This place can throw a mean kegger, and not in the totally idiotic frat jerk way. There are actually a ton of different people everytime I go there. The house has been cut-up to the point that it can be a maze, but I have always had fun here. The key is being in the right mood. If you don't like being shoulder-to-shoulder crammed in with people, don't go on a time like Halloween. It helps to either loosen up beforehand or bring a lot of friends. Expect to meet people and get roped into lots of random, drunken conversation/other craziness. If you're terrified of even having to smell weed, stay home and listen to your old Rush Limbaugh tapes. This IS Eugene and it IS a lot of college kids in one place partying.

John Henry's Bar abuses women and facilitates harassment from other patrons! Apparently, telling another patron not to put their drink on my table so that I wouldn't risk knocking it over accidentally when I sat down is considered a violent act in this town. Half an hour or so after this supposed violence occurred, the bouncer/manager, Felix, informed me that I needed to leave for the night. He stated that someone had made a complaint, saying I had put my hands on them and gotten violent. But if I had actually ever gotten violent with someone, why did it take the alleged victim half an hour at least to lodge a complaint with security? Despite insisting that I'd done no such thing and had simply told someone not to put their drink on my table, I was told to leave or the cops would be called. Felix got in my face and started yelling at me. I had to yell back at him just to let him know that I stood by my innocence. Not even my friend was able to convince the bouncer of my innocence despite having also been a part of the original interaction with the other patron. Even he knew that no physical violence had ever taken place. So Felix thinks it's acceptable to try to intimidate women at his establishment based solely on the lie from another patron with an obvious grudge. Since when is it acceptable for one patron to harass another by falsely accusing them of violence and weaponizing the establishment's bouncer? They refused to refund the money I had just spent on a beer and refused to let me notify my friend that I wouldn't be able to stay. Felix flat out refused to even listen to my side of the situation before judging me guilty. Why would he automatically take the other patron's word for it if he wasn't acting out of a clear bias against me? It was pretty damned clear to me that he was only ever pleasant to me when I behaved myself, then turned into a misogynistic freak once I stood up for myself and refused to accept unfair treatment from him.

Chairs are in rows with tables scattered in the middle so you have a spot to put your drink down. They mainly focus on Jazz (obviously) but they have the occasional bluegrass show. They have a connection with the U of O so there are plenty of shows featuring students and professors. Beer, wine, and soft drinks are available for purchase along with some small bagged snacks.

Birds flying overhead, no ambient noise, a nice little breeze, that part was perfect. Seats were pretty comfortable too, for a concert venue. But there were some issues too. I don't live in Eugene so I don't know this place's history but it seems like it was really meant for smaller events, not "big shows" by popular artists. It's not big enough and doesn't have enough amenities to really support a bigger show like that. But of course that's where the money is. The lines for merch and food were so long you couldn't even tell where one started and another ended. The stage is pretty small, the "big" screen isn't that big, etc. And man was it loud. Definitely bring some ear plugs if you're in the seated area. Parking is free which is nice but it's just a grass field with the bumpiest driving ever. So many holes, bumps, divots, etc. I can't believe I didn't roll my ankle walking in and out. And be prepared to wait 30+ minutes to get out afterward. Would I go back? Eh, maybe. I'm also a little biased because the show started an hour and a half late (not the venue's fault) and the opening act was the worst one I've ever seen at a concert.

Upon receiving our VIP credentials at 4pm, the VIP desk directed us to line up to the left of the stage post-show for the meet-and-greet with Weird Al. This same information was repeated to us by the venue manager Nick among others. Following the performance, after dozens of people had lined up where they were told, at approximately midnight (6 hours later) the venue altered the designated meeting point for the meet and greet, disregarding the major inconvenience caused to attendees, including elderly and those with physical disabilities, who had waited for an extended period and now are being told we are at the back of the new line, likely adding hours onto the time we had to wait to meet Weird Al which we paid alot of money for. After waiting until 1am, and still having dozens of people in front of us waiting for pictures with Weird Al, we were forced to leave without getting our autographed poster and pictures we already paid for. The venue demonstrated a complete lack of empathy, stole our money for "VIP" tickets and declined to rectify the situation even though there situation was caused by their disorganization and lack of customer service. Based on this experience, we advise against attending events at this venue due to its massive shortcomings.

However, an hour and a half into our stay, we were still waiting on two of our dishes. We communicated to the waitress what dishes we were missing (nicely, we weren't belligerent about it). Apparently there was a misunderstanding, because shortly after, the hostess came over said that it was the waitresses second day and to "lay off her". How she felt we were being rude, Idk but that wasn't the intention, we just wanted the food we ordered, and didn't explicitly blame the waitress. We received another one of our dishes, while the last dish wasn't brought to us until we left. We had to seek out a waitress or bar tender for everything, our checks, napkins, and our food. We were never checked on for refills or how the meal was going. However, we weren't acting upset about this, we were honestly just in grossed in our own conversations, with the occasional "I wonder where our food is" comment. On our way out, we were unceremoniously told we were not welcome back, which again completely caught us off guard, and I suspect there must have been a misunderstanding. It completely ruined the night for us, and I will happily never return. Food was fine, the atmosphere is cool if somewhat undercut by the hostile service. If the owners hope to keep their customers, they should avoid banning their paying customers over miscommunication.

I also like that they have the outdoor patio that is dog friendly for the summer time. One of my favorite places in town!
