What an awesome little store. I'm a huge believer in shopping small. But in the case of this gem of a hardware store, I really see no compelling reason to go elsewhere. I love when you walk into a place and it smells of wood. It's a nostalgic smell that instantly brings me back to my childhood going to Goodman's Hardware in Fair Lawn. I've gone to Karig's several times to find various fix it items and have yet to go elsewhere. While their selection can't match their behemoth rival, Home Depot, it's not always about selection. Matter of fact a lot of times more selection means more confusion. And speaking of confusion, if you need help or advice on anything home improvement wise, their staff is more than happy to assist. Worth mentioning is that their prices on Weber grills are more than competitive. A really great store that I can't recommend highly enough. Much thanks! read more

Thank you co-owner, Dante for your snide comments and dismissive treatment because you didn't like that I asked so many questions about the Ooni Volt Pizza Oven that you were providing a 20% off discount ($720) with a $50 UPS shipping fee. As things turn out, it was a blessing in disguise as Amazon and Ooni currently has it for 30% off or $629.30~ It arrived this afternoon and will soon be enjoying it knowing my hard earned money did not go to an insulting person. With Amazon, if there are any issues, they will pay for it to be shipped back for a replacement or full refund. Does Karig's offer free return shipping if a product is defective or a full refund? Doubtful. They're a small business so should be treating people much more respectful. Here are a few things Dante said to me on my second phone call after he got rid of me on the first call, "I have to go"... - I'm running a business, you asked me a million questions - I answered all your questions - so did you call a hundred places to find out what they charged? (actually no, I had not) At the end, he asked if I was ready to order and I asked to confirm the $50 UPS shipping charge. He said he had to take an order so I hung up the phone. If true and he wanted to sell the Ooni to me, the proper and professional way would have been to ask if I could call back the next day. He wants the easy sale and wants a customer to order without asking too many questions which is his prerogative but just know his true character or two-faced persona; pleasant when you're ready to spend and insulting when not. Obviously, Dante didn't want or need my business but either way, I'm happy I got a better deal and my hard-earned money went elsewhere where customers are valued and treated much better. Today, I stopped by Harig's Hardware during my lunch break to pick up a few items. When I went to pay, I realized I did not have my wallet. I took it out of my purse yesterday and forgot to put it back. When I apologized and said I would have to come back, he said, "don't worry about it...you can call me with the information." He was serious! He bagged my items totaling $50 and handed the bag to me!!! I knew I was good for it, but he didn't. He didn't even take down my information. Instead, he gave me a business card with the total amount of my purchase and his first name. I was floored! I was so moved that I drove all the way home before returning to work (1 hour) because I wanted to be sure to call him asap with my credit card information. These guys rock! I'm in florida and NJ is having high temps in the 15 degree range with lows around 0. My 80 yr old mothers apt in West Orange is 56 degrees and because of yesterdays snowfall she can't get out of the house. I called them from florida and asked if I bought an electric heater if they could somehow get it delivered to her the same day. Dante took care it and she got it within hrs of my call. This summer the gentleman at Karig's saved me from a grill meltdown. The short story is I ordered a grill from Lowe's. After several problems: could not process the order, could not deliver it, delivered the wrong grill and on and on.... I was in Karig's casually talking about the nightmare of shopping in the "big box" hardware stores. They told me they could get the grill, same price(Lowe's advertised my model as an exclusive - by the way...), set it up and deliver it in a few days. I was beyond happy! I was on my way to the Home Depot to pick up some paint supplies when I saw this hardware store on Livingston Ave. Initially, I was reluctant to enter because I saw that they were about to close, but they welcomed me warmly to their store and provided excellent customer service. I explained to Scott what I was looking for and within two minutes, he had everything that I needed to fix my damaged wall. He went as far as explaining to me in detail how to use the products and gave me some tips and tricks to ensure great results. Despite walking in last minute, I did not feel rushed at all and was ultimately very happy that I decided to pay them a visit. Not to mention, the prices were way better than those you would find at Home Depot or Lowes. If you're due for a trip to the hardware store, this is the place to go. i have been shopping at karig's for 20 years, since we moved to town, and have always believed in the power of small, local stores with good variety and knowledgeable people. i was willing to pay the 30%+ premium to home depot (or even other ace hardware stores, like the one in roseland) because it reminded me of a store my grandfather owned -- dedicated to local buyers. yesterday was the last time i will go into this store. i had purchased some loose hardware two weeks ago and at the time, said i wasn't sure if i needed metric or US thread -- nothing was said about loose hardware sales being final. was in there yesterday, to return the loose hardware, about 15 minutes before closing time. the SAME GUY who helped me was on the phone, loudly, with a casino in atlantic city. another clerk asked if i needed help (found out they don't have the metric thread parts i needed), so i asked the phone clerk if i could do a return. his comment "we usually don't do returns on loose hardware". if so, where was the sign to that effect? sure didn't say it on my sales slip. i'll eat the $4 of parts, but i was so appalled at the attitude, the laziness, and the "me first" issues (you want to book a night in AC, fine, do it at 4:35 when you lock the door) that i am done here. yes it's homey and yes they have a lot of more obscure items (where else can you get turnbuckles outside of a marine supply store) but -- not worth the aggravation. read more

A real old-fashioned, help you find what you need, well-stocked local hardware store. Everything from nails to housewares, paint, screws, tools and things you just can't even guess what they're for. Can't imagine the reviewer who said the staff were rude was actually in this store; it's as friendly and jovial as can be. You expect Andy Griffith to roll up and chat with Floyd the barber. But it's not just quaint. It's actually a place to find what you need and someone who can help you find - and use - it. read more

This is a marvelous store. I've shopped from three generations of the same family in this store and they all are friendly and knowledgeable. At most hardware stores women are treated as if they know nothing. This is never the case at Karig's. They are a source of pride in Livingston center. read more

Rude and obnoxious service in attempting to return ~$40 in merchandise. Store is dirty, staff is rude, and their policy is only ten days for refunds. pat hey point out thatt store credit offered as a courtesy. Only. They made me say please to get a store credit.
