The drinks are more expensive than other establishments, the service is awful. I went to the HorseHead tonight. If you'd like to be treated like a jackass, come to HorseHead. Not a fun bar. There are a dozen better bars in the vicinity (there are only a dozen bars in the vicinity). I knew a guy who worked here. He would steal tips on purpose and brag about it. The bartenders will put in minimum effort, no conversation, the floors are filthy. Every time I've been here it's been a different staff. For the last 2 months, Kendall Fox has treated me w/the utmost contempt. He is arrogant, condescending, rude, scathingly/evisceratingly acerbic, mean-spirited, & a malignant narcissist. But that would be putting it mildly. To put it more pointedly, he behaves like a sociopath/borderline psychopath in my presence. Not sure who he's confusing me with. Moreover, until 2 months ago, I had been visiting the Horsehead once a month (give or take) at most or once every 2-3 months at least (again, give or take). Everyone else at the Horsehead has been 100% affable towards me & I've NEVER had any problem with ANY of the bartenders there prior to him & I've been going there since '16. But since '19, I haven't gone there to drink at all as I only drank there when I was dating my ex. But even when I was drinking, I was never obnoxious or mean when I drank like Kendall is sober. The only reason I've gone there once a month/once every 2-3 months since '19 is to get a 1/2 order of cheesy fries as I've told all I've known (since '16) the Horsehead makes the best cheesy fries in the entire Eugene/Springfield area. Until now, I've given the Horsehead nothing but good publicity & back in '16, I even created my own FB Horsehead page paying homage to the Horsehead. Ever since age 3, I became obsessed w/horses myself & that never changed even tho' I'm now in my 50's. But, the system of a down began when I asked, 2 months ago, if the 1/2 order was still $8.00. Kendall insisted I was wrong & tried to overcharge me at least $1.00 more than the menu price. It never once occurred to him he could be mistaken either, so he made a snide remark about menu items going up in price like everything else & man-splained inflation to me. But when I asked him in a neutral tone if he was 100% sure re: that, he became indignant & even more snide, & then, in a moment of cockiness, whipped out a menu so as to rub my nose in it even more, come to find, he was totally mistaken about the 1/2 order being over $1.00 more & then could not even so much as find it w/in himself to be a decent enough human to apologize for his unhinged vitriol towards me. Worse yet, when I asked if I could tip pre-emptively 2 months ago, he (& a female bartender 3 months ago) both acted 100% put out having to explain to me how pre-emptive tipping is no longer a thing & although she refused to explain to me how I could tip POST payment (vs. pre-payment), at least she did not make me feel like I had no right to breathe the same air space she was. I just chalked it off to her being crazy busy & not having the time, whereas Kendall is a bonafide evil prick who makes zero concession for a person with my type of hidden disability & goes out his way to make me feel beneath him. But just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, this month he took things to a whole new level on multiple levels. Both times I told him I was on the spectrum too, but that just made him double down on me even more. Oddly enough, even tho' he claims to have worked at the Horsehead 24 years, I've only encountered him 2x from '16 to present. I don't use my disaibility as an excuse for anything bad either. I only am guilty of what psychologists call "reactive abuse" which, IN TRUTH, isn't abuse at all. What it is, is just a NORMAL reaction to anyone who is a narcissist totally capable of ABNORMAL, altogether sinister, or just outright wrong behavior. Apparently, this bartender reserves the right to not let customers stand up for themselves while he's running roughshod all over them. I only take the "no more Mr. Nice Guy" tack as a last resort when someone MORE THAN has it coming! In short, Kendall has a sick, sadistic way about him that's all about hyper-controlling the narrative making himself out to be the victim when he's, IN TRUTH, the perpetrator. But he doesn't stop there. He's a master at verbally vivissecting, lacerating, eviscerating, & REFRAMING back to me (& his co-workers) an exaggerated/twisted version of what I said/did so he can get all to see it his way & keep the focus off himself entirely. Makes me seriously wonder who else he's done this to. Freakishly, when he's in the zone, he makes his co-workers/customers appear as sycophants entirely under his thumb while, right before them, he treacherously deals w/anyone he senses is socially challenged, weak, or not his equal. In the end, he worked it to where he had all believing I put the kibosh on '25 when it was he who crafted my final visit into a hellscape when all I was trying to do was be heard correctly over his falsified, venomous, asp like jabs, & overt, accusatory, slanting/twisting of the truth while minimizing his behavior & grossly exaggerating mine. Kendall knows how to weave in just enough truth (but only PARTIALLY based on what I actually, in truth, said) with his brazen lies about me (& God knows who else) to get away with it. He has no business working w/the public & is a human stain upon The Horsehead. read more

One of the bouncers or security whatever you wanna call them, his name is Aaron, he tends to get girls numbers or contacts and messages them inappropriate things or asking for pictures after meeting them, my girlfriend had this happened to her and felt so disgusted by it that she no longer can enjoy this bar because of him, apparently he gets so drunk he has no care about boundaries of relationships and proceeds to ask girls for pictures or for sexting. This isn't the first time either he's done this based on groups made about people in the Eugene/ Springfield areas, do better horse head! read more

My boyfriend and I walked in hungry and tired, showed ID, and were told we'd be helped by the next available bartender. The next bartender got around to us and rudely said "ID's, Today????" To which we explained we'd already shown them, and the other bartender corroborated. He then proceeded to ignore us and serve other people as they walked up, it wasn't busy and we waited for like 5 minutes before leaving unserved. Used to be a regular. Went there recently with eight friends, and we stood there for 20 minutes while one bartender served regulars and ignored us. Some girls next to us said they'd been waiting for half an hour without any acknowledgment. There were three bartenders there on a Saturday night... and only one guy was making drinks. The other two would come up and talk to him, look at everyone, then walk into the kitchen and ??? We just ended up leaving after not getting served, and we were AT THE BAR. Crazy. read more

This is great bar If you want to get kicked out for no reason. My boyfriend and I were not drunk or disrupting anyone. A bouncer can up to us and said my boyfriend was too drunk and needed to leave hen he was literally only talking to me . I asked what was the problem and what happened and he proceeded to say if I was going to question him I need to leave also . He never gave us a reason. Everyone else said we where fine but ultimately we got kicked out for no reason . He seemed to be racially profiling. Would not recommend this bar. Sad to say they have removed fried pickles from their menu. They're tots covered in cheese and bacon are plentiful. Bartenders are working hard but it never seems to be enough, nightlife there is busy busy! A couple pool tables and for the ladies... 2 toilets so always expect a line. Their drinks are good. Go anywhere else besides here, me and others have been discriminated at this bar, the staff are rude and unprofessional.

There are 5 bars in a one block radius of this place. This one is the most relaxed (slightly dive-bar-esque) and best for kickin' back. Overall, they're notable for good staff, decent menu (average for bar food), good Happy Hour, a number of pool tables, and decent selection of Ninkasi libations (I like the Believer the best; probably the least hoppy of their brews). Rogue Brewery (ECB) next door is crazy expensive ($5.25 per pint?!!?, & $15 kobe burgers), and Jamison's is nicer but a little more trendy. I like Horsehead's style best when there isn't too much riffraff around :-) read more

I've been going to HH for awhile. It's one of the only real places to play pool etc around town. Decent atmosphere inside, it used to have good food. Patrons have always been either cool, not a hard core local crowd, and bartenders are good, but meh, busy... The bouncers suck. It's a new one every few months, and the owner seems to be a bit of a ****. I got confronted by a bartender who was asking me to "share a pool table" because I wasn't "paying" (free pool on Sundays, and I had already ordered two beers) when I challenged him, made friends with him, I found out it was the owner who was talking with him prior. The owner told the bouncer to harass me as I'm playing pool alone and hardly drinking.. No more good food here, they took it away. 6/10 rating read more

I travel for work and they refused me service because they didn't like my picture, I've been pulled over by police, in Oregon, and never had an issue! (I have an out of state license obviously) And then to say well they don't have the "proper equipment" to verify, when the flashlight was literally in her hand.. and everything in my wallet matches my name! Hmm probably cuz it's mine! If a bar doesn't have the proper equipment or competence to check ID properly, maybe you shouldn't be open. And furthermore I do not appreciate a big man from the back coming over to stand over top of me trying to intimidate me when I was leaving, like what? You're going to hurt me? Was I the nicest in the situation? No, I'll admit. Was I belligerent and threatening? No. I had just gotten there for a fun night out with my friends. So when they initiated the rude, I finished it. When I went to tell my friends that we're leaving the bartender girl goes "doors over there!" like I'm going to leave without all my friends lol. If you're looking for a fun night out, RUN THE OTHER WAY FROM THIS PLACE. Oh and to top it off, the bartender gave me some random guy's card and I didn't even buy anything. I'd stick to drinking at this place. I ordered a burger and it was a really thin overcooked piece of meat. You order at the bar and they bring it to your table. So I have come here several times with my brother, who had the pleasure of living in Eugene for years, because my dad lives in this town. the other night after having a good time at sixth street grill we walked over here for an encore. This place is super crowded and a bit crazy for me, but if you want to be loud and you like to smoke this place is inviting. I have eaten here before and i remember the food was tasty. When asking if the gravy was vegetarian, the bartender told me "it's not vegan, it's vegetarian...because it has beef stock in it. And the french fries are fried in duck fat, but that's vegetarian too since there's no actual meat in it." Wow...lol Stick to drinks and bullshitting with friends and you'll love it. For no declared reason I was kicked out of horsehead. It was stated I made other patrons "uncomfortable" although I was polite, sober, soft spoken, and only even spoke to one person - whom I made friends with and was enjoying playing pool with. I have reason to believe this discrimination would not have occurred were it not for my having a biological male body. I am very upset and even traumatized by this incident. REVISED: Not a huge fan but will stop in everyone in a while. I agree with another yelper that said, You'll always see someone you know and see someone you're trying to avoid. Maybe that's my own personal issues with this place but I still that the inside is sort of grungy, grimy, dark and smelly so during the summer try to grab a table in the back patio. The ladies room has seem better days. If possible just hold it in till you can get to Davis. It's typically crazy busy during the weekends and you have to wait a long time to order a drink. This place. Sadly I hate it more than I love it. The food is the main draw for me, followed by the space itself. The drawbacks would be the staff dynamics (and the subsequent influence on the way the food/drinks come out) and the policies of the ownership who seem to make themselves nearly impossible to reach, at least when I have tried on two occasions. On an ideal day, when the right person is cooking one can enjoy catfish, gumbo, red beans and rice, and other Cajun staples. I hear the nachos are fantastic as well. On an off night the food is not so good. When the right person is pouring, your drink might be appropriately strong, otherwise it will be weak. However the staff behind the bar are generally knowledgeable, professional, and efficient. Though when challenged about the bar's policies they will just give you a blank stare and recite their boss' and OLCC policy like a talking head on the news. How irritating, just say it in your own words, show some personality, maybe even apologize for your jerk of a boss or our state's absurd laws. If it wasn't for the food, this last part would drive me to give this place negative stars if I could. On every single occasion that I have been here, someone in my party get's "cut off" before they are even remotely inebriated. In addition, there are times I can go to the bar and get two drinks (one for me, one for the wife), other times I am refused, and allowed only one drink. The inconsistency is infuriating. I will take my money to an establishment that allows me to obtain a drink for my wife instead of making her have to get up from dinner and get her own. Maybe that is how the owner treats his wife, but his establishment will not treat MY wife as such. I'd say this to the owners face, but again whenever I ask his staff about the guy I get a bunch of BS. Who wants to do business with a person that does not offer a channel for feedback? Not me.
