I went to club Two-Nine with friends on Friday, February 17 and will NEVER step foot in there again. The bartender (I didn't catch his name, but had brown hair and facial hair was incredibly rude and disrespectful. I was waiting patiently to be served - not saying a word - and finally he came by me and raised his voice to me in a disrespectful tone saying that he is not serving me because he came by me twice and I wasn't paying attention. So, I waved to the other bartender who was female and she politely served me. I also found out that same male bartender kicked out two other friends of my friend I was with for no reason. Plus, when I reconciled my receipts the next day, I discovered that in my "not paying attention," they handed me two other receipts to sign which totaled about $80.00. (At the time, I thought maybe they were just helping each other out with ringing my order up) There's NO way I ordered that much, because it was SO crowded, I couldn't get served more than once, so that's why we left. So, basically I was robbed $80.00, because I wasn't "paying attention." Both receipts say "Potter's Place," even though we were upstairs at Two-Nine, and that's what it says on my credit card statement. Potter's Place was closed downstairs. I have one receipt that makes sense to what I normally order that says "Two-Nine". So on my credit card statement, I have one charge that says "Two-Nine," then two that say "Potter's Place." We came out to Two Nine recently for a birthday party and had a good time but it was overly crowded. I think something they can do to minimize this is to have wait times for when your party can arrive or be more strict about how many people they let in at once. Things that are unique about this spot is the ambiance and the iron branch-like artwork on the walls and throughout the bar. It's a cool atmosphere when the lights are dimmed as they have fun colored up-lighting to set the mood. There's a little outdoor bar called "the shanty" and it is the best spot to be if you visit in the summer. The DJ is usually always spot on for the crowd; usually a mix of modern EDM and early 2000's hip hop throwbacks. The dance floor is small but was packed. There is a semi-private table area by the bar that you can reserve for a group party. If you ever are planning to come here for a birthday or any type of celebration I'd recommend you reserve this table/booth area so your group has a place to sit or at least stand. You also get a server assigned to your table! Like I mentioned, on a busy Friday or Saturday night, this place is packed shoulder to shoulder like a college bar. If that's the scene you're looking for, you're in the right spot! They should staff at least 6 bar tenders for the influx of people but they only have two or three tops. You can tell they are hardworking bartenders but it is impossible to serve that many people. The women's bathroom was rough. It's small and there's hardly any room to wait inside or outside the bathroom. Because the place is so crowded, I got bumped and spilled on multiple times just standing outside the bathroom door. The garbage was overflowing and something from the ceiling was dripping and of course landing on me. Maybe it was a rough night for them to keep up overall but this experience wasn't what I had in mind to help a dear friend celebrate her birthday. read more

Hi, I Don't know if this may affect the bar owner. I move from Michigan one month ago and I have a girlfriend too. But last month I come to this bar at night, I was alone because someone told me, the music is good here and he said to be care full with security members. So on that day, there was too much crowd. behind me, there was a girl who was too old and too drunk And not my type. And another boy jumped behind her and start talking to her. And that boy go to security and told them that one guy is troubling her and that security short guy think that I am that person. And again next week I come here and he did not allow me in. And I feel disrespectful and I decided I will never visit this bar. Still, I did not give any rating. US State ID & Driving license, and I provided my passport. The bouncer asked me where was US Visa and didn't know it was in the passport itself! What came after was even more horrid- inspite of showing state ID- driving license he asked more another proof!! So, my question is how many ID's is a person supposed to carry if they want to visit a bar? We showed- passports (WHICH OBVIOUSLY HAD VALID USA VISA), driving license and state ID and they still wanted more. This is beyond pathetic service and way out of line behavior. We were treated badly and these two bouncers created a scene in front of others. They were clearly not checking for identity proof of others who were getting in. On the other hand I clearly saw underaged girls running up the stairs and these two bouncers didn't even bother checking their IDs. Clearly because they were not immigrants! My first impression of Two-Nine: a couple of really well-dressed middle-aged guys leaving with a disgusted frown that said "no ass tonight." Upstairs, expect the blandest, most approachable club music this side of creation. Drinks are tasty, and my husband gave a firm nod to the gin martini. Old school. Mine, ehhh, weak, but still delicious. I've read a few reviews (non-yelp) likening it to a Wicker Park spot. I think, not sure, but I THINK exposed brick and wrought iron decor can be had just about anywhere. It feels nothing like WP and I don't think it tries to be. I have visited Two-Nine twice and I've been forcibly removed twice... The first time I asked for a drink, and I received the wrong drink so I asked the bartender for the correct drink and the security guards stepped in and said I was assaulting the bar tender and I was removed. The second time I visited Two-Nine, I was removed for "puking". First off, I never puked, I was in the bathroom, and I couldn't "go" and three security guards walked in and said they "saw me puke" and removed me. This bar is crazy. I've been to a lot of bars, and I've never been treated so poorly. I think there were more security guards than patrons in there. I will never spend a dollar there again and I hope you won't either. Two-nine is a cool place to go in Naperville. All of the wire artwork is amazing and you can really spend a lot of time looking at it! I've been here when it's crowded and when it's empty. Being crowded can be cool because so many people get up and dance and start having fun! But being empty is okay too because the bartenders are friendly and you can all sit around and have a nice conversation. This place confuses me. When you walk in, you see intricate lighting, a woven ceiling piece with wine glasses hanging from it, and a long dark leather booth with little tables-- reads "sexy lounge", but then on the weekends (only time I've ever been there) they have a DJ playing loud techno music. It doesn't seem to match. Otherwise, I do like this place. The interior is cool, bathroom has the same kind of vibe, and they have an outdoor balcony, which is really nice to enjoy when its warm out. The drink prices don't make sense to me. I ordered two mixed drinks which cost $14. Next round I ordered 4 of their mystery shot and a pineapple upside-down cake martini (very good, recommended!!), which was also $14. It seemed backward that the martini would cost a dollar less than the regular mixed drinks, but I suppose I shouldn't complain about that. They're pretty efficient here in taking drink orders, and addressing everyone. It's my biggest pet peeve when they look right at you, then past you to someone else for a drink, which thankfully was not the case here. The bouncers were all relatively friendly (as much as they could be), but they definitely know how to keep things in order. They even obliged us in lighting the candles on the table when we asked, something they easily could've blown off. It just is a small space, so it does get really crowded. I came here for the first time tonight for one of my friend's birthday's and was impressed for the most part. The atmosphere was probably top tier for downtown Naperville. The ambiance, music, decor, location and everything for this martini bar was perfect, and very impressive. The drink specials were good too, especially for a Friday night! $5 special martini's (tonight was pineapple upside down cake- delicious!!!) $3 domestics and $5 glasses of wine. We went to Lou Malnati's for dinner earlier (see my review) so we didn't order any appetizers, but it's nice to know they have food if you get hungry. The food is mexican, from the restaurant Potter's place downstairs. The staff was nice, and the service was efficient and quick for the most part. This is a great place to come with a group of friends for a chill night, or to try something different than the typical bar scene. read more

I like Two-Nine. Let's be honest: if you are looking to sit and leisurely chat for hours on end, there are PLENTY of other places in downtown Naperville to do so. If you are looking for an after-dinner drink, or a place to get the night started, then consider Two-Nine. Finding a place to sit is always hit or miss. Get there early, before 10 or so (as you should if you are either wrapping up dinner or just getting the fun started), and finding a spot to claim shouldn't be hard. You'll also miss out on the ear-piercing club music which seems out of place to me. Generally, it's not a place to go with a group--it's too small. It's not a place to dance or act ridiculous. Again, there are a plethora of bars in downtown Naperthrill that fit this requirement. I've always found service to be very friendly and helpful. The drinks are good. I am extremely disappointed. A friend of mine (visiting from Europe) was just denied access because his two forms of picture ID were not sufficient enough...security stated he needs an "American" ID. My friend is 30. (Passports are too important and too easy to lose, so you can understand why he chooses not to carry it around). They just lost two customers. Over Potters Place, this is a nightlife spot. If you're looking just to grab a drink and gab a bit, I wouldn't recommend it. You've got loud blaring music (not necessarily good) but after a few drinks, who notices anymore? The drinks are decent if not on the sweet side and not very strong. The decoration thought is really neat with iron framing and faux leaves on the top. We even noticed the outside with the light shadow of the name on the sidewalk. Overall, it's a decent place for nightlife if you're looking for some loud music, mixed crowds, and some sweet drinks to tide you over. read more

Have been to two-nine a handful of times being both friday & saturday nights. Often about 9 to 10p its not too busy, so easy to get a table or even a high top table. Usually have descent drink (beer & cocktail) specials which is great for a weekend esp in Naperville too. The DJ music selection can be pretty good sometimes, yet there is a small dance floor that is nice and it is right next to the doors to go on the 2nd floor porch area, above Potters. Sometimes the waitress can be slow or not all with it, but usually are pretty good. Def a good spot to check out! read more

When this place isn't packed with people, it's actually a very cute little date night location that's well hidden. I've come here a few times and it's always hit or miss, but it's worth stopping by on your bar crawls in Naperville. They started doing $2 shots from an unknown paper bagged bottle (probably the stuff they can't sell and are trying to get rid of), which can be dangerous if the shot is good! Even if it's not that great, you can't pass up a $2 shot!! There is a balcony in the back that is open during the warm season, but once it starts getting cold out it gets a lot more packed because there is no room left. If you don't want to feel like a sardine, this may not be the place for you, but with that being said, you still have to go check it out for the classy atmosphere. read more

We had a bouncer that decided to pretend that our friend's ID was fake. He wouldn't let her in the bar and also, when asked, would not tell us what he thought was fake about it and suggested that we call the police. So we did call the police and they showed up and validated that the ID was 100% real. But because it was literally 1:01AM he would not let us in even after the police confirmed that her ID was real. He was extremely rude the entire time -including flipping us off - and I would not wish this experience on anyone. If management reads this, I would recommend that you reevaluate who works your door. He told us that his name was "Steve" but he laughed after saying that so I can't even confirm his real identity. Overall it's not worth it to me to go to a bar who treats its customers so rudely before they even make it into the bar. read more

This place is a refreshing change from the usual downtown Naperville scene. It's small and personal and it has both a dance floor and balcony over looking Porters so you get to enjoy the band without the congestion of downstairs. It can get a little cramped when its super packed but that has only happened on a few occasions. I would recommend this place to start your night or to hang there throughout. read more

Martini Bar -a moniker that is always over this guy's head, especially when every drink under the sun is on the menu, so I guess that means they specialize, I gather. Once we gathered here, we could not leave. Very good service, the waitress was a dream in every respect; quick, very responsive, knowledgeable, accurate. -- Okay, cute. We ordered some food, only appetizers on this trip, it was late, but still the dishes were served up very quickly and well presented. I was not hungry myself, but it looked good enough to anticipate for the next trip, and no complaints from the others. And they all loved the placed too. Definitely a night spot for a date or just out with friends; the crowd on Friday night was a well mannered, mostly under 40 eclectic, ladies wearing dresses, -how about that?- everyone seem relaxed and at home. This is not a gimmick place, has plenty of pomp but not overly pretentious, or frivolous . The place is decorated by someone who knew what they were doing -all the way down to the table legs with the wrought iron sculpting, very well appointed ambiance. Two -Nine is on the top level of a pair of restaurants, the other, The Potters Place which seemed to be the sit down more casual establishment is on the lower level. There is an out door patio for both levels, with access to both, the ground-level patio had a big white tent for the current wet --cold -windy weather, and inside there was another stocked bar and live music. Upstairs is a little cramped. The dance floor and egress to the patio are conjoined, thus dancing is bit awkward, also the DJ is set up on the small dance floor, otherwise this would have been a 5 star. WOW! I was not aware that I could not vape and so a male staff member said to me " If you keep vaping in here you will be kicked out" No warning before hand and he was very rude!!! Went with a few girlfriends and the female bartenders were rude/jealous I don't know why but they were saying things when our backs were turned. Very immature, childish and rude as hell. It is a nice martini bar in downtown Naperville that looks classy without all the pretension. Short Version: Pricey drinks, rude staff, unbearable music Long Version: So I decide to bring some friends out to Naperville and we meet up at Two-Nine. The trouble started before we even walked in the door. Me and three other guys get a look from the bouncer like we have leprosy. We're all dressed well with the exception of one, who I admit, did have running shoes. He got crap for having Adidas gym shoes, which obviously aren't the most stylish, but this isn't Chicago...it's built above a noisy Mexican joint in Naperville. He said to my friend, "you're lucky I'm letting you in". Hah! I was ready to turn around, but my buddies marched ahead. Anyway, we get in (barely) and you can feel thumping music rattling down the stairway. We walk in and it's crowded, dark, and above all, unbearably loud. I actually liked the lounge vibe they were going for...some smoother house music would be perfect. But instead, it was screeching pop/techno music - so loud we couldn't have a conversation. We shove our way through crowds to the bar and order some overpriced beer - side note: the beer menu is weak. If you're drinking here, better stick to the mixed drinks. We find a few square inches of standing room and soak in the environment. The atmosphere is just plain awkward - no one dancing to the crappy music, but no one talking either because it's too damn loud. We give each other a knowing look and chug our drinks before we get the hell out of there. This bar can't decide what it wants to be and by doing so, it's pleasing no one. Either be another blast-pop-music-and-$5-tallboy-bar of Naperville or get some classier music and go for the sleek lounge vibe (which would be a nice change of pace). Bottom line: they need better music, a real drink menu, and to stop acting like snobby Chicago when in reality you're built-above-a-Mexican-joint Naperville. So I went to Two-Nine for the first time with my college friends a while back. I was meeting up with them late on a Friday night and we sat at one of their high-top tables and chatted for a few hours. At the time, I was 22 years old and less than a year out of college so the atmosphere didn't really bother me all that much. However. Last night I went back and had a very different reaction. I met up with one of the same friends and another college friends downstairs at Potter's Place for some Mexican food (oh. my. gee. So good) and afterwards Sean and I went to Two-Nine to have some more conversation. Wrong choice. After sitting down with our beers (there was a $3.00 Corona special) we started talking more. One of the first things Sean said was, "I think this place has a Satanic vibe. Maybe that's why I like it" (Bear in mind, he's in love with tailored clothing and sports a Don Draper 'Do). Although funny, his comment was oddly true. The walls are a bare brick with red lighting and weird vine accents that give have the effect of being underground even though you're on the second story. I also noticed that once I began talking, my voice was reverberating in my chest (think talking into a fan... fun when you're being silly. Not fun when you're trying to have a serious conversation). The music was that loud. Now I'm not one to be a fuddy-duddy when it comes to the "hip" new things the kids are into these days. But I'm 23 and this was an ID-only bar. So I had to ask myself: what the Hell was the point of that? The music is loud at a lot of bars, yes. However those bars usually have a large open area some people call a "dance floor" where patrons can dance. What was missing from this migraine-nightmare was the dance floor. I couldn't hear Sean talking to me from a foot away. I can't describe how much I wanted to leave. The only thing that kept me sitting in that room was the company. Maybe it just wasn't my thing, but I can't describe how frustrated I was by my experience there. Even the other patrons made me uncomfortable. If you're there for a girl's night, make it a bachelorette party or some kind of 21st celebration. It's not for normal conversation or catching up. read more

Two-Nine is by far the best nightlife hot-spot bar in Naperville. Get there early if you want a table or even a chair. The atmosphere and decoration in the bar are amazing. The whole bar rack is custom made with the iron work framing the whole lounge area. The main waitress - Amanda - is seriously awesome. I've been there maybe five times, and every time she remembered me and my husband and what our drinks were and what we ordered. Plus, she's super nice. Oh- did I mention they have the best martini ever - Oatmeal Cookie Dough. So good! The attitude changes at Two-Nine from a laid back bar at opening, to a standing room only, music blaring hot-spot as the night goes on. The only food available is brought in from Potter's Place (mainly Mexican). Good for appetizers and snacking on while you check out the extensive drink list.
