I was referred to them by another hardware store in a neighboring town that didn't repair screen doors. I called and they promised me it back in two days. I brought my multiple torn screen door in and it was back in my possession in two days. Price was very good and fair. Good quality work. I'm going to keep this place on my radar since it's not to far from my residence. It's a small mom & pop operation that has everything I need. I should have read the reviews first!!! Came with a leaf blower issues and before they even took my phone number, I asked to please contact me with a diagnose and quote before repairing, because sometimes is not even worth it to fix it, instead to buy a new one. They called me a week after that the machine was "fixed" and ready to be picked up for $ 75.00, of course I wasn't happy, but I went, paid and picked up. I used the machine and it stop working after 20 min. I took it back right away as their warranty policy is one month only and again, I told them "If it's not fixable, I want my money back and I'll get a new one". Next day, they called me, the machine is ready, they did "another tune-up". I used the machine on the weekend, it stopped working 45 min later. This time I told them I just want my money back because I keep running into the same original issue, wasting time back and forth, never able to finish my cleaning and your warranty expires in two weeks. After this I'm on my own. With a very rude attitude, I was pleased but not before charging me 50% of what I paid for them to do nothing.... Left the place with the exact same issue, about $40 bucks less and wasted 2 weeks of my life back and forth this place. Of course, I was told this was an exemption and a courtesy to me of giving me partial of my money back :(... Bad customer service and hidden fees. read more

I brought my lawn mower to Chestnut Hardware for a tune-up special advertised on his counter top in the Amount of $ 59.99. when I returned to pick it up after a week the price was $ 79.99. Not telling me why the increase. 3 trips later to the store for for adjustments and more charges. I told Manuel, I was never coming back and extremely UN-happy with his lack of service. I had to get a key made for my dad's house and didn't want to have to drive to Home Depot. Walked in and 3 minutes later(and $2 poorer) I had a second key. Very pleased with the rapid service and the guy who made the key could not have been nicer. read more

You want to support local businesses but sometimes it's just not meant to be. I went to Chestnut hardware seeking service for a Troy-Bilt string trimmer. I left with $60 in parts and thought everything was well in hand. Shortly after bringing them home I noted I had a fuel line that needed replacement so back to the store. Replacement fuel line service and spark plugs ran another $60 and I waited about a week for the return of the machine. Picked up the machine again and brought it home only to discover that the replacement reel purchased on my first visit released string uncontrollably making the machine unusable. It was back to Roselle Park (my 4th trip for those counting) where I was told the bump release mechanism needed replacement (another $12 bucks). I brought it home again but the machine performed no better. The uncontrolled release of string was still happening. Well I called Ted and he said it sounded like a entire new head would be needed at a cost of another ~50-60 dollars. He said he would order it and call when the part was in. After a week passed I called and spoke with Ted. He said, with annoyance, that the part wasn't in and that he would call when it arrived. I let another two weeks pass. When I still had not heard anything I called again and the owner Ted had "nothing on his list" about the part and had no recollection of ordering something. Because I apparently am either partial to eccentricity or just thick in the skull I brought the trimmer in again (my 5th visit to this place for this particular tool). Ted showed it to the mechanic who suggested I purchase the same parts I bought on my first visit. When I said that those parts hadn't worked and that he had suggested a new replacement head for the trimmer, he said "I can't help you anymore. You should try Lowes" Whether he couldn't or simply wouldn't he apparently didn't understand that I had gone to him since he was listed as an authorized service center for these machines and that I had wanted to support a local business. Well I cannot recommend him for parts or service. I spent more than $125 with him, made 5 trips to roselle park, paid for parking and still don't have a working trimmer. Sometimes supporting the local place is a lost cause. Pass on Chestnut Hardware now and in the future. read more

Great store. Every time I visit I encounter the best customer service. In addition to selling products, they also repair lawnmowers.

New to the community eager to support local business. My first trip was to pick up some copper joints for my husband. The owner was helpful, prices were good, I left a happy patron ready to return. Friday (08/26/2016) I went in to get some documents notarized. The service during my previous visit was great and the owner's services were recommended by someone else in the area. Seemed like a great choice and everything occurred smoothly except for the fact that her charged $5.00 per signature. The state mandated price is $2.50 per signature. There were three other customers present, I did not wish to make a scene so I paid what was asked and politely left the store. In the evening I told my husband of the event and he informed me that it is illegal to overcharge for notary services. Such a shame [sad emoji] we were really looking forward to being regular patrons as my husband is an avid DIY that would rather not go to the big stores all the time. read more
