We attended the American English tribute band performance and was absolutely pleased with the venue, seating and more importantly the service we received. While we did not eat at the venue, we did our share of having beverages. We will go back for other events without a doubt. read more

Why haven't I found this place sooner. There aren't places in Naperville with live music for us middle age folks & this is a good one. The room is very cool. The prices for both food & drink are very reasonable. We paid a $10 cover which was fine for a 14 piece Steely Dan cover band. They brought me back to my old school. The only knock on the place was they only had 2 waitresses & they tried their best to take care of everyone but they really needed a third. The food is typical bar food but it was very tasty. If you're looking for good live music you'll enjoy Frankie's. SECOND REVIEW NOT SO GOOD SERVICE VERY VERY SLOW DONT COME HERE TO EAT. We've waited almost an hour for food. Paid $10 cover charge to sit in sweltering heat (no air conditioning) It was 70 degrees outside and we were upstairs. Everyone was saying management was hoping the back door would help circulate the air. I felt sorry for the band!! What a cool place!. The room is upstairs with a high ceiling and has a dark wood bar. I felt like I was in a different age. Old photos and a massive music themed mural are part of the scene. I came to see and hear live music which was very good. The sound system and room are very good for the purpose. Out the back door there's a roof deck with an outdoor bar. The outdoor bar was very busy and lively. Frankie's has a cover charge which thins the crowd down to people who really want the atmosphere. read more

Went out with a work colleague to socialize for a weekend stay over, this nearby venue was suggested. Great little room parked up stairs off the drag. The night we were there was a $10 cover for a solid blues/swing band, Morry Sochat and The Special 20's. When we arrived, 9pm-ish, the place was packed, swinging, as in dancing, full floor, and the music was hot. It was great seeing folks dressed up and having fun. All the tables, seating areas were spoken for so we hung in the bar. I flagged an employee that was working the tables and asked her if she could flag me when one opened up, she happily agreed to do so no problem. She not only delivered, we stuck with her for the rest of the night. The place did wrap up around 11pm-ish so not a late nighter. The age differential between the bar up (older) and the bar down (younger) is pretty stark, but both are fun. We ordered some munchies since we had not had dinner, fried mushrooms and chicken nachos, while we were happy they actually had some food, both options were pretty basic and nothing I would repeat. This place was a ton of fun. I went on a double date here and it was a pretty good time! There was an all girl band playing that night called the Priscilla's and they were so amazing! They had amazing voices and were entertaining! The food was pretty good but I won't lie, it wasn't something to call home about. I had the steak sandwich and I didn't really like the sauce. The onion rings were good though. The waitress suggested I try the Tequila Sunrise, I had TWO because they were SO good! Definitely worth drinking. There was a cover charge that night but I don't know if that's normal though but keep that in mind. The reason I give them 3 stars is because there wasn't enough space for everyone to eat and watch the show. We arrived fairly early for the event but all the tables were full. So my friends and I had to sit at a smaller section where there wasn't enough space to hold our food. So that was a bit frustrating. Also, the booths weren't that big. My boyfriend and my friend are two tall guys and it was uncomfortable for them to sit in the booth. read more

Frankie's Blue Room is upstairs of Club Mamalu and Features. It's a great place to see bands. The cover is reasonable, the drinks are decent, and the food is really fresh and inexpensive. The servers are great, the sound person knows their game, the dance floor is wooden (yay!) and there's an outside deck with a bar in the summer. The decor is very warm and sort of like 20's speakeasy style. There's sofas and tables--but get there an hour before band starts for best seating. The only downside is you do have to find parking which is tricky in Naper World, and you will not have access to an elevator, so if stairs are tricky for you--there's only two options--front carpeted ones or back almost like a fire escape steels one that tend to be steep to get to the Blue Room (once you're there, it's all on one level). read more

I used to go here a few times with some friends on a Wednesday for the swing dancing. If you take the lesson, everyone is super friendly and extremely helpful, even if you suck. Oddly enough, for such a small place they have some damn good food. I love the cross-cut fries and the wraps. Seriously, paying $7 for an hour-long swing lesson and then live entertainment by the Rhythm Rockets is worth twice as much, if not more. read more

This part of naperville is overflowing with bars of various description. This is one of the few that charges a cover on the weekends, but the entry fee is a pittance for the return. I can't comment on the food, but the nachos are served with everything ala-carte for those picky eaters among you, the cheese fries are seriously overflowing with fresh cheddar, and the cheese-balls are like little drops of cheese-crack! Actually, I have to make special note of the cheese balls: they are amazing, covered in a crunchy breading shell, I couldn't tell if it was cheddar or some kind of cream-cheese or possibly both, but I couldn't get enough. The martinis are pretty average for a martini bar of this caliber, and their specialty containing Grand Marnier is frightfully overpowered by the vodka. That said, their apple/orange martinis are stupendous and dangerously drinkable. The atmosphere is purported to be that of a 40's night-club, and that seems true enough. There is plenty of seating, and with the cover-charge in place, the bar never gets too crowded even a busy night. Lots of stylized figures are painted onto the walls, reminiscent of bands which may have played there in the past, and ancient movie stars. We came in on a Blues band I didn't catch the name of, but they assured us repeatedly they were the hardest working in town! The band and especially the bass player definitely made use of the lounge's sound system, often vibrating the floor and seats beneath us even though we were several booths away from the stage. All in all a very enjoyable experience and a distinctly unique flavor that sets it apart from all the other bars on the corner of Washington and Chicago. read more

Just to clarify, this review is going to be for the dining experience, as the music will of course vary. Frankie's Blue Room is the upstairs sister to Features Bar and Grill, and shares the same menu, so you can treat this as the same review. We were told to that the doors would open at 7:30 PM. We arrive at 7:40, and the door is blocked with a sign and locked. The bartender in Features tells us the door should open "any minute." They finally opened at 8, which was annoying because we were hungry and a bit cold. We later found out that Frankie's has a hangup about letting people in before the band finishes their sound check (which the band could care less about). We get in and get a good table for the show. They've recently renovated the place, adding couches and chairs along the side and front for a more casual music experience. It looks very nice, but I digress. Our waitress shows up, and is very friendly and attentive. She goes through the beer menu, and my heart sinks. Despite what the menu says, it's all Bud, Coors, and Miller, which I despise as a beer snob :). The only possibility was Angry Orchard, but I wasn't in the mood for cider. I'm about to resign myself to water for the evening, but then she finds out they're serving Bell's Oberon. I latch on to that. My wife had a martini, and my friend tried a Long Island Ice Tea. Both were very weak, and the LIIT tasted like Pepsi and orange juice. Blech. We order their steak nachos for an appetizer. It is literally Tostitos with cheese melted on it, plus cubes of marinated steak that tasted good but we guessed were from Walmart. It came with little side dished of sour cream, guacamole (the creamy store bought kind), jalepeno slices, tomatoes, queso (which tasted a little odd), and chili (which tasted sweet). Certainly edible, but no attempt to make it theirs. And it cost nearly $9. For the entree, I ordered a Fiesta burger. It was a decent burger - definitely not frozen round patties. It was sloppy, but that's to be expected when salsa is the main topping. The salsa was standard tomato fare - again, nothing special about it. My wife ordered the chef's salad. It should have just been called "A Pound Of Meat And Cheese With a Few Leaves of Lettuce Attached." Again, the ingredients were standard fare. Prices were average, but in my opinion a bit steep given the quality of the food. I simply wasn't impressed with the place as a dining experience. Yes, I know it's not really meant to be restaurant, but again, this also represents Features, which IS. At least the music was good. If you see Dirty Ernie playing at your local bar, go. They're a lot of fun. read more

I'm reviewing Frankie's for the Salsa (Thursday) and Swing (Wednesday) nights, haven't been there otherwise. Salsa - the hour long lesson is given by the DJ, he starts off with a basic Salsa step, then adds more as the lesson progresses, partners rotate, crowd is mixed ages and experience levels, beginners will feel welcome. Music afterward is a nice mix of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and a little Cumbia. Swing - I was there in December 07, they've stopped giving the lesson. The night I was there the Flat Cats were playing, they're an excellent band, the crowd was lively with both very good dancers and beginners included. read more

I went on a Wed when they had Swing. I had a great time, there was a lesson prior to the actual opening of entertainment where they taught Swing Dancing. Very laid back, I have know idea about drink pricing since I don't, but everyone else seemed to be having a grand ole time. read more

When I first came here I had always thought it was just an extension of the bar below (Features) but regardless this was the spot I frequented the most. Aside from a more chill atmosphere and a friendly staff, the place always had a great DJ with an active dance floor. The icing on the cake was the beautiful outdoor patio with a lovely view of the main strip in downtown Naperville. Speakeasy feel in this small upstairs lounge - a couple hundred seats. The live acts are from blues, jazz, latin, and rock, and they have a good sound system. The security people were fine too. however one guy had a pretty bad behavior, the young guy in the back area he thinks he is there to boss people around not realizing its patrons who will keep the place going without them you will have no business and he will have no job he needs to tone it down and stop flexing his muscles and have a little respect for the clients I will not go back there again as long as that guy is there take it from me and I am a 54 years businessman not some young and stupid kid like him. read more

I usually stop by and check this place out while at Features on Saturday nights. It is a good mix for those who want to dance and chill in the same place. The dance area usually isn't as popular as Features, but there still a decent crowd at times. it's a good place to catch your breathe and relax from the craziness downstairs. I wouldnt usually go here for a uplifting time though. read more

Very disappointing. On the good side, sound system is quite nice, sound solid and a lot better than others I've heard. Lot of cozy seating and decent amount of tables. Lighting system is small, but certainly very adequate for what they are doing. My son and I went there to celebrate his birthday. I ordered a large TONIC & LIME (I was the designated driver) and my son ordered a Blue Moon. We got our drinks and started a tab. His Moon was fine; my tonic tasted funky, but I'm used to that with all the variations of tonic water out there. The evening went on and while the band was playing, he had 2 moons, and then switched over to tonic & lime too (he also took notice of the bad taste). And I had 4 tonic & limes over the course of 3 1/2 hours. When we decided to leave after the band got done, we asked Ally (our waitress) to cash us out and she brought the tab. It had (6) WELL VODKA Tonics & Lime on it, along with the 2 Blue Moons. I asked her about it and told her it was only tonic and lime. She explained that they were in fact Vodka Tonic & Lime, not tonic and lime. I explained to her I was the designated driver and she served me alcohol. She apologized and reiterated that these were vodka tonic & limes. She offered to comp me a couple drinks the next time I came in, but it will be a cold day in hell before I go there again. This kind of tells me a couple of things; 1) They don't listen very well or at least appear not to listen as an excuse to bump sales; 2) Their alcohol must be the cheapest rot gut out there, because I didn't feel it OR TASTE IT in the least (bearing in mind I had 4 of these in 3 1/2 hours). And neither did my son. Honestly we thought it was just funky tasting tonic; 3) Do they really care about their patrons after THEY screwed up the order? (at least a mention of calling us a cab would have been in order); I have friends of mine that are playing there in the near future, but I certainly won't go to see them there. Once bitten, twice shy. Just as a protection for yourself, make sure your waitress repeats your order back to you in detail so you're not getting some you didn't want. read more

This is not a music venue. Could be a great music venue (and Naperville needs one badly) if they ever actually had live bands. Used to have bands and most were awful. I can't remember the last time I asked for my cover back at a place because the band was so horrible, but I did at Frankie's. If you want live music, you'll have to go elsewhere. read more
