The charisma here is unreal. While he was shopping, I asked the guys if they sold buttons but after thoroughly helping me look, he said ACE didn't carry them. UNTIL- plot twist- the guy working literally cut the button off his own flannel and gave it to me. If that's not Michelin star level customer service, I'm not sure what is. I'm 76 years old and a former marketing executive. I've just had one of the most remarkable customer experiences of my lifetime. I (desperately) needed a single bolt for my Toyota Rav 4 to replace my windshield wiper arm. I am vacationing here in Oceanside for the month. It was a $2.00 purchase that was delivered with 24 carat gold service by Nathan the assistant store manager. Nathan was about to end his work day and was working the register upfront. I asked for a little help and he soon learned I needed alot of help. I am not a handy guy to say the least and it seemed like I was trying to do heart surgery. Nathan had some trouble understanding me and thus had trouble finding the right bolt for me. He asked me if I had driven my car there; I had but I parked a block away. He said let's go look at the problem. He actually came with me to my car with two bolts that he thought would work. Nope. Not quite. He went back to the store, got another two, different bolts and they were not quite right. Again back to the store....then back to me at the car. Bingo. He found the right standard bolt with the right thread. 3 tries, five bolts. He even assisted me with installing the new wiper arm probably because he knew I needed all the help I could get. That's what I got from Nathan....ALL THE HELP I needed for a $2.00 bolt. He was well past his quitting time...I'd say by 30 minutes. I was a complete stranger to him but that didn't matter. I needed help and he gave me a priceless experience. Yes, "Ace IS the place with the helpful hardware man." Bravo, Nathan. We went to the two big box hardware stores looking for somthing, neither of them had it. We decided to check out Ace and we're pleasantly surprised. As soon as we walked in, someone asked us if we needed help. We told them what we needed and they told us exactly where we could find it. As we were heading up to the check out, there were a few people in line; a young African American male approached us and said he could help us and opened another register. I use the Ace rewards and more often than boot the person in the register has an issue scanning my Ace bar code. Today I grabbed a couple extras so I'd hit the $30 minimum for my whopping $5 off. Well the "cashier" scanned twice and said it doesn't work. I said why, as we looked at the date and the dollar minimum. He was non responsive, so I paid and went on my way! I won't go back! what's the use complaining now? Yesterday I drove to your store in Oceanside from Bonsall, to get two bolts for a project. I was quickly taken by one of your representatives older guy who took and insisted that he find it for me so when he was giving me a metric bolt, I said no no everything on this bike has been American. It's a Harley and I haven't had any metric bolt on it so far he served me the metric bolt. OK whatever I drove home from Oceanside through that 76 rush-hour traffic with these two Bolts wouldn't you know when I got home? They do not thread in. It is not metric fine thread. Did I have any options? When I said here let me see real quick: he held it the bolt up and away from me. I even witnessed the manager agreeing to approve a refund of a few screws from another store. I was in dire need (for the 2nd time) of fixing my Traeger. Last time it turned out to be the hot rod, this time it seems to have been the controller. Both times this ACE's staff were beyond helpful, went above and beyond, took my unused parts back that I didn't need. They actually worked through my problem with and never once push me to buy a new Traeger (which are all over the store.) Sisto and David were both two of the employees that helped me on these multi day projects. Aaaaand I have learned unfortunately this ACE is one of the last one's left... the other closest is now Fallbrook! This is sad. Home Depot and Lowe's advertise these parts but do not carry them. I needed this fixes on same day otherwise tons of ingredients would have been ruined. This is also my goto place for bolts, as HD and Lowes are pretty bad on selection (HD being atrociously bad at stocking bolts and Lowe's is a bit better.) Phenomenal job Ace Hardware in O'Side! (PS. Not a well known secret that there is a pretty big, almost never full parking lot that is designated as being OK for ACE customers - past the alley behind ACE you can park at when the street parking is full.) read more

Guy on the phone was pretty condescending when I called in to ask if they had Bermuda grass seed. He responded with saying "did you say Bermuda grass seed?" I replied yes and he scoffed and said "you want to plant that on purpose?" I said yes (my husband and I live on a rental property and want to grass the match the surrounding area which is none of his concern but still) which he then laughed again and said well I've spent hours trying to get rid of it. Um, ok? I didn't call for personal advice I called to see if you had any. To which he checked and they did not which is totally fine but the degrading and judging was uncalled for. I never realized how great of a hardware store Ace was until a couple of years ago. I always went to Home Depot or Lowe's instead but the reality is that you can find most of what you need at Ace. It's also easy to find everything and the workers are very helpful. Every time I go here there I get asked if I need help usually by more than 1 employee. I was trying to find a fuse for our broken A/C during a heatwave, and I had the good fortune to speak with Marquee at the Oceanside Ace Hardware yesterday evening (9/24/2022). He said that they did have the part in stock but that the store was closing in a few minutes (we live 45 minutes away in Temecula). I mentioned that our daughter is extremely heat sensitive, thanked him, and said we would drive out the next morning. As I began to call other stores, a call came through and I saw that it was from Ace Hardware. It was Marquee telling me that he would buy the fuses himself and meet us in San Marcos (a location much closer to us) so that we could have A/C working for our daughter right away. What an absolutely outstanding young man and a true Prince Charming!! Marquee gives me hope for our future. Up until now, we only shopped occasionally at Ace Hardware, but we will now be loyal customers. We have a huge home renovation this month, and we plan to make ALL of our purchases at Ace Hardware!! A few days ago I consulted with a older guy about the correct size lag bolt to use in order to affix a long board horizontally across part of a garage wall to aid in my mounting tools. I gave him the thickness of the board, and asked him if the bolts I selected were long enough to penetrate the studs. He pondered and said what I selected were long enough. This friendly hardware man doesn't know his you-know-what from a hole in the ground. Yup! Too short. So I wasted several hours getting to the point to determine the bolts were too short. Now I need to go to Lowes and purchase new ones of the correct length. So much for all the money I lost not being able to work. I'm not a fan of big box stores because you can never find anyone to help. Well, at Ace the people you do find are anything but helpful. read more

This new Ace Hardware store on Coast Highway in Oceanside really surprised me. Once you get inside it's a lot larger than it seems on the outside. They have a small section of household decorating items and a section of cleaners and brushes brooms mops Etc. They have an aisle that's got all the nuts and bolts and things that you would expect at a hardware store, a small tool section, a small section of lights and one of gardening type equipment. It's new, so it looks very fresh on the inside, it's well lit and well-stocked and well-organized. There were plenty of staff on hand to answer questions, show you what aisle things are in, and check-out was very fast. The only weird thing was if you want to park close to the door it's street parking in there's not that much of it but they do have a small lot at the end of the block that's dedicated parking for the store. This is definitely my go-to place when I need to pick up something quick for my properties and I don't want to haul out to Home Depot. read more

I had the BEST Customer Service Experience with this Oceanside Ace Hardware on 263 S Coast Hwy .I ordered 2 Black and Decker power tools on line to pick up at this location. When I get there I was informed that they only had ONE !! I was starting to think"Here we Go" Do I have to wait another week ?? Do I have to come back again and waste my time??? I was getting frustrated already when one the guys came and offered to give me a a BETTER DEAL - to give me the only black and Decker tool they received PLUS a 2 Pieces Craftman Combo to compesate for the missing tool ! WHAT ??? REALLY ?? The Combo alone was Worth MORE than the 2 Tools I ordered !! And of course I said YES !! I could't believe it ! Because most places you have to talk to the manager and Bla bla bla and spend a lot of your time trying to resolve something ,But not here ? I didn't have to do anything of that because to me they really appreciated my Business so they went above and beyond to make it up to me and that's why I'm SO GRATEFUL because they showed that they were really appreciating my Business and they will do anything to make you Smile ! and that's the way I came out from there smiling! :-) THANKS AGAIN To the Guy Who Helped Me Today ! Tonight we came in (me, my husband, and my two little boys 3&5 years old). My sister is painting a mural in their room and we were going to pick out paint. My boys were super excited to see how the paint was made-- but I kept telling them how it was a process, and not easy, and people will be working etc etc. well, Jean (I think!?) was a Paint Angel. She showed the boys exactly what happened, kept them safe, showed them the paint. She wasn't flustered (we were getting 7 sample size cans) or frustrated, but instead, gracious, calm and kind. Was glad to have a local hardware in town but my first issue was I called to ask if they had an item in stock, they told me they didn't have enough staff to check, drove over and all sorts of help on the floor. Second issue was they won't allow bikes in store any longer, said it was a liability problem, leaving your bike outside is a problem in Oceanside and most recently bought an item using a debit card but when I returned the item they said they wouldn't refund in cash, their attitude was they didn't give a damn. I have tried to give Ace my business 3 times. Today was my final attempt. I called earlier to see if they had a poly tub wheelbarrow and was told they did. I ask if it were put together and was told it wasn't but they would be happy to do that. I offered to pay for it over the phone but was told they don't do that. I asked how long it would take to put it together and was told 1/2 an hour. I arrived 40 minutes later to be told that they just sold it. I called them a bit ago to talk to a manager about the situation and he talked over me everytime I tried to find out what happened. I'm all done with Ace Hardware. 3rd time is NOT a charm... read more
