Today was about the worst experience of my life at Home Depot. And I love this place. But I went to the pro center just to ask a quick question so that I could have a shower, a walk-in shower installed for my mother that fell last night. I was in line although there's no clear place where you should be standing to be in line for the Pro center when someone finally did notice me, he pointed about 30 feet away at the end of the lumber aisle where the line began although there was no line there was one person waiting about 30 to 50 feet away from where you would even be noticed. So I got in line and I asked the guy how long he had been there because these three guys aren't helping customers they're on the phone. They're on the computer, but they haven't really acknowledged my existence or his existence. I finally told him let's move up the line closer to where they can see us so that they don't forget us and once we did that one of the gentlemen took the guy Riteaway, which means, obviously, he didn't know somebody was waiting. So then I waited an additional 10 minutes, just to ask the question and was ignored, even after the gentleman in front of me left, he didn't acknowledge me. He didn't say I'll be a few more minutes, sir. No acknowledgment from any of these three guys and the two people that walk through. Finally a lady who showed up five minutes before finished up with her customer, her name was Bobby and she was on her way out the door to go home and I said, just a quick question I need something installed and I filled out the form at homedepot.com and there's people calling me that will not install things I buy at Home Depot. Why are you suggesting these people on your website. She apologized. She took a moment to take my information and put it in the computer even though she should be going home, and I kept telling her no, you don't need to do this. Just go home I will find another way to do this. I used to be in the union and it is unfair that you should go home and you're helping me, but it did only take a few minutes and I can't thank her enough for putting me in the computer in the right place that I can find somebody to install a walk-in shower for my mom who fell last night. Aloha my friends! I went to pick up a couple of things at Home Depot today. I strolled past all of the fun Halloween decor they were selling and people young and old were enjoying them. There's nothing funnier than walking past ghouls and ghosts on your way to hardware. I knew where the item was I was looking for but asked a customer service person for help zeroing in on its exact location. With his help, I found it. On my way to self checkout, I was happy to see the new self serve displays. They make it as easy as entering my phone number to receive my military veterans discount. No more jumping through hoops with the Home Depot app to verify my veteran status. The discount gives me 10 percent off and these days, every penny counts. I ordered a Roman blind from blinds.com which is owned by Home Depot and had one of their employees measure my window. When it was installed IT DID NOT COVER MY WINDOW AT THE LOWER HALF. it was one inch less wide than measured. I called their customer service and they said it was supposed to be that way. That is a problem because it looks awful and people outside can see in my window which is not what I wanted. DO NOT USE BLINDS.com. home depot blinds - bought blinds through home depot. their supplier provided me with these obsolete blinds that are basically illegal in california unless the straps are secured to the wall. straps secured so tightly that blinds are barely functional when installed that way. complete garbage and all home depot did was to keep referring me back to the supplier who stonewalled me and then gave me a bunch of nonsense excuses. why bother going to home depot if they are not going to stand by their products/suppliers? i paid $3,500 for something that really doesnt work and home depot was no help. never again, go direct, as home depot provided no benefit. read more

Terrible experience with Assistant Store Manager, Nicole today. After being told I could get a refund by a manager (Mike) in garden, I was treated like some kind of grifter criminal by ASM Nicole who told me she didn't know who Mike was and that he was probably an associate. When I explained all the trouble I went through to call and take a video of the dead Christmas tree and that Mike told me I could get a refund she said they don't give refunds after 7 days. I said that's not what I was told and she said "well I'm telling you what the policy is." At this point I'm losing my patience since she's the third person I saw to try to help me and she walked up with a smug look on her face after her associate told me flatly no refunds. Nicole finally said she could do a store credit I said fine I was going to spend money here today anyway and wouldn't that be horrible for Home Depot? (Sarcasm, again, the money is going straight back to Home Depot. I'm the one who had their Christmas ruined with the dead tree I had to painstakingly underrate.) Hearing my frustration and sarcasm she says, "I won't give you a refund or a credit now." So I said "oh I'm being punished now? Awesome." This whole time another employee was smirking in the background as if I was the crazy one and this was after I waited 15 minutes online for the manager to show up after the first customer service person said they were calling and couldn't tell me how long I was waiting for while she served other customers. So to add insult to injury not only is the garden department selling dead Christmas trees, that they will first ask you to return dead - as if anyone wants to clean needles out of their car for the rest of their life after transporting a dead tree, but then if you finally do talk to a sane person (Mike in the phone) who says it's ok with a video and receipt, you'll take the time to come in with those things and be mocked and spoken rudely to and treated as if you're a criminal. No more Home Depot for me. ***had to throw my Christmas tree away before Christmas and I decorate it' added insult to injury by being treated like a criminal I was given a credit of $30 (wouldn't I try to grift more than that?) which I used and will Never return. read more

Lied to! Was here 8/19/25 in the garden section and got asked to take a "water quality" survey. I did it because the guy was professional and kind. When he asked for my phone number I told him I didn't want to receive a solicitation phone call. He assured me that it was only to "prove to his boss that I was a real person taking the survey". Today I received that solicitation phone call! The guy flat out lied!!! I hold the guy and Home Depot responsible for it. I will not go back to a store that doesn't practice integrity and honesty. This review is long overdue. My husband and I have both remarked how helpful and nice the staff are at our Home Depot in Encinitas. Yesterday I don't know what I would have done without Kathy helping me with paint. She really knows her stuff and she is patient and kind! Then I was helped by a nice young woman at the self checkout when my credit card didn't want to cooperate. Shout out to Karen in the garden department; always so pleasant and patient! In the customer service department, Richard is another standout (I think that is his name; tall olive skin guy with glasses). The guys that help load heavy stuff always do so cheerfully. This Home Depot has the BEST garden section in north county San Diego. I always come to this one when I need anything for gardening or indoor plants. This Home Depot has switched to self checkout. There was a young boy available to help, if need be. I would imagine he is being paid minimum wage unlike the older, previous cashiers. I refuse to use self-checkout when shopping, checking in at the doctor's office, etc., even if the is a line or I am encouraged by staff to use self-checkout. I want a live person to help me. I was at the nursury 4 times within 5 days buying shrubs, trees at different times and Eddie went above and beyond to.look up information, helping me to make the right decision to do landscape for my Front and Backyard It was a hot day and Eddie even helped me to load the items onto my car with great enthusiasm. He always greeted with a smile and did his best under the circumstances to cater to my personal needs. This is the real HomeDepot spirit with a team-oriented approach. Wow. I used to think Home Depot cared about their customers. I no longer do and can't support shopping there after years of spending mega dollars. I purchased a Husky 90" shelf in store and when I got home, prepped everything assembly. This item weigh maybe 200 lbs. I loaded into my car and then into my garage. I started to put it together and then realized that it appeared to be damaged when I got half of it together. I couldn't understand why it was so difficult and started to look at it and realized what happened. I already cut up the box and put it in the recycle bin and since I was near half way, I thought I would take pictures and then go back to Home Depot Encinitas and ask for a store credit since what I purchased for $399.00 was clearly used and sold to me as new, and it was damaged. (See pics). When I spoke to the manager Mack Ruiz, she said you can bring it back and I can get a full refund. I had just managed to put it together over a two hour period, having to bend metal and make it work...and simply wanted a reasonable store credit. She offered me $50. I am so disappointed as a loyal long time customer (14 years). I don't know if I will return but I encourage you to go elsewhere because Home Depot no longer cares about its customers, even when they are in the wrong. You choose. Home Depot is losing my business for two reasons: 1. Not doing the right thing and 2. For selling me something as new that was clearly used and not taking responsibility for it. read more

This review is not intended for the Encinitas Home Depot, but for their corporate offices. Today I received an email from Home Depot which read, "Your delivery has been rescheduled." That was it. No apology. No, "we regret to tell you." Just, "Your delivery has been rescheduled." Like it, or lump it. Does anyone in corporate realize that people have to arrange their days around these deliveries? And what's worse, now I'll have to switch lots of things around for their new delivery date (eleven days later than when the original delivery was supposed to arrive). I wish I had gone with Best Buy, or Lowes, as I suspect the delivery wouldn't have been delayed so long (and if it was, at least there might be a hint of regret in their company's correspondence instead of the cavalier Home Depot communication). read more

More racial profiling regarding suspected shoplifting in Encinitas Home Depot. I'm brown skinned and this is the 3rd time I've been followed by loss and prevention, and the 2nd time I've been accused of shoplifting. This time, a self-checkout worker came over and said, "You got something inside the drainpipe." Apparently, there was a small package of netting inside it and a $1.75 piece of sprinkler pipe. He kept trying to get the netting out by slamming the pipe on the ground, which made everyone look at me. He couldn't get it out and then said there was something else inside the pipe. He then turned the pipe around and the $1.75 pipe slid out on the ground. He then picked it up and held it literally one foot in front of my face and said nothing. Literally, people had stopped and were all starring at us. I just said that I'll get a new pipe and walked away. Of course, he initially didn't say that there is something in the pipe. He had to say, "You got something in there," and proceed to make a big scene and play like he caught me trying to steal a cheap piece of 3-inch plastic. Also, this is the 3rd time I've been followed by plain clothed loss and prevention officers here (security guards). It's completely obvious, and I even told one, "Don't worry, I'm not shoplifting." He then looked surprised and walked away. You can see these guys hanging near the middle of the store near the front, where you go to checkout. They profile the people walking in and choose their mark, which seems to always be someone brown, like me. Then they follow you around. They always wear a baseball cap to hide their gaze when their following you, and sometimes they'll carry around a small item like a real customer. But it's totally this store in Encinitas. I now drive the extra miles to Mira Mesa Home Depot, if I have time, because I've never been profiled, followed or accused of shoplifting there. Probably because in Mira Mesa, there's too many brown people and they just say F - it. read more

I need to buy a new oven/range, microwave, and dishwasher. Home Depot has some good deals, and I was ready to buy. Unfortunately there was no one to help me. I asked several associates, but "not my department " I think there was one older gentleman in appliances, but he was chatting with another customer and never acknowledged me. I was there a good 45 minutes with nobody greeting me or offering assistance. I might go to a different Home Depot, but I had the same poor experience at the San Marcos store. Are used to be a Lowe's devotee. Maybe because the way they treated their veterans back in Virginia. But I've got to say the Home Depot in Encinitas has been amazing. The store is well staffed, always clean, and well stocked. Not that it needs to be said, but I'm a woman Who is not in her 20s or 30s. They've never once spoken down to me or made me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about, because I usually do. I built my tiny house. Replumbed it. Did the electrical. Hundreds of hours spent with these individuals and on my home. I then went to make planters and outdoor boxes and everything that makes my house a home. They again have always been very professional and very helpful. Not that I won't return to Lowe's and I almost did because I was having such a hard time with her veterans app at Home Depot. Getting my self signed in and lined up. But once that got underway, and everything was done, I'm an absolute devotee. read more

Choose another hardware store. Poor product, original hand truck was rusted. They dont care ahout the brand not try to offer solutions. Bought this thing new. I think the guy gave me a 10% off due to rust buildup (that I ended up cleaning and polishing). This was an 800 lb dolly thing that didnt hold up with 200-300 lbs of drinks. The product they reimbursed me the nuts and bolts are loose and why the original one I had bent and broke. Spoke with Nicole who was one of the managers. I mentioned this problem above with the poor building and she did not have a response. Back and forth, alot of BS. Im out of the store now. Said I would write a 1 star review on yelp and she said "Okay" if youre a manager and dont counter a frustrated customer with a solution and try to comfort the customer, they shouldnt be a manager. I went back a few times out of necessity and did get some warm welcomes and thank you have a nice days by the younger employees walking the floor. I don't know if my last review had any impact or not but wanted to follow up to say thete has been some improvement I've noticed. The lady at the service desk is still not very friendly and seems irritated with everyone. Maybe they should put her in the back. Other than that I think there are some good employees that prioritize a pleasant customer experience so I appreciate that. 3 stars because selection is still lacking or nothing is where it should be. I dislike having to go on the website to look up the exact aisle and bay to find my stuff and then go there and it turns out it's 1 or 3 aisles over. Asking an employee they'll just do the same thing and pull up the website and say its over there. Still can't get them to price match their website either. But they will price match Lowe's? Home Depot seems to be undergoing an existential crisis. It used to be that Home Depot and to a lesser extent Lowes were my go-to stores for home improvement, repairs, and other projects. Now it's Amazon. Poor inventory control is the major reason. I can't count the number of times I've checked for items on the Home Depot website, been led to believe the item I was looking for was/is in stock, only to find that at the store - it isn't really in stock. Celina is amazing! We went a few weeks ago to get some gardening supplies bc what else are you going to do during a pandemic? It was a super hot day and we couldn't fine the jasmine. A few store employees pointed us in the right direction but it was still confusing since the jasmine was hiding behind some other plants. Celina walked by and I asked for her help. She took the time to walk us over there and then when I asked her for help to find 3 plants that would be near blooming she got on her hands and knees and crawled under the table to pull some from the back. Now that's going above and beyond. It was hot, the store was busy, and Celina still took the time to make us feel like a priority! If you need help, make sure to find her! The best customer service I've ever had was with a guy named RJ who works at the returns desk. He's kind, patient and really listens. Very poor customer service. Needed assistance in wood and cutting. I made it very clear to the woodcutter what I needed, but he said "this is Home Depot, everything is cheap here, don't expect customer service or anything else." I found another hardware store who was able to do EXACTLY what Home Depot could not. I paid more, but sometimes spending the extra bucks is better than dealing with associates who speak poorly of Home Depot. Dear Home Depot, Less is more. Do not put plastic netting around trees. We asked the gentleman not to put it around our tree and he insisted. Why do we need a plastic netting that's going to end up in landfill or sadly, trapping an animal, killing wildlife, and harming ecosystems. If we needed to net the tree, we would happily purchase rope. It wasn't even helpful. I get the sense that Home Depot has a bunch of trash and the cheapest way to get rid of it is to shove it onto customers and disguise it as "helpful". This is inconsiderate to customers and it takes so much time to unwrap the plastic that we didn't ask for. It is a disgrace to the tree and a clear disrespect to the peaceful enjoyment of this religiously significant holiday. Furthermore my cat nearly injured herself in the plastic almost immediately upon bringing the tree in the home.
