This is very impromptu and honestly the best times are had when it's not planned. We just finished a reggae concert with skip Marley. We wanted Caribbean food and wallah! I found this place because it was near my sons house. We got there about 10pm but they were still serving food. We were happy about that! Soon as we arrived they were very attentive. The music was playing and it seemed like an extension of our evening. As the DJ played reggae Caribbean music. So Let me start with the drinks. The rum punch is straight out of Jamaica. So delicious. Unassuming ... seemed so quiet. I was unsure if they was still open for the night. But i pushed pass my awkwardness and headed to the back and the backyard was a vibe. Coming to you with another review , Grotto experience was great , I was impressed when I walked in , atmosphere was dope , small , but comfortable, they have a back area to accommodate additional seating toward the back . Drinks were good , the also have hookah which I'll get next time . Now let's talk about the food !!! If you're looking for great decor and even better drinks, look no further! Came in on a Wednesday for happy hour and enjoyed their fruit punch, 2 for 1 during happy hour!! We sat at the bar and were greeted by the owners daughter and then got a chance to chat with the owner as well. Very down to earth family and service was great! Great set up with their DJ and hookah. **Restaurant Review: Grotto BK Restaurant** I recently dined at Grotto Restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed with the service. Despite the appealing ambiance, the service was excessively slow. It took 1.5 hours for three appetizers to arrive and a staggering 2 hours for the single main course we ordered. Additionally, I observed a concerning hygiene practice: a staff member went outside wearing rubber gloves and returned 15 minutes later, continuing to work with the same gloves on. This raised significant concerns about food safety. Throughout our wait, the staff did not provide any updates on the status of our food, leaving us in the dark and increasingly frustrated. On a positive note, the food was good, but certainly not worth a 2-hour wait. The drinks were mediocre, adding to the overall disappointing experience. Overall, I would rate this place 3/10 for service, 7/10 for the food, and 5/10 for the drinks. Unfortunately, despite the decent food, the poor service and questionable hygiene practices overshadowed our dining experience. Then they automatically put a 20 % gratuity for groups of 2 or more. I was hyped to try this resturant after seeing one of their posts on instagram a few months ago. When My gf and I arrived, there was no one to greet or sit us at a table. We waited an extra 20 minutes to get a seat and another 30 plus minutes to place our order. I honestly considered leaving at one point because I felt we were being ignored. It took approximately another hour for our food. Overall the food was good but the service wasn't so great. We came in at 3pm and left at 5pm. There was a guy there working really hard. He attended the bar, served the food, coordinated the staff, and seated the incoming guests. It didn't seem like he was getting much help which made sense of why the service was so slow. The only reason I am giving them a 3 and not 1 is because the food was good. This was the worst customer experience I have had in a long time... No tea cup, the tea was served in a Moscow Mule, a heat conductor. Waiter didn't know the menu and did not put the order in correctly. Are you ready for the 411? Here we go...another restaurant I wanted to try with the girls! So I need to preface that based off my girlfriend's recommendations I had planned to give this establishment 5 stars. As you read on, you may best understand why we ended up with 3 stars. I do feel bad as today is there 1-year anniversary. I made reservations off my Seated app and set out to try it. We arrived a little earlier but they did not seem like they were ready. They told us to come back in 5-10 minutes and we actually came back in 15 minutes and still not ready. Finally when they were ready we were taken to their outdoor seating which was in the back of the restaurant and OMG this is what resulted in the 3 stars...it was overbearingly HOT! This is not an exaggeration...the back area was hotter than the actual outdoors as well as inside the restaurant. Part of the issue is the back outside area is covered in plastic to protect from rain however it creates a greenhouse effect with all the heat pulling into the space. It was like sitting in a heated over. And it did not help that it took over an hour to get our entree meal! The heat in that area was enough to take you out and I cannot understand how other people sat and endured it, including an infant baby! Granted the inside space is not big enough to support a large party (and there was only 4 of us)! While the server was attentive, I felt someone could have apologized for the uncomfortable and crazy heat! For the food, it was so delicious. For their anniversary, they gave Us free jerk chicken which was pretty good. The appetizers - Mac and cheese, crispy wings and calamari were all good as well. At about 4pm, we asked how much longer for the food and was told 10 minutes, however, food did not come for another 30 minutes. By that time, my daughters left me to go and sit inside in the AC. We ended taking our entrees - lamb chops, snapper, curry goat and oxtail to go. The food is absolutely delicious but something has to be done with the back. They should call this place 'Grotno BK'. First, let me say that when we walked in, no one greeted us for seating! When someone finally came to us, he seemed a little confused as to why we were there, then we realized that he was the bus boy. When I asked him where we were going to be seated, he asked if we wanted to go to the backyard area, and that was where he led us. We sat in the corner under one of the heated lamps. We sat there for quite some time before I had to get up to inquire about a wait staff, because after all we are here to eat. So after a bit, someone came over to take our order. My husband ordered an appetizer, and when the waitress brought it over to the table, she might as well had stayed in the front and threw it at us. The way she tossed the plate on the table was insane. We are huge supporters of small businesses, particularly Black owned businesses!!! And since we are also Caribbean, we love visiting different Caribbean restaurants. We first saw this restaurant on IG, and then a cousin of mine in Florida sent it to me again. So we decided that we must go visit this place on our date night. I will say that the experience warrants my review because customer service is a pet peeve for me. (Bad customer service). I will say that the female waitress was not assigned to us, but her interaction with us was very off. Her energy was unpleasant . I will give the food a 9. It was pretty good. Man. Where do I start. It's Mother's Day weekend. My brothers decided to take our mom and auntie out for dinner. The Grotto is such an amazing place to eat. It's mainly Caribbean food. The service there was so good. The people made us feel as though we were family. The ambience of the restaurant was also great. Good music and they have an outside eating area. I normally do not like to eat outside but they had it covered away from the elements so it was great. Now let's talk about the food. The food was some of the best Caribbean food I've ever eaten. I had their amazing Mac and Cheese as a starter. It was such a large portion that I only ate half of it. When my entree came, I nearly fell out based on how much food it was. I had the Rasta Pasta with Lamb Chops. This meal was absolutely spectacular. The pasta was so creamy and gooey with the right amount of spice. The lamb chops were tender and well cooked. This is a meal that I will not soon forget. I will definitely be coming back here to try some more of their menu items. I love this place. After a long day and not having had a meal I'm so glad that my appetite was prepared for this place. Upon walking in, you see a bar and a few tables, which initially had me confused but when we were taken to our table we were led to an oasis outside/indoor with ample heating lamps to keep us cozy. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and beautiful. Our server shared the kitchen was backed up, and commenced walking us through all the menu suggestions. We went with many of his suggestions, and it didn't disappoint. The appetizers alone had us full, and the rum punch, was just the right combination to make the night filled with laughs and joy as we waited for our food. One thing I found especially interesting was that the place was catering to a large party but we never felt as if someone wasn't caring for our table even with the backed up kitchen. They advertise 90 minutes of bottomless mimosas for $40 on the brunch menu but fail to mention that the $40 does NOT include food. 4. The service was super slow. In the 90 minutes I only got two mimosa refills because the waitress kept disappearing. But when it was time for us to pay she made sure to HOVER over us. The ambiance is what I understand how they get people to come in, but other than that I can't really say much positive things about it. The service was good at first and the party I was in was vibing with the waiter that took our order, but after that it went downhill. We even had a reservation and they didn't really honor it. Someone from our party had to flag down a waiter after like almost 20 mins of waiting. We ordered some wings and fried shrimp as an appetizer and that took over 40 minutes to get there. The shrimp was hot and seemed like right out the fryer, but the wings were so cold! We even had to flag down the waiter for the appetizers after the 40 minutes. The nonchalance from the waiter was also a huge red flag because after the appetizers came out, it was already an hour into us seating and there was no update on the food that we ordered. The same waiter was also eating by the register and saw numerous times on his phone, & it was obvious he was ignoring our party for most of the evening. We ended up just paying for two drinks, the wings and shrimps (which with tax and such came up to $80!) and leaving. The funny thing is was that as we were complaining about to leave, that's when coincidentally our food was ready. The ambiance was okay, but the AC was barely working (it was pretty warm in there for a humid July evening), but I'll definitely not go there and will tell anyone I know not to support this place.
