I love love love the "Great" Batch. Became a fan of these guys when I first visited Umami Burger in the West Village! My favorite being the Crispy Ice Cream Sandwich, which is a caramel rice crispy cookie treat and blue marble vanilla ice cream in between. Simple yet amazing. I like the location, but I wouldn't trek all the way out here just for them, though. It's a small space with decent seating; it doesn't take long to scarf down a delicious ice cream sandwich. But they also offer coffee and other pastries which is cool. The place is relatively clean, decor is home-y and I like how bright it can get in there. Stopped by this place on my way from Nail Boutique across the street. Saw they had ice cream sandwiches and decided to treat myself. It's a nice and quiet little spot with lots of cookies, breads, brownies, cakes, etc. I tried the birthday cake ice cream sandwich which was sugar cookies with sprinkles, lemon buttercream (I think) and vanilla ice cream. In a pinch (when another bakery fell through) The Good Batch accepted my last minute custom cake order with quick responsiveness and a lot of grace. I had a very specific cake in mind for my dad's birthday, and it's only done at this one spot in San Diego. Stumbled upon this place and had to go in! It's a super hip little bakery and looks like it's really up and coming. I didn't get q chance to have any baked goods but I got a latte and was very pleased. I have to admit I'm usually kind of snobby with my taste in coffee and this passed the test. Been a loyal customer here for a few years now, going a couple times a week for cookies, baked goods and coffee. At first the coffee/cold brew was delicious. Overtime it has gotten inconsistent. There were days and weeks when the coffee was watered down or tasted burnt. Today I decided to get a iced matcha... big mistake. The barista basically gave me a cup of milk with a colored with matcha. If you don't know how to make a iced matcha then how can you call yourself a barista? My wife and I met at the good batch to grab coffee with a friend. Impossible to know why, but the two guys at the counter were in a terrible mood. Dismissive, annoyed and very far from courteous. Our friend was leaving NYC for good the next day so we wanted to capture the moment with a photo (I know, kinda cheesy) I asked one of the guys at the counter if he could make us a favor and take a picture of us. This is what he said: well, I don't want to... I was perplexed, confused and didn't know what to reply. then he said in a rude way: I don't want to take your picture. He then asked the other guy at the counter to do it. The second guy quickly took the picture. I imagine we were in shock or something because we just grabbed our stuff and left. I am so regret that I didn't check the shop out on yelp before I patronize the shop. I was not aware that reviews of those pastries have been overwhelmingly favorable. It was my first time step into the shop, even though I have just had ice mint tea, but I still gave the shop 5 star, as environment and decor of the shop are totally up to my alley. In the handful of times I've been to the Good Batch, I've been impressed with the mocha, the everything bar, the chocolate chip cookies, an ice cream sandwich, and the general cleanliness of this cute coffee stop. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a warm and fuzzy greeting from the service during at least two of those times. Think: retro hair Hipsters who aren't from here but now proud to be part of the Bed-Stuy takeover and would rather not acknowledge or respect the culture, or the people who've been here all along. During my last visit at TGB, I was definitely feeling the displaced effect of gentrification that I've read about and discussed at length. Perhaps I'm thinking too much of it but in a place as cozy and bright as TGB you would expect a sunny welcome, and instead I got a give me the money, take your coffee and pricey pastry and get out vibe. I was all set to believe that perhaps the counter clerk is just like this, when another customer, clearly not from around here, walked in and got a smile and small talk with her coffee. Stroopwafels come from the Netherlands via Greenpoint Brooklyn. They look like flat waffle cookies and are filled with caramel. Anna Gordon, soft spoken and a graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education, makes them fresh in her kitchen and sells them at the Brooklyn Flea on weekends. There were three variations of stroopwafels today: classic, cocoa, and bonfire. The bonfire was a cocoa stroopwafel filled with burnt meringue and dark chocolate ganache. It was gooey, rich, and the meringue (only slightly torched) was marshmallow like. The bonfire was basically a dutch smore. It was like a kiss of happiness. I had to smack my lips because the meringue was sticking. The stroopwafel was something different. It was new. If you think you've had them before, I assure you they taste nothing like the ones sold at Trader Joes. Anna's stroopwafels are fresh, of high quality, and made just for you. Completely worth the three dollars, I highly suggest trying out her seasonal flavors. The classic and cocoa seem to be her staples. All good, but its nice to live on the edge a little. read more

You know how gross it is to eat an ice cream sandwich when the ice cream squirts out all the back all over your hands every time you take a bite? Well this is NOT that ice cream sandwich. This is perfectly easy-to-eat dessert heaven; the cookie is soft enough to break easily off into your mouth without putting any pressure onto the ice cream when you bite, and the ice cream is hard enough to bite through cleanly. A miracle of modern chemistry and/or physics! I got the nutella ice cream sandwich and couldn't initially decide if I really loved it, but then I couldn't stop myself from finishing it so I guess I did. The almond cookie was delicious (and gluten free) and the toffee and spread really was a great addition. As other have mentioned, $7 is a little steep even though you get a decent sized cookie. The cool haus is sold at grocery stores for around $4/$5 for roughly the same size. Had a sweet tooth and decided to stop by The Good Batch before heading home. With a variety of sweet on display I went with what was recommended by the staff. Got myself the brownie (recommended), the chai cake, and coconut cream puff. That's definitely lot of sweet for one person lol, but I'm not your ordinary person and 3 is definitely doable. When it comes to sweet, I personally DO NOT like anything that's too sweet and all 3 pastry were definitely not too sweet nor too little if such a thing is possible. My personal favorite was definitely the chai, I may be a sucker when it comes to chai but that cream on top of the pastry did it for me. The other 2 were just ok. The biggest let down were the dryness of the pastries. But it could be because I went in an hour before they close, taking that into consideration, I'm not gonna say more.
