We are from out of town and the first 2 times we went to The George the food was excellent, flavors were amazing and the staff was really friendly. The staff are still amazing! This visit one of our orders came back wrong (asked for the crispy chicken Caesar sandwich, minus the bacon and provolone). It arrived with chicken and plain lettuce, no Caesar dressing, parmesan etc. No big deal this happens, so we nicely told our waitress who looked at it and said, " yup you're right and we will remake it," she came back to our table 5 minutes later and said my manager needs to see it to make sure it was made incorrectly," we thought that was an odd response, however, they do bring a new sandwich out that is correct. Our waitress then says "per my manger if you want to keep the old one too (one bite out of it) we have to charge you for it, and if you don't want to pay for it we are throwing it out." My questions are; why didn't the manager approach us personally, which is what every other restaurant does, and why were we made to feel that we were somehow scamming the restaurant for 2 sandwiches? There are so many other wonderful Restaurants in Naperville that unfortunately we won't be back anytime soon. read more

Amazing first time at The George! Really cool cozy, dark pub atmosphere. I have to recommend the Pub Chips with French onion queso and hot honey drizzle OMG these were amazing. I am still thinking about them and wish it was reasonable to eat just 3 orders of chips for a meal. For entrees, I loved The George French dip sandwich. Crusty warm bread filled with flavorful roast beef and a creamy side of horseradish and au jus to dip. I devoured the whole sandwich. My husband ordered the chicken Caesar sandwich, which is presented beautifully with finely shredded Parmesan covering it all. The chicken was cooked and fried perfectly, tender with a lovely crisp. But we both felt like it didn't have enough Caesar flavor, maybe it needs more of a Caesar sauce or just order some Caesar on the side? Another year, another business at this location. After lunch in the area, my husband and I wanted to grab a couple of cocktails. We found seats at the bar and were promptly greeted. The fun part of the bar seats is that they each have a "George" name attached. I sat at the George of the Jungle seat and my husband had former Mayor of Naperville/The George namesake George Pradel. They have a list of specialty cocktails and mocktails. They have a large beer and N/a beer selection as well. My first choice was only ok, their mai tai. The margarita I had was a delicious choice. I'd return again and again. I will always sit in a high-top at a restaurant, with the comfort of the stools at The George, I couldn't resist. Leather stools, dark wood, the place had a cool, masculine look, but was very comfortable. There was also low upbeat music playing. Monday night @ 4:45. Greeted and seated immediately. We had heard this place was always busy, and they don't take reservations, so we made an early night of it. We were the only table in the restaurant, so our plan worked. Multiple tables were seated while we waited and dined. There is not a ton of seating at The George, so I can see why it gets so busy. If you're like me, and don't like waiting, plan on an early evening. The service was very good. Our server was very attentive, and the food came out quickly. I am a Stroganoff lover, so I had the Short rib stroganoff. Hubby had a Patty Melt. He requested American cheese vs Swiss, and no salt on the fries. His order came out exactly as requested. His meal was delicious. I, unfortunately was not a huge fan of my food. To start, the dish was very very salty. In addition, the short rib was very tough and chewy. The meat also had somewhat of a gamey taste. To be fair, I have not ordered short rib before, so maybe that is normal. Regardless, I did not enjoy it. We might return as there were several other items on the menu that sounded good. Visited The George to celebrate a friend's birthday and it turned out to be a wonderful evening. The restaurant has a beautiful and lively ambience that makes it perfect for special occasions. Being located right in the heart of downtown Naperville also adds to the charm -- it feels vibrant and energetic as soon as you walk in. My friends and I really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. The interior is stylish and cozy at the same time, making it a great place to sit, talk, and celebrate. The lighting and décor also make it a very photogenic place -- we ended up taking quite a few pictures during the evening because the setting was so nice. The drinks were great and nicely prepared, and the service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly. My husband and I came here for lunch on a Saturday. Hadn't been in this space since it was Jimmy's, and it is quite transformed, with hunter green wainscotting, butler's mirrors, warm brass accents, vintage advertisements, leather seats, and a crackling fire. The menu is lean but well-appointed, and both dishes that we had (the tavern fish and chips and the crispy chicken Caesar sandwich) were very good. The coating of the fish was crispy, not greasy and held onto the fish rather than coming away. Shoestring fries often get cold quickly but these didn't. It was too early for cocktail time (for me, anyway) or I would have had an Aviation. Nicely curated little list of drinks. Our waitress was friendly and suggested the stroganoff for next time. Notes on accessibility: the hostess kindly checked what kind of table we wanted (low top, high top, booth), rather than just seating us. The ladies' room has an accessible stall, but note that the lighting in here is very dim, so if you have low vision, be aware (the flooring is also a wild black and white mosaic pattern in here, so it's a bit challenging to see clearly in the dim). I was in a group of 4 and had dinner at the George the week it opened. I asked for one of the cocktails on the menu, but they were unable to make it perhaps because they didn't have all their inventory delivered yet. The food was great! I typically head to the city when I want great food, but I walk past The George almost every single day and have been wanted to try it for months before they even opened. What a great date night this turned out to be. The atmosphere is very classy. They really decorated it well. We sat next to the fireplace, which was perfect on a cold, snowy night. He was mortified but amused that I ordered the panko encrusted Spam as an appetizer. I couldn't help myself. It came in a Spam can and was just so random I had to order it. Don't be horrified but I actually liked it. It was certainly a unique choice. Loved my short rib stroganoff. While my first bite seemed a tad bit salty, I soon discovered that it needed it with all that creme fraîche they piled on. Those portions are quite large too. I took half of it home. He said of his French dip that it was perhaps the best French dip he's ever had. And he's had a lot of those. We saved room for dessert and ordered the sticky toffee pudding. I had to. It's one of my favorite desserts. The only other place in town to get it is at Ramsay's. The George's was sooooo much better. Food came out pretty timely, which was a shock considering how slammed they were. Service was wonderful too. I wish I'd gotten his name again or saved the receipt. He was a great waiter and I'd have loved to have named him in this review . My single only complaint was that I ordered a non alcoholic margarita and it came in a can. The banana daiquiri that I ordered was nice and strong. Disappointing that they didn't put as much thought and effort into the n/a cocktail too. When so many places these days really develop their mocktails and so many people are choosing to be sober, there's really no reason at all to not develop a good selection. My friend and I spent the day in Downtown Naperville and checked this place out for lunch. A newer restaurant, The George is an American Tavern that serves a variety of more intricate styled pub foods, cocktails, and more. The interior has a vintage design and is warm with an elegant feel. The chandeliers, fireplace, and decor contribute to this ambiance. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio is quite nice and great for warm, sunny days. Service is pretty good. We felt our server did a decent job checking in on us. Food came out in a timely manner and appeared freshly made. We popped in for a light lunch and ended up ordering several appetizers to split between us. For the appetizers, we decided on the Ruffle Rival, Red Lion Shrimp, and Landmark Caesar. All these dishes were great portions and we had no problems splitting them. The Ruffle Rival includes pub chips, french onion queso, hot honey, and scallions. A unique plate full of super great flavors! The queso wasn't super thick, the hot honey added a touch of sweetness, and the chips were freshly fried. I really liked the French onion queso as it was very different and complimenting to the other flavors. This was a unique dish, but was certainly enjoyed by us! The Landmark Caesar salad consisted of romaine, brioche croutons, parmesan snow, and an anchovy-caesar dressing. This wasn't anything too crazy, but a great salad overall. The romaine was really fresh and I loved all the shaved Parmesan on top. Can't go wrong with a classic Caesar salad! The Red Lion Shrimp were crispy shrimp, buffalo butter, lime zest, with chunky bleu. I'd never had buffalo shrimp before, but these were excellent. The shrimp were tender and cooked just right. The buffalo sauce was strong with a good kick, pairing perfectly with the blue cheese. Another solid dish! Overall, we had a great meal at The George. The service is friendly, attentive, and accommodating. We were checked in on frequently and our waters were consistently refilled. The food was all great! I went to dinner tonight with my friends at The George. The restaurant has a large bar area and outdoor patio in addition to the indoor dining room. I found the menu to be very limited as far as the main items. There are about a half a dozen sandwiches and a half a dozen entrées. They do have appetizers and salads in addition to the main events. Our server was Kyle and he did a great job. He was friendly and even split the bill between the five of us on his suggestion. The five of us started with cocktails. I ordered a bees knees, which was made perfectly. It's hard to find a quality bees knees, not many bartenders can make a good one. I was pretty happy. One girl ordered the chicken piccata for dinner and the other three had the prime rib sandwich. I opted for the Caesar salad with the addition of chicken. It was a large portion and I think the price point was fair at $14 for the salad and additional $5 for the chicken add-on. It was your basic Caesar salad, nothing super special. However, the dessert the five of us shared, the sticky toffee pudding, was divine. What's not to love about a moist cake topped with ice cream and rich caramel sauce? The bar has a decent bourbon, wine and cocktail list, and the restaurant did add a nice roof over the outdoor patio. The former restaurant had tables with umbrellas and the sun could get intense. Great idea to add the roof. I like the warm feel of the restaurant inside, but I wasn't very impressed with the menu, The George is a much different restaurant than Jimmy's, and certainly different than Bev's upscale menu. Had a great time at this newly open spot! They do not take reservations but we were able to get a table on their outdoor patio with less than a 10min wait! The atmosphere was upbeat and lively and they had a fun music selection playing along with a fire pit. We started with some drinks but had to go with our second or third choices as they were out of some of the ingredients to make our first choices. I went with the Not a Vodka Soda and it was pretty good. We split the Cesar salad which was flavorful and a very large portion. We had the George sandwich (essentially a French dip) and the pot roast toastie. Both were excellent and well executed with generous portions. The George was simple but comforting. It would have been even better if the bread was a little more toasted/crispy as both sandwiches were a bit soggy. We will try dessert next time! A few more veggie options may be a nice addition but they seem to have a good variety of menu items overall. Service was good even with it only being their third day open. While the service was great, the food and drinks were a bit of a mixed bag for us. We found the cocktails to be a bit too strong/harsh; they weren't quite the sweet or "girly" style we were hoping for. As for the food, the soup was delicious, but the entrees (the salmon, pot roast toastie, and short ribs) were all lacking seasoning. I actually took the short ribs home specifically to season them myself. Lastly, we were a bit disappointed by the carrot cake. We were expecting something more traditional (like the version at Bev's), but found this one a bit too sweet, especially with the candied nuts instead of raw/toasted nuts. The decor is reminiscent of an old English pub crossed with a rich man's private den - comfortable, cozy (with fireplace), and luxurious decor. Super cool vibe and atmosphere. This place is like an upscale hotel lounge bar. A little swanky but not uptight or pretentious. Tremendously helpful staff and yes, the cocktails are superb. First, the food. The menu is limited. They are doing a small number of things extremely well. Good selection of interesting appetizers. Different take on some classic sandwiches and a small selection of entrees. This is not Cheesecake Factory (but what is?) I had the pot roast toastie. A hearty take on grilled cheese with some delicious pot roast thrown on top. You can dip it in the included gravy. Depending on your dipping style, you might need to use your fork and knife. The pot roast is amazingly tender, really melts in your mouth. Bread toasted perfectly. Loved the red pepper chopped up. Came with french fries and I didn't even need ketchup. My wife went the appetizer route with french onion soup and the fried chicken tenders (with 3 sauces). Onion soup was great. The tenders were. . . .light. I mean, they were fried (maybe air fried?) but very light, not greasy at all. Also delicious the next day. Okay, the cocktails. I had both their featured bourbon cocktails. And they were exquisite. I'm calling them "soft" because the mouth feel was amazing. Perfect selection of ingredients with great balance. Not too sweet, nothing over powering. My go-to dish is chicken piccata and I've had it at more places than I can remember. The chicken piccata at The George is the worst I've ever had. Menu description just says chicken with lemon caper butter, sun dried tomatoes and mashed potatoes. It was breaded and deep fried. Fried to where it was practically petrified and bordered on burned. The lemon butter was practically just lemon juice and extremely sour. The mashed potatoes were ok, not too great. It came with green beans which were very fresh and perfectly cooked. For an entree that's $24, I expected better. Much better. My husband had the Cesar salad which was very large and had lots of freshly shaved cheese. The house made dressing was ok. Not bad but a bit sour too. It was very large and for $5 you can add roast chicken. Service was ok. I did have my empty drink sitting for a bit before I had to ask for a refill. Inside is very swanky and stylish but kind of dark. Bathrooms were large and very clean. Outdoor patio with a large pergola. We were there around noon so the sun was directly overhead and there was a bit of shade. Unfortunately with all the traffic on that corner it's a bit noisy but looks very nice. read more

Went here at 2:00pm, on Friday. Got seated rather quickly despite being busy. However, waited over 15 min and got no service, not even a drink order in. So we left! Told the hostess and she said "oh im sorry bye now" On the bright side, Naperville has plenty of good places to eat with great service such as Ichiddo Ramen! Got seated right away and the server was ready and waiting for us to order. Got our drinks right away and the food came in 10 min fresh and hot! Service was amazing. Just in case you guys have a bad exerience at The George who only pays attention to the elderly white Napervillians, I recommend Ichiddo Ramen. The service and food was great. @The George: You see your reviews with complaints on lack of service and long wait times to catch a server, why are you not fixing this and doing better. I would give three and a half stars for beautiful bar. Beautifully decorated speakeasy type interior bar with a wall opened up to a covered patio. The weather was nice enough to be able to sit out on the patio. We we're seated right away but we did have to wait a bit for our server since the staff still seems a little bit in training. The place seemed busy but not overly crowded. It was a Saturday afternoon so college football games were on the TVs but music was playing throughout. We had a couple of the signature cocktails. The brown Derby and the Mai Tai both were good. But I think they need a cocktail menu. We both had the pot roast sandwich. We both thought that it was good as well. I've been here 4-5 times now, and it's a fantastic addition to the area. The remodel was done really well--it feels fresh, updated, and much more inviting than what was here before. One of the biggest improvements is the pricing. It's far more reasonable compared to the last two spots, which felt overpriced for what you got (in my opinion). Here, the value actually matches the experience. The service has also been consistently strong. The servers and bartenders are knowledgeable, which isn't always a given these days, and they're genuinely happy to answer questions or offer recommendations. Went for lunch during the week during the freezing cold so it was nice and quiet in there for a business meeting. Had the prime rib sandwich, fries and the potroast sandwich - all very good but highly recommend the prime rib (they do not have any steak sauce which I found odd...) the churros were sooooo good.
