent this nasty employee was intentionally trying to be unhelpful as she thought she was hung up on and unwilling to be helpful in this situation. She's disgusting to her colleagues as well as patrons and should be terminated. The incident in questions occurred between 1050 am and 11 am, Sunday October 29th Thank you to the senior customer service representative that was helpful in this situation, it must be difficult to work with such a rude employee. read more

Customer service was in there and the machine just froze with my money in there.It gave me some change, but they didn't give me all my money or the receive on my purchase. Went today to buy a grill. I found the grill I wanted on the floor but it was kind of messed up so I wanted to see if they had anymore. I Asked 2 associates talking to each other a few isles down and they pointed me to the outdoor garden area. The lady in the garden area told me it was the indoor area and she paged for someone 2 times and nobody came to help. She seemed like the only person that was actually working because the rest of the people were too busy talking to one another or outside chatting it up with a friend. Things didn't always go as smoothly as I'd like them to but I could really sense that there was a sincere and concerted effort by the majority of the staff to provide as good of an experience as they could. We ordered new carpet for our home from your Watchung, NJ store. We had a very tight deadline. Our install date was Friday, May 24th, as our move-in date was November 29th. The installers came on Friday, May 24th to install. They removed all the carpeting from the home - 3 bedrooms, halls, stairway and living room and then replaced with padding, etc. When starting to install the new carpeting in the living room, as they were unrolling it, it was terribly ripped. As they unrolled each fold, the destruction continued. The entire roll of carpet was destroyed. This carpet was intended for the living room, stairs and hallways leading up to the bedrooms. They could not even salvage enough for the stairs. They installed in the three bedrooms, as each room had different carpet. We immediately ran to the store to see what could be done. Unfortunately, it was a holiday weekend, as Memorial Day was the following Monday. We decided to reorder a different carpet, but nothing could be delivered and installed before we moved in. We had to move in with carpet pads, staples all over the place, and it was an utter mess. The movers had difficulty traversing around the rough edges of the carpet padding (as it's not intended to be walked on.) We have pets that we had to quarantine in rooms as we were too nervous for them to walk on the pads. My husband stepped on a staple, and had a NAIL lodged into his shoe. This was truly a disaster! We had to live 3 days walking on this! I have been corresponding with the COS on the flooring floor. She has informed me that we are ONLY getting a $400 discount on the carpet and that WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE GOTTEN THAT SINCE IT'S NOT TYPICAL. Well, to date, we have had no money credited back to our Home Depot card. We have not had one call back, as I have left her several messages. I am so upset and disgusted with Home Depot. I loved our salesman, George; the installers were amazing. The customer service and "fixer" at our local store is a bit on the condescending side and does not even return a call. The only time I talk to her is when I call back and happen to get her on the phone. I do not feel a $400 credit is enough (which we haven't even received that yet and it's been over three weeks, nor had any communication with anyone from the store) for this horrible mistake and terrible inconvenience. It was a disaster moving into our new home on CARPET PADDING WITH NAILS AND STAPLES. At this point, there is NO way I would recommend anyone to this store...or possibly even to Home Depot for carpet, let alone any other kind of product. BEWARE: First of all, a positive: the cashiers are great. They are warm, polite, and helpful. Second, if you DO find anyone in the store that has 'some years on them,', and you need help- go to a them Pronto! The younger employees are horrible. They are lazy, know very little, and love to talk to each other in groups. NO ONE answers phones. I called 3 times in a two week period to see if the saw was fixed. No one knew. I had to drive there to so if it was fixed- NOPE, going on on 2 weeks. Managers were absent. Pro service is a joke- 2 teenagers at stations comparing phone apps.Wasted time and gas. Poorly run. Grabbed a 4 by 8 foot piece of Masonite that was very high up, and a section of a 2 by 4 that was thrown on top of it hit me on the head. In early April I ordered a custom storm door. For two months I didn't hear from Home Depot and none of my calls were return from their mill works department. When I finally got through to someone, they told me the manufacturer was delayed. I said OK, but why wasn't I, the customer, informed about the delays? Crickets. When the door was finally received at Home Depot from the manufacture, the told me to contact the installers to arrange an installation. I said isn't that your job? Why am I now tasked with managing the project. You're suppose to contact the installers and get dates and provide them to me! Anyway, I contacted the installer and they scheduled the installation for 6/24/21 (two more weeks delay) I said OK. On 6/23/21 the installer contacted me to confirm the installation for the following day. I confirmed and took time off from work to be home. At 9:30 on the day of the installation, the installer calls me to tell that the installation crew has been stuck for almost 2 hours at another Home Depot waiting for doors for their morning installation and that because of this delay my job has to be rescheduled (two weeks later)! I cancelled the door. My neighbors had two custom storm doors and an exterior door installed by Lowe's in less than three week, not three months! The Watchung, NJ Home Depot is the worse Home Depot I've ever had to deal with. What can i say. Home Depot to men is like Bed Bath and Beyond to women. It's that one place you can find just about anything for your home.It's the fix all /do all place. I came here specifically to purchase a new gas grill for my hubby.We just moved and needed a new one. They have great prices on gas grills ! Home Depot has a nice display for you to see what they offer.Once i made my selection i went to the section where they are kept and i placed it in the cart ,paid and out the door i was in 15 minutes. It couldn't have been easier. The staff is very knowledgeable with all the products they sell from plumbing items, decorative items,kitchen, paint products you name it. These people have experience. I like that during training for the Olympics Home Depot hires Olympic athletes to work. The only problem i see is men can get lost in here for hours tooling around. So, if you ever send your man in here be aware he might not come home for awhile. ( i know it's happened to me.) I also like that Home depot has classes to teach the everyday common man/woman how to lay a floor. They have all different classes on paint techniques and just about anything to fix and beautify a home. There prices are really good. On a recent trip to Home Depot, I was shopping for LED light bulbs for recessed fixtures. The particular brand and color of the lights were important to me. Unfortunately, they were not located in the correct place. I tried ordering online and received the wrong items. So on my third attempt, Ernest took his time to locate the item for me. We purchased a new dishwasher for our apartment at the end of March, 2019. We paid the extra fee for them to deliver & install the new dishwasher & remove the old dishwasher. The Home Depot representative didn't tell us that delivery & installation would occur on 2 separate days, which is why I only gave them 4 stars. True, the fact may have been mentioned in the paperwork, but it was several pages long & it seems like information the rep needed to pass along. Unfortunately, Home Depot sub-contracted the job(s) of delivery & installation to another company, or companies. That's where the problem started. Delivery went smoothly & the company scheduled installation for the day after delivery. That's where all the trouble started. The delivery team gave us a number for their receptionists' office. After they missed their 10am-1pm installation window, I started calling. & calling. & calling. No one could get in touch with them for over SIX HOURS. When they did, & assured me that they'd be there in 10 minutes, the technician called me immediately after I got off the phone with the receptionist & said they would be there the next day. After I explained this to Home Depot via email, they called within 24 hours. They wanted to hear everything, asked me how they could make it right, met that agreement, & called to check in that we were satisfied. I don't blame Home Depot for this experience - I just hope they ream out that sub-contractor & reconsider their business relationship with them! read more

Perfect! This is your one-stop shop for anything you need in repairs. I've been a customer here for over 20 years and was never disappointed. Recently I came across a major project where I need over 500 pieces of wood. After speaking to the store manager, they directed me to the PRO desk and sat down with Vera. She was awesome! Showed me different pricing and really worked with you to not only complete the order, but keep communication with me. When your spending major money and paying up front. I actually felt comfortable working with her at the store. It usually takes 7 days for the order to get to the store and $80 for delivery which is a GREAT deal. They'll deliver where you want it, let you know an ETA and call you to confirm everything at least an hour before hand. Local shipping companies don't do that. 6 months ago I recently purchased a home but have not been able to move in yet due to a remodel that needed to happen. The process has been unbelievable slow and much of the blame goes to Home Depot, specifically this location. I signed up for a Home Depot Credit Card to take advantage of the 24 month no interest program and purchased approximately $10,000 worth of products. I have had an issue with pretty much every single item. When I called to try to sort through the customer service rep would provide solutions involving coming to the store only to arrive and find out all of that information was inaccurate. Some examples of the issues I've faced have been: 1) Purchased ride on mower and with overnight shipping (cost $80). Mower did not arrive overnight and instead took 3 weeks (only after repeated called to schedule a new delivery). Customer service assured us our $80 would be refunded. It has not been. I've requested it multiple times but have since given up. They also dropped the mower off at my home when no one was home (they were supposed to call) and just left it there. It was then a struggle to remove the crate and bring it to my garage. 2) Purchased a shower base - This took nearly two months to arrive in the store. I constantly received emails to come pick up my order and came into the store multiple times to pick it up, only to be told they didn't have it. After waiting over a month I called customer service (again) and this time was told that the shower actually got lost in transit to the store. Of course, Home Depot had no idea and didn't do anything until I called to complain before ordering again. So much incompetence. 3) Toilet - this took nearly two months to arrive in the store and when it did it was broken 4) Vanity - Wrong size was ordered and needed to be returned. This was apparent as soon as it arrived but we never received the call that it was being delivered. Another item with no call that was just left outside of my house and left for me to find a way to bring it inside.Was told that I need to return it to the store myself. Unfortunately it is extremely heavy and doesn't fit in a vehicle I own. If you are a woman without access to a few guys and who can lift things for you or a large vehicle when the delivery men just leave things outside you would have some serious problems (unless you are a very strong woman, then you'd be as capable as any men :) ) All in all a horrible horrible experience that has added months to my remodel since I constantly need to return and wait excessive times for materials to be delivered. The 24 months no interest is not worth it. I will likely have to rent a flat bed and will be returning everything as I don't want to give this company/location any business. read more

I ordered an $1,100 pergola online. It said I could not pick it up, and I would need to pay a flat rate of $80 to have it shipped. I figured I would add on some other items that I needed since I was already paying a flat rate. The delivery comes, it is short a few items, and most importantly, no pergola. They said they don't exist outside of a floor model that they won't sell and will have to refund me. Why have a floor model if nobody has it? I said I only paid the delivery fee because I was getting the pergola. They said the delivery fee was for all of the items and I will not be refunded. Okay, but I didn't get all of the items. There was no email or phone call to say I won't ever be getting the main item that even made me place this order. I would have cancelled. $80 for things I could have easily placed in a truck is insane. Horrible inventory, lack of communication, and bad customer service. read more

Manager passes us off to a person who although was very sweet let me know he's a flooring guy. The woman who passed by made a joke that she avoids appliances like the plague. She also inform be that the manager of this section is late. Perhaps none of this will get done until Monday because no one is here! Ok soo we walk over to buy our patio Future. While everyone AVOIDS EYE Contact we're waiting with2 calls over the loud speaker. Mind you it's 937am Sunday morning. There are tons of employees avoiding eye contact. Meanwhile there must be 6 announcements on how people need help. Wow! Go to another HD this one will offer NO Service. Trying to speak to a Manager is even challenging. Reminds me of my relationship with Verizon. There are some core things they sell that I really appreciate, and a smattering of really great folks working there, esp. tool rental, electric, customer service, one young guy in lumber and one lady in appliances. Really knowledgeable, genuinely helpful, happy, etc. Lucky HD. BUT. 1. Purchased hot water heater (2), dishwasher, refrigerator there in the last 10 years. None of those things came usable, all came via scrappy, delivery trucks (sometimes rented), themselves outsourced by sketchy third party outfits outsourced by Home Depot. EACH had been dropped and dented. This is more complicated than it sounds because you are buying the thing and then setting up your delivery date, which is often 2 weeks, and when the thing comes broken, you're back at the end of the line. That's downright nasty...we (America) no longer make stuff sold at places like HD-now can't even get our service to give an S? What happened, Home Depot? At least with downtrodden BJ's, there is a Costco where things are run properly, lines are decent, and the workers don't act like they are getting abused. Selling Neonicotinoids, (Ortho and other brands) which kill honey bees, as fast as they can drag out the pallets to the center of the floors. Same with "non-selective weed-killing" glyphosate ROUNDUP, which just last week German-owned Monsanto (part of the charming Bayer family) agreed to bank $10 billion to pay for cancer lawsuits associated with that product. (This is probably a Home Depot wide issue, but I'm adding it to the Watchung store because that's my closest HD, and they can try to take some responsibility, show some "cajoles"). TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, one Earth and all that! 3. Sorry but this is during Covid. 100% of your customers at this HD are WEARING MASKS. So... why are only 50% of the indoor workers doing so?? And NOT ONE EMPLOYEE IN THE PACKED GARDENING SECTION. We are at the epicenter of this pandemic. Being around people not wearing masks, or having them pulled down below the nose or even mouth is beyond creeping, it's downright chilling. Why? Please tell us it's not a "political statement". 4. Which brings one to the "elephant in the room", no pun intended. The founder of Home Depot, who still lists himself as Chairman of the Board on official political PAC filings (google Bernard Marcus), is one of Trump's biggest supporters, with breaking up workers' rights agreements, and unionization, as a core issue. He seems to belong to the school of, the poorer you are, the richer I am (as opposed to Costco, which has plenty of rich folks there along with workers who start at double HD's hourly rate which is nothing near a living wage). Same with another HD founder, money-man Ken Langone. The current CEO is another Georgia-based Trump supporter. C'mon, guys, spread the wealth to your workers, you will find that your whole business lifts up. 5. These are all important points so it's a shame this is #5. There is a Home Depot brand called "HomeLite", something like that. Buy it if you want a broken orange thing. Don't buy it if you need your leaf blower, edger, etc. to work more than once. These are sold, I am SURE, simply to prompt you to realize the relatively amazing quality of the next-highest-priced product on the aisle. BEWARE of HOMELITE, it's a sham. Can you believe I write this out of love? I've met so many lovely customers and workers at this store and still get joy going there. I've tried Lowe's, it's very far and the service has been lousy for other reasons, even though I understand its CEO has a soul. And I've found my way around some of the problems-for plants and trees I discovered the amazing Williams Nursery a few miles east off 22, and soil, the downright magical The Yard in Scotch Plains. Both of these places are light years better and cheaper. And of course the service at Huston Lumber in North Plainfield is, well, how service ought to be, those folks were brought up right. But the intent of this review is to improve something that I care about, instead of finding a way to deal with yet another disappointing corporate entity that manages to slide downward over the months and years, emboldened by lowering standards, loosening regulations, and so on. For better and for worse, Home Depot is one of the few places where strangers and friends of all ages end up coming together and sharing an experience, however briefly, and for this reason, along with the great folks working there, I hope that the place can rise to its potential.
