They never have what I need, have a pompous aura about them (especially when they're calling the police on the businessmen from next door, who are pumping money into our local economy), and seemingly don't believe in good customer service. I was doing some early Christmas shopping and looking at getting my wife a power drill. The staff was very helpful showing me the craftsman's, Black & Decker, Dewalt and Milwaukee models. I want to support local, family-owned businesses. That's why I'm willing to pay three times as much compared to a big box store, and keep my spending local rather than have it go to Bentonville, Arkansas. However, what I also DON'T WANT is the owner's political opinion to go along with my purchase. So on Saturday Dec. 10, 2016 I was annoyed to see a "SEND HILARY TO PRISON IN 2016" bumpersticker prominently displayed behind the cashier. I asked the clerk if the store always advertised its political opinions like that and he answered, "I dunno. I only work here part time." There's a reason why salesmen used to wear lapel buttons with pictures of both candidates during campaign season. read more

I've been here twice before and each time I got in and out pretty easy, but that's because I knew exactly what I wanted/needed. Today, I tried to buy some industrial strength adhesive for a piece of my bike that is loose. The woman (first time meeting her) told me she is not a bike store and she can't help me. I told her I needed adhesive or anything to just make the metal piece stick to a plastic piece. She again told me to go to the bike store and then told me whatever I need, she doesn't have (a hardware store without adhesive? I found some at CVS). I thanked her for her time, and she just turned around. No smiles, no thank yous, no leads to a good bike store, just a pretty much a vibe of "get the hell out of my store, I don't want be bothered by your bicycle." I will not be returning to this store even though it is a 2 minute bike ride from my house. read more

Cute little local old-school hardware store. Good alternative to the Home Depots of the world. Tools and trinkets for all your minor repair and project needs. Friendly prompt service--the guy led me to the correct light bulb so as to not burn my apartment down like I was apparently trying to do. I also got some wrappy tape (pumbing tape?) to try to make my showerhead stop spraying off into the breeze. Got some keys made too. read more

This is a nice store, with great customer service and wide assortment of products. I have bought from Kryston, planting soil, cleaning products, gardening shears, some tools, light bulbs, a fire alarm, and made an extra pair of house keys for my husband. They have always been kind. read more

We simply love having this hardware store in town. As a do it your self-er, this store has always had exactly what we needed plus the owners are ready and willing to give their knowledgeable advice. The store is well organized, and you can be sure that if they don't have it, it can be ordered. Need copper tubing cut to a certain length? They can do it. Need help deciding which wheelbarrow or shovel to purchase? They can take you through the pros and cons of all of them. And when all is said and done, they will help you get all your purchases to your parked car. I know of no big box chain store that can provide any or all of these services. read more

They won't try to sell you some expensive fix you don't need, and will walk you through step-by-step instructions for any project you could think of. We always find what we need here and the sales help is professional and knowledgeable. They carry harder to find items like copper and brass wire of different gauges as well as seasonal items like Christmas lights. Help keep the neighborhood stores going. Shop local!! read more

This is really a paint store (an excellent one) that also sells hardware. They know a ton about painting; when you talk to them you are getting free painting consulting. They have a small but carefully precise selection of stuff that you need for painting. I made this my first choice for paint after having gone to home depot first, ending up in trouble and then coming here where they bailed me out with good advice and products. Only downside there is that if you are looking for Benjamin Moore, they don't carry it (I think they used to). Go here for advice and the right primer and other supplies though. They will understand. It's also unbelievably convenient to have a paint and hardware store right in town. Of course their prices are higher than the big box stores. I think it's absurd to complain about that-- their costs are way higher, and convenience counts for a lot. In general I disregard any negative reviews based on friendliness of the staff, since that is actually not that important to me (do they have what I need? can I benefit from knowledge I don't have? Is the food good? I care about this much more than whether the staff is cranky on a slow Thursday afternoon). They can be a bit prickly if you come in and act like you know what you're talking about when you actually don't (painting properly is actually not as easy as the Home Depot commercials make it out to be). Own up to your ignorance and pearls of wisdom (and knowledge) will be given to you for free. As a hardware store their selection is decent, not huge. Don't come here for a Hilti nail gun, but if you need a plunger or light bulbs or carpet tacks or a specific nut and bolt, or a key made, they've got it, and you don't have to get on route 78 or 22 to get there if you are a Summit resident. It's also nice to have something that's now a rarity-- a true family owned, neighborhood store where they know their stuff. read more

From having keys made to matching paints to picking up salt for my water softener or any number of odd items that a nearly 100 year-old house may need, Kryston's has been my go to hardware store for over 20 years. The owners have been very helpful over this time, even helping me figure out the supplies needed for a Cub Scout craft project (making chess boards). They don't have lumber or sheetrock, but they have a wide variety of quality staining and sealing products and practically every type and size of nail or screw. They fix screens and glass windows. They also have a snack spot dedicated to the memory of their young son Scott, who was a welcome fixture at the store until his demise. A true neighborhood gem! read more

This is a nice hardware store. The staff knows their stuff and is helpful. If they don't have what you need they offer suggestions of where to find it.
